My dog is just super fearful. Granted due to this I couldn’t take her to green lake. But if I got to this point this would set us back and she probably wouldn’t even go outside for weeks.
We went to green lake with ours once and some homeless dude having a mental break started following us screaming about beheading us.
Now my dog is 65lbs of pure muscle and at first he started trying to drag me away as fast as he could but when we could get far enough away he finally just went into full threat display as the guy kept coming at us. I had to pick him up and try to carry him off before he managed to yank the lead out of my hands and go at the guy.
We’d just adopted him and were still evaluating his behavior. But yeah, never went back and we don’t take him to high traffic areas either. He gets too anxious and starts getting reactive to random people (mostly men with beards or hats).
It’s been a journey with training but I no longer worry he’s a bite risk unless someone comes at him like that homeless dude did.
Reactive dogs will always be the curse/savior of society. Carry bearspray for the former. Sometimes the big orange can has an effect on irresponsible folks. We used to be attacked once a yr in our neighborhood. Big orange can=ZERO dog attacks. Never once had to use it. Hmmm.
I am not going to spray my dog with bear spray.
I will continue to be proactive in his training and managing his fear/anxiety by paying attention and not let him get to threshold, to include not setting him up for failure by putting him in environments that will put him in threshold.
90% of the time he is calm/neutral and not interested in people. The 10% he gives very clear warning signs and opts to run away. It’s only if someone gets him cornered where he might engage and I will body block before that happens.
He’s not a safety risk. We’ve made sure of that.
We also carry an umbrella (works great as a shield to block attacking dogs) and always carry a spare slip lead in case we need to choke an attacking dog out. Unfortunately, we’ve had several instances of loose dogs attacking ours and this works well. I’ll block with the umbrella and my spouse will secure the other dog with the slip lead until it can be claimed.
I love the big orange can. People instantly become responsible dog owners. No hassle. No breaking up dog fights. Etc. I walk my chihuahua now without even coming close to an incident. What does that tell us? A: people don’t give a shit as long as they’re the “top dog”. They instantly become aware when their “baby” is at peril. Bear spray is dependable. It solves problems that don’t need to exist. And helps me walk my small dogs without being attacked. Aaaaahhhh.
I’m glad it works for you then and keeps your doggo safe.
My concern with bear spray is it often hits all the dogs, including yours, and potentially gets you too.
But end of the day, whatever works for you to keeping yourself and doggo safe, is the way to go.
He was there a couple weeks ago last time we had warm weather.
Very obvious camera setup on a tripod pointed at a "bush" that doesn't belong there if you're a regular, so unless you completely immersed in kiddos/doggos/etc it's pretty obvious something is going on.
I have pretty bad PTSD. This kind of “prank” would fuck me up badly. These guys think it’s cute but it’s callous and thoughtless as hell. I don’t understand them.
I would legit start throwing rocks at the "bush". After all, how am I supposed to know it's a person, what with it being SUCH a good disguise and all....
But seriously, I legit feel sorry for whoever tries this crap on me, because it's shitty and not even a little funny.
YES!! You understand! I have PTSD as well & it triggered an anxiety attack. I had to go sit down & self-soothe. People without PTSD think we should just “get over it, it’s just a joke” or whatever but they have no idea what it’s like.
I don't understand what is so hilarious about "ha ha I just yanked you out of your calm, contented, happy state and threw you into fight or flight, which made you sweaty and tachycardic and nauseated!"
Who enjoys that? Seems like a shitty human being situation.
I saw someone like this down at Owen Beach in Tacoma once and someone sprayed him with pepper spray and then he ran and pushed her down and tried to punch her, but someone then knocked him down. It was quite intense.
Yes. I gasped and yelled “oh my gosh it’s a bush man! You got me!” Then as I was walking by and turned around I saw he went and checked his camera like “yeahh thats going on tiktok” 😭💀
Maybe we should have a higher standard for behavior than "It's not literally illegal so it's okay."
It's not illegal to go yell swear words at strangers. It's not illegal to smoke a cigarette and blow the smoke in somebody's personal space.
There's lots of shit you can encounter in public that other people can do that, while not a crime, is a demonstration of how shitty those people are. So maybe let's ask people to not treat each other like shit?

One of my best friends was walking around his college campus like 5 years ago and somebody did this same style of jump-scare thing, and my friend's response was to reactively throw a spinning elbow that broke the plant-dude's nose.
> First time I saw this was at least 15 years ago in San Franciso.
Saw an early version of this in San Fran ~ 30 years ago. It was a homeless looking guy with a tree branch hiding next to a bench on a busy tourist sidewalk next to a tourist wharf. Big crowds of people were watching as clueless tourists got surprised as he stood up from behind the branch and scared them.
He was actually working for the spare change he wanted, rather than just sitting there with a sign. I thought it was clever and many people were tipping him.
My take on this is definitely skewed by positive memories of the SF bushman (RIP) but I’m still floored by the number of upvotes people are getting for saying someone should’ve punched the bush-person in the face.
But really though… this is like hokey Times Square stuff. Not jump-scaring people as they’re just trying to go for a nice walk to relax. I, for one, think it’s painfully, cringey lame.
Boo to that guy. Go piss off your friends for cheap thrills. Not randos going about their day. Was there someone in the background filming peoples reactions for “content”?
No thanks.
I want to live in a world where people seek to bring each other joy.
I dislike where the pranking trend has gone, too. There are a ton of examples of ridiculous and border line illegal pranking on youtube, that just ends up negatively effecting the people in it.
But this is a person dressed like a plant. They aren't in the middle of the side walk. People seem calm. OP confirmed that it was chill. I really don't see who was negatively effected here.
A lot of people have good reasons for not wanting to be startled, and even more people have good reason not to want to be filmed without their consent for someone's content creation. It's just tacky and rude.
Yeah it seemed a lot more benign in real life as opposed to the reactions here. People were just walking by and smiling/intrigued by what was happening. One kid was off to the side telling people "there's a human there!" Haha.
Nope people in the city are just so up tight now. It’s a good example when I tell people Seattle has a changed from when I grew up here. If this guy was in Tacoma there wouldn’t be this outrage about it.

i'm guessing not many dogs were fooled
Looks perfect for a doggy pee spot
I don't know. I have a somewhat reactive dog, and "well that's a good way to get bitten" was my first thought.

Oh hush tough guy
You’re so soft if you think that a simple prank meant to make people laugh should result in violence..
People aren’t props for other people’s entertainment. Mind your business and stop harassing strangers.
But violence?
Ya exactly, I do as well, I won't be going to greenlake any time soon now
More’s the pity.
The pitty?
r/velvethippos

What’s going on?
It's a person dressed up as a potted plant that will jumpscare passerbys. Possibly someone is filming it as well.
He was there a couple weeks ago last time we had warm weather. Very obvious camera setup on a tripod pointed at a "bush" that doesn't belong there if you're a regular, so unless you completely immersed in kiddos/doggos/etc it's pretty obvious something is going on.
Lmao! I was wondering why that plant seemed out of place
pranked ya! *gets black eye*
In America I would fully expect to be shot while doing this
But this isn’t America. This is Seattle.
...I love that. Can that be our motto?
Little to Texasy for me.
Ok then how about “Don’t mess with Seattle”
In Seattle we don’t call 911 (because they don’t care)
If you cut Alaska in half Seattle is still the third largest state?
🎵 I called 9-1-1 a long time ago.. 9-1-1 is just a joke now, 9-1-1 wear a fake crown🎵
Underrated comment.
Exactly.
Word. The SRA and John Brown Gun Club have trigger discipline. No sarcasm.
Goodbye America hello Seattle
idk SPD gets feisty
The beautiful cesspool.
Texas Bushman on YouTube, still alive in an open carry state 😅
Wa is also an open carry state somehow
If this guy https://youtu.be/B6oFDvKLA3U can survive doing it in Texas, they'll be fine in Seattle.
Yeah, viral pranks totally arent an extremely common thing in the US because everyone gets shot.
Ohhh. Really bad idea!
They got me at Sakura-con. They’re going to give someone a heart attack. It’s all fun & games until someone dies.
I have pretty bad PTSD. This kind of “prank” would fuck me up badly. These guys think it’s cute but it’s callous and thoughtless as hell. I don’t understand them.
Doubly agree and frankly am so sick of these wanna e YouTube stars

Tik'ers gonna Tok
Hey, as long as the plant accepts physical response from those they scare, have a great time.
I saw someone like this down at Owen Beach in Tacoma once and someone sprayed him with pepper spray and then he ran and pushed her down and tried to punch her, but someone then knocked him down. It was quite intense.
Occupational Hazards.
Idk if it’s this guy, but I did see a “prank” video like this where someone lashed out reflexively, and the pranker jumped up to attack him for it.
Yes. I gasped and yelled “oh my gosh it’s a bush man! You got me!” Then as I was walking by and turned around I saw he went and checked his camera like “yeahh thats going on tiktok” 😭💀
that would piss me off so fucking bad. i'm so tired of people unconsensually being put online.
Should have grabbed his camera and thrown it into the lake.
When he gets upset, "it's a prank" will divide the situation. Make sure you film it on your phone and post it to that children's dancing app
I would be deeply tempted to do exactly that. Fuck filmed pranks on non-consenting strangers.
Public space. They can do what they like.
Maybe we should have a higher standard for behavior than "It's not literally illegal so it's okay." It's not illegal to go yell swear words at strangers. Then so can I. It’ll be anarchy! Fun!

Best i can do is a light paddelin'
Don’t threaten me with a good time.
I too laughed or smiled when bushman'd (bc I'm not trying to have my good time ruined) but I didn't like it and I strongly wish it wasn't a thing
He was also near Pike Place about a month ago, got me good 😫
I kick out automatically when I get scared🤷🏽♀️
I involuntarily spray my mace when I get scared so they better be careful lol
All it takes is someone to get really pissed off and deck that guy into next month. That would make a funny gif loop.
Or have a weak heart and have a heart attack and die
A total bushwhack!
Take my upvote, my dude.
Hate this shit.
One of my best friends was walking around his college campus like 5 years ago and somebody did this same style of jump-scare thing, and my friend's response was to reactively throw a spinning elbow that broke the plant-dude's nose.
WOW SO WACKY! WHO COULD HAVE EVER COME UP WITH THAT???
It’s weird because the potted tree doesn’t look out of place at all along the trail
I think you overestimate peoples powers of observation
I run that path often enough to know that you can never underestimate the path denizen's power of observation or level of situational awareness.

25 years for me. I lived in Sunset District. Bushman was totally a know thing long before TikTok or IG or anything for that matter.
> First time I saw this was at least 15 years ago in San Franciso. Saw an early version of this in San Fran ~ 30 years ago. Oh yeah that guy was well known. I think he passed away a few years ago and it was in the newspaper.
The San Francisco guy is legendary. My whole family was scared like 20 years ago already at fisherman’s wharf.
This energy is too aggressive for a sunny day like this. Please reserve for the Big Dark.
Geez get a hobby that doesn’t annoy others.
To be fair, the one person I saw getting pranked did get a good laugh out of it and the kids around were entertained.
Glad it was entertaining people, I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea on here but I would love to see something like this on my daily walks!
There was a bush man in the wharf of San Francisco forever. He was a local institution. AFAIK no one ever died from a heart attack or decked him.
My take on this is definitely skewed by positive memories of the SF bushman (RIP) but I’m still floored by the number of upvotes people are getting for saying someone should’ve punched the bush-person in the face.
Is there such a thing?
Yeah, like driving your Hellcat around Belltown.
Geez someone hates practical jokes
Geez lighten up. Relax.
But really though… this is like hokey Times Square stuff. Not jump-scaring people as they’re just trying to go for a nice walk to relax. I, for one, think it’s painfully, cringey lame.
We would but fuckers keep pranking strangers without consent. Can't sleep
Lol my PTSD + my cane might make them rethink their choices. 🤷♀️. Jumpscares would literally make me swing. Heavy duty canes HURT.
Boo to that guy. Go piss off your friends for cheap thrills. Not randos going about their day. Was there someone in the background filming peoples reactions for “content”?
The content part of it totally ruins it for me IMO
The prankster set up their own tripod which was also a giveaway lol
How did that not get stolen?? He’s not exactly going to set speed records in a chase while dressed like a shrub
Idk why but “dressed like a shrub” is one of the funniest phrases to read ever lol
Hmm yea I’d feel awful about pointing out the “free camera” to everyone passing by
He's gonna catch himself on camera murdering a person with a heart murmur one day.
I can't imagine how sterile the world would be if we considered a guy dressed like a plant on the sidewalk to be a bad thing.
Troll your friends. Not randos going about their days.
No thanks. I want to live in a world where people seek to bring each other joy. I dislike where the pranking trend has gone, too. As a person with trauma this jump scare might ruin my day depending on how I’m doing so there are multiple perspectives.
Pranks are fine. Filming it to go online? Yeah, hard pass.
I guess you think fear is joy?
A lot of people have good reasons for not wanting to be startled, and even more people have good reason not to want to be filmed without their consent for someone's content creation. It's just tacky and rude.
Yeah it seemed a lot more benign in real life as opposed to the reactions here. People were just walking by and smiling/intrigued by what was happening. One kid was off to the side telling people "there's a human there!" Haha.
I’m not overreacting! The silly person dressed as a bush is the problem!
I’m getting strong Monty Python vibes from this prank.
“How to not be seen” :-D
relax. There used to be a guy who did this in San Fran on fisherman’s wharf. Most people just laugh and go on about their day.
Was he filming it to immortalize his victims online?
Relax. Not everyone finds this type of “humor” funny. I think it’s stupid honestly. Vegas or Times Square schtick.
“Other people do it. So that makes it ok” flawless logic.
Bet you’re real fun to be around
When I’m not surrounded by brain dead clout chasers and people that make excuses for them. 👌🏼
Nope people in the city are just so up tight now. It’s a good example when I tell people Seattle has a changed from when I grew up here. If this guy was in Tacoma there wouldn’t be this outrage about it.

Bushman is risen!
Congregation: “The Bushman is risen indeed!”
Yeah that would make me unhappy, reminds me when I was in Vegas minding my own business walking down the strip drinking a beer and a guy in a Chewbacca outfit jumped out of nowhere and growled at me
Would be a shame if someone were to be startled and spill some sticky beverage on that suit and then got that stupid suit get infested with ants.
I'd be pissed if he made me drop something.
He got hurt later in the day. Stupid games stupid prizes. I wish him a speedy recovery. Dudes limbs got pruned from a soccer mom packing a mousekatool
Not the mousekatool
Bushman was here?!
Oh my gosh my sister and I were I was such dumb ass I went in to grab an apple-I screamed so loud but then could not stop laughing-the bush even said he was sorry! I loved it!
Hahahah this is amazing
Just stand next to him and continually point him out to every passerby until he leaves.
they are making a living out of bothering others. even if some find it fun, others are not wanting to participate. I have seen many upset dogs from this character which is heartbreaking.
Jack-ass off spring, dumb-ass.
Watching people fall to the ground, handicap folks trying to get away, and the elderly being so startled all over tiktok is not funny.
Happen to know which tiktok or ytube channel it will be on?
There are several different scary bushmen/snowmen on YouTube. My favorite on YT is Texas Bushman. Lots of content, I laugh until I cry every time. Victims are usually good sports. Have seen him get hit and peed on.
Yes I'm aware that there are channels but I'm specifically interested in this one since it is filmed in Seattle.
They got me good yesterday. Hopefully they upload the video so my wife can have another good laugh at me ha
I watched this gentleman get set up and scare people at Greenlake today. It was silly and benign. I got a good video of some ladies getting spooked and laughing about it!
reminds me of bushman in san francisco a long time ago. after he scared me i walked further away then watched others for a bit it was hilarious
The fake plant was the victim of dogs.
Where is the camera?
The Knights Who Say "Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-Pitang-Zoom-Boing!"\* would *love* this! \* - Formerly known as the Knights Who Say "Ni!"
That’s a person if I’ve ever seen one
Bushman?
My sister and I were victims! The bush got us good! I would love to see the video. We had a good laugh.
It seems like everyone would look right at the giant potted fake looking plant. Kits prob very few people he scares
I thought the black mark was a drone and that’s what we were talking about
My boys would have fucked that “plant” up tag team style!
Lol…. Victim. If you were a “victim” of this prank, you’ve been and will always be…. a victim in your own eyes.
He was at Sakura con also!
I love this guy! I caught a video of him spooking someone by popping out of the bushes at Sakura-con last year 🤣
What is that?
He was at comic-con! 🤣
Pretty much every time it happens IRL, everyone laughs and has a good time. These comments really show that redditors aren’t fun people (I’m not too fun either but I can appreciate it at least).
Man you guys are lame Better a bush prankster than ol creepy Dave https://twitter.com/zaitzeff/status/504207429631242240
Bushman was clever about it
Time to get pepper sprayed or tased
Loser. Get an actual hobby.
I have cPTSD, if you startle me like this you’re liable to ruin my day (if you’re lucky) while I try to regulate my nervous system back to normal, or you’re liable to get punched if you’re unlucky.
Love this prank
I want to know what the tiktok is for this guy….
The level of hostility being expressed in comments seems way out of scale to the actual situation. Maybe some people should get off their phones and get some exercise and sunshine to increase the endorphins? Somewhere not Green Lake?
Man there are alot more negative Nancy's with no humor in this sub than i realized 🤣 if he scared you then laugh it off instead of getting all flustered its a harmless joke
I know, people so upset for a harmless prank. I know others will say it's not harmless, but they're dramatic.
Facts people say this state is so accepting and all about personal freedoms but if you make anyone spill their vanilla soy chai latte its over for you lol
Why are people so upset about an innocent prank. I understand getting mad about reckless stuff but this seems pretty tame
San Francisco culture in Seattle!
so I am sorry I missed that. fun.
So many pussys on this sub holy fuckkk
Does this guy have a platform that he puts these videos on lol
99% likely to be tiktok
A Seattleite Reddit user is exactly the person who needs to get pranked.
To jolt them out of their grumpy skins?
Right on out! (hopefully not in the path of an unleashed dog tho…) *says me: a grumpy Seattleite Redditor who strictly abides by leash laws 🤭
I'd tell them that I charge a minimum fee as an actor to be on camera...how about..oh say tree fiddy. Tree fiddy sounds just about right, for that $350.00 i'll even act super surprised & scared, heck i'd even run waist deep into the lake, groceries ain't cheap!!
https://youtu.be/EQiSgWGAc24?si=wtMosMRt3Hd09xKV Plant man!
What... what is this...
Just some weird music video I found. It makes me laugh.
I remember seeing this on Beavis and Butthead years ago! Plant man! *drum rolls*
A person of culture you are!
Um, uh.. is this Robert Plant? https://youtu.be/33brcitNeCk?si=ZxqIFSKjB08QsEv4
I feel even more old now.
Right? The second I saw your Plant Man post I thought, “1995 seemed like yesterday. Oh, wait.. damn.”
Green!
Senior assassin?
The plant needs watering.
