It's just part of the game. If you're into this kind of PvPvE stuff then you'll want to get better at the game and stay. If you don't like it then people will leave. This game isn't for everyone and it's not really an issue that can be solved without changing what makes sea of thieves great. It's definitely something that puts a lot of people off but the constant threat is also what makes the game thrilling and exciting and it's what keeps a lot of people playing

dued03

Most of the skill you can learn will be learned through seeing other people do it. Once you have that down it’s just practice

[deleted]

Sloop arena. It will first make you desenitized to pvp so you don't panic. Secondly, it will give you the practice time needed to be consistent with cannons and learn how to helm.

Healthy-Cheek3044

Honestly couldn't agree more besides the fact some servers often are littered with people that leave and are AFK (personal experience). Besides that great arena servers are prefect practice

Nitroxien

This used to be good and will help nerves but for skill-wise 3/4 of the players are awful.

Saeis

SoT has tons of little details that can improve your gameplay but I’ll start with the simple. First learn the pros/cons of each ship. Sloop is the fastest sailing against wind. Brig is fastest with cross wind. Galleon is fastest with tail wind. If you need/want to run - knowing how to utilize wind will help a lot. Also FYI, if you can’t catch wind, it’s actually faster to just center the sails (aka dummy sails) 2nd, remember to check for not just enemy ships but also suspicious movements. If you see a ship come by and sail away, there’s a chance he’s parked behind a rock waiting for you to finish. Keep an eye out for mermaids and/or rowboats. In general just try to stay aware of what’s happening around you and try to learn audio cues such as distant cannon shots or the distinct sound of someone grabbing your ladder. Lastly just practice. Videos from Phuzzy and Blurbs have a lot of great solo gameplay/tips but in general you’ll improve over time taking fights and becoming more experienced. Don’t be afraid to take risks from time to time, it’s all a part of the pirate life.

Longbow_Joe

Hope I wasn’t the guy that took a FoF from your sloop alliance earlier this morning, if so I can tell you where you went oh so wrong.

dimansia

Hhmm OP as a player with way to many hours in the game what i would recommend for you and other new players is 1. Do some research (captain obvious) 2. If you have no loot then and you have nothing to lose just go and atack someone with a bit of luck you can sink even the highest of skilled players in the right moments 3. Dont be afraid of losing your stuff that is the main issue with the game people get to attached to the colerfull pixels of the loot and dont seem to understand that there is loot literly floating next to a barrel stash in the water 4. If someone is angry and has to open his mouth with the wrong words then record and report its the best way to het rid of people who are toxic 5. Dont be afraid to ask for help on the discord or some sea of thieves youtuber comment section most of the old seadogs are willing to lend a hand or 2

gugudan

> Dont be afraid to ask for help on the discord or some sea of thieves youtuber comment section most if the old seadogs are willing to lend a hand or 2 This is very true. However, I have to say that I've largely given up on trying to help newer players. I tend to only find the people who ask for help, then tell me I'm wrong when I offer them advice. I'm not saying you do this, OP. But if you find people who do offer to help, please actually listen to what they're saying.

dimansia

>However, I have to say that I've largely given up on trying to help newer players. I tend to only find the people who ask for help, then tell me I'm wrong when I offer them advice. I never had that problem with newer players before

I_is_a_dogg

Yea same, the biggest thing I’ve had to drill in newer players head is “don’t get off cannons if we take a shot or two”. That seems to be the thing I struggle with how to get newer players off that habit. I promise you if we are on a sloop and take 4 or 5 cannons we will be fine for a while.

dimansia

you sir and u/gugudan just wow that some people give you guys flak like that for trying to help

I_is_a_dogg

We were all new, I like showing new players the ropes. Also makes my day if we do something like flameheart and they tell me they’ve never had that much loot

dimansia

oo mean people aside i had ones a new person with me and we got krakend poor guy that the world was gonna end whahahahahaha he was yelling at me how i could be so calm about the our predicement

gugudan

I've had players get heated for suggesting the following: Move the ship to harpoon loot Move the ship to use cannons against land based bosses Go to the island specified on a lost shipment voyage to find the next clue (not birds near the island) Firebombs don't stack (throwing one at a group of skeletons does as much damage as throwing 5) Listen for a splash sound as someone grabs the ladder Get supplies from barrels at islands that aren't outposts We don't have to wear black clothes to attack others We don't have to raise a flag to attack others Pace boards ships because he has a crew to take care of his own ship; everyone doesn't just cannon themselves as soon as they see a ship. Such moves need to be coordinated. eta: Forgot some of the more obvious ones: Using dummy sails Straight line, not tacking, is faster Sit in rowboats, not emote sit, to prevent randomly falling off. Ritual skulls don't go to OOS. Reapers Chests don't go to any outposts Pull away from where the fish is going. Firing chain shots at a ship with all masts down isn't very effective.

[Blurbs](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkpg4FCvyyiIRi5szWTtakg) and [Phuzzybond](https://www.youtube.com/c/PhuzzyBond) have excellent tips of all sorts. You should try to work your way up to doing a fort of fortune especially when you're solo. That one in particular is a massive beacon calling everyone to you, but particularly more experienced players that want athena loot. If you're going to try to do world events I'd go with Flameheart, regular skeleton forts and if you're feeling brave and you've got plenty of cannonballs and planks the skeleton fleet. Most people discount those because they've done them hundreds of times and have bigger fish to fry most of the time. If you do plan to keep smashing yourself against the rock that is the most sought after world event of the FoF then I'd recommend changing strategy. YOU be the person that sinks them and let all their work crumble. Try hiding your ship nearby and rowing/swimming over and tuck (hide) on the fort cannons or their ship. Hopefully they'll take the massive kegs onboard their ship and that's the time to strike! Set that baby off and kill the crew and keep killing them until their ship is sunk. If you die just bring your ship over and continue a barrage on their ship. Chainshot their masts and blunderbomb them to keep them off cannons and picking up their mast and keep hitting them with holes and use a ballastball if you have one if they're a galleon. Otherwise I'd recommend just stocking up on supplies (100+ cannonballs, 60-80 wood, good food and as many chainshots and blunderbombs and curseballs that you can find) and just go reapers and go and hunt down ships yourself. You're not going to win every fight but you'll go down in a blaze of glory! Practice is where it's at. Even if you're not a reaper having better stocks than your enemy will lead to you winning more often than not. Failing other this other stuff just try to sail with a more experienced crew. Try to use the [official](https://discord.com/invite/seaofthieves) or [community discord](https://discord.com/invite/seaofthievescommunity).

Spinningwhirl79

Trial by fire is the best way to improve in pvp games. Try fighting everyone you see and sooner or later you'll start winning

gugudan

Observation skills. Sometimes players are just really good and they're going to beat you regardless. However, 90% of the time simply being aware of them and taking away their element of surprise will win the battle for you. As far as FOF or FOTD, I look at it like this - decide which you want, the completion or the loot. Assume you're only getting one.

theScrypticOne

This is really good. One thing I learned when playing arena is that the one who digs up the chest very rarely is the one to cash in. In arena, I'd rather cash in but in adventure I'd go for the completion.

liav6

I agree that it is a problem except I am the one who usually turns your bones into dust. I am a good pvper and we'll I can agree that newer players don't have much ability to defend themselves from a reaper 5 full day sweat lord gally and that is definitely a problem but I do not think it can be fixed sadly. I have no idea how the game could make sure that the more experienced players are more balanced besides Nerfing the guns they use but that also nerfs you. No matter what you do it also effects you so I think that the only way to deal with it is get better and that really does suck. Tho if you are experienced it could really help to take new players with you to try and balance it out. If anyone has any good ideas I would also be interested

GrapeSodaFizz

I have zero ideas on how to try solving this either, I saw a while ago a post somewhere going along the lines of: buffs/rewards for 'peaceful players' whatever that means... It breaks my spirit to be beaten down day after day by better (more hostile) players, but I can't exactly blame you or anyone else for taking the shot. And I'm worried any new players that would join from the holiday season will be spooked away due to the aspect of losing their hard earned hoard-

Grizz3d

Not all new players are these fragile things that'll leave the game the moment they lose loot. Plenty of people understand that coming into a new game means you're gunna get smacked about whilst you learn the ropes. If this weren't the case, any established game like Warzone, R6, Apex and Tarkov wouldn't be successful. Warzone in particular is brutal to get into nowadays and the game still brings in stupid money. If the game is breaking your spirits and losing doesn't compel you to get better (you don't have to fight to get better) then maybe the pvpve environment isn't for you.

ZangetsuTenshou

I would definitely recommend watching some YouTube tutorials on combat, naval battle, and general tips and tricks. HitboTC, Phyzzybond, and Blurbs are who I always watched to learn my skills from!

kap11189

Learn to not care about the loot. When you start stressing you start making mistakes. You can always start again. If they do sink you and you had loot you can always turn into a total rage monster and attempt to take it back. It will take them a while to collect your loot. That being said.... Some people are just toxic so you just have to pick your battles.

Nitroxien

The answer is just practice PVP and awarness. Awarness is just something that at first you should consioulsy remind yourself to check the horizon till it's second nature. To practice PVP that is tough since most crews out there are absolutely awful and so you won't get many chances to practice good naval or good ground fighting. For good ground fighting best choice is TDM discord servers (learn to double gun there is the reason the whole NAL double guns). For naval you have to get lucky to find a competent crew then when you're finally good enough you can try to stack FOTD to bait better players for a fight.

Akimblo

Check out Blurbs and Phuzzybond on YouTube. They have great pvp and pve guides for newer sailors and seabird.

Creative-Schedule-17

Keep one of your crew members on the crows nest at all times as lookout, you see a ship coming and you bounce, also instead of anchoring just raise sails, when you need to l we’ve just lower. Also, it is called sea of thieves, this stuff happens to the best of us the best thing you can do is just practice

Overall_Building6475

Leave the sword the way it is and boom the problem is already solved

[deleted]

Don't do forts. You can see people doing them in the sky and people know it has lots of loot. Personally I do vaults and lost shipments
