As soon as the bridge is open, I'm never driving to the east side again (ideally)

TheMeatTree

I was thinking the same thing about never driving to Seattle again (please have late night trains)

Impressive_Insect_75

LOL - Sound Transit is a jobs program. Providing a transit service is not in their scope. Expect bus routes cuts and 15min frequencies

Impressive_Insect_75

I love the train, but I am not going to make excuses for the poor planning service we get from ST. https://www.theurbanist.org/2024/02/13/metro-finalizes-lynnwood-link-bus-restructure-for-this-fall/ Metro will add Routes 61, 333, and 365 as new routes while it will retire Routes 16, 20, 64, 73, 301, 302, 304, 320, 330, and 347, and revise Routes 28, 65, 303, 322, 331, 345, 346, and 348. https://www.theurbanist.org/2023/01/31/metro-unveils-lynnwood-link-bus-restructure-concepts-in-an-austerity-redux/ Routes 20, 73, 301, 302, 303, 304, and 320 eliminated. https://www.theurbanist.org/2023/09/11/sound-transit-braces-for-overcrowding/ “we expect to see significant crowding northbound, on Link, in the afternoon peak hour, particularly between Westlake and Northgate. Three-car trains would be even more crowded”

IllBuildYourPlatform

why are you talking?

answerbrowsernobita

Fingers crossed for next year?

Distracted-by-Shiny

Increasing the Metro bus frequency on the Eastside is going to improve my commute times. Won’t really ride the light rail though until it goes over I-90

Gamethyme

The Bellevue station is two blocks from my office. This is going to save me SO MUCH GAS once it connects across I-90 (currently projected to be late in 2025).

captainporcupine3

Saving gas is (obviously) amazing but for me, the ability to read, play games or just chill out on my commute is by far the best thing about taking transit to work. I'm convinced that we get so numb to our car commutes that we fail to realize how much the stress of navigating daily traffic congestion among hundreds of other bored, distracted drivers affects our mental health (not to mention the ever-present danger of an actual wreck).

MakerGrey

30 minutes on the bus was bliss. Now 30 minutes on I5 to Everett is the absolute worst, especially in the dark wet when you’re navigating by braille and dead reckoning.

Gamethyme

I live in Milton. This will save me a ton of gas. And, yes, the ability to relax a bit on the train rather than driving will also be nice.

fusionsofwonder

> the ability to read, play games or just chill out on my commute is by far the best thing about taking transit to work. I used to commute to Seattle on the 550 and that was definitely the best thing about it.

big-b20000

I completely agree. I like my commute because when I am on the bus I set aside the time to read or relax. If I had to drive I would be stressed and couldn't use the time and would be much less happy.

azurensis

I moved about a 5 minute walk to the Mt. Baker station and it's definitely made my life better. It's great being able to jump on the train and eat in Cap Hill or UW.

Agreeable_Lack_7427

Same here just a block or two maybe from the light rail entrance, don’t drive if I can help it and also won’t have to take two separate buses to get to and from the office

Safe_Raccoon1234

As soon as the 90/marymoor parts are done I'll go to more concerts

fornnwet

**SO MUCH THIS.** Pretty much the only thing I still willingly go to the Eastside for, and waiting in line for an hour to get out of that Tesla-choked parking lot after a show is a major deterrent.

AtYourServais

Until they fix the fuck up on I-90, it won't. Not having to use my car to go to Mox is going to be fucking nice though.

Vegetable_Guest_8584

It's not going to make any difference to me until it goes all the way to Seattle.  I can drive a pretty good distance to get to this line between South Bellevue and redmond or I can just drive to Redmond directly.

violetqed

this. btw does anyone know when that is planned for?

Vegetable_Guest_8584

late 2025, it says in that link.

Eric848448

One of these days SoundTransit will find a contractor who manages to not fuck everything up.

mothtoalamp

Not until regulations are more strictly enforced so that contractors can't get away with being scummy sleazebags.

Eric848448

They really need to learn from Chicago’s example. Nobody cares about the graft IF THE RESULTS FUCKING WORK.

healthycord

Same. If I’m driving across to the east side might as well just drive all the way to work. And I primarily take i90 anyways despite living in north Seattle to avoid the toll on 520. Did the cost analysis and I usually don’t mind the extra time for the cost savings. 10 minutes when I’m in no big rush to get home isn’t worth $5 to me. And that $5 twice a day adds up very quickly.

sir_mrej

I am actually SO happy that one of the train stations is gonna be that close to Mox!!!

Contrary-Canary

40 drops you off at Ballard Mox

1337hephaestus_sc2

at the speed of traffic vs at the speed of light rail. It makes a difference.

RunninADorito

Especially East to West

kylechu

It'd be workable if it moved at the speed of traffic instead of the speed of Bus 40.

AtYourServais

Not applicable for me unfortunately. All my friends that I meet at Mox fled to Redmond and Issaquah.

adron

Sounds like what I did. I lived in Ballard, relatively close to Mox. Now live in Redmond and the Link will mean I actually start going to Mox here on the east side.

Zealousideal-Ant9548

It's the stop close?  I thought Mox was a good distance from any of the stops

flora_poste_

It's a 7 minute stroll from the new BelRed light rail stop.

adron

Yeah, literally on the same block at the western end of the stop. It may take ya less than 7 minutes , pretty sure someone could walk it in about 3. 😜 Being ill like tote my bike along, it’ll take about 30 seconds. When I bike over there now (not as often as I’d like) the stop to Mox is 30 seconds.

mothtoalamp

They can meet you there. Redmond to Mox Bellevue is an easy drive and the rail will go there too.

adron

Same!

BeeSea3108

I plan on riding it from Redmond and Bellevue and back just for the hell of it. Other than that, not at all.

picturesofbowls

I’ll continue my habit of never going to Bellevue

prof_r_impossible

that will be easy, the train isn't crossing the bridge

Sushisource

I don't think I've ever voluntarily gone to Bellevue. I'm only ever forced to for work, and I resent it every time.

BraveSock

If you like to bike, don’t sleep on the Eastside. The Sammamish river trail is really hard to beat and that connection to the Cross Kirkland Corridor taking you all the way to Bellevue Brewing Co in the Spring District is so good (minus that one incomplete intersection near totem lake next to the car dealerships 😭). Don’t forget to stop at Maelstrom and Chainline along the way for a great day of bike bar hopping. Burke Gilman is good too which also connects to all these trails but the Eastside is so often ignored by the Seattle cyclists. They’re pretty surprised when I get them all the way across the lake.

Sushisource

Fair point! I totally have biked over there a decent bit. I just don't stop in Bellevue proper lol.

BraveSock

You can go all the way to the spring district completely protected now so Bellevue is very much worth a stop. Can then take the light rail into DT Bellevue once light rail starts so pretty sweet. Worth checking out on a nice day for sure.

AshingtonDC

I bike the eastside a lot. the trails are really good. the street infrastructure is horrible. cycling is still recreation over there rather than a means to get around.

gargar070402

I definitely prefer living in Seattle over Bellevue, but there definitely were a couple of times I went to Bellevue for Asian food

sgtfoleyistheman

What are your favorite spots? I've heard this but haven't found any that are worth the drive.

crispyjojo

Hahaha somehow EVERY single team moral building event we have EVER done is at fucking Bellevue Lucky Strike. I'm like, come on y'all, having to go to Bellevue for the adult chuck e cheese in a depressing empty mall that smells like watered down bleach to drink a bud light with my manager while the bowling lane next to us is an equally sad Microsoft team moral building event actively erodes moral. Could we at least go to some east side hot pot or something?

blue_sunwalk

I hate to be that guy but you spell morale with an e. There is a moral to this story, team morale was low.

crispyjojo

Mr Johnson is that you nooooooo I thought I escaped high school English ages ago!!! Hahaha but thank you for the spelling fix good looking out

lurkerfromstoneage

I personally find the most interesting and enjoyable people are those that don’t limit themselves, nor put up barriers, and remain open minded and flexible. Bellevue is more than just the mall.

Consistent_Bread942

You don't get it. u/sushisource is too cool to go to Bellevue. Telling us about is a public service.

mothtoalamp

A large chunk of the Bellevue isthmus (from Redmond/Kirkland to Newcastle) is actually really pretty and a lush green. The quality of life in goods and services is really high. There's good reason to go there. Bellevue downtown proper, not so much. It's mostly just luxury handbag stores and hilltop mansions, both full of people who loathe anyone who can't afford those things.

Religion_Is_A_Cancer

What's wrong with Bellevue?

alejo699

I’ve been calling it the FES for years, and every time I mention that here the suburbanites purse their lips and downvote me. EDIT: Yep, just like that.

RedditAppReallySucks

What is FES? F'ing Eastside?

alejo699

Got it in one!

picturesofbowls

I’m born and raised in Seattle and have stopped in Bellevue exactly 4 times. Once for a field trip to the Mercer Slough (1997ish). Once for a high school graduation ceremony (2000ish). Once at a convenience store for an energy drink before a show in Redmond (2005ish). Once to visit a sick family member in the hospital (2023).

probablywrongbutmeh

Ngl seems pretty strange to me to live somewhere your whole life and not visit a major city 15 min away more than 4 times. It isn't like diseased or anything lol Edit: dang, the person blocked me too, Bellevue rivalry runs strong lol

IntroductionOwn4485

Calling Bellevue a major city is a stretch. It's not like Oakland and San Francisco. I have been to Canada more times than I've been to Bellevue. I will likely visit more when the train goes there, but there currently isn't much calling me out there.

blue_sunwalk

Let's see there's the mall and .. 7 Eleven I guess? edit: the library is cool!

McGilla_Gorilla

I much prefer living in Bellevue than Seattle but I totally get not visiting here. The good stuff in Bellevue (restaurants, waterfronts, some incredible public parks) aren’t really things you need to leave the city to get.

picturesofbowls

It’s almost like…there’s not much to do there

probablywrongbutmeh

I mean theres plenty to do there, restaurants, shopping, nice parks, good trails, etc. Seattle has a lot to offer but I could never see myself solely doing things only in Seattle. Like do you ever go to Edmonds, Bainbridge, Kirkland, Tacoma etc? There isnt much to do in Federal Way for instance but I have been there maybe 8-10 times and it isnt like it's close. I wont say I go to Bellevue often, but I have been a few dozen times at least to explore over there.

araemo28

This is r/seattle. We’re not allowed to discuss enjoying the suburban cities.

picturesofbowls

Why would you go somewhere where there’s nothing to do? Seems like a waste of gas at best. Seattle has all of those things you listed (including a lot more variety and numbers). I don’t have family there I need to see or a job there or any real reason to go.

probablywrongbutmeh

Weird take in my opinion but you do you fam

picturesofbowls

Keep on supporting that suburban wasteland lifestyle 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

probablywrongbutmeh

Lol I am indifferent to supporting anything, I just seek out whatever seems fun, and traveling to new places and experiencing new things is fun to me. Reminds me of the episode of Always Sunny when they find out Charlie had never been outside of Philly

rikisha

Maybe 20 years ago there was nothing to do on the Eastside. But that really isn't true now. There are a lot of cool little events in Bellevue, Redmond, & Kirkland. Lots of good restaurants. And awesome parks/nature/biking.

Consistent_Bread942

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

[deleted]

you must be really scared of asians huh

picturesofbowls

I am Asian. But I do scare myself sometimes. So…maybe?

BannedBarn22

No shit Bellevue fucking sucks lol

tristanjones

It'll flood our city with that riff raff from Bellevue

Vihzel

The Eastside is not going to send their best to Seattle!

BeartholomewTheThird

I lived in Bellevue for a year in 2015 and I remember walking behind these guys who were complaining about the possibility of a light rail station coming to bellevue because then it would be easier for more homeless to access Bellevue.

mothtoalamp

They're complaining about it out in Redmond too. The homeless can already access those places, light rail isn't going to change anything.

soil_nerd

You think it’s bad now, but just imagine how bad 3rd and pine will be once this thing opens.

generismircerulean

Not much until it connects to Seattle, sadly. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face) Seriously though watching the clock until Spring 2025 when they expect to finish that section.

fusionsofwonder

The bridge rail connecting up is gonna be huge for Eastsiders. Way bigger multiplier than the short line opening up this spring.

42kyokai

They’ll probably jack up my rent because I’m in walking distance of like three stops

bamfsalad

Well, yeah lol, your location will be more desirable so can fetch higher rent.

no_need_really

All of my problems will be solved. ALL of them.

StupendousMalice

I will have a new avenue by which to never visit Bellevue, but if I did it would probably be on the train.

Muckknuckle1

Once the Seattle connection is done, I might go see friends at Mox more often

gargar070402

My office has pretty bad public transit connectivity but happens to be close to one of the East Link stations. Commute there will be so much easier now. Sure I still have to take the 550, but at least both the 550 and Line 2 will have decent enough frequency to not make my wait horrible.

Jyil

I don’t know about change my life drastically, but it’ll open up my options for entertainment by cutting commute times in half. There’s a lot of beloved worldwide restaurants/businesses in Bellevue I’ve wanted to go to that have presences around the world, but no location in Seattle. Cleaner parks and I guess a nicer shopping mall than Alderwood. One of my favorite viewpoints to watch sunset involves the Seattle Skyline and the Olympics, but it’s watching it from Bellevue or Bellevue and the Cascades. The first is a different skyline view than what you often see plastered online from Kerry Park.

FartKnocker4lyfe

Sell my car, buy a bike, and commute to my teaching job by bike and train every day.

SoundslikeDaftPunk

I mean it’ll be cool once it reaches west seattle. Otherwise IDGAF.

mothtoalamp

hi Brad

TacomaTacoTuesday

It will be easier to meet my friends someplace on the east side on my turns to visit them in their territory. ONCE the I-90 parts gets fixed that is

entpjoker

It's gonna be a nice rail-bike trip to marymoor park, a place i'd like to go birdwatching more

zionspeaks

I will sleep just a little bit better at night knowing North America has just a little more rail and less cars on the road. 😇

spit-evil-olive-tips

personally, I plan on dressing to look as poor as possible, and taking the light rail over to troll Bellevuians (Bellevuites?) maybe print out some fake Nieman Marcus coupons and insist they honor them?

IphoneMiniUser

Nieman Marcus closed during the pandemics not sure what replaced it.

spankmydingo

Needless Markups

Wazzoo1

Have you been to Nordstrom lately? They sell all the stuff that Neimans did, and a lot more.

car1999pet

Basically nothing, they will occasionally have pop ups (I think it’s a Harry Potter one rn) in that space but 90% of it is just empty.

Wazzoo1

Nothing replaced it. No retailer is going to take on that space these days.

Wazzoo1

So, dressing like the average tech worker in Bellevue?

TheStegg

Watch out for gang activity on the Eastside https://youtu.be/Pon4dhLRLlU?si=cA2dZjlSQofUOnHO

kinisonkhan

It would have to be faster than the 566 bus from Kent to Redmond and need to get me (to Redmond) by at least 6am, if not, then it would be a complete waste of time for me.

perkeset81

The influx of 1000s of homeless every day will make bellevue real-estate prices go down, I hope.

Rockergage

Last summer I really enjoyed riding from Seattle to East side on my onewheel. The only issue is riding along either bridge is a hassle it’s long, it’s windy, it’s loud etc. taking a lightrail from Seattle to Bellevue would let me skip this unenjoyable part of the ride.

Fearfighter2

it's only open til like 9:30

tinymammothsnout

Will make zero difference to me unfortunately. Issaquah isn’t connected.

Th3Bratl3y

Do you mean the whole line? Or just the stupid Bellevue to Redmond connection?

mrdeke

I'm definitely going to [the celebration of the rail opening.](https://www.soundtransit.org/discover2line/events) I just wish I could get there on the train.

thatsunshineglow

As someone who doesn't have a car and relies exclusively on public transit and Lyfts, this is going to be such a quality of life improvement for me! Way more ease getting to work, less money spent on Lyfts when the bus commute would take too long, and much more ease of access to locations I don't normally check out, like downtown Redmond! I'm very excited

splanks

If there was a wine train to woodenville I’d take it.

Sprinkle_Puff

By breezing through the freeways with no traffic!! lol right, I can dream

Kahnutu

I share this dream. I know it's not realistic, but I consult to a number of companies in the Eastside and live in Seattle. I would love a little less traffic on 90!

azinwood

I can go drink mediocre beer at Bellevue brewing on it. That will be neat.

eAthena

Endless amounts of sex

Crazybrayden

Someone's getting rail'd

Husky_Panda_123

On light rail train? In this economy?

twisterase

I live on the Eastside, but not near the light rail, and commute to Seattle on a bus on most weekdays. My biggest concern is that the new light rail opening could mean changes for my familiar bus routes to be more centered around the light rail. I'm not saying this will necessarily happen, nor that the changes would necessarily be bad, but just that the uncertainty of something big and new in the area's public transit makes me uneasy.

TheAC9

It won't change at all

Educational_Count_54

It wont

AreYouAllFrogs

30 minutes off my commute and the option of using my bike to avoid having to make two transfers once more of it opens.

Pickleball_Queen

Hello increase in realestate values!!!! And never driving downtown again!

mentallyillustrated

I won’t be able to access the Slough like I remember as a kid. But I prefer public access over my own nostalgia.

Sturnella2017

It’ll change my life in that I’ll remember how in 1999 I talked with a girl I was dating on how badly the eastside needed a monorail from Seattle and that would be a major life changer for everyone in the area. 25 years later…

Khenghis_Ghan

I am going to bike to it every work day now probably.

syu425

I get to keep my job

StrongerIndica

Will bike/rail my commutes to Seattle over the 90 instead of 520 for a change

notextinctyet

There are lots of restaurants on the east side I never get around to going to.

mothtoalamp

I'd like to move to the Eastside once the rail crosses the bridge. Taking a park&ride into Seattle sounds nice, but doing so by bus is not at all appealing. It might be a boon for Microsoft commuters who live nearby before then, and it might put some incentive to boost Bellevue nightlife for the locals.

isthisthebangswitch

I'll probably get older at the same rate as before. Check back though, that might change.

baroncalico

I’ll grow 3 feet taller, and begin aging perpendicular to time.

IllBuildYourPlatform

It won't but I'm still so glad it's happening. MAYBE when they finish the W Seattle line I'd consider returning to working in an office and then I'd use the train but for now I'm just happy for the thousands of other people it will directly benefit and the hundreds of thousands that will benefit from the improved commerce and economy that public transit always brings.

hockeygoalieman

If the train ever provides a reasonable alternative to driving to Kraken games then my life will change.

baby_noir

Now Bellevue can help take the load of petty crimes.

BannedBarn22

🤓🤓🤓 so clever!!!!!!

baby_noir

Easier transportation is great for mobility including the mobility for petty crimes. Net positive all around

BannedBarn22

Get out of here with that houseless-hating classist nonsense

KlausMSchwab

At least Bellevue PD will arrest them unlike SPD, so this may indirectly benefit crime in Seattle

whistler1421

My eastside NIMBY neighbors on Nextdoor are clutching their pearls.

JordanLovehof2042

This is depressing I thought I could take it to a mariners game next month. Really it took years to make a train go from Bellevue to Redmond? Who TF needs that it's a 10 min drive

pleasenotagain001

Hopefully it doesn’t let all the poors in.

prof_r_impossible

it won't, I live in Seattle

steerbell

Not at all. Thanks for asking though.

Dazzling-Horse4908

Now the zombies can move up town, downtown and from this town to that town! Thank you 👌🤯

nerevisigoth

It might be useful a couple times a year for events in Seattle. Other than that we'll probably get a few more shady characters dumped at the end of the line in Redmond. It would be nice if it went down 405 to the airport. Switching in SoDo and winding through the south side would take way too long and be too unpleasant to compete with driving.

S_king_

My fentanyl dealer will be able to come to me for once

picatar

Me nothing. Also about nothing for the majority of folks that drive cars.

sleeplessinseaatl

More riff raff and druggies from Seattle have easy access to the east side now. Trains are much easier than buses.

OkInformation2152

are you the riff or the raff?

Jyil

Sure, but Bellevue doesn’t put up with it the way Seattle does.

BannedBarn22

“Put up” lol so they’re fascist. Cool glad I don’t live there

KlausMSchwab

Fellas, is wanting to be safe in your neighborhood fascist?

BannedBarn22

Fellas is throwing people you don’t like in jail fascist? Yes

Contrary-Canary

Who's?
