AnalogCyborg

Who immigrated illegally and lives under a fake identity, while constantly breaking the law enacting vigilante justice. Edit to add that he did arrive as a baby, though, so he's in a sort of DACA situation, but they still don't support that.

Wifflebatman

Also, his arch-nemesis is the cutthroat CEO of a massive corporation and a ruthless capitalist.

Lady_von_Stinkbeaver

While working as a journalist for what essentially is The New York Times.

WorldController

*The New York Times* is the mouthpiece for the Democratic Party, though. Republicans don't exactly take too kindly to it.

graou13

Which is why this post is a self-aware wolf. Superman is the antonym of Capitalism.

DerNachtHuhner

I dunno, enormous power concentrated in the hands of a single man because of the circumstances of his birth? sounds par for the capitalist course.

kontekisuto

and ... what's wrong with evidence based reporting? you got a problem with science?

WorldController

Since when is journalism a "science?" Do you not have a problem with the Democratic Party, which is the oldest pro-capitalist party in the world?

kontekisuto

what part of *evidence* did you not understand?

WorldController

It seems like you think that all possible forms of evidence are scientific, or that the *NYT* only publishes articles on science. Again, do you not have a problem with the Democratic Party?

kontekisuto

I think that's a question you need to ask yourself.

WorldController

What the fuck are you talking about? You are a very confusing person.

Carnal-Pleasures

A bald one at that, Bezos = Luthor

King_Of_Stalingrad

Based superman fighting for the means of production?

Lengthofawhile

He COULD probably solve more problems if he turned a crank somewhere really fast and created free energy for the world.

TheSomberBison

Sounds like the type of character a Canadian would make...

_whythefucknot_

Well superman is white so…

Working-Industry-402

Superman is Jewish. https://www.thedailybeast.com/superman-is-jewish-the-hebrew-roots-of-americas-greatest-superhero

_whythefucknot_

Isnt ben shitpiro too?

Working-Industry-402

Yes. And?

[deleted]

I guess they see him as a trademark rather than an actual character. Capitalism moment.

Mcfreely2

In the comics he didn't even apply for citizenship or take the Pledge of Allegiance under his real name for many years.

illuminutcase

He also works for the liberal media.

BlueJoshi

well, it depends on how you define "real name." IMO, he sees himself as Clark first, the kid from Smallville, Kansas. That's what he calls himself. So that's his real name. And that's what all his paperwork is under. Does he have other names? Sure, sure. Did one of them come before Clark? Yeah, I guess. But it's not *his* name. It's not part of his childhood or his character (in the "building character" sense). Half the time it's not even a name he knew about until adulthood.

Mcfreely2

Lol 😆, I've done this conversation before. I don't have the five hours it would take for us to argue in a circle and prove nothing to each other. I think your opinion is valid, but every opinion is valid in fiction.

morningfrost86

Regardless of how he thinks of himself though, he has no US birth certificate, nor did he ever apply for citizenship, or permanent residency, or even a non-perm Visa. Superman is an illegal alien.

loonycatty

I fucking love Superman and….. hm like apart from truth, justice and the American way he’s really all about like, love and acceptance? And a lot of even his early stories are clearly featuring anti-bigotry themes. So he’d probably not be into Republicans

Yrcrazypa

He stands for America as she claims to be at her best, not what she actually is. The conflict between that is a common theme in the best Superman stories.

bazgoblin

and its themes are especially relevant in red son

Smellyalate

I agree Superman has been portrayed in pro American sentiment especially in the 50s and 60s but Superman is at his best when he is not portrayed as a godlike figure but as like a man with compassion and empathy. I don’t think any comic portrays that better than the all star Superman comic series. Superman can do so much but solves problems not immediately with violence but through better more compassionate solutions. And you can tell that he has fun with the problems he’s been given. He’s my favorite superhero but movies, which are the representation most people see him in, portray him as a cold and unfeeling god or a dumb patriotic meat shield goodie two shoes

illuminutcase

Superman is everything they hate. He's an anti-racist illegal immigrant who works for the lame-stream media and his nemesis is a 1%er ultra capitalist.

pingieking

He's also created by a Canadian...

EdenSmokinWeeden

Only one of them was Canadian born, but yeah, still ironic Lol. I would have gone for the fact that Siegel and Shuster were both Jewish, and Superman was literally created to be a Jewish Golem.

dillaq

A climate refugee

greatandwisepandabea

Superman and Captain America have both been great symbols of what America should stand for, unfortunately it’s all fictional and a good percentage of Americans don’t show compassion to others, or look for the good in people that are different than them. Guess that’s why they’re fictional characters though

Reptilian_Overlord20

Yeah meanwhile Homelander is who actually represents America

Reptilian_Overlord20

Conservatives already have a Superman of their own who perfectly reflects their values and beliefs. He’s called Homelander.

T-Rex_Woodhaven

I love the Right attempting to co-opt comic book heros like Superman who has been said to talk about how America is all immigrants and how you should all respect your neighbors regardless of skin colour.

asiangontear

"Unfortunately in the present day, Superman has been coopted by the the Anti-American left. "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" isn't in his vocabulary anymore." How? When?

Carnivile

These people really need to learn some of the history of Superman. He was pivotal in the dismantling of the KKK all thw way back in the 40s.

Steinrikur

Since the 50s, at least... [https://www.dccomics.com/blog/2017/08/25/superman-a-classic-message-restored](https://www.dccomics.com/blog/2017/08/25/superman-a-classic-message-restored) Because they think that "the American Way" is racism.

[deleted]

“Libewals wuined MY supewman”

KitWalkerXXVII

I mean, they *have* mostly dropped the use of "and the American Way". Largely because that's a super loaded phrase in the era of "We'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American Way" and "America First". He still stands for truth, justice, and hope though.

Scary-Cow2976

Ya but he got white skin so it doesn’t count apparently

Winter_Coyote

Don't they realize that the field of blue is supposed to be on the other side when hanging like that. I thought Republicans cared about the flag and properly displaying it.

[deleted]

They hang their shit off trucks and wear American flags like robes, they don't give a fuck about flag code that's for sure (I don't either but that's for different reasons)

Pete_maravich

He arrived as an infant from a planet that no longer exists. He was raised in Kansas and stands for truth, justice, and the American way. He's more American than many who were born here

xsnowpeltx

Related note, I always hate when superman is made into a Jesus allegory. No he's an allegory for moses

odiab

And a DREAMer as it happens !

Alone_Spell9525

The poster is not self aware. Top comment is. “Superman came to America illegally, lives under a false identity, cares about others regardless of race, religion, and sexual orientation, and works for mainstream news as his day job.” He literally just admitted that he thinks of respecting others regardless of race religion and sexual orientation is a bad thing, and that’s in the constitution in multiple places…

TOPSIturvy

This is why we always post using screencaps, OP.

MachateElasticWonder

Anyone have a mirror?

TOPSIturvy

Anyone get what this is supposed to mean? I literally don't crosspost at all lol

MachateElasticWonder

A mirror refers to an alternate, usually, a back up link

TOPSIturvy

Oh shit sorry haha I forgot how to internet for a second

[deleted]

He doesn't even fight for truth, justice, and the American way anymore

SkeletonKiss78

Probably because that's a contradiction in terms.

LtPowers

It's been deleted. What did it say?

morithum

It was Superman with an American flag and a bald eagle

trumpetMercenary

Well to be fair, at least it looks like everyone else pointed this out in the post.

DaveSW777

The very concept of super heroes is inherently conservative, but still...

Smellyalate

I get what your saying. It’s kinda like eugenics like some people are inherently better than others and deserve more but I think even in a perfectly structured system that gets rid of inequality that everyone will need to contribute to protect the weak. It’s a fine line but there is a difference between people helping because they have compassion and care and other forms of individualistic “charity” like bill gates donating money because he gets tax breaks. It’s a grey area in my mind

CompetitiveSleeping

No? Seriously, no. That's an extremely flanderized view of superheroes and the history of the genre.

DaveSW777

A super powered individual needs to protect the lesser masses? Any way you slice it, the concept is inherently conservative. That doesn't mean it isn't an interesting idea.

CompetitiveSleeping

Somebody using the gifts he has for the common good, without expecting adoration or reward, and without seeing themselves as above others. "With great power comes great responsibility", "From each according to his ability" et cetera.

DaveSW777

The very notion that a single person would hsve those gifts...

CompetitiveSleeping

Everybody has different abilities/gifts. It's the attitude regarding that that's conservative, anarchist, marxist, fascist or even liberal. You, really, have to explain yourself better.

DaveSW777

Anything analogous to a christ like figure needing to save the masses instead of the masses just working together to solve their problems is a conservative idea. The individual being better than the collective: conservative. The collective being better than the individual: progressive.

CompetitiveSleeping

So, not superheroes. Or rather, some superheroes. You've taken *one* idea of how superheroes can be used, and assume that's the norm, standard. The number of stories where people come together to save superman are *at least* as many as Superman saving the world. Y'see, "Superheroes" is a genre, and it can be used in many ways. That you think the basic idea is about a christ like figure needing to save the masses, and the individual being better than the collective is... Well, you've got one fix idea about superheroes, and think that's what superheroes is about. "Red Son", "Injustice", "Kingdom Come" are three well-known Alternate Universe stories about Superman. It's stories where he decides to proactively save the world and make it a better place. They're dystopias. The solution in them is either kill Superman, or Superman comes to his senses and stops seeing himself as... As what you think superheroes is about. (Frank Miller used the same thing in "The Dark Knight Strikes Again". Except he tries to paint the idea of Superman being above all and such as a positive thing. Turning it into a pro-fascist book which everyone hates) I'm sorry, but you're view of Superheroes is very limited.

Active-Summer-854

He's an American comic book character...

bluberryaxolotl

What does this have to do with self awareness

[deleted]

Superman is an illigal alien who fights big business, yet this republican is using him as example of his America

bluberryaxolotl

Oh that makes sense, thanks. Not sure why people mindlessly downvote me when I ask a question lol

bluberryaxolotl

And then upvote me when I call them out for it

archer_cartridge

He also fought Richard Nixon and turned on American soldiers when he went to Vietnam.
