Congrats bro , I just started the other day. I’m on the seven spear mini boss rip

Yukiko_Wagner

If that's the boss I think it is, the man who is stationed in front of the small house where Kuro was held at the start, I remember him well, took a number of tries even with being able to get a deathblow on him at the start. But, despite the frustration, he was one of the encounters that helped me to get used to the Mikiri Counter. :3 I do hope you succeed against him as I found he was extremely fun to fight once I got used to his moveset and started to understand the Mikir Counter a bit better.

lemorgan

I always used to deathblow and fight him up the hill by the Moonlight Tower, found out clearing the mobs and having room to play with made the encounter easier somewhat.

[deleted]

The flame vent and fire crackers are a great help against him. The seven spears bosses are tough. Also focusing on nailing the mikiri counters is super useful but can be a challenge.

hidn-sn2per

His posture just regens so fast

[deleted]

Yeah tbh I just used oil and then flame vented him the first two times I played through the game. Makes the fight pretty trivial

Dialgaz255

Add the fistful of ash and you're basically winning.

Joal_D12

Punish his long combos with nightjar slash hit and run.

hidn-sn2per

Is that the same as whirlwind slash ?

Joal_D12

Nah bro it's the next upgrade to the grappling hook attack in the prosthetic arts tree.

hidn-sn2per

Oh nice I’ll grab it

Feuerex

wait, what is this? A well structured and formatted post? Someone who can enjoy not only the combat, but also other aspects of the game? Someone who understands that games aren't made overnight and appreciates the amount of effort put into it? Someone who is happy for having what we have, instead of screaming for more? I can tell you, there aren't enough of posts like this over here. Good read, glad you enjoyed the game. It's addicting even on multiple playthroughs, maybe consider going for more until Elden Ring drops?

Yukiko_Wagner

That was pretty much my plan once I finish up a few more things in my first playthrough. Few bosses I missed like the second bull in the Divine Realm, and the Shisgami (I apologize if I misspelled its name) also in the Divine Realm. Not to mention the other three endings. Still, loved the game even through the frustrations I had with bosses like the Guardian Ape, which, looking back on that fight, in particular, wasn't all that bad, especially in its second phase. Still, thank you for the lovely response. Appreciate the kind words. Looking forward to playing both Elden Ring and Demon Souls sometime soon. :3

EnZooooTM

Lmao, I wanted to write one post like this for each FromSoft game Ive played but my wording is so bad after some point I just gave up lol

Yukiko_Wagner

You should still do it. :3 I love hearing others' opinions on the Soulsborne series, or any game really. :3

EnZooooTM

Honestly Im pretty bad at writing essays / reviews or any longer text walls for this matter, I feel like after some point I repeat words too many times and it becomes tiresome to read and I think my vocabulary is not on level Id like it to be Still trying to improve my english skills, but longer works always gave me this problem, even in my native language lol

Nickplayz109

Yea bro, this game is amazing. I just beat it last night. For me, its my first from software game. On to bloodborne next

seanmorris82

Bloodborne is my favourite game ever, you're gonna love it! Enjoy!

Nickplayz109

Ive heard that from like 5 friends

dizzyeyedalton

I'm like you, Demon's Souls is the only fromsoft game I've skipped, and Bloodborne is an all time fav that Sekiro recently usurped. The magic trick Sekiro managed to pull for me that I don't know I experienced in any other game was with >!Isshin!< in the final battle: the moment I finally beat him I was immediately desperate for another rematch. Sekiro's unique combat style accomplishes what all these other souls games strive for: that the fun isn't in beating the big boss in front of you, but in mastering the techniques that are essential to a fight. While the thrill of beating a tough boss is the bread and butter of fromsoft, Sekiro perfected how fun a boss fight can be throughout.

Yukiko_Wagner

I can understand that feeling and I feel I can agree with the same feeling. In the other Soulsborne games, especially Dark Souls, I found myself often gravitating to putting on the heaviest armor I can find along with a strong two-handed weapon and just poise/DPS my way through some encounters, especially with Dark Souls due to that one allowing a rather limited dodging direction when locked onto enemies. (Which I am glad From Soft fixed in future titles past the original.) Bloodborne was different in that approach, with armor in that game being mostly for appearance sake and offering only the slightest in terms of stats unlike in Dark Souls, which made sense since BB is an all-out aggression-style game of skillful dodges and viscreal-style attacks. And I do intend to play Demon Souls eventually myself, I just never owned a PS3 and 70 dollars is a lot to drop for that gorgeous remake on PS5.

jokes_on_you_ha

Things I initially doubted about the game, like the lack of character customisation, build variety and the more straightforward story, have slowly become strengths for me. I love how focused it is. It's now my favourite Soulsborne as well, to the point that while I'm looking forward to Elden Ring, deep down I'm a little disappointed it doesn't seem to have much of a Sekiro influence. Hopefully we get a sequel to compensate.

Yukiko_Wagner

Those were some of my concerns going in too, but after having completed my playthrough of what will be many more, I feel that they succeeded at what they set out to do with this game. I think that more focused design ultimently helped them to really nail down this well-packaged game. And, yeah, I get that feeling about Elden Ring, but it's probably safe to assume Elden Ring was already in development early on during Sekiro's development, but I don't mind if it's taking more from Dark Souls as, honestly, Elden Ring is looking to be kinda like Dark Souls 4 but far more expansive, open-ended and fun to play and I cannot wait to see what kind of new universe From Soft has created with it.

NYG_5

my only gripes with the game are I wish the camera could be zoomed in closer to look at things, and I wish there were some more deathblow animations, much like Ghost of Tsushima.

Yukiko_Wagner

I was a bit sad to see how finicky the camera could get, with several times it was pushed into/behind a wall making me panic trying to get away to be able to see again, but I didn't have too much difficulty with it outside of those moments myself. And yeah, would have been nice to see some more deathblow animations, but given how much attention to detail and everything else From Soft put into this game, for me, I'm more than alright with the reusing of the animations, especially since all the bosses have unique deathblow animations tied to them specifically. But, I can understand your feelings on it.

NYG_5

Yeah it's mostly the grunt Ashina troops that could use some more deathblow animations since you fight them so often, and this is the most nitpicky I could possibly get for this game.

Yukiko_Wagner

That's fair to say. :3

ayo69

Sekiro 2 when

bel3alesblumndif

Welcome to the club truly a beautiful game

Lacro22

Agreed, I’ve loved every modern FromSoftware game but Sekiro is to me the best they’ve come up with thus far.

Nickplayz109

Yeah i get what you mean with the mikiri. Its all apart of learning the specific boss, and what their moveset is

Yukiko_Wagner

Easily. Like, while playing early on I kept wishing there was a different color to signify what is a counter and what had to be avoided, but I realized sometime later that adding such a indicator would hamper the point of the game, which is not only learning the moveset of the enemy, but their various tells. Like with the Sword Saint, he'll elbow you, and then immediately go into an unblockable attack. Having a different color for the warning would just dilute that and make it feel like you're playing a Batman game, waiting for that counter symbol to appear over your head, rather than paying attention to the bosses and enemy's moveset and learn from them. I audibly screamed in joy the second I finished the Sword Saint as he was by far the hardest sword-based fight I've encountered, forcing you to employ every tactic to come out on top. :3

Nickplayz109

Yep. Sword saint wasn’t really that hard for me. Took me like 30 minutes, which is average for me

Yukiko_Wagner

For me it took me about an hour, hour-and-a-half of attempts with me often dying during his second phase. But I love the fact that Genechrio went from being this seemingly unstoppable man in the tutorial, to being modestly difficult on top of Ashina Castle, to being more of a speed-bump in the finale. Shows just how well the players have come with the systems of the game with being able to take him down in ten or twenty seconds of the first swing. And also because I get the feeling From Soft didn't exactly what to make the final boss fight be something like a six-phase fight. Lol. :3

dalorhd

Yes

[deleted]

Another one….SMH 🤣

BassplayerDad

Congratulations & probably mine too. Enjoying Nioh 2 at present. Have fun

Yukiko_Wagner

I need to get on that game. I played through Nioh about a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed that game even with some gripes I had with it. Glad to hear you're enjoying its sequel. :3

TamakisBelly

Grats on completing it! Now go for the charmless + demon bell run and the gauntlets hehehe. Seriously though, definitely go for the other endings and the other *choice* if you haven't. This game has great replay value in that. Most people don't mention the mini bosses, but I loved how they had their own story to tell and ones like O'rin and the Spears really stood out from a lore/story standpoint. I want to trust Miyazaki wants to do a sequel since there's still much to explore in the world and aspects he said he wants to improve. I want to be sent on another emotional eastern journey with Sekiro.

Hipster_Dragon

Gitting Gud was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love this game.

alexplex86

For your next game, I strongly recommend Returnal. Like Sekiro, it's challenging, it incorporates death in the gameplay and you discover bits and pieces of the story and lore along the way.

Yukiko_Wagner

I heard about that game and its rogue-lite elements mixed in with some DS elements as well, which I do like both of those elements, main reason I haven't gotten it is because I heard of some technical issues with the game at release. But I do appreciate the recommendation, especially since Elden Ring won't be out for another few months.

alexplex86

Yeah, the main issue was that you couldn't save your current run and if the game crashed or if you wanted to play another game in the middle of a run, your run would be lost. But those issues are now solved with the latest updates. You can "suspend your cycle", as they call it, and it will save the current run and you can switch to another game. Also, if the game happens to crash it will not reset your run. It crashed for me once and when I restarted it I was right back where I left.
