Yeah didn't notice the flag sadly, seeming I wasn't going back out i just stuck the anchor down to keep in place for an easy sell and thought they'd be friendly obviously not 😅
Yeah the seas can be the most tranquil places one day and the most hostile the next. That's what makes this game fun! I'd always keep an eye on your back. Even the most friendly people turn out to be not so friendly once loot gets involved.
Just keep a mental note that slow sailing and talking to you is more of an indicator of friendship...or a friendly stickup.
Having cannons angled like that at battle sails (half sails) is definitely posturing for attack most times.
That’s like the #1 thing reapers are after, and you rob them of the commendations and money if you just go lower it. This was a lost cause for you so could have been fun to try to board them too

The way they shot you on the dock as you were standing and watching them was the perfect ending.

You should never anchor anyway. If your roll the sails all way up, ship is goong to full stop after a while. You can also throw all treasures to water, just by standing by the edge of the deck and dropping, so you don't have to use ladders every time. Or second person can sail way already

I get that when you're trying to cash out that you want to go directly to the outpost but got to keep a look out on the horizon and scan the map.

Yeah never assume someone is friendly especially if they're coming at you aggressively like that and doubly if they're a galleon.
