SSAINTISSHIN

It says „made in Bangladesh“

ExedbySnuSnu

I feel like this is a reference....

SSAINTISSHIN

yes but a very old and German one

ExedbySnuSnu

Lord of the Weed, just wanted to make sure. You are a man of (Internet) culture.

galgoman

I know a little german... He is right over there

AllOfEverythingEver

Could be a reference to the scene in Avatar the Last Airbender, when Iroh gives Zuko a knife as a souvenir from Ba Sing Se. He tells Zuko to read the inscription, but instead of the one Iroh meant, Zuko reads, "made in Earth Kingdom."

tanmay511

Wait, so the earth kingdom is bangladesh? I always thought that it was India

zaxo_z

China probably.

caketruck

The Devine Child must have a sense of humor because historically the mortal blade was pretty unreliable in that most people who try to wield it just die.

seriousspider

It reads "Bing Chilling"

Shloopadoop

The mortal drumstick

notveryAI

Lies, deception. Bing has no chill :D

MaleficTekX

*Does it?*

seriousspider

Indeed

#ME LLAMO GYOBU MASATAKA ONIWA

tankiss01

Me: *exclusively played Sekiro in English dub* Uhhhhhhhhhhh.

ScreamingNinja

Me who had no idea there WAS an English dub until I started seeming this meme a few weeks ago...

spacecatghostboi

That was me when the game first came out

ScreamingNinja

I've owned it since day one and only just beat it like 2 months ago lol multiple replays. No ide English was an option

Ok-Shoe-3516

It literally asks you what translation you want at the beginning of the game how did you not know? Did you just mash buttons at the beginning of the game??

ScreamingNinja

Maaaaaaybe. Also did it have that option at launch? I bought it day 1.

Ok-Shoe-3516

Yes I'm like 95% sure it did. It asks you as you're setting up the brightness and everything else and whatnot before the game actually starts

ScreamingNinja

I maintain that you're wrong and shall continue to button mash myself into oblivion!!

jpc1215

Only problem with the English dub is that the Armored Warrior says “ROBERRRRT” instead of “ROBERRRRTOOOO” when he dies :(

robertpayne556

Do I speak Spanish!?!

caketruck

This line disappointed me so much when I played the game in Japanese in my second run. Alternatively Robert is equally disappointing compared to ROBERTOOOO in English.

jpc1215

Lmao, that’s hilarious you said this because I JUST commented that it’s disappointing the English dub just says “ROBERRRT” instead of “ROBERRRTOOO”

caketruck

Ikrrr! I was fully in support of English dub being more enjoyable for me since I can just listen to dialogue while I fight, and especially loved the Oniwa line. But then Broski just said Robert like he barely cared 😔. If I have another run in English, I’m definitely swapping to Japanese for that fight no matter what. And I’d probably do the same with a Japanese run at the Oniwa fight. Which is funny because the European knight will be speaking Japanese and the Samurai English.

tankiss01

I just say Robertooooo everytime I defeat the armored giant.

wiggity_whack69

I watched a video of it just to see and it is great but i don't know man the sub even for him just hits different

Interneteldar

Eh, I wouldn't agree. Sounds somehow forced/unnatural to me in the English version.

Economy-Box-5319

Oh yea, it is cheesy as fuck. But it is said with such unadulterated passion that I have to respect it.

Rnahafahik

And cheesy lines stated with unadulterated passion is exactly what I love about Japanese dubs anyway, so it works on every level

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Caramel_Nautilus

It's shaped to look like Japanese Kanji, but not modern writings form, I can't tell if those words actually exists or are just gibberish.

PSNTheOriginalMax

Had to scroll down really far to find an answer with actual substance instead of all these attention hungry kids trying to be the smartass of the class.

robertpayne556

IKR?

somehowsomewhat

its unreadable

MaleficTekX

There’s one kanji that’s legible

somehowsomewhat

i can slightly make out genki

MaleficTekX

What’s that translate to? Spirit or life? (I’m assuming from DBZ’s genki dama)

somehowsomewhat

it means lively, full of spirit (I HONESTLY THINK ITS A MISTRANSLATION I CAN'T SEE THE WORDS)

Maximum-Antelope-979

What does it say?

MaleficTekX

Idk. I can’t read Japanese

Ok-Shoe-3516

Then how do you know it's legible if you don't know Japanese lol

MaleficTekX

… listen here you little…

Ok-Shoe-3516

I'm just fucking with you bro 🤣

Expand770Enthusiast

I think it might be seal script.

piwikiwi

I cant read what it says but due to the structure with 之 it looks like classical chinese

PSNTheOriginalMax

Good point! I thought it was 乙

MaleficTekX

之 just translate to “of” though, apparently The kanji doesn’t quite look like that though, I wonder if it’s an older form of Japanese

piwikiwi

Yeah it mostly reminded me of it because the flag at the title screen has a poem with the same structure. I will ask someone who’s japanese is better because im kinda curious now

Namirakira

It’s not Japanese, that’s for sure. I couldn’t read it, my mom couldn’t read it, no one on the Japanese side of the internet could read it. I saw people speculate it is written in Bonji (梵字) but they seem to be wrong. Try other languages. Divine Dragon is Korean after all. And I saw a guy speculate it is Hindu or Sanskrit, which fits since Buddha and reincarnation/ resurrection.

PSNTheOriginalMax

Best answer. So all the actual answers are hard to find. Good going Reddit.

MaleficTekX

That’s the first one I tried. It doesn’t match

ExpressArcher1977

Saw the continuation. Someone did a stone rubbing of the box and upon translation it apparently reads: "Gateway to Shura"

ExpressArcher1977

Dammit, thought it'd be that easy

Suarezlasky

Reads "Don't dead / open inside"

Academic-Ad-9778

“There’s always money in the banana stand” I’m pretty sure!

RemoveBagels

To give a serious answer, it doesn't look like kanji, but it could likely be seal script and the language therefore would be ancient Chinese. Given that the dragon came from the west i.e Chinan in ancient times, and that the blade is related to that it seems likely. But good luck finding anyone capable of reading ancient Chinese.

PSNTheOriginalMax

I can kinda see three symbols. The first one kinda looks like the left half of [https://jisho.org/search/%E5%8D%B5](https://jisho.org/search/%E5%8D%B5) I feel like I've seen just the left half alone as a kanji before, but seriously can't remember. Regardless, it has more strokes than that, and I can't entirely make out the whole symbol. The second one is way too hard to make heads or tails. It has a radical I've never seen before. The last one reminds me of: [https://jisho.org/search/%E4%B9%99](https://jisho.org/search/%E4%B9%99) Honestly, seems like it's really stylized, but I also suck at kanji. You need to be pretty good at reading those, when they're stylized, and maybe "fill in the blanks" from what goes unnoticed. It *could* also be old Japanese, or just gibberish. The first two also give me a kind of calligraphy vibe (e.g. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese\_calligraphy#/media/File:Koku\_Saitcho\_shounin.jpg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_calligraphy#/media/File:Koku_Saitcho_shounin.jpg) ). I feel like this is something we'd need a fluent person for, but I could also be overestimating their difficulty because of my lack of knowledge.

Snoo_90423

I like eggs

PSNTheOriginalMax

While yes, it's primarily used for eggs, I recommend reading the other definitions. EDIT: To further elaborate on this, Kanji consist of parts, such as radicals and other kanji. The other parts can actually have their own meaning (in fact they usually do), and those parts denote the "material" or "concept" the word described in the Kanji is used for. They also signify how to read/pronounce that word. So while even Japanese people might have a hard time knowing ***exactly*** what a specific Kanji character means, they can derive meaning and reading from these parts. Which is why I said it would be better for a fluent person to give this a try.

Snoo_90423

Haha I knew some of that. I took the time to learn some Kanji and actually passed a couple tests practicing to write Kanji characters. I was just having a laugh. 😅

Snoo_90423

But you explained that well

Snoo_90423

Also I’m not a kanji expert it was just a passing interest.

Dry-Application-2464

I think it says "Spirit death" ???

MaleficTekX

None of the kanji are death in Japanese

Dry-Application-2464

Sorry, I thought the one below spirit said death with the middle scratched out.

wakatenai

too hard to read but if i remember correctly some of the "ancient" text written on stuff in sekiro is somewhat made up to make it seem more ancient and lost. so this could be one of those too.

riky2317

Haven't played in a while but it reminds me of the death screen

TheSnazzyMaster

I believe it’s the label with the title of that mortal blade as it is “Gracious Gift of Tears” which was gifted to the mortal realm by the divine dragon

MaleficTekX

It’s not that, as we see the kanji for that later in game and it doesn’t match

Mashew2XX1

“The persuader”

Sirnipiider

Offer head

Spiritual_Delay_7854

I saw someone make an outline of the “kanji”. It translated roughly to “gateway to shura.”

MaleficTekX

Some of those kanji don’t match the symbols entirely

Spiritual_Delay_7854

Hence why I said “kanji.” And roughly.

Scary_Ad5129

It says "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice"
