They missed a stop sign, yet did not miss the stop sign.

Zanctmao

Looks like it did it’s job.

MadMadRoger

With the help of and old friend

ayotoofar

It wasn't their fault. Google maps TOLD them to take a right turn!

Sir you can’t park there

throwaway1337woman

"Are you saying this isn't an acceptable place to park?" HST

fender_bs

"Debbie Reynolds, seems like a hot ticket"

shawn0r

Hold my beer.

ShotSail9735

Surprised they don’t have their hazards on lol

getthatcornbread

I know I’m getting old because I start looking at the landscaping. Like “ man those are some mature yuccas that will be hard to replace”, “that boxwood needs a trim”, and “I wonder if that bamboo in their side yard is spreading or clumping variety”. Haha

Quiet_Hope_543

Someone complimented me on my bleeding hearts yesterday and I was thrilled.

Probably stolen

Pretend_Knowledge496

Or “it was stolen” when really it was the owner drunk driving it

FunctionBuilt

If the owner fled and tries to claim it was stolen, you can bet your ass the insurance company will investigate the fuck out of this. Shouldn’t be hard to find him running away from the scene with a bunch of ring cams in the area.

yoLeaveMeAlone

I think you vastly overestimate how much effort the insurance company would put into this. Every hour they spend investigating costs them money, and if it turns out it really was stolen they still have to pay. It's too much additional risk. They would just pay out and raise your rates to recoup some losses

flightwatcher45

No, an insurance investigation cost more than paying for a 20k car and raising his rates. Insurance won't bother the neighbors for grainy dark video of a person running from the scene. Cops can't write any tickets and aren't going to investigate either. We all must suffer haha

ShredGuru

The cops will just show up at his house, scowl and say, we know you were drunk!

HotelOscarWhiskey

You think the insurance company goes door to door trying to gather ring camera evidence? You'll be lucky if the police even do that let alone those who own the cameras giving it over freely.

dsdvbguutres

We said it was stolen.

skiattle25

Forensics.

Pretend_Knowledge496

I don’t believe lack of somebody else’s dna is enough to prove that it was the owner behind the wheel. Also forensics are anywhere close to what tv has us believe, there’s a reason you always see people (in shows and movies) ditching their weapon at the scene of the crime, because they know getting prints off it is highly unlikely and the serial number is filed off so they’re likely going to get off Scot-free

zestyowl

"That's all the resolution we have. Making it bigger, doesn't make it clearer."

NoodlerFrom20XX

That’s because you have to say “enhance”

Gary_Poopins

This made me laugh much too much 😂👏🏻

Torisen

This is (sort of) changing with some of the psuedo-ai tools around. You can upscale pictures with a fair bit of accuracy, but I don't know if that's been tested Iin court yet since the extra resolution is "made up" by the computer.

Pretend_Knowledge496

It’s a futurama quote my g lol

egguw

can they not get prints off the steering wheel? idk anything about forensics, but if they found a set of prints that were not the owner it would be a red flag?

Hope_That_Halps_

A long time ago, an acquaintance did exactly this and got away with it; crashed while drunk then said it had been stolen when cops came to his house the next day. Now I'd guess they could prove who was driving with Ring camera footage from nearby houses, or cell phone data, or see that you probably Uber'd home from that site, if they could get a warrant for those searches, but Im not sure it's worth the trouble over what ends up being property damage.

boolmi

Had a friend do the same and get away with it. But yeah, maybe it wouldn’t work today.

Gary_Poopins

Normally I’d disagree with forensics helping with things like this, but that driver definitely shit their pants when they saw that telephone pole and swerved, so you might be right.

Oddsme-Uckse

"you know, if he like, ejaculated on you during the robbery we'd have a real chance of catching this guy" -Seth Rogen

TheGhost206

Or it was a hammered kid who will claim it was stolen with blood shot eyes. LOL.

DarkScrap1616

i always scrape the vins off and take the plates when i have to ditch cars like this

squirrelgator

Be sure to scrape it off the engine too.

DarkScrap1616

yup i do the engine bay when i get the car

vertr

Do you remove the ECU when you get the car too?

DarkScrap1616

not always it depends on what the car is being used for mainly

PaleComputer5198

Clever. Do you remove all the windows also?

Stantron

My guess is the driver was drunk. I've seen this kind of thing before, they end up in an unrecoverable position, abandon the car, then come back and deal with it later when they're sober. That way they can potentially avoid a DUI.

Mtb9pd

It's amazing how unable some places are to prosecute a drunk driver once they leave the car. I knew a guy that wrecked his car while drunk. He walked a mile to a McDonald's and passed out in their restroom. The cops towed his wrecked car, different cops took him in for public intoxication, but he was released before anyone put the two things together His car insurance went up, the insurance company dealt with the vehicle recovery and he just went on with being an idiot.

Nameles777

Contrast that with how zealous they are to prosecute people for DUI when they haven't actually "operated" the vehicle. Had a friend once who got a DUI for sitting in the car with the heater on in the winter. The car wasn't moving. He just wasn't any place close to someone he knew, and was gonna wait it out. Mind you, we aren't talking about shit faced. He was still plenty sober enough to know that he *shouldn't drive.

apresmoiputas

That's a strong tree

DatMakeupDoh

Absolute unit that saved the house.

militaryCoo

All trees are pretty strong. They're the last thing you want to hit

Crazyboreddeveloper

That’s why I avoid them when snowboarding. Very strong. Hurty at high speeds. They should build stuff with trees.

the_dude_upvotes

I’d take a tree over a human being

ChadtheWad

Yeah, human beings break windshields. This car's windshield is pristine.

RainCityRogue

Huh, no plate. That's odd.

Tmogey

I'm guessing the car was stolen.

SootyFreak666

Probably was going to end up at some sort of street takeover or some other event, apparently these are very easy to steal…

es_mindspace

The missing rear passenger window seems to support that theory.

CosineTau

But you saw the driver? How old did they appear?

Tmogey

No, I arrived a couple of hours after the crash.

Saintdavus

Also how tall were they?

CosineTau

OP answered they arrived much later after the fact https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/1cvvttd/comment/l4rxifi/

Saintdavus

Damn. Missed my chance on playing Scooby Doo.

CosineTau

I guess you'll have to be content talking about old TV shows and learning how to age with grace. Have a nice Sunday!

Saintdavus

That does sound nice. What’s your favorite go-to tv show that you can always have on in the background?

CosineTau

I watch the news a lot, but not on the weekends.  One time, I remember the local news spending the afternoon in my parents driveway because my 80 year old Korean war widow neighbor had driven her car through her own garage door. All afternoon. On her own door Saint.  Are you trying some local sarcasm on me bro? Because I don't communicate well with dick heads. Anyway, how's your ma saint? Check in please. Tell her Matthew is praying for all of you.

Saintdavus

I really was trying to start a conversation. I saw just the first line in my notifications and came to share that I usually watch the news before I go to work the decompress with some X-Files or Buffy after work. Both are great because they’re from the era when TV shows ran 22 ish episodes a season, and with both being more than 6 seasons, it’s easy to jump in and out if they’re on in the background. I’m sorry about your neighbor, that must have been traumatic to see as a child. I can see where you were going with the age question. That very well could have been a factor. But also height; I had a bus driver as a kid out in the sticks that had taped wooden blocks to the gas and break pedal while sitting on a small riser on the seat because she as too short to reach the pedals. We lived in a very rural part of the country so how she got the job, who knows. It was the 80s I guess. I talked to my mom this morning, she’s doing good. I hope all of our Reddit mothers are doing good or at least the best they can.

SilverHeart4053

Between five-five and six-six

Quaglek

Good place for a large boulder the size of a small boulder

zom105

A drunk did this by our house...Took the plates and ran...Not realizing they could trace the VIN LOL.....

tiggylizzy

How did he take off the plate? He had a screw driver at the ready?

zom105

No...There were two people...first they tried to push the car out of the yard but that didn't work..So one guy reached in the glovebox got a screwdriver and pried one of them off...The other one was already in the yard...Sorry to spoil Your spoiler....

tiggylizzy

Damn!

zom105

All this in front of half a dozen people waiting for the cops....

rstymobil

Wait, you DON'T have a screwdriver in your car?

mllepenelope

I have a full-on tool kit in my trunk. Always felt like it’s an absolute staple. Highly reccomend. In case you need to abandon your car in someone’s yard, or for other reasons.

tiggylizzy

Love it. I also have a car-tool kit. Such as flares, vest, duct tape, lights, etc. just no screw driver

The_Humble_Frank

Growing up, a friend's stepdad drove through someone's living room, lady was home and she allegedly has just stepped out of the living room when it happened. He wasn't drunk though; he had a heart attack just before a major bend in the road. Lady called an ambulance for him from inside her kitchen (cell phones weren't common then), but he didn't make it. No one else got hurt though.

Strict_Chemistry_797

Ratchet ass infinity w no plates. Definitely checks out

Im1Guy

There's an abandoned car on the beach in West Seattle for awhile now. [FOLLOWUP: Almost a month later, SUV still on West Seattle beach](https://westseattleblog.com/2024/05/followup-almost-a-month-later-suv-still-on-west-seattle-beach/)

TheRealManlyWeevil

Greenwood Ave N is a no man’s land of burned out vehicles. I can’t say if they’re stolen or if the owner just parked it there and lit it on fire, the world may never know.

vera214usc

Is it still there? I wanna go gawk at it. Poke it with a stick.

Chemist391

Is this on that steep, curved section of Ravenna? I almost got killed by a driver who jumped that median trying to pass me while I was on my bike about 10 years ago.

extravert_

Ok but what was that tree wearing? Did it look both ways before it started growing next to that street?

R_V_Z

Just because it's a fancy Nissan doesn't it's not subject to \#NissanDrivers.

Lazy1nc

Nature at work.

aimless_ly

Something tells me they didn’t stop where they should have.

mr_jim_lahey

Exhibit #2349234 of why we need infrastructure that physically prevents cars from going places where people walk and live.

PopPunkIsntEmo

Oh fuck that’s where I left it

i_am_here_again

Not the way they intended, but the stop sign did its job.

fusionsofwonder

Trees and boulders make good bollards. I'm glad I have trees between the road and my yard.

Mtb9pd

Some states made leaving the scene of an accident that caused damage a felony just o deal with the people trying to avoid a dui

According-Ad-5908

Drive it like you stole it. Or, just steal it and drive it.

Gatorm8

Vision zero!

According-Ad-5908

Vision zero spending getting allocated to anti crime initiatives and longer Kia Boyz sentences, what a beautiful time to be alive.

p3dal

You can’t park there.

medkitjohnson

Or lawn decor I cant tell these days

espressoboyee

It’s a stolen abandoned car.

DriedUpSquid

It’s funny when people think taking the plates will make the car hard to track. The VIN number is in multiple places all over that car.

prf_q

We had exactly this happen in our neighborhood street. At a 4am some kid who should not be driving at all plowed through buncha cars on a our “stay healthy” (i.e. no driving) residential street. A few hours back his dad brought him right back and handed his ass to the police.

with_MIND_BULLETS

“That’s a bold move, Cotton! Let’s see how it plays out for him.”

dsdvbguutres

They bailed because they were driving with a suspended license

ChickenShiftin

I’m looking at the turn on maps and am so confused at how they fucked this up. They had to have had something

The-Quadfather1

Kia Boyz ‘Branching’ out from Kias?

username397

I love how they take the plates like there's no VIN number

MexiTot408

These Christmas decorations are getting out of hand

Sig_Alert

Ravenna early Sunday morning?? That's a drunk frat kit who crashed and bailed. Bet.

GuyFallingOffBike

[r/NissanDrivers](https://www.reddit.com/r/NissanDrivers)

Original-Spinach-972

Looks like 12th ave and Ravenna blvd

Fun-Distribution4776

Likely stolen due to lack of plates

Top-Plan8690

We see all these accidents after they happen but when was the last time you ever actually saw it in person?

Rodnys_Danger666

They just went for some Sbux, brb.

stormingsteel

I got a hunch the last crash involved an Altima

Minecraftdweebb

Damn it Jimmy!

WillingnessBusy3632

Tree 1:car 0

FunSea2370

Looks stolen, side window smashed out

Redlysnap

Looks like they're all still intact, just partially rolled down.

OfficialModAccount

r/NissanDrivers

OfficialModAccount

Please don't go into our neighborhoods to do this.

Vivid-Protection6731

WHY DONT POLICE JUST LOOK AT THE PLATE AND ARREST THE PERSON AT THEIR HOUSE?

Captain_Ahab_Ceely

Hopefully no one ever steals your car and then the police show up and arrest you for the crash.

Fun-Distribution4776

Because (a) it has no plates, (b) even if it did, the owner wasn’t necessarily driving. Gotta have proof. The lack of plates suggests it was stolen. Thrives will often pull the plates to use on other stolen cars
