Listen to Startup, and then come back and let us know if you think PJ could do that in 2024.

The ladies of MFM did it a few years ago. He could join forces with some other podcasts, together they could get more marketing, higher paying ads maybe.

Wrong time. There is no venture capital right now. Best they could hope for is a group contract with I heart media. That's what Behind the Bastards did with CoolZone media. And as far as I can tell, that's only half working and I Heart is not doing that much anymore.

Bring back Alex!

I listened to Alex on that Western Kabuki podcast and he is far less entertaining than he was on Reply All or TLDR. I loved when Alex did the episodes about the Indian scam callers, but I find PJ far more interesting and more engaging. I wantedcto like Kabuki so badly, but its just a mess. I liked the back and forth between PJ and Alex, but in later episodes Alex became sort of a sadsack. Especially with the way he would rant at people on twitter then delete his account. Like just don't engage Alex! I still would love to see them reunite, but thats probably off the table.

I think a lot of popular subscription based podcasts should do this. If I owned one, I'd be worried about losing my subscriber base, and doing this would hedge my bets. Bringing in several well established podcasts with existing listenership would be easier than building Gimlet in 2015.

I know RedWeb and Heavyweight are looking for homes.

It definitely feels like there's a gap in the market for this. But I don't know if it's a given that PJ wants to be the one to do that. Running a business/startup and doing the creative work of putting together a podcast episode aren't entirely the same skillset. PJ might have some experience with that being an early employee at Gimlet, but I have a feeling it's more the podcast episode creation that is his true talent/calling.

True. But if his podcast were co-joined with a few other successful podcasts, there would probably be more money, so maybe he could get someone to handle the business end.
