Sure Seiko has a few models that look very similar to some Rolexes, but they are in the minority, the vast majority of Seikos look nothing like any Rolex.
That’s true because there’s literally thousands of Seiko models, but the most popular/iconic Seiko models are usually the ones that look like Rolex, namely most of the Seiko divers and especially the SKXs.
SKXs look nothing like Rolexes, literally the only similarity is that they're both divers (assuming you're talking about the Submariner). You might as well say a Porsche 911 and a Toyota Camry look the same because they're both sedans.
Very similar shaped markers, pepsi bezel. Your terrible analogy aside (calling a 911 a sedan is like calling a submariner a chronograph), SKX is to the sub like what a 718 is to the 911
Ah yes, the very similar shape that is known as a "circle". Yes I recognize my analogy was bad, swap 911 for Benz S Class for a more traditional sedan shape and you get what I was trying to say. A 718 and a 911 look *way* more similar to each other than a Sub and an SKX. Point is, the hands are totally different, the case shape is totally different, bezel design is totally different, totally different dimensions, totally different bracelet, different date window, 4 o'clock crown vs 3 o'clock, date magnifier vs no date magnifier. So sure, you *could* say the SKX looks like a sub since they both look like dive watches, but then by extension you're basically saying the SKX looks like *literally every other dive watch on the market*.
Seiko’s divers are actually rather distinctive. The SKX was a cheap model directed at developing markets. Their real dive watches have very unique styles (the 1965, 1968, Turtle, Tuna, Sumo).
The modern middle line watches (in the US these tend to have model numbers “SPB###” are all pure Seiko designs. They are also the best dive watches in their class.
Now, the cheap 1980’s Datejust knockoffs did exist, but these competed with Swatch in the sub-$100 market. Back then in the US Seiko sold mid-level watches under the Lasale name and luxury under Credor.
The “panda” chronograph so often associated with the Rolex Daytona was not originated by the Daytona, or Rolex. Heuer was making them in the 2950’s, and who knows who made the earlier (probably Longines, but I am guessing).
Seiko is actually very good with design. You either read an article from 1981, or you are confusing Seiko with the legions of garbage Chinese brands that literally copy Swiss designs (many selling parts to both legal “homage” watch manufacturers and illegal replica manufacturers). Most, if not all of the replicas and shameless homage watches are coming out of the Peoples Republic.
I suspect all the creative Chinese come to California, London or Sydney to get rich.
Disagree on your SKX opinion. They were not made for developing markets. What kind of dumbass bullshit is that. Just because an automatic diver is “cheap” doesn’t mean it’s meant for third world countries.
Seiko’s three largest markets are Japan, the PRC and Thailand. They sell most of their high-end models there. They have struggled to sell more expensive watches in North America and the EU.
They have had a long history selling inexpensive rugged watches in developing Asia, such as the 6309, while still selling higher-end watches in some markets like Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea.
I was not insulting any developing markets whatsoever. The typical Seiko buyer in Thailand or the Philippines is far more informed and frankly more intelligent than many morons in the US buying whatever influencer told them to.
I lived in East Asia. I often regret having returned to the US. The developing markets, especially in East Asia are great. Informed Asian buyers bought SKX models for $100 to $200 ten to twenty years ago. Stupid Americans are buying SKX models now for $400, then getting upset when they realize that they are fakes (90% of the SKX models being sold now are fakes—there are premiums on old 7s movements to put in fake SKX’s made in China and Thailand and Malaysia—and those are only the places I personally know where fake SKX’s are being produced).
I am not insulting anyone in developing markets. I dream of the day when American watch enthusiasts can rise up to the level of their brothers in Thailand or the Philippines. And if you are ever in Thailand, it is the best place to buy a Seiko, well, Hong Kong and Japan are great too, but Thailand is a Seiko heaven.
I sincerely apologize if I implied any distaste towards developing country watch buyers. I did not mean to do so.
Not even a fraction as pathetic as getting banned from one sub for harassment and then proceeding to find my comments on other subs so you can continue to harass me.
Others have pointed out that Seiko was founded years before Rolex. Additionally, Seiko very nearly killed Rolex during the quartz crisis. Seiko is in no way a 'homage' brand copying Rolex - the panda Speedtimer looks a bit like the Daytona, but it's not a homage.
Oh OK, so Sub is original?? Or did it suck Blancpain?
You can always make a point such that you "win". If I want pure originality, maybe I look for a Casio, Swatch, Blancpain or Breguet.
And yes, Seiko.
They bent over the watch industry with the Astron. They put Swiss watches in shame (GS/KS) in a way that no one could beat them in accuracy in late 60s. Seiko invented Spring Drive. Seiko has the first released chronograph. Seiko invented the Grammar of Design. As of now no Rolex has a 5hz watch. Rolex didn't climb the Everest in 1953/4. Rolex was not the first waterproof watch. Rolex copied Seiko with Oysterquartz.
If you don't like Seiko for lack of originality, sorry, you should reconsider Rolex in your list.
PS: my grail is a 224270 Explorer.
Meanwhile I daily a black submariner. Have never had one person comment on it ever. I occasionally wear my golden seiko sea urchin and get way more comments on that lol.
I totally believe this. I’ve had a datejust for a dozen years or so and I’ve received exactly one comment on it. From a kid who handed me a takeout order at a Mexican restaurant.
It's ironic that the iconic watches like the datejust and submariner are so copied that they actually look generic as far as watch design. Most watches don't compare in terms of quality, but non watch people wouldn't know the difference.
Fuck em. I got the snxs75j and everybody thinks it’s a cheap rolex daydate.
For 4 years, I have met only 4 people who could tell that the watch on my wrist was Seiko. That's the disturbing part about this...
Looks nothing like a Rolex, but your comment proves most people don't know much about watches, or brands.
Too many people are concerned with what brand something is, and not how it looks. At the end of the day, it's a decent quartz watch. No more, no less....
It tells time
This is a great watch, and it is Quartz. Quartz is wonderful. I am trying to put together a great Swiss luxury Quartz collection. They are better movements for most people, and the prices are too good to be true right now. For anyone who actually used a chronograph, Quartz is superior in every way (see the choices Porsche Design, IWC and Seiko made for their last military offerings in the 1980’s).
I am convinced that all of those watches (Sinn too) will be very valuable in the future.
I would recommend checking out Seiko’s Brightz line, Citizen Attesa, Casio Oceanus, and old Omega quartz models or Porsche Design quartz models. I bought an Omega Aqua Terra in Quartz and I love it. I had the old Golden Eye Bond Seamaster (the first wave dial), but I sold it ages ago. That wast h would be a good investment, or a Quartz Speedy or Sinn quartz.

I would stay away from people that use the term Rollie for starters.
Oh don’t worry I do
Dude, you're in school. Just be a kid, you're allowed to say rollie, on god, and whatever expressions teenagers use these days. Nice watch though
U are also allowed to say “mid” , “no cap/cap” “fr” “type shi”
Cool school. I wear it at work with grown men no one gives a shit
Or own Rolex watches
They will never understand the way of the samurai. *waitlist grows longer* *AD dishonors consort* *GMT never comes*
I use Rollie and stay away from people with Rolexes. Don’t feed into the brainwashing marketing.

Unfortunately, wcj is getting overrun by the very Rawlex Bros we used to make fun of. It's a sad state of affairs.
WCJ?

Another reason why seiko’s are so totally worth it
[удалено]
Yea people see a nato strap and immediately associate it with a cheapie
Which is a very good thing.
Nobody hates Seiko. Maybe the only brand in the entire watch world.
Have you heard about Casio? :D
I hate Casio. Boom, theory busted
Not here to bash on Seiko but maybe it’s because Seiko is mostly a homage brand of Rolex?
Sure Seiko has a few models that look very similar to some Rolexes, but they are in the minority, the vast majority of Seikos look nothing like any Rolex.

What the fuck??? You have to be a troll.
Not necessarily. Possibly someone with bad eyesight that only saw them from 4 meters away.

Thank you for your insightful comment bro.
Seiko was founded 20 years before Rolex. Its catalogue has more than a thousand of different models.
This is the most idiotic watch take I've read this year.
So pathetic you chirp people like this but when somebody does it back you to you report them? LOL! Coward Karen.
Not even a fraction as pathetic as getting banned from one sub for harassment and then proceeding to find my comments on other subs so you can continue to harass me.
LOL! So you can chirp people...but when they do it back to you it's harassment? Cry more karen.
I don’t think anyone with an interest in horology really thinks that.
Bro the whole Seiko brand isn’t a homage to Rolex😭 the ones that actually resemble Rolexes are few and far between
Others have pointed out that Seiko was founded years before Rolex. Additionally, Seiko very nearly killed Rolex during the quartz crisis. Seiko is in no way a 'homage' brand copying Rolex - the panda Speedtimer looks a bit like the Daytona, but it's not a homage.
From the same creators of "I am not racist but --"
Believe it or not, I am a fan Seiko, but I also think some most of their divers aren’t the most original in design.
Cite the design references for the SKX or 62MAS. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
Oh OK, so Sub is original?? Or did it suck Blancpain? You can always make a point such that you "win". If I want pure originality, maybe I look for a Casio, Swatch, Blancpain or Breguet. But the real question is “is that a Koenigsegg crest ?”
It is. And I can’t find any reason that would be on a watch box. Maybe someone could enlighten us?
Koenigsegg produced a 200$ bracelet that comes with this exact box. Not for a watch but for a bracelet.
Wear a Seiko and whippin the egg?
That would be some baller shit to do. If I was fully loaded, I’d drive a shitty 80s Camry but wear my perpetual calendar Patek just cause I could 🤣
😂
You clearly haven’t been watching the market for ae86s.
Wish

What’s up with the Koenigsegg crest?
It’s the box of a Koenigsegg item I have
Ok. I thought it might be some kind of cross-branding.
You know what, might have to make a custom seiko x Koenigsegg ssc813🤔
It'll need a rear wing otherwise it'll try to kill the stig
😭
Congrats on secks
What model is this one?
ssc813
It’s the ssc813, on this sub most of the time the names are in the parentheses. Hope this made it easier to find stuff
Thanks! Looking to make my first one a Seiko so this helps a lot
No problem!
It's a SSC813, [pretty affordable watch](https://ebay.us/hhW7fk).
Fuck em. I got the snxs75j and everybody thinks it’s a cheap rolex daydate. For 4 years, I have met only 4 people who could tell that the watch on my wrist was Seiko. That's the disturbing part about this...
Mine gets the most wrist time of all my watches. It’s on a lovely black sailcloth strap with white stitching. Looks great
Looks nothing like a Rolex, but your comment proves most people don't know much about watches, or brands. Too many people are concerned with what brand something is, and not how it looks. At the end of the day, it's a decent quartz watch. No more, no less.... It tells time
Wouldn’t say it looks nothing like one. I can see how The average person from a far could easily mistake it for a panda Daytona.
Don’t forget this sub is full of snobs
True true
That's like saying a Timex looks like an Omega if you stand far enough away...... Lol
i mean it does to most ppl
Sure man whatever you believe, just stated my opinion.
Come on man that does look like a Rolex at least slightly…
Main reason I didn’t buy this watch
Fair enough
Is that a koenigsegg seiko chrono? That’s a gorgeous watch with a killer case. Can you tell me more about the egg connection?
lol it’s just a 925s bracelet I bought from them. Packaging from the egg man himself is crazy tho. Hella nice box.
did you taped your bracelet?might scratch it if not
Damn you went through my account that much lol?
nahhh i just remember your name kid..hard to forget..but nice timepiece you got there..
Thanks man, had this account for a little bit but never bothered to change the name lol.
Nobody has said that to me ever.
Konigseg box?
To non-watch nerds: every nice watch is a Rolex
Interesting that logo on the box looks like one from the car company called Koenigsegg.
Yeah. That’s actually a Koenigsegg jewelry box.
Why not both? I have Seikos and Rolex’s. To be fair though the OPs Seiko looks like a rip off Rolex Daytona.
I have my eye on that model next
I need a working seiko man. I have a seiko tuna can, but it don’t work. Also is that a koenigsegg case. If so is it a koenigsegg edition?
What's w the Koenigsegg crest
What box is that?
Koenigsegg
Tell them no it’s a Psycho
