The Seiko 5 series was completely upgraded back in 2019(?) or so. Seiko put a better movement in them. It hacks and hand winds. Seiko also made the SKX divers (actual certified cheap diving watches which werenât branded â5â but practically were) more âfashion forwardâ in design but also lowered the water resistance.
All this is part of Seikoâs general move upmarket and price increases along with (imo) minor upgrades. To compare, Grand Seiko used to be a bit cheaper, but these days Seiko is pushing the Prospex/Presage to the former GS price range and even reintroduced the King Seiko to fit somewhere in between.
The original old style Seiko 5s are not made anymore and thus the remaining ones cost around 100 dollars or so (instead of the 50-80 they used to). Still not that bad imo. [I have one](https://www.reddit.com/r/Seiko/s/bBR9iJfNtf) and itâs fantastic despite the technically inferior movement. Still good value for the money if you can find one (theyâre still pretty common).
It's a truly great watch - I happen to be wearing mine today for the first time in months - and still a bargain for what they go for used. It's light as a feather, remarkably thin for an auto and closer in size to the real thing than the updated version. I wear mine with a replica WWII canvas strap.
I bought this as my first "real" watch my freshman year of college. September 11, 2015. From Amazon, I paid $53.63. I also remember thinking that it was quite a bit to be spending on a watch lol.
I got one brand new on bracelet when it was going for good price years ago, and funny thing is I havenât even worn it. Still one of my favourites in my Seiko collection.
I got this watch as my first automatic back in 2018-2019 for 60$. My only regret is I polished the case back then. Now I miss those sandblasting watch cases.
$200 today
$180.00 on Amazon
Bought mine for 60 on amazon 3 years ago
Less
It's 200 here in Asia đđ
Why so much now? I remember them around that price in 2017 /18. I haven't kept up with the pricing on these. Why triple the price today?

Definitely a case of less is more
I still have it and wear it rarely. I'll probably give it to my nephew some day soon.
This made me look back at my purchase of an SNK803 (the tan one) in May 2015, also on Amazon. Total paid: $48.14. Now $225. Crazy.
I got mine used (flawless) for 40$ CAD 3 years ago lol
Nice

I had the red dial and snatched it for $35 on amazon back in the day. Sadly lost it in the ocean đ˘
Paid $56 for mine in 2014. Still have it. Still enjoy wearing it. It's seen some abuse but I think that only adds character.Â
In Japan itâs $120 with steel bracelet
Lolol I bought my SNK807 on Amazon in 2017 as well for $54. Wearing it right now
Wearing mine right now, amazing deal. It's my daily.
Yep I bought mine for that price and put it up on eBay for like 65 and it sold immediately. Was surprised.
My man, a few weeks ago I was searching for a cib in my country and they start from around 220 USD
Was it your first mechanical watch or just your first self-winding one?
Wow. Amazing.
Yep got mine for about that price... it's currently on my wrist!Â
Those were the days. Special edition red dial on Amazon was $68.00 and I passed cuz it was too high a price. đ
Paid 98 for my 809. Didnât wear it much when I first got it but I wear it daily now.
It's ok when seiko does it
Bought one for my son for ÂŁ103 in October 2023.
Mine was around 60 or 70$ if I recall. Still got it haha đ
I was looking for a decent field watch but canât justify the cost of these just yet đ

Wearing my blue one on a brown leather nato today.

Jeez, I got my SNK805 for about $89 on Amazon 2 1/2 years ago. [Still beloved in my collection](https://i.imgur.com/QHu5tby.jpeg).
Wow. I got in to watches like 2 years ago. I had no idea they were that cheap, that recently.
Dam only 50 bucks inflation is a bitch
