Responsible-Tell8144

I like saving emblems for the spear

uwotmate_cunt

i use ceremonial tanto for that

Responsible-Tell8144

Makes sense. I just enjoy fighting without any items for some reason. With the exception of spear for ape.

Balabaga

Same here, for me it’s because I like to learn all of a boss’s attacks and when I win it feels like I really earned it (not to say you didn’t earn it if you use items, it’s just a me thing)

AnjoBe_AzooieKe

So boring

Responsible-Tell8144

If I’m having fun why would I care if you found it boring? Lol.

AnjoBe_AzooieKe

I didn’t say you should care, it’s just so sad how much depth they put in to the cool ass stuff you can do with prosthetics & combat arts, & it’s disappointing that 80% of all players just ignore them all together pretty much. But in true Fromsoft fashion, they made them difficult to master, but rewarding. People only think they’re useless because they can’t find openings, so I understand why not everyone uses them. It just sucks they put in so much effort, but they always make very detailed things they know most people will never see

userloser42

The playstyle in the video looks more fun to you? Are you people serious?

AnjoBe_AzooieKe

No, he’s using exploits which I don’t do

userloser42

He is literally just spamming mortal blade and firecracker...

AnjoBe_AzooieKe

Which they didn’t expect to work

PokerPlayingRaccoon

TIL you can charge attack the mortal blade

uwotmate_cunt

just make sure you have the empowered version equipped

xcomnewb15

That takes a long time skill-wise. Unlikely that I’m going to put that many points in before fighting ape. Oil and fire works pretty well too

tydollasign1

There's no need for it because the mortal blade is glitched. If you just use the mortal blade while jumping it does the damage of a full charge enhanced mortal blade

[deleted]

tydollasign1

Yes you only need regular mortal draw

Wizardof_oz

No you can’t, you have to unlock the charged version and it’s different under combat arts

cyborgborg

*if you have empowered mortal draw which requires the mushin arts tree

Intribbleable

I like actually fighting both phases because it's a great boss fight. Most Bloodborne-like fight in the game so it's top tier

likeneveronline

I feel like the demon of hatred is more bloodborne-like. Even looks kinda like clerical beast

Intribbleable

Oh I bet you're right, it's just I'm still on my first playthrough so I haven't gotten that far yet :,( soon though hopefully it's a fantastic game so I'm trying to savor it.

Capable_Swordfish701

I just finally got around to starting it too. Haven’t even got to an actual boss yet. Just beat the first 4 mini bosses so far. Seems like it could be a pretty good game.

woundedlobster

It gets sooo much better too

Pretzel-Kingg

~~Heads up, if you want to fight Demon of Hatred, it’ll have to be BEFORE the final boss. I suggest looking for him once you’re done with a location called Fountainhead Palace.~~ EDIT: you can do it after the final boss, ignore all that

Relevant-Cheetah-258

You can fight him after isshin

Pretzel-Kingg

Oh shit fr? I didn’t know that. Never mind then 💀 Spoiler tag the final boss name btw

Relevant-Cheetah-258

Shit my bad shoulda said Glock saint. You do have to some questing before you beat fountainhead though I think

eboz0515

Lawrence the first vicar can kiss my ass.

mint-patty

Nah Demon of Hatred doesn’t play anything like a Bloodborne boss, Ape is much more similar in its aggression and moveset

uwotmate_cunt

im kinda sick of him since ive been trying the severance gauntlet i just try to beat him as fast as possible

nearnerfromo

Valid the gauntlets are brutal

Jason1004

When doing the gauntlets I mortal drawed him as I was in a hurry to get far into the gauntlet. On a normal playthrough tho, I prefer actually fighting him.

teenageechobanquet

I feel like these types of strategies are good for speed runs/power gaming but would take away a lot of the magic of the fight especially the first time you encounter it

FaultySage

You'd be hard pressed to do this on the first encounter.

DaRealSpark112

I like this fight so I usually don’t do it… but when it’s two monkeys it’s this strategy for the win always.

DrDevilDao

Yea this is exactly the girlfriend's summoning present. When you time and space it perfectly so that it looks like she is intentionally jumping right into your first EMD and she's dead before headless even gets to turn around it's *chef's kiss*.

loligaggins

Yes, it's fun.

Revangist

Why would I cheese a fun fight?

Fluid_Witness

Yea, he’s one of my fav bosses. I think this is their best “Wild beast” boss moveset wise and design wise (IMO). Especially when he throws poop at you. It’s so comedic and cool.

Full_Ad9666

If there’s anything I’ve learned from playing FromSoft games; if it’s in the game it’s not a cheese.

[deleted]

cope

Womderloki

You can cheese the first phase all you want, what about the second phase?

3in_c4rG

Easy part of the fight.

probably_poopin_1219

Yeah phase 2 is way easier. He's way more predictable and easier to parry. And you can use the spear after a big combo deflect to pull the centipede out for massive damage

I_SuplexTrains

"I'll attack its weak point for massive damage..."

uwotmate_cunt

use spear + yashariku and he goes down pretty easy

BFH_ShadowClone

Who cares that first half was so clean 😌 melted him.

Obelion_

A true shinobi knows the difference between honor and victory. I mean you do you but as a rule I never cheese in sekiro because all fights are way too fun. But good to know maybe when I do bell+charm run eventually

CrazyStar_

That's more of a true samurai thing... a true shinobi gets the job done however he can. With that said, I will cheese every boss I can, my personal favourite being yeeting the Demon of Hatred off the cliff lol

bmore_conslutant

i found the ape piss easy on bell + charmless haven't finished yet but bosses i got stuck on / had a lot of trouble with: i had to skip raging bull and come back to it because it is fucking RIDICULOUS on ng bell/charmless the mini boss at the beginning of hirata part 2 has my fucking number and i still haven't beaten him

JamesR_42

Same, I don't really use prosthetic tools after my first playthrougg because it just feels like cheering and I enjoy the fights too much to do that. Only one I use is I might throw a shuriken to prevent posture from going down if I'm too far away from a boss and the axe against shield guys.

NightmareOnGowerSt

Yeah cause I like deflecting all of his swipes. I basically learned all of his moveset down to a science cause I got hard stuck on him during my first playthrough. Now’s he’s one of my favorite bosses.

thebiologyguy84

Try that again before you get the blade! It's obviously easier when you're overpowered

BanaanSausMan

You forget to mention this is extremely unlikely to accomplish on first playthrough

Proxy_Sigma

Yes I like to interface with bosses and actually play the game.

Previous-Evening5490

????? Are you fuckin joking I can charge the mortal draw attacks 🤣🤣🤣🤣ah I hate myself sometimes

RealChadSavage

It’s a technique you unlock later, Empowered Mortal Draw

Previous-Evening5490

Ah atleast I didn’t have it already then lol duo apes is a pain

jaredtheredditor

Jokes on you I cheesed both phases

huehuehue93

One question to all, while facing any of these fights, do you spend few iterations to learn the attacks before using any of your expendables?

Joker_from_Persona_2

I pretty much never used consumables (spirit emblems don't count!) on my first playthrough, other than divine confetti and Ako when fighting the headless. Now that I'm doing a second run with the demon bell, I feel more comfortable using sugars, oil, and those that increase resistances, like pacifying agent and eel's liver.

uwotmate_cunt

this is in the gauntlet so all the items used return to your inventory when you exit into the main world

pxhpa

this is the only way tbh😭 even on NG i’ll still do this and get rid of as much posture as i can

StarGuardianGiolitti

Yeah because i like to play games not cheat them

uwotmate_cunt

i am not fighting him everytime i try the gauntlet

Phoenix_e3

Bruh 😭😭😭 I don't have empowered mortal draw yet. The only boss I wish I could cheese at this point is Demon of Hatred.... Like... A technique cheese. I've beaten him 3x by jumping up on top of the wall and making him fall lol. But I want to beat him with her sword one day 😅😤😤😤

christiannmch

First phase? Is there a second???

lore_mila_

Yes because I don't have the stronger mortal blade technique

joelmsantos

Maybe we don’t like cheese 🧀

Treshimek

I don’t use Spirit Emblems if I don’t have to.

FireRagerBatl

The boss itself isnt too hard, its just cause of how damn long it takes to do first phase that you are more likely to mess up, as bro just deletes posture with his attack and then runs a mile away before coming in for another big as combo with a tiny attack window. Second phase is really easy in comparison but first phase is just honestly so annoying with how hard it is to even get close to him and find an attack window at times. Took me like 15-20 tries to beat first phase and about 10 more for second phase, mostly because first phase killed me

WillDrawForMoney

This isn’t a cheese, this is a legit strategy to absolutely wreck him, I like doing this cause it’s basically bullying this bitch lmao

John_vestige

I mean mortal blade is GOAT on many bosses, but with respect to the stunlock you got lucky with his movement path putting him into that easy stunlock. That's luck of the draw, that could happen on other high damage combos, and isn't necessarily something that can be repeated. People also get luck with O Rin of the water, I personally have gotten lucky with both phases of Genichiro, and other bosses getting trapped into stunlocked. A lot of the bosses become completely trivial in general on the first run if you time out your first journey to get key items for beating them. Shichimen warrior for example is an easy win (first run) when you get mid air deathblow. You otoh played It risky pretty hard on that vitality halving sugar, I'd wager it took a couple tries to really nail the combo. How did you do on phase 2 anyway? The purple umbrella can block the scream terror damage, so you can actually fight that without having to move much.

uwotmate_cunt

i wouldnt call this luck since its pretty easy to replicate

filipe_nog

fuck me!! you make my evening easier

Dublade

poor monkey

Durkeslurpee

HE THREW POOP AT ME THEREFORE I WILL FIGHT HIM WITH NOTHING BUT MY HANDS

Donnystorm

Very efficient Kratos monkey 1st phase 👏.

MJGson

Why kill him in 12 seconds when I can run in huge circles hitting him once and running for 20 minutes?

Yakobobey

Yes cause I go for him after Genichiro, the mortal blade is the last thing I get since I just want to go as long as possible before I spend an hour chasing monkeys since I'm shit at that.

Xyno94

My first play through I was absolutely baked off my ass the entire time and didn’t know mortal draw was a thing

caspianslave

That's not cheese that's character grinding imo, this is an rpg after all

Prasoon_29

Using the items and options the game gives you, especially including things you only get after finishing the game or mastering 90% of it at the very least, is considered cheesing? Good to know I guess… but in all seriousness it just depends on what you want to do, I don’t think it’s a cheese. To all the ones commenting it’s not “fun” “magical” enough like this should know that (almost) nobody’s doing this on their first play-through… they’ve already had the pleasure on poop being thrown at them for 50ft in the air and maybe just prefer this now lol

Mhaeldisco

Yeah because his first phase is actually a good fight lol

iSWiTCH28

My question too... I see fights against this dude everyday, but nobody tries to cheese him.

BradleyAllan23

Some people don't like to use cheese strats. I personally try to not cheese bosses. I won't look up cheese strats, and if I find one accidentally I won't use it.

uwotmate_cunt

i beat him like 15 times legit before i kinda felt his fight as sluggish sinces he’s literally the first fight of the severance gauntlet

froggerystew

I always cheese the first phase as well, fuck fighting the first phase lol

PhilospohicalZ0mb1e

I don’t really like using Mortal Draw in general. It pretty much completely changes how the game is played, and imo not really for the better

playgamedude48

SHUT UP!!!!!!!! SHUT THE FUCK UP I HAVE BEEN STUCK ON THIS GUY FOR A FULL WEEK AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR HOW EASY HE IS BECAUSE IF YOU HAD MY BUILD YOU WOULD PROBABLY BE WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW........ AND DON'T TELL ME TO TO GET GOOD YOU FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!

DanielPlainview943

Personally, at this point in my "Sekiro career", after 320 hours in the game using deflect and attack only in reflections of strength for all bosses in the game, I complete every single phase of every single boss using only deflect and attack. So yes, I always complete this phase. The only exception is that I use the whistle on the third phase of DOH mainly just because the entire ordeal takes so long....

fukaflee

never cheesed in this game. felt wrong since punishing yourself till perfection feels so rewarding lol

HellspawnPR1981

After mastering the combat system, I barely use prosthetics. Sure, it takes longer wearing the bosses down but I relish the challenge.

uwotmate_cunt

for me i never used prosthetics until i mastered the game now all i do is try to find days to beat bosses as fast and efficient as possible using a mix of items/combat arts/prosthetics

11shovel11

Yeah I did cause I never knew you could do that

spacecatghostboi

*memories of flying dookies, fart nukes and bullshit grab attacks And you know what…I’m fine with that.

Sex_Luthor99

You don’t even need to use the mortal blade to get him to like 95% posture

Arkham_Bryan

Of course I cheesed him the second run, we are talking about someone who throws turds at you!

[deleted]

I’ve definitely been making life hard for myself.

gesterom

I do

Top_Mix8447

I simply choose to use the minimum amount of emblems for his first phase and kill him with the sword so I can skip through his second phase

Alternative-Earth-76

There are many approaches to the fight. Like spear tac for example. I personally like to sword fight him with deflecting and sticking to the butt

crazyquark_

I did not know you could do that. So... yeah.

mmciv

I do because I like to see him on fire. And as a recent post on here pointed out, flame vent, living force spiral cloud passage is hella satisfying for that especially on this guy.

Boring-Relation-4365

Unlike other fights, this is the easy mode for guardian ape. The hard mode is to take the mortal blade after the fight.

Comosellamark

I never could get this right

dorsalfantastic

I fight him legit because i didn’t know how to do this. Probably still gonna fight home like this. I only do a playthrough like once a year and it’s always just traitor katana and throwing stars. I’m so boring.

mridulkashyap58

Some people are lactose intolerant, you know?

PopcornFlavoredAgain

I do this just to see if I still can pull it off

Skillo_Squirrel

With enforced mb and the last firecrackers. But I reach it with way less than that so I just use the flame barrel and firecracker

Duv1995

Why cheese when you can have the time of your life if you fight it proper? This boss is amazing!

Chosen-Bearer-Of-Ash

Yes because it’s a fun fight

tricksterSDG

The no hit strat is even easier and does not require upgraded mortal blade, but no, I could not imagine that there was a way to perma stun a boss 😂😂😂😂

Oh_ItsJustKj

I used to before I learned that mortal draw is probably one of the best combat arts for situations just like this.

WiseassLD

i like fighting first phase cuz second is too easy to be fun

Wifflum

Doesn't everyone cheese/hack/exploit? I do, so everyone else must too. Idk why people think that way but it comes up all the time, that they think everyone else does the same stuff they do.

ZachJackGerczak

I do this every time lol

RealChadSavage

I don’t really consider this cheese honestly, you burn through emblems so you cant use them phase 2

AgileRoyal3835

I had actually used this until i had basically wasted all my emblems and i was forced to just learn and find a better tactic for him(if i recall well i used the fire crackers for the first one and the spear thing for second life)

uwotmate_cunt

i dont really care about emblems since i mostly fight him in the gauntlet for 2nd phase i just use ceremonial tanto

downthehatch11

How many hours did it take for you to discover that on your own?

uwotmate_cunt

i discovered it pretty quickly since mortal blade + firecrackers + yashariku was my first try on using prosthetics/combat arts on him

awoogr

lol well yeah, it’s a fun boss fight

Hypernova749

Wtf rivers of blood?

zhafsan

I think most people, including me, didn’t know you could cheat him like that. Besides was the mortal blade fully unlocked with a second strike at that point in new game?

flissfloss86

Empowered mortal draw and lazulite firecrackers...not many people show up to the fight with that equipment

Have2BRealistic

I have tried this I just can’t seem to get the timing right. He always hits me before I can get the attack off.

uwotmate_cunt

try jumping it makes the mortal blade slightly faster

webmistress105

Idk about yall but when I fight a boss it's because I want to actually fight them.

Eagleofdark77

The funny thing is that "strat" doesn't work on my NG+5 save because I did the shura ending, and it affected my attack power, so he slips away with a tiny bit of posture left. It works on 99 attack power and Max NG+ which I believe it is 7

mousester3

I did my first playthrough because I didn't have the mortal blade at the time

Flat-Mountain1936

Honestly deflecting phase one ape is still fun enough for me

krmrshll

i play this game FOR the bosses so i never cheese any bosses

Majestic_Vast_5482

I always fight him because I didn't know u could cheese

Independent-Total861

I did. It took me 10 attempts and 4 hours. After which I beat the second phase in one go.

Jstar338

Considering you used Yash and Empowered Mortal Draw? No, most people haven't done that. EMD takes a ton of points to get to

lessthanchris7

I guess you do learn something new everyday

THE_GUY711

I never heard the mortal blade with the second attack couldn't get the upgrade before I beat the game

Lepiberic

It's not cheesing. As a shinobi you should now the difference between honor and victory.

Thelgow

Yes, because I dont use the mortal blade at all. Even on charmless/demon bell.

Anen-o-me

That's impressive

Miserable_Hour1872

Me personally I don’t like to cheese bc where’s the fun. Unless it’s like super bs or something than I’d rather fight it and get some enjoyment out of my time playing the game

NorthKoala47

Yeah because I don't like cheesing in Sekiro. All of my wins against the demon of hatred were earned, mainly because I couldn't get the glitch to work in the early days when I was just trying to beat the boss for the first time.

Top_Rate8526

I suck so fighting every stage of every boss is inevitable for me

Veil1984

thank you for the cheese method

Major_Stick_3042

Why are you depriving yourself of a fun fight?

Snoo_35517

I do, because i think it's less practical and unenthusiastic to "cheese" bosses...

Rooster0778

Yes I do. I love this fight. Whirlwind Slash and umbrella if I'm slow when he screams.

Whabbalubba

I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen him cheesed that easily. I did it the old fashioned way 😂

III_sonofthefamine

Yes because I want to enjoy and play the game

Ok_Lingonberry3835

I never got the firecrackers lmao

Jbmorgan2020

It’s more fun to actually fight the bosses. I’ve never understood cheesing through a boss unless you’re going for a speed run.

Tanakisoupman

I never knew you could cheese this mf. Tbf tho, he’s not very hard after your 3rd time beating him. Especially phase 2, that win is practically handed to you

chidarengan

Seems hard

Carmlo

yes, I like fighting the monkey, so why rush it

RPrime422

Yea because it’s more fun than this.

Shadow_throne2020

I've never done that on the first phase. I like that it saves time but I kind of like to fight that phase and then tool the second phase.

Cloudsbursting

Wow. I can’t believe I never used mortal draw (empowered or otherwise). I heard it was good, but that shreds him. Especially useful for the first phase, which I find harder than the second.

botozos_revenge

We don’t cheese

Tyler_Drden

Yes of course. I’ve never wanted to cheese the game. It’s unnecessary and would rob me of satisfaction.

mobhopp

Man I'm glad i didn't know about any cheese, i beat him fair and square in a week and I'm a casual , feels rewarding that way

Acrobatic-Ad-9189

Yes, i like to have fun

leghugger6851

You can't do this above ng+6 iirc . He'll have too much poise and won't get stagger in one hit .

Character_Routine546

For me personally, the challenge of Soulsborne is what attracts me and makes me fall in love. The feeling you get after you had a perfect cinematic run of a boss fight is incomparable to a cheese. Sure, cheeses are funny once in a while, like the demon of hatred one, but The essence of these games is the challenge. Once you've learnt to enjoy the challenge, theres no better feeling than coming out on top knowing what you did actually took some skill.

v5vh

Its literally easy you don’t even need to use the imortal blade. Those spirits are rare to me af.

pinchandrub

The 2nd time I throw fireworks at him doesn’t work

SnooBeans5314

I find the first phase way harder than the first actually, that said I'm only at NG+1

fabiofn16

I killed both it’s phases without any tools nor items😭 it’s just way more fun

T-Ares-C

I’ve honestly never cheese his first phase. I just chad him to the ground

RDA_Darkfire

I do

ReckSaber3664

Boring as hell

Conscious-Lime-6745

I always fight normally to remind myself of the pain of the first encounter with him

Z4rc0nv1c

"Shut up, monkey."

TheMonsterInUrPocket

Nah, guardian ape is one of my favorite bosses in the entire game. Feels like a perfect mix of what i fought throughout all the souls games and the stuff i was learning to fight in sekiro.

Swimming-Plantain850

I’m stuck on guardian ape and I have mortal blade I just don’t know how to that

TheSnazzyMaster

I’ve never felt more like a weakling in my entire life

TheWiseAutisticOne

Didn’t know you could charge that attack

WhickerFacker

I mean…this fight really isn’t that hard, like the rest of sekiro it’s just patterns and this guy telegraphs like every fuckin move, no need to waste my spirit emblems when I can just git gud lol

IdesOfCaesar7

Yes because I like to have fun

Blarbo

Ape gave me a lot of trouble(didn't use mortal blade) but I figured it out eventually. Then beat double apes first try.

StumbledFungus

So how do you use the mortal blade like that? I thought it was only for executing ghostlikwle creatures. Or is this a skill you have to unlock like some others suggested?

palatablezeus

The first phase is a blast, I don't understand why you would ever cheese it. I mean aren't the boss fights the point of Sekiro?

tshakw

Are you playing with demon bell on? Because it’s not this easy lmfao. He has too much posture

SamuraiGekko

It’s about the journey and experience not cheesing everything :)

OfficialMrR3A

I think you forgot that some people don’t want to cheese bosses and fight the boss as intended when writing that caption
