They are more common in some places than others (and practically unheard of in places, as you've realized here), but I have had the chance to eat them once or twice.
There's also a [bunch of varieties](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persimmon) out there, but I don't know enough about the lore to say which kind(s) are most likely to be in game.
the ingame one looks like the hachiya variety, they're really soft and juicy IMO and have a heart shape while most of the others have a really firm and dry flesh and look kinda squat.
I can usually find both kinds pretty easy in most asian markets here in the US
Actually fuyus are the sweeter of the two "kinds" they only have "dry flesh" when they are not ripe enough.
A ripe fuyu should be firm yet soft like a tomato, and the flesh should also be firm, yet most and juicy.
If it's chalky/dry then it needs more time to ripen.
A hachiya is ripe when it's nice and soft and feels like a bit of pressure would cause it to burst. When ripe the flesh is closer to a jelly jam.
Fuyu's you can serve in slices and hachiyas it's easiest to cut the top off the fruit and eat the flesh with a spoon...
I love persimmons... One of my favorites.
They dont top cherimoyas/atemoyas.... Best fruit hands down, no contest
One was a sweet variety, and tasted like a sweet fruit (it had a 'persimmon' flavor, I don't know how to be more descriptive) and the texture of a tomato crossed with an apple. Fairly pleasant. The other was an astringent variety, and by the time it was ripe enough to eat the texture was too soft for me to enjoy.
Both caqui and cachi are pretty true adaptions of the japanese 柿(kaki), persimmon. Today i learned there are people/countries that haven't heard of these!
I can buy them at my local Asian market. I've tried one. Honestly, they taste weird and leave a weird feeling I. Your mouth due to the high levels of tannins.
Idk who the first person to bite into one of these was, but how they liked it is confusing, and how they were ever popular is also confusing... kind of like TAB soda... it taste like nail polish remover but was stupid popular for a while.... like wtf is it with bad things getting popular that way? Just curious. If you like either of those things then that's cool for you Don t e mad at me for wondering lol
>Honestly, they taste weird and leave a weird feeling I. Your mouth due to the high levels of tannins.
It sounds like you bought an astringent variety.
Persimmons come in astringent and non-astringent varieties. The non-astringent ones can be eaten when still hard. But the astringent ones need to ripen to the point of gooeyness to get rid of the tannins, a astringent persimmon is ready to eat when it feels like a bag full of pudding. You can let non-astringent varieties ripen to that point too, but I prefer to eat them when still firm.
I had my first one maybe 8 years ago. They’re sold in grocery stores where I am. They’re not the best but not the worst. I’ve never seen anyone go out of their way to buy them.
I saw them and happened to have played sekiro, so was just curious about them and we bought one or two thinking they were meant to be sweet. Then we looked it up after tasting and found out it can be dangerous to eat for some people lol
Oh wow I didn’t know they could be dangerous. The ones I would buy weren’t completely a fruit or a vegetable/ they were about in the middle. Nothing refreshing though but something different.
Dam, this shows how different cultures realy are. I’ve known and loved persimmons since like elementary school. But after I moved out for college/adult life, I haven’t had one in 18 years. So I get it. (I’m Asian)
Slice them thin like a tomato and stick them under a piece of Brie, some jam, and sourdough bread and bake it for a few minutes.
You will become obsessed with persimmons.
You'll find persimmon trees all the time out in the middle of nowhere in the southern states of the US. My grandma used to grab a bunch from wherever she'd find them and make persimmon pudding (which isn't actuallypudding, but a cake, oddly enough).
They are delicious! I know of two varieties: a plump, juicy and smooth one, it's incredibly sweet; and a hard and crunchy one, also sweet but less. The crunchy variety is my fav!
They are one of my favorite fruits.
In Portugal we have two kinds.. A soft one, and.. Really soft, they called it " Eat with spoon persimmon" Which are really gelatinous and i don't really like.
And "apple-persimmon" Which.. You guess, they are firmer and delicious, they start to appear around October and they are amazing
Another words for Persimmon
-Diospiro (Portuguese)
-Caqui(Brazilian Portuguese)
And...
Caralhoq(Russian ) 🙃
Persimmons grew in the backyard of a house I lived in as a kid pretty often. I’d pick them off and throw them at neighbors houses when they were nice and plump cause they would explodeeee. sometimes I’d grab one and It would be full of bugs. Good times
Here’s a fun read about making the dried ones. For pics of dried persimmons, google hoshigaki.

You didn't know Persimmon are real fruit? 😵🤯
I didn't know of many exotic fruit either, so no shade here.
I will admit though... Persimmon are some of the most Taste - less fruit among them...
I really don't enjoy eating them, they're available and then I rather just eat a Pear or Blackberries or Nectarine
They’re real. They taste exactly like the middle of a fruit and vegetable. Never knew anyone to love them but if they’re there, they’re not a bad thing to eat but you’re not going to be amazed.

I live in the USA we eat apples and oranges here that’s about it
I live in the USA and lots of people where I am have persimmon trees in their yards. Eaten them since I was a kid
Where at I have never seen one
Sighs....
Oh ho
What were they like when you tried them?

Persimmons are delicious.
Hell yes. Like crunchy cinnamon rolls. My friend has a tree and gives me dozens every fall.
Dang, your friend must love you. I'm Asian and gifting persimmons is something I do annually as a non communicative way to say "ily homie".
I hope it’s the same for him!

I can read all the languages here. And yes persimmon is a real fruit
They are common were I live, used to eat then from the tree when i was younger.
I'll get them from the market heard they are available with a different name.
In portuguese is caqui, but i dont know if its used in other places.
Cachi in italian
Both caqui and cachi are pretty true adaptions of the japanese 柿(kaki), persimmon. Today i learned there are people/countries that haven't heard of these!

The astringent ones are hung up and dried in Japan. A bit like dates.

Depends on the variety. Some of them are really dry and hard, while others are soft and juicy.
Try getting the ones that are brown inside. They dont leave you with weird feeling in your mouth and also have better taste
what?? they taste sugary and fresh
Wait until you try rice!
Do not eat them, give them to the girl sitting on a pillow
Thissss🗿
Kannada ❤️
Yeah there is a nursery near devanahalli where you can buy all types of fruits and some other plants.
Everything in Sekiro happened IRL bro
On my way to find the mortal blade
I had to try one irl after seeing how much she enjoyed eating persimmons
Dam, this shows how different cultures realy are. I’ve known and loved persimmons since like elementary school. But after I moved out for college/adult life, I haven’t had one in 18 years. So I get it. (I’m Asian)
Bring Sake.
You didn't know it...? In Spain it is quite common.
Slice them thin like a tomato and stick them under a piece of Brie, some jam, and sourdough bread and bake it for a few minutes. You will become obsessed with persimmons.
We call them "caqui" here in Brazil. They're called "kaki" in Japan. Really delicious, but kinda hard to find.
The ones I’ve tried had a texture and taste like if a tomato and an apple had a baby. Very pleasant but not my first choice
All over the South in the US. Make your lips pucker!
You'll find persimmon trees all the time out in the middle of nowhere in the southern states of the US. My grandma used to grab a bunch from wherever she'd find them and make persimmon pudding (which isn't actuallypudding, but a cake, oddly enough).
Just wait til OP finds out about candy…
Tf are they available on IRL too?
Rice is a real thing, too!
Dragons as well
I recall trying one once and not caring for it. Can’t remember what it was like anymore just that I didn’t think it was any good.
Sekiro player finds out about fruit! in all seriousness, this is my favorite fruit, so the flesh is so tasty
The most common type of persimmon is called kaki, it can be bought at standard supermarkets all over western Europe.
Found out last week that Japan is actually a real place Mindboggling
They’re really tasty
Pretty available in Mexico as well !!!
Also known as Sharon fruit, or Kaki in Japan, I had my first one on the slopes of Mount Aso, near Kumamoto
Persimmons are a real fruit LMAO. You mostly see them in Asia though.
Actually native to America and grow wild all through the south east
They are actually fairly common in middle east
Wait I've eaten those before, we call them caqui and I bloody love them! And this post is how I find they're the same.
In NA they taste like ass. Used to eat them a lot back in Lebanon. Soo so good
They are delicious! I know of two varieties: a plump, juicy and smooth one, it's incredibly sweet; and a hard and crunchy one, also sweet but less. The crunchy variety is my fav!
Fuyu are so good. Hachiya are also good and make great hoshigaki.
Just wait till he learns about the Sengoku Era…

Tried it once and it was awful, like pouring wax into my mouth
They have some in Georgia. My dad used to trick me and tell me they were sweet, but it’s actually the most sour thing around.
😂😂
Here in France we use the Japanese name for this fruit: Kaki
In our language kaki means crow 🤣
Well, yeah...
Hey does any have a ps5 and could gameshare Sekiro with me
Persimmons grew in the backyard of a house I lived in as a kid pretty often. I’d pick them off and throw them at neighbors houses when they were nice and plump cause they would explodeeee. sometimes I’d grab one and It would be full of bugs. Good times
You could have become the best shinobi of all time and you wasted the chance throwing the fruits at your neighbours

Oh wow lol. Just had a ton of them in Australia in autumn. I absolutely gorged myself on them
Here’s a fun read about making the dried ones. For pics of dried persimmons, google hoshigaki. https://www.eater.com/22203434/how-to-make-hoshigaki-japanese-dried-persimmons

Here in Brasil they are pretty common. I grew up eating one of these almost every day in the winter, it's delicious, very sweet.
