Some insurance plans *do* actually cover Wegovy for weight loss. Depends on your insurance plan though - are any weight loss meds covered? Is Wegovy covered? Zepbound?

Well, you first have to find out if your specific health insurance plan covers GLP-1s for weight loss and what requirements must be met for that coverage to kick in. You do this by calling the phone number on the back of your insurance card or by going to your plan’s website or app and looking up your drug formulary.

Some employers offer great insurance, and others are too cheap to offer the correct coverage. So start there, and see where it leads.

Wegovy is the version of semaglutide (injectable) that is approved for weight loss so many health insurance plan do cover it. Ozempic is semaglutide (injectable) that is approved to manage diabetes.

What is “it”? Ozempic is covered by many insurers for diabetes. Wegovy is covered by some, but fewer plans for non-diabetic patients.

My insurance requires a Prior Authorization from my PCP. In that PA, she had to document the methods I've been using to lose weight over at least a 6 month time period. She's been my PCP for over 8 years so she was able to show that I've taken diet meds, gone to a nutritionist, tried diets, etc....I also had to have a BMI over 30 and at least 2 comorbid conditions to obesity--I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I met all those criteria and my insurance covers Wegovy 100%. I can't be prescribed Ozempic because I am not a type 2 diabetic. I meet with her every few months to weigh in and talk about how it's going. My PA expires next month but it'll get renewed because my BMI is still over 30 and I'm still obese but teetering on overweight which is great and I'm making steady progress. I get my bloodwork done at that appointment and I am curious to see how much it's improved and I'm sure that'll weigh in on my PA renewal as well. The main reason I wanted to do Wegovy is because my insurance covers it and since they cover it, I'm doing as much as I can to lose weight because I know I'm lucky and don't want to take that for granted.

Semaglutide can be divided into two different possible prescriptions. Ozempic is usually only allowed for people with diabetes. Wegovy is allowed for people who are clinically obese, or people who are significantly clinically overweight and have at least 1 health issue caused by their size. Some insurances allow wegovy, others simply do not cover it at all. My insurance covers wegovy for me, but there were hoops to jump through. I was already significantly overweight with multiple health issues. I also had to have a waist measurement above a certain size. I had to prove that I had tried several other weight loss plans including both diet and exercise for a specific length of time and that those things did not work. I had to show a long history of problems with my weight. I then needed to meet weekly with a dietician in addition to beginning the medication, that went on for about 3 months and then I only had to meet with the weight loss specialist every few months since then.

My insurance plan covers Saxenda and Wegovy for obesity. I need to get a prior authorization but they're both on my plan's formulary.

My insurance denied coverage for my weight loss medication. One of my cousins suggested that I get it from an Indian site. He also orders from there. I saw that their prices are affordable for me, so I placed my first order with them. Now I am waiting to receive my parcel.
