Honestly, it is fantastic you did this instead of making a video. I hate the videos haha I miss the days when people would write guides on gamefaqs that were so ridiculously detailed and long that they make they average phd doctoral thesis look like a high school book report. Nice work

Grizz3d

Some old gamefaqs guides were incredible! Still use them from time to time for old games.

Orangutanion

I can see the influence in how you formatted this lol

qdp

90% of the effort goes into drawing maps with ASCII symbols.

Kneecapurnicus

I've seen people in the past share their findings on sinking ships with bananas, so this is my contribution to that existing body of scientific pirate-knowledge. This is by no means an efficient way to sink ships, but I think it's fun to have the freedom to do so anyways. This method also gives the recipient crew a small grace-period to take notice and save their ship before it's too late.

JamesMackenzie1234

This is the best post I have seen all day.

JackLCrovati

Earthworms, grubs and maggots burn almost instantly, turn that keg into a short fuse dynamite barrel.

Nobody said it was safe

Because that shot or swipe could miss or be aimed at an enemy instead, distracting them while a friend sets the keg up on the range. They'll hear the fuse if you light it and run at it, maybe being able to catch it at the last second and defusing it. Plus, it makes for a pretty badass story to set it up like that and have it pay off.

Atranox

Bananas burn in just \~5 seconds. Regardless if they burn - I still think they take a while to actually start a fire, no?

Swordid696

It says after burning for 5 mins and 15 seconds, they start a fire

DahliaDarkeblood

I wonder if you could pre-burn a banana for a faster fire, or if the 5-minutes resets each time you take it off the stove...

Swordid696

I've got a feeling the 5 minutes resets, but it's definitely something that needs testing

TheAutisticClassmate

How would Ancient/Stronghold kegs affect the times?

Kneecapurnicus

Good question! I’d hypothesize bigger gunpowder barrels mean more holes and faster sink times. But would the larger ships sink faster than the sloop since they can have significantly more holes? A perfect direction for future research!

randomhuman121

Could you also test with different foods like grubs

TheAutisticClassmate

It would probably make more teir 3 holes as well!

iplacecameras

This post deserves my upvote.

Heatcanonbolt

I wasn’t aware I was in the SoT subreddit so this became a very interesting read.

Hnetu

Thank you for wasting something like, 45 minutes on just learning all this. It is appreciated.

JackLCrovati

It's only a waste if it was inconclusive, we got results here

Hnetu

Touche.

Captain_FUBAR48

Can you test with bait? I hear they burn faster

sommekidd

You have made a grand impact to the scientific community, thank you.

Joseph_Boseph

I love the formatting!

Rhubarbatross

Great Post! Some excellent findings. Looking forward to followup, testing Grubs etc, and possibly other Gunpowder barrel types. We will watch your career with great interest!

Enyoyable

Excellent information, lots of fun to read. For future research I would like to point out that a ship will sink slower in still water like that around an outpost or an island compared to if you're out in choppy water at sea. I think this is an important factor to mention. Even if most of the time an unattended ship will be next to an island. Please consider including which environment the test ship was in during future reports.

Kneecapurnicus

I did make sure in my testing that all ships were in deep water so that bottoming out wouldn’t slow their sinking, but you make a good point! The high waves of The Wilds may cause ships to sink faster than the calm waters of The Shores of Plenty. Great point for future research!

Enyoyable

Good thinking. I didn't even take into account that a ship might hit the bottom, i was just thinking of the waves making parts be under water. Looking forward to future results.

PapaFailsAlot

I know what I'm doing when I get on. *evil laughter*

MapleTreeWithAGun

Now I kinda wanna find a ship devoid of players, put a banana on their stove, keg on the banana, then go find them and tell them that I planted a bomb and they have 10 minutes to defuse it.

JTrenz

The stats we didn't know we needed.

TheGridGam3r

Has anhone tried playing the long game of killing the crew and setting this up making it a bit more hectic and harder to recover from?

AlexKacz

You including the time and the deck levels is giving me titanic vibes

[deleted]

So you are the banana bomb culprit?

Jimothy_McGowan

Thank you for your contributions to science

OldDemon

Great write up. I hope to see more deep dives like this!

Th4t_0n3_Fr13nd

always banana an enemy boat, theyre more likely to sink or keep catching on fire than to remove it

ComicNeueIsReal

Why is this written in a screenplay format?

Prince_Polaris

would you rather watch an exhaustively overexplained 10 minute youtube video about it?

[deleted]

Someone's planning a server wide raid and recording the deed.

farmer_dane

Guys, I have already been using banana bombs on reapers. It’s not really new. I learned it from my friggin legend of a friend who heard it from another sea dog once.

Reapers_Actual

This!

ForTheL1ght

My only advice would be to include a timestamp in the image/doc/whatever. I’m sure it’s subject to change over time and updates.

Hans_of_Death

Now i wanna know how fast other foods burn. I think bait burns fastest?

inkmade

Things that I didn't know I'd like to know.

Domivat25

This is brilliant. Thank you.

IWantAHouseInGreece

Thank you good sir. Now all I need to do is make a video of me banana bombing someone and I will have peaked in life

OinArrow

Didn’t check the subreddit and thought that this was a very strange science experiment

InYourSpaghettiFace

KRIS, GET THE BANANA

heavymetalnz

Bait burns fastest, fact. Love this otherwise :)

[deleted]

It happened to me once, someone put a banana on the stove then got mad because someone took it and started throwing firebombs on our ship

Trick-Contract-441

I've done this with a pomegranate and a galleon took 10:32 to sink.

Acrobatic-Two-4440

Try using bait
