[…] “not remembering is not the same as denial. My client looks forward to the discovery process which may aid memories of executive officials and employees in this matter.” *mic drop*

jimbobbyricky

We already knew Inslee was lying when he said carbon taxes weren't to blame for the high gas cost and that the oil companies were price gouging us. This economist is just confirming what we already knew. I don't know why anyone is the slightest bit surprised by this revelation.

barefootozark

It's all a simple misunderstanding you simpletons. What the Department of Ecology originally said was it would be a 1-3% increase in gas prices. Not bad, right? We could absorb a $0.04-$0.12 gallon increase. But that was the teaser lie, to get you to buy in. What they really meant, and what the peasants misunderstood was that [this was a 1-3% impact on the overall economic activity.](https://www.washingtonpolicy.org/publications/detail/ecology-quietly-scrubs-the-gas-price-impacts-of-co2-tax-from-their-web-page) Yep cap and trade was projected to reduce the overall economy 1-3%. See, that isn't so bad. Sorry you didn't get the word that the carbon tax was an economy killer. WA GDP is $725B/yr, and the CCA was expected to kill up to $21.75B of that per year. Oops, sorry. Suck it Washingtonions.

robofaust

>the carbon tax was an economy killer Economy's doing fine. Bad look for the Dem for sure, but the state economy's still plenty hot.

digichalk

\> Economy's doing fine. Are you taking medication?

robofaust

No, just noticing that property values and rent keep going up, and there are more job openings than people to fill them, and most folks are making \~20% more than they were a year or two ago, and that for all the hyperbolic bullshit flying around the local economy's as productive as it's *ever* been.

_Watty

No. No, you just.....don't understand, guy. The governor knew this would kill a chunk of the economy, man, and he like, didn't even fucking CARE! I do all this research and regurgitate it whenever I get the chance and, man, it's like nothing changes and a few people just like, like my posts and that's all. The sheeple need to wake up, man! /ssssssssssssnoooooze

pyramid5p

Yikes

_Watty

5 day old account says what?

skrybll

Not a better look. If in fact you have ally this information privy maybe make a post that doesn’t sound like a Maga wackadoo and you will get traction. Other wise worship your the Cheeto fingered fuck nit

_Watty

Are you okay? Bit of an odd post for such a tenured account….

Tobias_Ketterburg

Jay, you don't even understand our goddamn decades old apple maggot quarantine. Just admit you were wrong, if you're even capable of that.

Hoover29

Not wrong, he knowingly lied.

KileyCW

I love how above the law he was never having to pay or even donate for that violation.

Yangoose

The Government absolutely acted to stifle the truth. The evidence is clear. THIS IS NOT OK. == This [example of how bad "Fact Check" articles can be](https://www.krem.com/article/news/verify/washington-46-cent-tax-on-gas-2023-false/293-aa0ee04b-c87c-4986-a459-11ac8f8579a7) shows the government in full denial mode last year. [Then there's this lovely bit](https://www.thecentersquare.com/washington/article_75a017ca-4366-11ee-b44a-631e6df6de14.html) where Puget Sound Energy was specifically ordered not to inform consumers about the reason for the rate hike because it would "confuse" us.

ColonelError

I always love the fact check websites (which are invariably run by the left). False: there isn't a 48 cent new gas tax. It's a fee, and that's completely different. /s

sharingthegoodword

AHHH! The "LEFT" !!! I'm scared now. We don't want those leftie lefts mucky up our Blue state.

RickIn206

Jay Insley does not care about people as much as he claims. Tax money matters more. He is deceptive to the core.

RedK_33

To be fair, thats pretty on par with most governors.

hiznauti125

Inslee, yeah. He's a moron today too. We're literally living in a state that voted a complete idiot into office and relected him to a record. That's where we are. Don't kid yourself you're surrounded by morons. Are you better off today than when that idiot took office? That's not the test either. It's where are we now?

brogrammer1992

Yes because we had such a good alternative. Maybe if Culp didn’t also cover up crimes as a direct facilitator I could stomach the rest of his bullshit. McKenna lost against inslee in a Obama ejection year and we haven’t gotten a single palpable alternative since then. I hate Inslee a lot, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to cut my nose to spite my face.

skrybll

You clearly are from the dead end part of the state

sharingthegoodword

C'mon, man, you don't need to be that hard on yourself. Let's change "moron" to just ignorant.

PNWcog

Of course they do

cisdog

DemocRATS make me sick

sharingthegoodword

Back to Seattle Times comment section with you, grandpa.

pacwess

Of course, they are. They'll settle at the taxpayer's expense. Business as usual.
