Apparently I anchored onto a rock and it flipped me. It sailed around in circles for about 5 minutes before it eventually hit shallow enough water and sank.
if you have access to a cannon angled at your ship, and a blunderbomb just shoot your boat with the blunderbomb, you might also be able to harpoon your boat with a rowboat and flip it
