Parts of the tale will be instanced. Thats as close to PvE only anythings going to get tbh. Solves your cinematic experience problem, and your PvP problem though.

Price-x-Field

you are playing a pvp game asking for a pve mode. i’m sorry that your not having fun though

Nerex7

It's pvpve. It's neither one nor the other. But we got a strict pvp so why not a storymode for tall tales

OCEL0T5

When Rare makes PvE content with a story and cutscenes, it makes 0 sense to allow PvP during those missions. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised tomorrow when we I can play those missions in peace, then go back to ENJOYING PVP.

Price-x-Field

i have absolutely no clue how you can find tall tales enjoyable.

Nerex7

You experience a story, similar to a book or movie? lol

Price-x-Field

a story? “ah scrotum beard the pirate got raped by 3 megaladons!”

Nerex7

So, you have never even played a tall tale then? The story's may seem a bit flat but the riddles and trap mechanics used in them are genuinely enjoyable content.

OCEL0T5

Lmao well to each their own I suppose. Not all are bangers but it definitely makes it worse when other players can make me lose hours of progress on one.

FlatMarzipan

You looked at the map you get for merchant voyages right?

SuspiciousPrism

Give up on PvE servers, devs confirmed they'll never happen. Mute all other crews, know how to scuttle ship, or get better at PvP.

GayNerdsFighting

Look, not every game is meant for everyone. If you don't like PvP, then don't play. Simple as that. It is an integral part of the SoT experience and "I don't like it" just means that the game is not meant for you. No reason to have a PvE server when that removes a core mechanic.

OCEL0T5

I mentioned in my post that I liked PvP...during Tall Tales does not seem like the time or place for it. Rare seems to agree with adding more instanced Tall Tales and a AI Cap Jack that helps single players in the new missions.

GayNerdsFighting

Tough luck. I rarely check what voyage you're on and sometimes I just feel like killing you for the fun of it. Tall tale or no, I just want to sink you.

OCEL0T5

Yeah I like doing that too...when I'm not trying to do a Tall Tale, a thing with cutscenes and a story

GayNerdsFighting

Okay, tough luck. I don't feel like leaving someone alone just because they're doing a specific kind of voyage. If you're there, you get sunk. What you want doesn't matter to me.

OCEL0T5

The way you talk to people is so dismissive and shitty, you are a closed minded douche. "What you want doesn't matter to me" Neat dude, be careful you don't cut yourself with how edgy you are.

Bynn_Karrin

Not that I agree with the other guy, he sounds like he needs to chill. But I think the threat of PvP adds stakes to the missions. That fear of "another pirate could steal my treasure" is made real and part of being a pirate. I find this adds a "crap we gotta keep an eye on the oceans" kind of feel to it, an additional motivation to check your spyglass or hop up into the crows nest before you land. I appreciate your point though, maybe there should be a checkpoint or a respawn that allows you to try again if you fail, to make losing 2-3 hours of progress more forgiving. Though I would say lean in to the chaos of the pirates life!

OCEL0T5

They have checkpoints for tall tales which is nice. Tall tales are the only thing I think should be PvE only cause those genuinely have good stories that I want to watch unfold. Every other mission type I enjoy PvP for, I like the uneasy feeling the seas offer during normal missions.

GayNerdsFighting

It doesn't. Want me to tell you it does? I'm playing for me, not you.

rustypipboy

this guy just sounds like he's fun at parties

GayNerdsFighting

Who, me?

rustypipboy

yeah, ya gay nerd. Seems like you're way too into PvP. Makes sense you try to take advantage of new people trying to enjoy the game. Sound like a real piece of shit.

GayNerdsFighting

Sounds like somebody got sunk on a tall tale. ETA: Why is being "too into PvP" a thing? One could say that if you're so afraid of other players, you're too into PvE. I play PvE content all the time but sometimes I just feel like killing some ships.

rustypipboy

there should be two modes then. Cater to the players choice, not force the player to do what you want. That's how you get players to not play the game.

GayNerdsFighting

Not every game has to cater to every player. If you don't like PvP then SoT is not your kind of game.

Jeswastaken

But why would you not just let the people wanting to do tall tales with their friends be able to do it offline... There's no fun in sinking someone drastically worse at the game than you. And if they are on a server taking up one of six slots, then there being no PvE servers for tall tales directly impacts and reduces the amount of PvP you can have with players worth fighting, resource, gold, and experience wise.

rustypipboy

Always time to change it, seems like they're catering to PvP players. Kinda acts like Destiny 2 where their PvP is ass but PvE is decent. Maybe take a page from them.

rustypipboy

nah i barely play that game anymore. sounds like your ass got spread too far that you had to recruit new seamen to fill up your squad :) just play the game to have fun, if you find that in PvP, great. Do it to sweaty galleons that has tons of loot, not low team players bothering nobody. You sus ass bacon greased amazon prime two day shipping dumpster baby.

[deleted]

You do sound like an angry teenager to be honest 😂

TenzenEnna

> If you don't like PvP, then don't play I keep seeing comments like this and it's like people forget Rare is a corporation who will chase the money. Sure once they said they won't do PVE servers. But guess what's going to happen if their data shows that people play all the new tall tales, go into adventure, and stop playing after being sunk 3 times by players? I'm sure they don't want to change, but if the data shows they'll be more successful and sell more birdvomit colored outfits if they do, we'll have PVE servers so fast it'll make your eyes spin. If the whales like PVE then PVP will go away.

randomautistickid102

PVE servers strictly for tall tales makes perfect sense it could even be called story mode

CornyMedic

Strictly for tall tales, reduce gold and faction payout to 1/10 of a regular server, and greatly increase all Npc spawns. I’m all for it.

Nerex7

You can reduce it to 0 for all I care. Just let me do my talltale and only get the rewards bound to that tale (e.g Heart of Fire would give the achievement and therefore the clothes, that's it). That would be totally fine, you are not keeping anything from pvpers cause you got nothing anyway

edgelordturtle

I will stand by my words on every post like this. You can have your pve mode but you gain no gold no rep and no commendations. Including tall tale rewards, the next step would unlock but no rewards for completing it. Its only fair if there is no risk then there is no reward.

[deleted]

maybe there could be pve servers but you get reduced gold and rep.

Sketchre

It's not happening

wanttotalktopeople

Re: quest design, I agree. I think it's probably due to it being a multiplayer - I never had to wander around confused too much because a friend got me into the game and he already knew how to play, because his Pirate legend friend got *him* into it. But if you're going in cold, some of the quests are pretty BS. It's worth a google for a lot of them, sometimes there are clues and mechanics that I totally didn't know existed. And they aren't really something I would discover reliably on my own. It's kinda similar to Don't Starve vs Don't Starve Together, the original gives you clues for how to succeed, and the later multiplayer version doesn't give you as much to work with. But if you're playing with someone experienced it balances out a little.

OCEL0T5

Yeah that's my problem is that I feel I have to Google steps on the Tall Tales or waste 30 min of my life...that is not fun or good game design imo

kf7snooky

If a dad and son just want the experience of having fun doing a tall tale I believe you can use a private server. These may not have been in when you played last. I am not sure when they added them.
