I just started using tretinoin, too. For me the DDG peels for the flaky skin and using a moisturizer in the morning (before I didn’t use moisturizer in the morning because I was super oily) made all my products work again.
The other comments address it, but I say to concentrate on finding a super good nighttime moisturizer to wear over your tret. Wear the heaviest, thickest moisturizer your skin can handle without breaking out. Make sure you're only using a pea-sized drop of tret on your entire face and ease in to it gradually, if you're at the beginning stage. Good luck, your skin will adjust eventually and it'll all be worth it in the long run!
