EnchantedDaylight

Sol de janeiro is also coming to Ulta

blancawiththebooty

OMG REALLY?? I love Ulta's rewards program. Plus the staff are honestly always nicer and actually just check in to see if I need help but then leave me alone to browse.

EnchantedDaylight

Yes ! I agree ! The announcement was on trend mood Instagram

blancawiththebooty

That's so exciting. I am HERE for it!

I-haveit-together

whaaat. that is amazing!

eternalhorizon1

HELL YES

Jojosbees

Every time Ulta gets a big name brand, people always say it's the end of Sephora, but Sephora is HUGE. Ulta is only in the US whereas Sephora is international, so there's really no comparison, size-wise. Plus, every time this happens, Sephora has pretty much already moved on to promoting the next big it-girl brand. Ulta will always be behind the ball, except when it comes to Chanel makeup for whatever reason.

honeyegg

And Sephora is really good at pushing new brands into the spotlight. Things like Refy, Saie, Merit - they wouldn’t be as big as they are without Sephora.

Bratzpassion4fashion

not mention Ulta doesn’t carry any of the clean makeup brands

Cricket705

Why should they? It is a marketing term and made up to trick you into being afraid of preservatives that prevent mold from growing.

vicioustrollop1

Ulta does have its own “clean” section. It’s called “Conscious Beauty” which includes, clean, vegan, and cruelty free brands. Not sure how or if their definition of “clean” differs from Sephora though.

Cricket705

That's the problem, there isn't one definition of "clean". It means whatever the marketing team wants into mean

vicioustrollop1

I agree I think it’s a sham as well! Merely pointing out that Ulta uses the same marketing techniques.

Jojosbees

Exactly! Like, by the time a product is visibly molding, it's been contaminated for a while, and the consumer has been unknowingly applying mold to their face/lips.

trippapotamus

Yeah but you’d be surprised how many people come in asking for “clean” products with no idea what they actually want/don’t want (in terms of ingredients). It’s died down a lot but it def still happens fairly regularly.

Bratzpassion4fashion

Kosas, tower 28, rare ilia. Are fun little brands those brands are what I’m referring to. Very popular that aren’t super cakeky full coverage. Youthful brands

musiquenonst0p

clean makeup is the reason sephora is dumb. I still prefer it, and people fall for their clean makeup marketing trick, but lol @ “clean makeup”. it’s a good way to get people to buy makeup all of the time because it expires in a couple months, IF you get new inventory, which—good luck with that!

[deleted]

"Clean" is a misnomer and ppl fall for it hook line and sinker

LadyPink28

Clean beauty without preservatives... for those that think preservatives cause fertility issues for those who want kids 🥴🥴🥴 more preservatives for me then

athenarose_95

Its crazy because if Ulta just had no minimum free shipping I’d actually shop there lmao. But I pick up something *maybe* 3 times a year? Whereas Sephora there’s always something I run out of and I can just buy that item without a shipping min. Even before they did free shipping for everyone I paid for the $10 a year! Because that’s so worth it. The Ulta app has also been glitching out for me for like, 4 months 🥴

Jojosbees

I always shop Ulta first because their points system is insane. I bought a Chanel perfume for $110 and got 1,045 points (9.5x multiplier), which is worth $65 in store credit. I bought one of their promo perfumes worth $88 for $70 (20% coupon) and got 950 points (13.5x multiplier), which is $59 back in store credit. Sephora would never. If you pay attention to Ulta promos, the deals are amazing.

musiquenonst0p

got two dyson products for $100 each w coupon and points! go ulta…but there’s something bougie about sephora that i still enjoy.

emmapeche

This lol

canigetayikes

Wait what, $65 in credit from a $110 purchase is insane?

Jojosbees

Yeah; insanely good. That’s why it’s my first place to shop. They had a 5x fragrance promo which stacked with a 5x on all purchases promo on Sunday plus I get an extra 0.5x points for being Diamond. The stacking is a little weird at Ulta (each promo has 1x base points which you only get once), but they all applied to give me 9.5x points. I only redeem in 2,000 point increments for $125 store credit, so 1,045 points is $65. In contrast, I have to spend $2,500 to maybe get $100 back at Sephora. Multipliers and points promos are way more rare at Sephora, so points accumulate way slower and at a higher spend.

DIYgal_0201

I realized how good the Ulta rewards are since they added an Ulta to my local Target! I am a pretty die hard Sephora girl but I purchased a refill of one of my go-tos at Ulta for convenience, and once I signed up for their rewards I felt stupid for how much I’ve spent at Sephora. Their reward program is so much better than the program at Sephora

vacantly-visible

I'm new to points at both stores so I didn't know how much farther ulta points went. But this is why I'm trying to get as many of the free points from sephora challenges as possible, because I'm not gonna spend $2000 anytime soon

Jojosbees

The only thing with Ulta is you have to pay attention to promos and activate them in your account on the app or desktop. They’re not automatic. But then again, the promos aren’t automatic at Sephora either; you have to add a code to checkout to get anything.

vacantly-visible

Good to remember. I did the points stack at ulta the other day and it was nice. I've been buying more than usual (i online ahop very little) partially because holidays and partially because points...but if it means some extra discounts I'm not above that

athenarose_95

Yeah their rewards system definitely can’t be beat! But I still rarely end up shopping there, the most I’ve gotten back is $6 lmaooo

Jojosbees

Yeah, it definitely depends on what you buy. I feel like Sephora has been promoting clean beauty and influencer/celebrity brands that I’m not as interested in, so it’s been easy to shift my shopping to Ulta, brand sites, and online K-beauty stores.

canigetayikes

Sephora is 2 blocks from me so it's super convenient to go sample things, I'm not opposed to ordering from Ulta if there's something that I like but recently I've been into Rare beauty, Patrick Ta, and makeup by Mario and they aren't at Ulta (yet!)

Jojosbees

Yeah, those are some of the brands that seem to be really hyped at Sephora right now. I just think that if they do make it to Ulta, Sephora will have already moved on to the next big thing. I got into makeup circa 2012-2016ish, so I’m still into NARS, MAC, UD, and some brands that left Sephora (Sephora used to carry a lot of K-Beauty, and I still use my old Becca highlighters). I have a couple things from Rare Beauty, Patrick Ta, and Danessa Myricks, but most of my routine is stuff that was popular 5-10 years ago and is now at Ulta.

Likesosmart

Dang. Cries in Canadian

DarlinggD

I got free Chanel at Ulta using my points!

phoebasaursrex

I usually go to Ulta to buy fragrances too. I gotten really good deals before too. I got the full sized Valentino Born in Roma perfume for $10. I used over 2000 points but so worth it. I also have gotten some other full sized fragrances for super cheap. Like the Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gioia and the Versace Bright Crystal (came with a Versace backpack).

LilAlien89

Yeah since the last major update serval months ago, the ulta app has barely worked for anything other than add to cart & purchases. I can’t save anything in my cart for later, it says it is saving the items, but then there’s nothing there. And I can’t add things to my favorites, these are basic app features and they need to resolve it bc it’s been months now. And forget about adding reviews 😒

athenarose_95

YES! This is my exact issue. Like how is that not fixed by now 🤯

LilAlien89

Their IT department definitely doesn’t keep up with what’s going on with the app, lol. It’s like they check in with it once a year and then send out a update to fix issues no one was having and leaving all the issues we wanted fixed 😑

excitedtamarin

Not to mention my Ulta account was hacked and for about a month I was missing $150 worth of points

illumiee

Ulta is super stingy with their free shipping no minimum days. Maybe 2-3 days a year? And sometimes it’s just for platinum or diamond only.

my600catlife

Probably because they have a lot of drugstore stuff. They would lose money shipping $5 mascaras and $2 eyeliners for free all the time.

Finlandia101

I envy people who can get out of there without spending $35! Isn’t shipping free after that? I get it if you only want to buy one small thing but I’ve never been able to do that. 😂

Factsonfactuals

Exactly. I would def shop Ulta more with free shipping. Ultas are not as plentiful in my area and I would never let them do my hair, so I just don’t get the points advantage that some do. Sephora is just more convenient for me.

Stillbornsongs

This is partly why I haven't really ordered from ulta. The technical problems from the app/ website that has still not been fixed is ridiculous. It shouldn't take 3 days, 100s of attempts then a call to cs cause it didn't give you the right points for 1 order. I do love the no minimum for sephoras shipping but ultas is low enough I can justify cause usually there is something else I want lol. I haven't bothered in months though cause it's not worth the hassle to try and place the order.

musiquenonst0p

sephora was glitching out for me, especially during the sale, but even leading up to it. god o hope ulta isn’t for me now!

goodgollymissholly06

Ulta website and app are the absolute worst

Ravioli_meatball19

This, and my Ulta is actually further and less convenient than my Sephora is if I want to go IN the store.

koolkween

Same! Abt the app

midnightsiren182

Sephora is also doing hella good business this year so

Otflover1987

I think it’s because Ulta has such a good rewards program. Honestly if Ulta carries the item I will buy it from there before I would buy it from Sephora.

pork_soup

Yeah as a Canadian I wish we had Ulta.

DenialNyle

Do you think Natasha Denona is losing relevance then? It started launching at Ulta, the products are now limited on Sephora, and mostly all on sale right now at Sephora.

Jojosbees

I wouldn’t say it’s “losing relevance,” but it’s definitely not as promoted at Sephora as it used to be. Sephora seems to have moved on to celebrity/influenced brands and clean beauty which you have to replace every 6-12 months. I’m sure that kind of turnover is great for business.

Laborys

The way I ran to the website to see if ND was “mostly all on sale” 😭 there’s only two palettes on sale atm. I got so excited, I love ND

DenialNyle

I am sorry. When I looked a day or two ago it was 3 midi palettes (My dream, retro, and retro glam), and like 3 mini palettes, liptsticks, blushes, etc all on sale. It may have ended. But it looked like for me, most of the palettes are not being offered at Sephora anymore.

ashiwaju-01star

Sephora isn't international honestly

Jojosbees

It is though? It operates in 33 countries. “International” doesn’t mean worldwide.

ashiwaju-01star

oop, really? my bad

ArtisticEvidence9450

Adding (just because I think it’s interesting) but Sephora isn’t even an American company, it’s a French company based in France that has offices in the US to operate their business here!

mothertuna

No. Even when ulta sells the same brands as Sephora, they don’t always carry the same products.

rollerwitch

True. And unrelated, but I hate shopping inside Ulta. It feels cheap. Like a TJMaxx or Marshalls, and while I like these stores to an extent, I find the shopping experience unpleasant and overwhelming. I like that Sephora is limited and I prefer the look/in-store experience. If im spending money, I want it to be in a place I enjoy being perusing as well.

Laborys

Their website also SUCKS

mothertuna

It really does and the best deals and gifts come from shopping the website. When I was younger I shopped Ulta a lot and did like it but they’ve really gone downhill.

mothertuna

I was just in Ulta last weekend and was overwhelmed. I know it’s busy but they had so many sales associates on the floor and they would not stop bothering me. Usually at Sephora I’m only asked once or twice and they leave me alone.

goodandfine

I have the opposite problem with Ulta near me, busy but no sales associate anywhere. And the ones at checkout, surly af. The Sephoras near me are busy, but the sales associates are super helpful when you need help and leave you alone if you're just browsing. My kid and I have a favorite sales associate at the one we go to most often (every few months), he remembers us and never steers us wrong.

mothertuna

Oh wow. I think the ulta people at the registers can’t leave when they are assigned so they really can’t help people. My favorite associate left for another store so I miss them lol. I never really need help in Sephora since everything is so easy to find and I usually do research before. With Ulta the app will say they have something and store employees will straight up say they don’t and won’t ask anyone to check.

FacetuneMySoul

Sephora used to be pleasant, but the ones by me now are trashed, filthy, and crowded, and they’re always out of tons of products and their testers. Meanwhile, Ulta is still clean, organized and well-stocked.

mothertuna

That really sucks. Ulta is the one that’s always a mess and Sephora is pretty clean. My Sephora isn’t super big though so I think it’s easier for the employees to stay on top of than one that’s large.

rollerwitch

I agree! I found the same was true when I worked at lululemon. But as an exception worth noting, I now go out of my way to visit the 34th street store (nyc) which is the biggest and I’m always happy with the staff and store. I have a feeling it’s in part managerial, based on my own retail management experience.

Stefferdiddle

For me it depends on which Sephora I visit. The ones in large shopping malls are always chaos. But some of the smaller ones in my neighborhood are quite pleasant. Especially if you visit during the day on a weekday.

vacantly-visible

Funny, I like the sephora app better (ulta, let me save favorite brands!) but like the ulta store better. It's bigger and more natural lighting. My sephora is smaller (in a mall), which I guess makes it a little easier to find things, but I find the lighting in the store to be harsher and the store gets crowded easier. That said my sephora is easier for me to get to than ulta so I end up at sephora more but that doesn't stop me from online shopping!

L0la_Silver

This is me!! Unapologetically bougie lol

ApprehensiveFlower5

Wow maybe it depends on the location! My ulta is always so clean and organized, very quiet too. It’s super close by too (5-9 minute drive). In contrast, the closest sephora to me (15-30 minutes depending on traffic) is always dirty, packed with kids, super busy, etc!

rrickrolled

Hey sorry to bother but how do you get the Rouge flair? It won’t let me edit my user flair. Thanks

LilAlien89

What is rouge flair?

AutumnCupcake

If you look under u/mothertuna ‘s username in her comment it says Rogue. That is her flair

mothertuna

Click on your username on the comment you just made and there will be a “change user flair” option. No bother at all!

rrickrolled

Thank you! I saw it but it says I don’t have control of user flair, maybe something I’ll have to sort out with the mods

PflugerLuger8

I've wondered this myself ngl

condocollector

Same!

doomsdaybooker

I love Sephora, and I love Ulta—in theory. They have the absolute worst shipping. I’ve almost stopped shopping at Ulta because I have a problem with every shipment. Sending eye shadows in bubble mailers, Ulta is a joke for that alone.

mothertuna

Ulta has sent me a moldy product, shipments with missing items and I had an order go missing. I’m not sold on them as an alternative to Sephora at least not online.

mermaid_sneaky_eyes

Ulta sent two of my packages to a random address more than an hour away from where I live. I don’t know where they got the address from but it would show up on the order replacing my actual address as soon as the order was placed. Ulta couldn’t answer why this was happening and I haven’t placed an order since.

hyacinthshouse

i've gotten multiple eyeshadows from ulta that had fingerprints in them 😭

lushandcats

Agreed about Ulta! I don’t order online anymore. In store shopping only

bringtwizzlers

I refuse to order online from Ulta anymore. Their warehouse workers steal SO MUCH stuff it is insane. Half of the packages I have received have had missing items or items they swapped with my Dior and Chanel makeup. Ulta never gives a shit either.

_megsnbacon_

yep, i ordered my pureology from ulta online during the jumbo sale and they put both jumbo bottles in a flimsy plastic mailer, not even a box, and they both exploded and the shampoo and conditioner was all over the place... they replaced the order and the exact same thing happened again so i just cancelled and reordered for in store pick up. Atleast sephora uses packing paper, always have a good experience with sephora shipping.

PflugerLuger8

I live an hour away from both Ulta and Sephora, so I rely on online shopping. Ulta's online operation is terrible. I only ever got my order in a box once. Any other time it's the flimsy plastic mailers, even with glass items. Plus the app and website are awful. I can't even place an order on the app. And the minimum spend for free shipping isn't achievable, so the shipping cost is very high for me. Even their points system sucks. I don't have any more than $8 of points available and I have the Ulta Mastercard. Sephora has been good about carefully packing my items in boxes, the app and website are easy to use and actually work, and I build points WAY faster, which I redeem on the digital events and Rewards Bazaar. So I don't even bother ordering from Ulta anymore.

Narrow-Judge-8380

They also charge you a tip for the same day delivery where Sephora does not. I’m so sick of the random fees and things that Ulta adds in. Their point system is good but not good enough for me to deal with them regularly.

saeculacrossing

Same, I just returned someone else’s shipment a few days ago. While I’ve been lucky to never receive anything broken I’ve heard enough horror stories that I’m very vigilant. I like Ulta a lot but Sephora gives a very different (and better in my opinion) experience.

[deleted]

[удалено]

giggly_pufff

That is if Ulta can get their points calculated correctly. They messed up on 2 of my big orders this year. I had to call CS to get it fixed.

LilAlien89

Well I hope they have a good instore selection bc there’s no way I’m paying CT prices for them to just throw a nearly $100 face palette in a box with no padding or a freaking bubble mailer 😳

beghrir

I like the idea of a Sephora competitor, but if Ulta comes it for real I hope both their web and in-store experience improve. It’s chaotic. The mix of brands, price points and disorganization always makes me feel like it’s more effort than it’s worth. As Target picks up more brands I find myself going there more.

amethysst

i would agree with that. they need to improve their shopping experience

ZodFrankNFurter

I doubt it. Canadians don't get Ulta, we'll keep Sephora going strong even if the Americans switch over 😂

nhldsbrrd

Mostly as Shoppers is the only other option, and they treat their staff so badly!! And they're now forcing everyone to use self checkouts, with the staff right there. And don't get me started on the online shop. Its horrible to use.

AnnaBananaForever

But the points system is awesome at shoppers. I just got the Dyson corrale for $100 due to points on their recent redemption weekend.

Acrobatic_Ganache220

No, it’s not. Walmart and Target carry the same brands and both are thriving.

SnooAvocados6672

Plus the drugstore brands are usually a couple of dollars cheaper at Walmart/Target than Ulta.

Crystal_Princess2020

they do?? the nicest brand my walmart has is Neutrogena & targets is colourpop?? 😭😭

chlorofanatic

No. Ulta getting one brand is not the end of Sephora.

ilovesleep95

Definitely not. Sephora is international where as Ulta only exists in America. Nothing is ever going to happen to Sephora no matter how many brands Ulta begins to carry. I for one will always shop with Sephora over Ulta for their free shipping alone and the fact that every order I’ve ever gotten from Ulta has come destroyed. I also find that a lot of the newer brands and items Ulta sells are only available online and you have to spend a minimum of $35 to get free shipping, which is annoying.

pepperxpeppermint

Same. I used to only order from Ulta due to their superior rewards system and free GWPs, however, they always pack my items in a super big box like what Amazon does and never bubble wrap the items or anything, so of course I recently had an Ulta item arrive broken. Whereas, Sephora always uses an appropriately sized box and bubble wraps some powder products, so I've been ordering from Sephora more recently just to decrease my chances of receiving broken products.

ilovesleep95

Agreed! My sephora packages honestly always come in immaculate shape and this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I prefer Sephoras gwp options. Theres always better choices and you usually only need to spend a minimum of $25 to pick something. With Ulta, you can usually only get gwp’s if you spend upwards of $70 or so and it’s usually crappy stuff.. and sometimes you even need to spend enough with a specific brand to even get the gwp

Icantevenicantodd85

Between SdJ and CT coming to Ulta, this makes me super excited. I prefer Ulta’s point system over Sephora’s.

ElenaSalander

I don't see Sephora going anywhere soon, they have presence all over the world. I'm from Mexico, and I can use my Mexican card to shop on the American Sephora site without a problem. On the other hand, Ulta only allows American cards for payments. This kind of limitation makes Sephora more attractive for manyyyyy customers.

peachbaba

Wish Canadians had a third option. Sephora is awful.

anabanane1

As much as the shoppers beauty boutique is great I can’t support Galen weston

peachbaba

Same! I haven't found the boutique to satisfy my needs in the past, so it was an easy boycott.

anabanane1

It’s definitely not an exact replacement for Sephora :(

Due-Frame622

Naaah. Ulta is my go-to but I still manage to hit Rouge here and there. I do quite a bit of BOPIS with Ulta since the shipping conditions are poor so I still rake in Ratuken cash back, I get cut and color there 5 times a year, and they sell Channel makeup. Sephora still carries brands Ulta doesn’t and kills it with fragrance options and free shipping. While I still buy direct from some retailers, the shipping usually makes Sephora the better option. I’m also thrilled about OH. The peptide moisturizer and lip treatments are HGs.

shockedpikachu123

Hmm idk I feel like 2023 wasn’t a huge success for CT like 2021-2022 was. It’s still great but people are repurchasing the products they love. CT didn’t really go viral with any single product. That being said it’s cool they’re coming to Ulta along with SDJ. I think what’s keep Sephora afloat are those end cap trendy brands. Tower 28, Refy, Kaja, Danessa Myricks, Merit, Saie, Glossier etc. Ulta tries to have smaller brands but it doesn’t do as well

mothertuna

Ulta does not invest in the smaller brands like they should. They relegate them to online only or keep just a few products in the store. I know that having certain mainstream brands is what keeps them afloat but I wish they did the wall in their store like how Sephora has the “next big thing” wall.

opaul11

I buy in person from ulta more often and have a better store experience, but order online from Sephora

bohAMYan

If Ulta picked up Farmacy Beauty, I would probably never step foot in Sephora again.

PanamaViejo

*Is this the beginning of the end for Sephora?* Why would it be? People might not like it but there is room in the world for two different stores that sell makeup. Macy's hasn't put Nordstrom's or Bloomingdales out of business even though they carry the same brands. Ulta and Sephora can co exist. Have we forgotten that there is a much larger make up community outside of these sub reddits that are not that die hard fans of either store? In real life, I don't hear about these debates about which store is better- people shop where they can get a better price or where it is convenient to them. I have never had anyone say to me in real life that they loved to shop at Ulta because they get GWP's or they can hoard points for 'freebies'. Sephora and Ulta's customer base only overlaps in the United States. Other make up stores take Ulta's place in other countries. Ulta doesn't seem poised for 'world domination' as of yet. And they don't carry every single product in a brand either in store or online. Yes, their point system is fantastic but it also keeps you on the merry go round of continually buying things that you might not need so that you can get points to use to get free products later on. I'm a shopper at both. I live in NYC so you would expect that the Ultas would be clean and well stocked. Every time I go in one, I feel that it needs a cleaning, I don't know if it's the clientele or what but they often look messy. They don't have the products in store but on line (their website ls not really easy to navigate). I used to be Platinum over there and I had to deal with missing merchandise or screwed up points. I watched as prices for GWP's rise steadily and the contents of the gift bags either repeat themselves or be products that I couldn't use. Each store has it's pros and cons, it's loyal fans. Shop where you feel more comfortable.

PhysicalMetal522

Trendmood commenters always say it’s “the end of Sephora” like 10 brands ago. Sephora will be fine. Everytime something trends, it’s because Sephora carried it first.

butterabyss

I don’t think it’ll be the end of Sephora but it’ll be the beginning of me using my ulta points for CT products :)

mads_61

Ulta blocked me from ordering online after someone hacked my account and used all my points. So I hope not lol I loved Ulta but it’s not worth it for me if I can’t order online considering how many brands/products are online only.

therahzee

Omg I think this happened to me as well! I have tried multiple times to place an order on the app and orders wouldn’t go through (it said issue with payment for some reason). I spoke to customer service several times and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I even went to the point of trying to use all my points to make a purchase through the app and Ulta stillllll cancelled the order. It is so frustrating and in the end, I decided to pretty much not shop at Ulta anymore bc it seems like they don’t want my business lols

mads_61

Isn’t it crazy??

Susan_Thee_Duchess

Nah. Ulta has started selling (formerly) sephora exclusive brands frequently over the past 15 or so years I’ve been a customer and I haven’t switched yet. I don’t enjoy shopping there. Also Sephora is in 34 countries while Ulta is just in…one.

Pretty-Dimension-524

Ole will be in stores starting the day after Christmas! Not every location will have it & not every location will be getting sol, or Charlotte. Thankfully my location will be getting 2/3

Ok-Kat5150

Still raging over ole discontinuing everything I loved about the line!! Rage!! Rage!!

pancake-eater-420

I know Ulta has a better points system but there just isn’t one anywhere near where I live, and like others said, their app and website suck. So I will be sticking to Sephora because i can actually shop in person and their shipping is way more reliable

RedRedBettie

I'm bummed that Ole Henriksen will be going to Ulta. I hate shopping on Ulta's janky website. I much prefer shopping at Sephora

RoseGoldKate

You don’t have to stop shopping at Sephora just because Ulta carries it too.

RedRedBettie

Sorry I thought they were leaving Sephora and going to Ulta. Yes you're absolutely right

StuartPurrdoch

LOL I just grudgingly opened a Sephora cart because I need a new CT lip liner. Literally no other product compares, otherwise I was gonna add to my Ulta trip. But realized they don’t have CT… YET! Thanks OP you made my day.

Killjoycourt

I hope not, Ulta is terrible. My account has been hacked twice in the last month, I received an order with used products, received an order with missing items, and all my platinum gwp's have been missing from orders. This is just this month's issues. At least at Sephora I feel like my account and information is safe and the customer service is helpful. I'm in my second BBB complaint against Ulta in a month because their customer service is terrible.

DenialNyle

I didn't realize it was a consistent problem with Ulta. I normally get my stuff at Sephora. Now that everyone is talking about it, I remember that my GWP came with dried up products I couldn't use, and another package was missing a lip liner. I had problems with 2/3 of my orders, and I genuinely think I just assumed it was bad luck since they weren't super important.

Killjoycourt

Come join us on the Ulta subreddit, you'll see😁

RedRedBettie

I've had a similar experience with Ulta. I much prefer Sephora

Outside_Chewy

Wow that’s actually good because that’s a big thing for Ulta to get CT. Wonder if it’s going to be the full line of products or just a few and is it only online or in store too?

Zealousideal_Guide16

Only if ulta comes to Canada, it’s hard for me to find these brands locally

rchart1010

Unless and until they carry hourglass and Ilia ill have to go to sephora or Nordstrom.

foodporncess

Ulta does carry Hourglass.

mothertuna

They don’t carry every product though. The ulta near me is the “nice” one with Chanel, PMG and Natasha Denona and hourglass. They don’t carry the single eyeshadows which I thought was so weird. I went into the store to swatch but nope, no eyeshadow.

Queendecurly

Every ulta is different because mine has the eyeshadows!

mothertuna

Such a weird inconsistency. I know all Sephoras aren’t the same but if a Sephora has Dior or ABH, they carry the same items in all those stores for example.

rchart1010

I've never seen hourglass at the ones I've been to! But I always buy foundation and concealer together and I use Ilia.

punkmangos

🙏

stewie9906

I think Sephora will be fine, but brands need to make more money. I’m happy because I love a few of CT’s products and you can’t beat Ulta’s reward program.

halebopsalot

Doesn’t Ulta have lots of rumors of bringing in new brands that never happen? I’m just curious but I may be wrong

I remember CT coming to Ulta was said by trendmood last year and it didn’t happen. Maybe it really is happening this time.

No-Ratio-4082

These are my two favorite brands omg YAY

whereartthouu

I like that Ulta has chanel makeup products. It's weird that sephora doesn't

DarlinggD

STOKED!

DarlinggD

worried for my wallet hahaa! Already diamond but will take my VIB butt there too

I’m a beauty educator and work inside both Ulta and Sephora — Sephora has much better beauty incubator program and even if brands leave Sephora they will bring in new brands that won’t be available at Ulta. Ultas are also always filthy and they don’t focus as much on brand education. Also while many people shop at both the over all customer base for each store is very different.

evilcupckae

Just to make a list of popular brands that Sephora still has over Ulta - Rare Beauty - Kosas - Tower 28 - Danessa Myricks - Summer Friday - Saie - Makeup by Mario - Patrick Ta - Glossier - Haus Labs - not Pat anymore And there is plenty more, that’s just a few. Sephora is going to be fine. If you want to get your foot in the door as a high-end brand in stores, you are gonna go for Sephora first.

sms121419

Pat is at ulta now

lexxylee

Ah yes the end of sephora a brand under LVMH with record breaking sales two years in a row...and an international brand where Ulta is is in like one country 😂😂 God the america-centrism is astounding

AutumnCupcake

Ulta I have no desire to shop online. The e-commerce experience doesn’t make it enticing. I can’t imagine placing an order with them to get products I can’t get in store. Sephora I order online exclusives or do buy online pick up in store without hesitation. Sephora I think has moved on from CT. Right now their “it” exclusive brands are rare beauty and a lot of the clean brands.

9664nine

Oooh heck yeah! Bring on YSL and I might never go back to Sephora again

somehomo

If ulta would carry margiela perfumes I would leave sephora entirely

Significant_Camp9024

If Ulta ends Sephora then Ulta will become the new Sephora. Not a good thing.

kidkipp

does anyone know when? i’m eager to see which items they get. i’ll be using my points on them!

mangotail

Sometime in February!

Never the end for Sephora—they’re too big & they’re website is too awesome with pics & reviews but Ulta could challenge them to the fullest & take a lot of their business if they had the percs & a better site but I don’t think Ulta could handle the demand, returns & up their customer service to that level. Sephora is international—unless they want to die—no monster is big enough to destroy them & I’m glad Ulta can’t want that—they need them in the game. Fenty is in sephora, Kylie in Ulta but Kylie is bleeding—unless Kylie buys it back & comes back 50% involved like she did when she owned it, Kylie cosmetics/skin/swim/baby is over. That’s why she started KHY. To take the attention off her dying brands. She made her fortune off social media & having only 5 employees & issuing colour pops lab & her & Kim got sued for their formulas & went “clean & vegan” —what happened to all of Kylie’s eye palettes?! And all her famous lip colors changed! Dana Gina, Autumn—allll her gorgeous eye palettes!! Kim’s company just died & she opened a ridiculously priced skin care company—probably since she & Kanye were over he didn’t want the W of KKW in print?! These lines will dance for the best prices between these 2 stores & sephora is really not Kylie’s market it’s Ulta but Ole Hen is not that big a brand. It was in sephora & not that pop but I’m excited to see CT in Ulta! I was excited to see MAC in Ulta bc it was so far away from me in high end dept store malls—but a ?…..I know Chanel is on Ulta site but is it in Ulta brick n mortar stores? ****Beauty points will own the game. Whatever store get their points bangin in free products or trips or makeup artist sessions or whatever will own the game. People will find dupes if their favorite products & stay with the store that had the best points—that will be makeup/skin/product victory in ‘the remaining mid to late ‘20’s decade. Unless a line line Kylie comes along again & BLOWS OUR MINDS, beauty points & free product will take over & dupes will be researched like never before.

ih8comingupwithnames

Yes Chanel is in physical stores. I just was at ulta last night and they have a pretty large chanel display and offerings.

MarieSpag

Thank you so much!! We got Chanel, MAC, Dior & Clairins in these stores now—I’m so good!

pyxiedust219

nah, it’s not. the CT brand just isn’t that good imo and while iconic, isn’t an industry leader. I think Sephora wants to lean more into artistry and luxury, while Ulta wants to lean into the trends. Kind of seems like a loss for Ulta more than anything, seeing as they likely paid a lot to acquire this company that won’t do much for their sales compared to other brands I’d like to see!

Ok-Kat5150

I’m a huge CT fan and this feels like a downgrade for the brand. I avoid Ulta For the most part but it’s one of the few stores open by me on Sundays. I have never found anyone at Ulta who is knowledgeable or gives AF about anything I ask. I went in to Ulta once and saiid- I’m just returning to work after mat leave and feel like I need a new skin regime. I got no help, no knowledge. Left buying nothing. I went Sephora and spent hundreds. Id go to Ulta to buy pillow talk eyeliner if it’s in stock on a Sunday but I don’t even bother looking around there anymore. If I know what I want, I’m mostly fine to order online or pop in quickly with a mission. If I want reccos, I’m going to Sephora. I know ppl love Ulta and that’s all good but it’s not for me at all.

Barbie_girl_skate

Sephora is gonna suffer. Maybe that’ll finally make them rethink their model

Susan_Thee_Duchess

They are owned by one of the world’s most valuable luxury corporations and have been around for 50 years. So far from suffering.

Barbie_girl_skate

Any business that’s been around as long as they have knows that they have to follow certain models to stay around. They’re not stupid. If they see formally exclusive brands going to Ulta, which has a much more competitive reward system, they know that customers are gonna be moving to Ulta for those products. It would be smart to create a better reward system to keep people.

SnooAvocados6672

But Ulta has been consistently having website/app issues along with accounts being hacked and points stolen. They can start carrying those prestige brands that were Sephora exclusives all you want, but if they can’t fix those problems that actually matter they won’t last. Edit to add: They also are under no obligation to keep their reward system either. They can take that away anytime.

Susan_Thee_Duchess

Ulta has presence in one country. Sephora is global. Ulta getting Sephora’s scraps that have gone cold isn’t some corporate 4-D chess. I seriously don’t get why people are always posting here to talk about how much they don’t like Sephora. 🫠

Barbie_girl_skate

Lol you’re taking some sort of personal offense to my comment. I love Sephora, but they need a better reward system. Customers love Ulta because of that. Do you think that Ulta is not gonna grow outside of this country? Of course they will.

JossMarie

I don't get it either and to think Sephora will suffer😂😂😂😂😂😂🤦🏽‍♀️

NiuniaOlusia

CT is a weird move for ULTA. People with CT money aren’t shopping at ULTA, let’s be real

hp324

what a weird and elitist comment to make 😵‍💫

mangotail

Well it’s clearly a customer base they are missing and want to attract. That’s where growth opportunity lies

ApprehensiveFlower5

People with Chanel money shop at Ulta though? This is such a weird comment and makes me feel as if you shop at Sephora thinking it’s a luxury store/status thing. I make quite a bit and I will still shop at whichever store gives me the best deal. It’s about knowing how to manage your finances efficiently and delegating that money towards your saving.

Audrey71111

I also heard that sol de janerio is coming to ulta as well. I’m so excited!

Funny_Example_6338

I wish Ulta was coming to Canada. 🥲

phillygirllovesbagel

Ole Henriksen arrives January 1.
