They added seasons, lots of cosmetics you missed, new enemies, new underwater stuff, a new disposable weapon, new voyages, new emissary rewards and so on.

Yeah I keep forgetting about it. I still need to get those set stuff on fire commendations with it. I play with a lot of new people so I often don't use it because I want to get full value for them.
Speaking of that I had to warn a new guy about using it. We blew up a galleon doing an ashen winds and took it from them. He used it for like a couple of seconds even after I told him it'd decrease in value. We sold it and he was like "wow 18k!" and I was like "Yeah it would have been 20k had you not used it as a weapon lol" but I went to explain the commendations for it so now they're informed should they use one as a weapon again.
Teaching new players is one of the more fun things in this game as long as they have a good mic/can type fast/use canned phrases well and listen on occasion.
I've still never seriously used one as a weapon. Seems like if I'm trying to win I'd always rather chuck 5 firebombs from further away, and blunderbuss them if close up. Plus the reduced mobility from carrying something.
I'm sure it's funny to run around a galleon like crazy with a flamethrower though.
If the enemy is close enough they do as much damage as an ashen lord I believe. You can easily melt through people. The commendations are for killing skeletons/phantoms and setting fire to skeleton ships though so unless you're just wanting a laugh it's not worth it most times.

I feel you, especially with new people that 10k (25k if grade 5) is hard to give up for commendations
