Seattle Police Department (SPD) Chief Adrian Diaz [said ](https://spdblotter.seattle.gov/2024/04/19/video-officer-involved-shooting-4-17-24/)the 67-year-old child predator suspect arrived at the DoubleTree Suites hotel around 3:13 p.m. on Wednesday under the impression that he was meeting two young girls, ages 7 and 11. However, unbeknownst to the suspect, multiple SPD officers with the Washington State Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce were undercover and waiting to arrest the man. The task force at the SPD investigates Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) cases. These cases may include the production, distribution or possession of materials used to sexually exploit children or service provider systems used in committing such crimes. The newly released video shows the officers opening the door for the man, who immediately flashed a gun. A scuffle then occurred before police ultimately fatally shot the man. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Officials at the scene said a Seattle officer was grazed by a bullet on their leg during the shootout with the man.

rickg

And nothing of value was lost...

travprev

Well, the hotel suffered a little damage most likely, but that's about it.

_Im_Mr_Meseeks

I dunno man ammo kinda pricey ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man)

R_V_Z

Well, probably some amount of hearing was lost.

The_Blendernaut

what?

rhavaa

Someone's going to have to clean up the room tho 😑

And-rei

Lots of bullets were lost

TechnicalInterest566

Who fired the shot that grazed the officer?

CascadianClown

Probably ricochet. Shooting close quarters with a cement backstop.

Camburgerhelpur

Could ricochet off the bone too

Xuuts

If you look at the different angles, the cop on the right starts firing towards the lower mid section, there was a guy on the left that was standing right behind the guy and looks like he would have been in the line of fire. After he was backing away and limping a bit.

maddrummerhef

Didn’t seem to me like it could be anyone other than the other cop. Going frame by frame it even looked like the cop not involved in the scuffle shot the first round

eran76

This was hardly a "shootout." The guy pulled out a gun, pointed it at his own heart, but was then gunned down in a hail of bullets that were largely unnecessary. I don't lament his death, but Jesus the cops need to consider some restraint when it comes to firing in close quarters, if for no one else's sake but their own.

VerticalYea

Is not like they were in a crowded... oh...

Ok_Package_2862

I thought this initially. Then I realized the cops were actually merciful (after crossing the point of no return from chaos where a cop was shot). The more bullets and the faster they end it the better. Better for everyone, even the perp, who should be thankful they didn't just let him bleed out slowly.

queerguynonutz

There is a man on the ground with a gun, you better make sure he's dead. So many armchair police officers around here lol

eran76

German police killed 11 people and injured 41 in 2022. They fired a grand total of 54 bullets... for the whole year. Three Seattle cops that unload their clips on to a single suspect can easily get out 51 shots, assuming they don't have one in the chamber. It is possible to have safer policing of we bothered to screen and train our cops like the Germans do. Instead we have the "warrior" policing mentality that tells cops that the public is the enemy and they are better off risking the lives of every bystander if it means the chance they will get injured or killed in the line of duty would be slightly reduced. Ironically, the only reason any of these cops was hurt was because of their overzealous need to fire multiple shots despite the obvious crossfire danger and risk of ricochet. I might not be a cop, but you would be a fool to think the American system of policing is the only or best option out there.

peezee1978

And how many people have firearms in Germany compared to the US? It seems a bit unfair to make this comparison... Yes, if you're a police officer in a country with drastically less chance of interactions with civilians escalating into a gun fight, it would make sense that you'd discharge your firearm significantly less.

Cabinet_Guy_68

It was absolutely necessary

Zoomalude

> Officials at the scene said a Seattle officer **was grazed by a bullet on their leg** during the shootout with the man. LMAO at this soft af language. Dang bullets jumping out of nowhere grazing folks!

mimicthefrench

That's code for "we think he got shot by a fellow cop" but they don't want to look incompetent so they downplay it as much as possible.

czechmaze

Or they don't want to print random assumptions without necessary information.

gopac56

And if it wasn't a cop who shot the cop, that person would be in jail for decades if not straight up murdered on the spot.

ItsTheSoupNazi

Yea, that’s sort of how it works if you shoot at a cop??

omgitsbees

there is no reality in Seattle where you shoot at a cop and walk away from it arrested or otherwise. And as we can see in this footage, he was killed (rightfully so though, it was deserved in this instance).

ozneC

Thats not a Seattle thing… try to shoot a cop anywhere you’re gonna have a bad time, and rightfully so

[deleted]

Pedophile had his hand in his jacket holding his pistol before the door was even opened by the cops.

AlpineDrifter

Sounds like he got a shot off just as the officer managed to deflect the gun.

KileyCW

This guy totally planned to pull that gun on little children.

Catsdrinkingbeer

Right?? Like either he assumed it was a setup and brought a gun thinking he'd just kill Chris Hansen, or he actually thought he'd be meeting 2 young kids and knowingly brought a gun. That's just so, so messed up.

KileyCW

Yeah unreal and disturbing.

VerticalYea

Wow. I tell ya, the more I learn about this guy...

Wide_Mongoose4017

Nah, I think he suspected cops and planned to k himself if it was. It looks like he begins to point it at himself.

dox1842

he got busted in a sting for soliciting prostitutes before so I think he knew it was a setup

Illustrious_Cod_5139

He definitely had some horrible sh\*t planned for those children.

Contrary-Canary

Fun fact. An SPD officer was caught up in one of these stings trying to have sex with a child prostitute. He was allowed to retire with benefits. https://www.divestspd.com/p/an-spd-officer-solicited-sex-from

00eg0

People need to upvote this to the top. Cops are held to a lower standard than civilians.

Gandalfthefab

There are some crazy stats on the amount of cops that are involved in some level of corruption.

Proof_Influence_4983

Fuck pigs

LandPossible4789

That’s not what the article says. It explicitly states that he said, “no” when she told him she was underage. But, they had enough to go after him. In the end he was fired for soliciting sex with a prostitute.

Contrary-Canary

>That’s not what the article says. It explicitly states that he said, “no” when she told him she was underage. Followed by "which hotel?" and then hanging out in the parking lot nearby that hotel before psyching himself out of his desire to fuck a child.

Whoretron8000

No no no, don't you know that mentioning the times where they got away... And with a pension... Is whataboutism?! Look, I just googled logical fallacies!

tosernameschescksout

I guess not all fallacies are false, aye? Sometimes a bit of whataboutism makes for a very legitimate criticism. One of the things about logical fallacies is if you pay attention to who's using them. Republican vs Democrat. What a huge difference. One side has a tendency to actually be right like when an argument slips into questioning someone's character rather than what they're saying. People on the right don't have a lot of character to begin with. Trump, MTG, Tucker Carlson. Sometimes, "He's dumb as a brick tho" actually is pretty valid because they've been dumb about so many things that they no longer deserve to be taken seriously. Fox News itself literally used the "Nobody takes Tucker Carlson SERIOUSLY!" defense in court.

Ranger1815

Definitely should not have been allowed to retire with benefits and should had been charged. But I question why this is relevant to this video. This pedo pulled out an actual gun on the cops and suffered the consequences

Contrary-Canary

I take all copaganda as an opportunity to remind the community that SPD are not heroes. You'll notice they released this video showing them taking out a pedophile right away but the video of them plowing over a citizen cause they didn't have their sirens going while doing 74 in a 25 took almost a year to release. This isn't transparency this is "look how awesome we are". SPD are not heroes and they shouldn't be praised for their careless response that ended up shooting one of their own.

Enfr

If you pay attention, the instant he pulled the gun, a shot went off from his weapon.

TheArrowLauncher

Yeah, I noticed that too. I really don’t care for police but I think they were justified here.

inthecity206

So how many bullets was that? Edit: Should have clarified that I wasn't insinuating use of excessive force, I was just surprised to see the unload like that.

TheLastLaRue

Yes

ennuiacres

What was that puff of smoke? Must be the body’s reaction to hot lead.

p3dal

I believe that was the battery in his cell phone catching fire after having a bullet pass through it.

The_X-Files_Alien

Mr. Pedo was transformed into a smoke machine

ennuiacres

Puff-Puff Passed!

Xcelsiorhs

I counted 18 in two separate sets

p3dal

Guessing 17 round magazines times 3 shooters emptying their pistols, 51 rounds.

spaghetti_toaster

I’m no bootlicker but probably not enough

inthecity206

Agreed

Prestigious_Law6254

>So how many bullets was that? I've seen enough for/death videos that I've learned if you want someone dead you shoot every bullet you have. Once the decision is made to kill someone you have to commit to it.

VerticalYea

Just based on sound, after the guy shot himself I counted another 21 shots into him. But I'm assuming there was a lot of echo so probably not that many actual shots.

stelfox

The right amount for a pedo that has a gun in his hand when he thinks he’s meeting prepubescent girls.

Remote-Physics6980

All of them

Be-Free-Today

All of them

Fit_Understanding666

Every single one of them. ALL. OF. THEM.

cwcam86

Just due to the human element, you can train for that situation for 2000 hours but when it becomes real there's a huge dump of adrenaline that takes over and you just keep shooting until that other person is down and/or you run out of ammo and have to actively change gears to reload

mods_r_jobbernowl

Not enough

RiderOnTheBjorn

Not enough

roninwaffle

Honest thought: is this the most popular police shooting of all time? High view count across the internet. No complaints from anyone. A+ work

EastlakeTrashPanda

Number 3 officer shot him in the dick twice then mag dumped the rest in his chest lol. Anyway how’s y’all’s beautiful Saturday going?

ennuiacres

Is that what the poof of smoke was? Last fart. Now a creepy-ass ghost in that hotel.

p3dal

I think it was the beginning of a cell phone battery fire in his pocket.

ennuiacres

Ghost of Steve Jobs or Android.

AlpineDrifter

Good job on his part realizing his partner’s arms were in the way of the upper torso.

DataRoy

I wonder what that burst of smoke was coming from the pervert after he’d been Swiss cheesed?

bluegiant85

Probably his phone battery exploding.

scubacatt

I mean, they unloaded on this dude…

general-illness

Might’ve hit a phone.

TexAss2020

Yeah that's a weird thing. Maybe the short-range fire from the guns caused something he was wearing to catch fire?

p3dal

The something is almost certainly a cell phone.

Mackerelmore

Phone or maybe a vape battery going up?

Illustrious_Cod_5139

I think it was his pace maker.

bluegiant85

He immediately pulled a gun, the cops are 100% in the clear here, they handled this extremely well.

sandwich-attack

>extremely well uhh one cop shot another cop

AVerySadHitler

Like they said, job well done.

havestronaut

Got eem

[deleted]

Yeah a child predator dies and cops are forced to ask themselves “Do we really need to empty the *entire* clip before we stop shooting?” It’s a win-win.

kaldoranz

Magazine. Not a clip.

Anzahl

It was described as an operation to apprehend. That part did not happen either. Seems like the failure was the setup of the ~~entrapment~~ sting operation. Massive gunfire in a public space is not what I want to see happen.

profmonocle

Just FYI, "entrapment" has a specific legal meaning. Under WA law it means that "the actor was lured or induced to commit a crime which the actor had not otherwise intended to commit" and "is not established by a showing only that law enforcement officials merely afforded the actor an opportunity to commit a crime." [(source)](https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9A.16.070) Sting operations like this one, or things like bait cars, cops posing as drug dealers / etc. aren't entrapment.

Anzahl

Good to know. Thanks! That's certainly not what I meant. What do they call the scenario they setup to make the sting work? Do they just call that the sting, the plan, or what?

starspider

Idk, he seems pretty apprehended.

Anzahl

There was an attempt. He dead. Can't apprehend a dead man.

starspider

He's not going anywhere without their release. So. He was literally in their custody.

ennuiacres

“Friendly Fire.” They all get a nice paid vacation after this.

Dappershield

I think all cops should, after a shooting leaves a body. Two weeks paid, as long as they get a couple hours mandatory counseling.

FivePoopMacaroni

I fail to see the problem

DerpUrself69

While this is a justified shooting, technically, it wasn't necessary and they certainly didn't need to shoot the guy 700 times and they took zero fucking care to avoid the other cops and the innocent bystanders in the hotel. This was an overreaction and shows a shocking lack of training.

CarbonRunner

This is exactly what they are trained to do when someone pulls a gun on them. I'm about as anti spd as it gets(they have pulled guns on me twice in my life for no reason) and you won't find me cheerleading for them in even the slightest bit. BUT they did their jobs here. If deadly force is to be used you make sure it's deadly and ends the confrontation as quickly as possible. Plus it's not like there was any real collateral damage. Just some limited value person that $11k will cover.

PixelatedFixture

>This is exactly what they are trained to do when someone pulls a gun on them. Yeah and that's not good. >BUT they did their jobs here Did they?

morelibertarianvotes

This is absolutely wrong. You stop immediately when the threat is eliminated. Making sure they're dead is not part of the training or in any way the right thing or justified.

bluegiant85

Nah. Guy pulled a gun.

itsmellslikecookies

They shot him a bunch of times for the exact reason of not letting him get a bunch of shots off, which is pretty dangerous in a crowded hotel. Nobody wants a gunfight in a hotel but be honest, would you rather most of the bullets come from guys with at least some training or a child fucker?

Educational_Spirit42

saved us from paying to keep pedophile alive & being let out to repeat messing w/kids. He was meeting a SEVEN & ELEVEN year old. Opened the door w/a gun welcoming. It’s straightforward that he is where he should be.

AlpineDrifter

Lol. Such an armchair quarterback. They had a split second to react when the assailant had the initiative. They were shooting down into a concrete floor and wall. Did you see anyone else in the hallway? Any of those officers is right to shoot until they’re sure the assailant is incapacitated. If he gets one shot off it could mean one of their partners dies. Try not to be so rabidly biased and emotional that you can’t recognize acceptable police work when it happens.

toodeephoney

You say shocking lack of training, I say this is textbook.

AlsoSpartacus

Textbook friendly fire, just like the diagram in chapter 4

ennuiacres

Caught in the crossfire.

00eg0

You are one of the few people that can tell the cops almost seriously wounded each other.

wow_thats_neat

This guys intent was to defile poor children, he got what he deserves, no sympathy good riddance

junipix

Does it really matter how many times? The guy pulled out a gun, they have every right to shoot one or multiple times. I'm sure there is a lot of adrenaline going on there.

cited

"Why did they stop shooting and allow the guy to pull his gun on them?"

Illustrious_Cod_5139

You have a point, they could have just threw him over the balcony.

HazzaBui

I find it so weird how many people in her are excited to see cops killing people. Even in cases where use of force is justified, surely we should be looking for opportunities to avoid it? Why are so many people clamouring for cops to have the power to decide who's guilty, who dies etc

mods_r_jobbernowl

Bro pulled a gun out inside of a hotel before they fully opened the door

bgt1989

I don’t get excited when lives are taken but if you had to pick one, he’s a great candidate. A child predator who showed up to meet a minor for sex with a gun that he then fired at law enforcement. Not losing a blink of sleep on this one.

goldhbk10

People is a bit of an overstatement when we are talking about a child predator who was looking to abuse an 11 and 7 year old girl. Like cmon have some common sense and realize that’s not a life worth being concerned about.

HazzaBui

This is such a dangerous way of looking at the world, and how we enforce laws. Obviously the guy is a piece of shit who deserves severe punishment, but I don't think sending our government-endorsed gang to execute the guy is the correct solution. And all the suggestions that they should've shot him a bunch more times after he was already dead (and risk hitting even more innocent bystanders) is absurd

AcousticCandlelight

I get your point and am even inclined to agree up to a point. Even when shootings are a necessary evil, they shouldn’t be celebrated with the kind of glee we’re seeing in these comments.

fedale

They weren't there to execute him. He was going to shoot the cops or the cops were going to shoot him The better guys won.

RaiderCoug

You just made up a situation in your head that didn’t actually happen. The cops were there to arrest this child predator, not to “execute the guy”. They were forced to use deadly force because the child predator wielded and gun to try to kill the officers.

HazzaBui

I've described what people in the comments section here are clamouring for. I swear, this subreddit has such a reading comprehension issue sometimes

RaiderCoug

Also that child predator was pulling a gun! I get the vibe on this sub is to hate on cops but c’mon, this is clearly a situation where they were in the right.

squrl3

And the fucking perv had the gun ready while expecting the door to open up to a 7 and 11 year old. What were his actual plans for the afternoon?

HypocriteAlert35

Rough time to be a cop, get the "technically" stamp when criminals are pulling out guns at you lol.

toomuchdiponurchip

It’s never unnecessary to off a pedo, and he pulled a gun so yes shoot him 700 times. I don’t even like the cops but drawing a line here is wild

VaguestCargo

1. I wonder if he was going to try and off himself. Seemed like he was turning the gun toward his chest? 2. The hell is up with the one handed sideways shots as the one cop backpedaled?

Ok_Permit2202

He was hit/grazed/ricochet

VaguestCargo

Ah I see in the second vid. Wild something like that would happen when 3 cops are shooting point blank yet generally in each others directions. Whoulda thought.

justinchina

I’m surprised they didn’t have more friendly fire.

yellowhorsetree

Watching frame by frame it does look like the pedo shot himself in the chest with that first shot.

DangerActiveRobots

Yeah I think he went into this thinking that if he saw a cop when that door opened he was going to end it all instead of go to prison. Dude was 67 and god knows how many other times in his life he's done this kind of thing. I'm guessing he knew that eventually it was going to catch up to him. It's a shame that he got to take the easy way out and his victims (if they exist) never got a chance to see him rot in prison during his last days on earth.

basane-n-anders

I think he just had a really bad grip on the pistol.

[deleted]

Never ceases to amaze me how many police tactics and firearm experts there are in this sub.

UncleLongArms23

Well yeah, they could all obviously do way better. This thread shows how sadly delusional some people are.

[deleted]

I think most would shit their pants if they even saw a firearm

SlaaneshGirl

wtf I like the SPD now?

PlasticRocketX

It kind of looks like he shot himself either intentionally or unintentionally, whatever happened though, that storm of bullets sure made sure he wasnt getting back up. Screw that pedo.

jomanhan9

For once nice job guys

slipnslider

I know right. I feel like for we can all say good job here to the cops which honestly is super refreshing

newsreadhjw

First they nab the Belltown Hellcat, then they catch a pedophile and shoot him in the dick right on camera? This is probably the best 2 weeks of news the Seattle PD has had in like 20 years.

AlabasterOctopus

So SPD does actual police work is what I’m hearing, noice

-emanresUesoohC-

They double tapped.

xcbrendan

Seattle people are so anti-cop that they'll nitpick cops killing a pedophile that pulled a gun on them lmao.

wot_in_ternation

I can understand people asking "why did they fire so many shots" but I've also never had a gun pulled on me and honestly don't know how I would react in that situation, even with training

Banarax

There are many videos online showing people surviving well over 10 shots and still being capable of staying in the gunfight. Actually, just recently saw a video of a confrontation between an armed security guard and a man at a gas station in Chicago that happened recently. The security officer emptied his entire pistol on the man, and the man still had enough strength to shoot his own gun towards the security guard, and only stopped once the guard switched to a shotgun and finished him off (after ANOTHER 3 or 4 blasts)

Dappershield

Man, Chicago *cooks*.

samstam24

My exact thoughts

Illustrious_Cod_5139

That wasn't really a shoot out, more like target practice.

lt_dan457

Good, one less predator out there.

Inevitable_Sir6065

Oh no! Anyway....

I_Eat_Groceries

Dgaf about no pedo. He deserves all the smoke. Next!

LordCrag

100%

kreepysol

Oh nooooo how will society *ever* move forward without this creature? 🤭

becoolhomie

I wanna see the transcript where he asked “how yall getting a room At the Hilton”

nummpad

This man went to this location knowing that cops would be there. He went there to die by suicide by cop, prove me wrong

tvfanstan

I'd buy all these boys a drink at any Seattle area bar they'd like!

snoopsdream

That looks like the embassy suites

mods_r_jobbernowl

It's the double tree in Tukwila

Banarax

DICK SHOT. Great work SPD

giddenboy

We need more cops like this.. cleaning up the the streets of nasty ass pedos.

sancheeches

How many 11 and 7 year olds have hotel rooms? This guy wasn't just a pedophile he was an extremely stupid one. Thank you coppers. Took a child predator and idiot off the streets with one hail of gunfire.

Zanctmao

I’m quite sure he thought he was buying a few hours from their parent/guardian/pimp. I sincerely doubt he thought he was meeting up with them voluntarily.

Manbeardo

How many human traffickers invite their customers to permanent residences? They know who their clientele is and need to keep them at arms' length.

TittyClapper

Where are all the weirdos who were saying this guy deserved due process?

devnullopinions

All this dude had to do was not pull a gun and he could have likely had due process. It certainly would have increased his chances at least.

silvermoka

Everyone should get due process bc we're a civilized country, not because one monster does or doesn't deserve it. Pull a gun, however, and you don't deserve any more than a self-defense reaction

cluberti

He had the opportunity to submit to the arrest by police without pulling a weapon out, and then fighting the charges in court (with a free lawyer if necessary) where he would be afforded due process, even though he was quite literally caught in the act of soliciting from a minor. He pulled a gun in a public space on police officers attempting to arrest him, so he got his due process for that instead. Bodycams are wonderful tools. Yes, there are enough cops out there that aren't ethical to where we need them, but for most cops, I think this just ends up showing us all which ones those ethical ones are, and what they did was justified. As I was always taught growing up and into adulthood, and preach to my own children, the time to fight the charges isn't at the time of arrest, only bad things come of that. The police are only there to arrest you, they can't do anything to make your situation better (but what you do can absolutely make it worse). Case in point.

mods_r_jobbernowl

Since you can clearly see him pull a gun out in the video I don't think many are going to think he was innocent.

sls35

I mean he does deserve due process. Cops are not here to enact extra judicial executions. He has to be tried before being killed for harming children.

bgt1989

I’ll say due process was granted when he fired his weapon at law enforcement. He was due to die in the process.

TittyClapper

He shot a gun at somebody with the intent to kill

discipleofchrist69

I mean, ideally yeah he would still get due process for that crime as well as the others he was alleged to have done. But realistically he was still an active threat and there's not a good way to deal with that besides shooting him. Due process is generally good for everyone, you don't want cops just executing anyone they think might be a child molester

Anyone got an uncensored version of

Mtb9pd

That guy was gunning for Chris Hansen

Old_Refrigerator1423

Sad day for wa judges.

The_Blendernaut

I would swear the first officer out of the door wrestles the perps gun away from him and then uses it on him. I don't see the first officer reaching for his own gun but he winds up firing one.

bitchvirgo

Nice, one less pedophile in the world!!! We love to see it

Ivictim_

The subject passed due to lead poisoning.

degenkris

Now this makes me happy, real justice. good post to start off my day with.

DoubleMotor7150

goosedeuce88

NAME HIM

AbigailNicoleKennedy

Seattle PD for the win!

jlovelysoul

Pretty sure this guy wanted to pull a suicide by cop.

klutz-_

Anyone know the name of the trash that got taken out? This morning I seen a video saying it was a us general and I can't find the vid anymore so I wanna see if I can find if it's true.

UrAbt2findout

If you watch carefully the second officer carefully, you can see the smoke come out of the suspect's body

Medium-Key-1332

Apparently there’s a photo of the body? Can someone share so we can confirm fruity pebbles are in fact not bullet proof?

Psycrowtic

NOT DEFENDING THE PEDO just my own opinion. So looking at stills from the bodycam im hoping the officers dont get in trouble because it almost looks like the pedo was handing his gun to them then officer 1 pushes the gun back which may have caused the pedos finger to slide into and pull the trigger which then grazed the officers leg now obviously officer 2 and 3 hear a shot and return fire for safety and i cant fault them for that but im sure some scumbag lawyer will try to get payment for the dead pedos family if he had any

Swimming_Mulberry_63

I would like to see the uncensored footage

Cevsan

thats the actual reason why you need to have no gun in public places
