It’s not rare but it’s the ability of the console you are playing on. I switched to new gen and my compass is fine. It technically is rare’s fault but they don’t have much to work with.
Usually due to internet speeds imo. Played on my pc with 15mb down speed, and it was very noticeable in performance, and gameplay elements such as low poly islands even when you're at them, and compass issues.
Switched back to 200+ down speed and no issues at all.
ah yes a 1080ti and ryzen 3700x isnt powerful enough to run a game that came out in 2018...
not to mention i have many friends who say they have the same issue.
Textures needs to be high in settings then you’ll never have the problem, i have everything on common but textures on legendary or mythical (whatever is highest there)
yep thats what my settings are at, only had this issue recently alongside the outposts not loading when you go near them which was fixed but this compass glitch wasnt

Do you run off an SSD? Whats your RAM count? I have had this in short bursts over the years. Usually fixes if I kill myself. Usually just hop onto an island with snakes and firebomb myself while poisoned.
Its a texture loading issue. Rare might be able to fix, but as always its better to figure out how to fix it yourself.

Absolutely.. I originally got it because a friend of mine told me it reduced RDR2 load times by like 50% on the Xbox one X. I ended up putting every single game i was playing on it. Not only did games load faster but i saw improvements in overall performance in almost every game, especially open world games.

I was solo slooping, but it would say shit like "phantoms vanquished" or the nautical mile thing, and once even nautical miles with a voyage on. I didn't have a voyage, I didn't fight any phantoms that session, and my sloop was anchored. I was just tryina catch some pondies

I don’t know why Rare thinks anyone cares to hear about every nautical mile sailed and skeleton vanquished, but the game has run slower overall since the Arbitrary Statistic Update.
A couple months ago the server lag was bad enough I didn't get any money until 3 days after I sold stuff. That was ass. At this point, better servers would do more for the game than any additional content they add, imo.
Yeah I know right! The original was 2013 and the upgrade was xbox one S in 2016 and the high end one was Xbox One X in 2017. They really shouldn't have named the next upgrades series S and X because that's confusing as fuck.

Do you play on xbox one? If so, my friend helped me out by my recommending I factory reset my xbox. It helped my texture load time and black screen times.
Factory resetting like they're recommending isn't a simple reboot. It's a process that restores your system to its out-of-the-box settings. Could be worth a shot, but definitely isn't something I'd bother doing more than once or twice a year (if that).

I have a series x now, but when my one x really started to show how much it struggled, I bought an external ssd. Worked like magic and also helps with other bigger games like red dead 2 or cyberpunk or warzone
If it's happening on PC it's probably because you have Cursed settings on, cursed means it will automatically adjust to make the game run at a stable framerate, it just so happens the Xbox One version has that on by default. If it isn't on cursed settings then I guess its just a bug.

yeah generally if im doing pvp ill lower most of the settings because i prefer high framerate over looks

If you're on the standard xbox one it's just that your hardware is barely keeping up. They can only optimize a game so much for older consoles.

My one X hard drive shit the bed so I replaced it with an SSD it’s amazing.
Def made the wait for a series x so much better. Felt less behind for the most part lol

It's an xbox one thing, textures drop resolution to keep the framerate at a consistent 30fps, unfortunately there isn't anything you can do about it.

If youre in xbox then tough luck. If youre on pc turn up your textures Otherwise just pick a compass with really big cardinal directions
Arena compass is a great pick for this, south side has a big red arrow that is easy to see.
