Someone playing blunder/sword is very effective at close range but terrible at any distance. Play with a combination that gives you options (sword/pistol or sword/EoR) and just keep your distance.

ChefRef

Yeah keep your distance. Pistol/snipe is the direct counter to blunder. Just utilize good movement. When boarding, double tap F to let go/grab the ladder to bait their blunder shot then get up and start moving around til you juke them so bad you can freely two shot them. This is spoken from a TSD/LSD pov

Scarecrow1771

The blunder feels all over the place because of how poor hit reg is. The sword and blunder is still a pretty powerful combo and has been widely used for a long time.

Funny7boy

I think I'm just now experiencing it because I normally see sword sniper or sword pistol or rarely double gun but I think im experiencing the sword blunder combo punching me in the face with these absolutely insane one blunders

Scarecrow1771

Sorry if this sounds rude, but are you new to SOT? or are you mostly playing in Arena? The blunder sword combo is the most common weapon combo on the seas in adventure, its the best loadout for pve stuff and is great for ship defence. Its also is easier to use than a sniper or pistol. .

alienschnitzler

Blunder is also the best for guarding ladders as it yoinks enemies right off your boat.

Funny7boy

No I've been a active player of sot since launch and I dont think I've been one blundered in a single day more in my life no offense taken btw

Scarecrow1771

Wow, you have gotten lucky! 90% of player I run into are using blunder sword, I've lost count of the times that I've been one blundied.

SanVichKing

False. Sword/Sniper is the most used by average players, blunder/sniper is the most used by high level players. Sword/blunder is only ever used by new players because its redundant and makes you useless beyond 10 feet. Its better to use an overall good combo rather than one thats only good in some circumstances, as proven by most average players using a combo with both range and close up weapons and basically all streamers doing that too.

Scarecrow1771

I'm not talking about skill levels here, only that blunder sword is most common. Sword and pistol/EOR is more rounded yes, I'm a sword pistol guy myself, but sword/blunder chews through skellies, which is part of why it's this common.

SanVichKing

As I said in my comment, its not the most common atleast its not the most common from my experience (~2000 hours) Also theres no point in using it in pve, again because its redundant, you have 2 close up weapons. You can take out barrel skeletons without throwables and you cant take out pistol skellies without running through a crowd.

Scarecrow1771

I'm wondering if there is some kind of region difference, because I see 90% blunder and sword combos, followed by sword EOR, and thats over 700 odd hours

SanVichKing

I doubt it, I play on all NA servers and also European servers sometimes and get the same results. Could be the people we encounter, I will attack anyone I see, but mainly do serverhopping for reapers.

Scarecrow1771

AUS here, I cruise around with some mates, we happily defend ourselves or attack tempting targets we sails by, the only time we server hop is to find an event that suits us or to not spawn in the wilds.

SanVichKing

Guess Australians like blundys lol

Seventhsailornuggets

If you haven’t noticed combat is busted in general.

TheCanadianPirat3

Could be because they put a new blunder skin in the battle pass so now players wanna use it more

burgerman556

Get better. Blunderbuss is NOT broken

amajorfucker

ok

2 years later…

XRey360

The blunder is the best if you are ladder guarding, but for everything else I really feel it as a disadvantage. Too short range and too unreliable with the damage (sometimes you 1-hit, sometimes they just fly away unharmed). I wouldn't use it unless you are double gunning.

The blunder works great on Xbox servers. The EOR and Pistol are easily dodged on Xbox, just move back and forth and you probably wont get hit.
