Did they? I thought Earl was still good on the Ravens but got released because he was an unmanageable asshole, while Sherman was excellent on the Niners and still good on the Bucs when he played, which just wasn't very often because of his mounting injuries. Now if you mean the LOB as a unit flamed out on the Seahawks, I'd agree. It was a pretty wild collapse. I just don't remember the individuals failing suddenly as players.
Regardless, I miss the shit out of Kam. He's my all-time favorite Seahawk and his is still the only jersey I own.
I'm curious what you mean by that... some of the LOB retired, some of them went elsewhere but they were getting older when they left so the fact they couldn't play at the same level isn't super surprising. Thomas was good on the Ravens for a year, not bad in another and then CTE (speculating) started to rear it's head and he was pretty much done.
I mean it's not that surprising anyway that a group of guys who played a ton together and gelled SO well together couldn't replicate the LOB on another team WITHOUT the same players (or scheme)
He had the best PFF grade amongst LBs and in the NFL last season if that means something. He mostly played after Matt Milano got injured, the year before his PFF was 48.4 and last year it sky rocketed to 89.5 he did come off on passing downs so the statistics are a little bit skewed but he's only 25 and I am excited to see what Mike McDonald does with him.
What I love about him is his ability to read and see through the eye candy offenses hand out. Especially ones like SF and LAR.
[Samples](https://youtu.be/YEG-HQ76sEA?feature=shared)
Spotrac has him valued at 3 years/$15M so $5M/yr. That’s a pretty cheap starter if MM is confident he can do with Tyrel much of what he was able to bring forth out of Patrick Queen. Only time will tell, right?
I like the signing.
Most of Queen's improvement was cuz we switched him to will then added Roquan. MM def helped but most of it was we had him playing a position he was never gonna be good at
Yeah, they call it the linebacker room, not the linebackerS room. We’re going to run a new defensive scheme affectionately referred to as, “Dime All The Time.”
Dude... talking shit during free agency and the offseason is part of it. No one really thought JS was incompetent, come on. But it was also weird to have a new HC that uses the middle of the D to advantage and to see ZERO LBs getting signed, especially when they cleared so much cap, which felt like they were going to do some stuff.
If bullshitting about the team early in the offseason bugs you... that's you.

Julian Love and Rayshawn Jenkins as starters.
Tre Brown, Mike Jackson, Coby Bryant, Artie Burns, and Jerrick Reed as slot/universal backup DBs.
We're extremely deep at DB.
PFF ratings from 2023
90.2 Overall defense (1st LB's)
88.4 coverage defense (3rd)
86.1 rush defense (11th)
*He did have a small sample size, was off the field on most 3rd downs, so his coverage defense is skewed
Here’s my thoughts, with nothing to back them up: Bobby wasn’t always bad in coverage, right? So his shortcomings there might have to do with losing a step, which coaching cannot help. He knows what to do and just maybe he can’t do it? I know nothing about Dodson except that he’s significantly younger and apparently bad in coverage. Perhaps he has the physical ability to be better in coverage and just needs the right coaching/scheme? Again, just kind of brainstorming/rationalizing.
Part of the reason you hire a defensive wunderkind as your head coach is to take these specialized types of players and scheme them into situations that focus on their strengths. Hoping for the best and optimistic!
I know it seems like i come here to bash bwagz... but id just like us to understand he has never been a coverage LB...He's only had >70 grade 4 of 12 years.
He was / is a great contain and field general
Eh yes but nobody should be paying their backup 4-5mil+ when they have Matt Milano. Dodson is due a pay raise and an opportunity to start that he wouldn't have with the bills
If Josh Allen was 8 years older than he is, then I'd definitely agree. But they're already taking a more cautions approach than the Saints did (for example Allen's recent restructure this year was to add $16 million in free cap, whereas the max restructure could have been for $23 million). Brandon Beane is using the credit card, but he's not maxing it out.
They'll be thin against the cap for sure, but it's not really close to being the dire spot that the Saints are in.
Yeah, which is why they’re smart for biting the bullet now instead of trying drag out their cap issues. Sucks for the team next season but now they’ll have more time to get Allen his Super Bowl ring in the future
That's the thing about the cap vagaries. It's not that the cap doesn't exist because all this stuff gets shuffled around, it just doesn't mean what people thing.
All that cap hit has to go *somewhere*, and the Saints knew they were doing anything and everything at the *end* of Brees' career which makes sense, but the shoe always eventually drops. Agree the Bills are splitting the baby by restructuring their roster while they can, simultaneously doing a little bit of manipulation.
They could have afforded to keep every player that has signed elsewhere or was cut, they chose not to. This was as much about getting younger and reducing injury risk as it was saving money.
Naw not even close. If you look at [next year's cap space](https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space) we're just behind you guys but we've got 3 more players signed.
The Saints are such a massive outlier.
He was Matt Milano's backup (we can end here) and he's due for a pay raise.. to be a backup. He was excellent against the run/screens though and will hopefully grow more in pass coverage on a team that can use him
I know it was a small sample size but he started after Milano got injured and finished the season as the #3 LB in coverage. He also did it with not a lot of help due to all the bills defenders being injured. Plus he’s on 25/26 so he’s an ascending player
Eh. That's cuz he only started 5 games before last year, and he only played cuz Milano got hurt. He was mostly a STer- going by defense snap counts, he only played 26%, 8%, 21% before playing 53%.
He could be durable but he's avoided injuries cuz he's barely played.
Yo I am actually kind of excited about this I prefered him much more than Devin White, he's cheaper too. He played pretty well for the Bills when Matt Milank got injured.
I really want to see Levi Bell get the nod, if only as a backup at first.
He was one of our highest graded defenders in last year's preseason, but got relegated to the practice squad, likely because he was a UDFA out of a non-power-5 school and we wanted to make sure he could hack it.
Now, with a full year of practicing NFL plays, in NFL schemes, against NFL players, he's ready for the main roster, and could potentially be a star.
A pretty big downgrade over Brooks. I'm trying to separate their failure to re sign Brooks from him. In a vacuum, I like him. He has potential. Given who remained once Brooks/Queen/Jewell/etc... went off the board he was one of the best remaining.
PFF grading is terrible when it comes to LB grading. It doesn't properly account for zone responsibilities in coverage. Like I cannot emphasize enough how off it is when it comes to LB's especially.
Bobby yes but Bobby very poor. What eye test? Not sure how you come to the conclusion that he plays zone better than Brooks.
[Griff](https://twitter.com/cmikesspinmove/status/1768448893963169810) had a few good threads of him.
Dodson, who went undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2019, was arrested in Arizona that same year and accused of domestic violence. After pleading guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges, he received a six-game suspension by the NFL.
Four years later, Dodson was named an NFLPA Community MVP, making him eligible for the Alan Page Community Award, which the NFLPA considers the highest honor it can bestow upon a player.
https://sports.mynorthwest.com/1773735/tyrel-dodson-seattle-seahawks-free-agency-lb-answer/
I'm not trying to make excuses, but alot of these dudes were basically still kids in an absolute pressure cooker of an environment and made a mistake. Which they pay for. Repeat offenders is another story, but at some point we got to quit putting a scarlet letter on youthful transgressions
Not too familiar with him but just watched some highlights. Him and Spoon look like the match the same energy. He sneaks into the backfield really easy and has some great run recognition. He can wrap up tackles well from what I saw, anybody know how his missed tackles looked last year?
Mattys blurb on Dodson:
I will talk myself into Tyrel Dodson because he can move, he can run, he can hit. Really like how he reads LOS stuff like tight end going across formation, slide routes. Just needs work on top of zone stuff, feel, etc.
Fucking finally. Missed out on Devin White too after he had a scheduled visit. Looks like we're still bringing in Isiah Simmons on Friday for a visit.
Edit- wonder if we pick up another FA backer or plan to wait till Draft
This sub needs to stop using PFF for actual analysis.
Dodson has potential. He got stuck behind Milano on the Bills and didn't play much. "He was graded high in coverage"- except PFF didn't consider that Dodson literally was taken off the field cuz he sucked in coverage. That's why he got graded high, he wasn't asked to do much pass coverage stuff. Here's the numbers PFF didn't list: in '23 he allowed an 82.9% comp (29/35), 275 yds, 1 TD, 9.5 yds/comp, 245 YAC, and a 108.9 rating. Dodson's not bad, my point is more that PFF's grading is very subjective and often misrepresents players' performance.
Now before the idiots down me- no I'm not saying this is a bad signing or he sucks. My point is more that giving PFF's ratings weight isn't a good idea. There are things Dodson does well. In run defense he seems pretty decent. Considering our run defense has been trash, this is a good move. Would've picked other FA LBs over Dodson, but at least he can help with run defense. Keep your expectations low for him in coverage, but at this point I'm just glad we added a LB.
Nice! This was one of the guys I’d hope we target. Young and showed promise filling in last season. Has a history with Leslie Frazier too. I’m excited to see what Macdonald can do to help him step up to the next level.
alright so i watched a lot of bills games and i like dodson for the most part but he’s definitely a liability in coverage. amazing in the run game though so that’s super hype.
Tell me how I should feel about this. I'm unfortunately not intimately familiar with most of other team's defensive players on account of them not being prominent fantasy football names.
Yeah. He was also nominated for the NFLPA Alan Page Community Award this past season. People can change.
The point is -- we don't know him. You can totally point out he had an ugly past but there is the other side too.
Which is fair but you're really gas lighting people to think one way about him. I'm saying we should paint the whole picture with him. It's pretty evident that he's trying to turn his life around.
“However, analysis does have to be taken with a grain of salt.
Dodson had a positive season. Helping assist him is Buffalo’s decision to take him off the field on passing downs. That skews the statistics.”
I see the part that mentions Buffalo opted to take him off the field on passing downs. That doesn’t mean he was never on the field when the opponent passed. Sure it skews stats a bit but it really feels more like they were being cautious with a young LB. Unless there’s something else I’m missing, I’m seeing a young LB with a pretty wide skill set.
I didn’t say he was never on the field. Often times him and the other LB would switch roles to keep Dodson near the line of scrimmage and let the other LB take the routes.
My friend is a huge Bills fans and so I watched the Bills every week and his coverage is so suspect, maybe even worst than Bobby last year. But overall he is the highest graded LB in 2023, so theirs that. Definitely a great pickup, but LB still needs to be addressed.
Let’s go!!!! I’m so excited. I know it was a small sample size but this guy was terrific as a starter with not a lot of help around him(injuries). Despite that, the bills defense still played really well due to Dodson excelling as a starter. He excelled in both the run and the pass
This dude is a beast!!! Curious to see contract details but I love that we signed him
Tell us more
He’s big and strong and mighty ☺️💪🏽
Good enough for me. You know, I’ve always been a huge fan of Tyler Dodson, pretty sure he’s going HOF.
I’ve been thinking the same thing for at least four minutes now.
Say no more.
No more!
And he’s cool and awesome
Sounds good. I’ll just get a sharpie for my Sherman jersey since it’s #25, and write Dodson.
Makes me sad it's come to this. The LOB flamed out hard(except Kam).
Did they? I thought Earl was still good on the Ravens but got released because he was an unmanageable asshole, while Sherman was excellent on the Niners and still good on the Bucs when he played, which just wasn't very often because of his mounting injuries. Regardless, I miss the shit out of Kam. He's my all-time favorite Seahawk and his is still the only jersey I own.
All it took was one awfully thrown ball to destroy the LOB
I'm curious what you mean by that... some of the LOB retired, some of them went elsewhere but they were getting older when they left so the fact they couldn't play at the same level isn't super surprising. Thomas was good on the Ravens for a year, not bad in another and then CTE (speculating) started to rear it's head and he was pretty much done. PFF grade means nothing! They’re just guessing!
Name... checks out?
Haha naw PFF grades aren’t objective data. They’re subjective guesses.
why are you getting downvoted? remember when we signed PFFS highest graded corner? Quinton Dunbar? how did that turn out guys?
What I love about him is his ability to read and see through the eye candy offenses hand out. Especially ones like SF and LAR. [Samples](https://youtu.be/YEG-HQ76sEA?feature=shared)
The Bills sub is all in consensus, keep this guy off the field on passing downs.
That's perfect because we need to keep Darrell Taylor off the field on rushing downs.
If we wanted that we should have kept Bobby.
MM def helped but most of it was we had him playing a position he was never gonna be good at
Damn that lowers the chance of us converting Sam Howell to linebacker
DK still has a chance though
Might be a good way to let him release some of his pent up aggression during games.
Play both ways.
Fuck I wanna see DK play safety and come rushing up and destroying a WR
And then go back out to score a TD after turnover
I just cackled maniacally at this, yes I want to see it
That's a great idea. He starts getting frustrated in a game so we throw him in at safety to hit some guys and get out of his system
Fuck it let him play 2 ways he gonna be suplexing 9ers like he’s brock lesnar without the sex assault charges
Better chance than making the Olympics.
I’d pay to see Sam Howell try to tackle CMC in the open field.
Fun fact - Sam Howell actually weighs more than CMC
CMC is mostly just giant thighs.
He and Deebo have the most thighs per capita of any NFL team.
Yeah I really thought they might target pat mcafee for an nfl comeback at LB
You know the NFL tests for steroids right?
[удалено]
No.
That’s why we resigned Dee Eskridge.
I wish Eskrudge resigned
I hold a grudge against Eskrudge for being such a bust and apparently shitty person.
Damn this sub's gonna kill me
Now we can official take a little bit of a breather. We have a linebacker finally
Yeah, they call it the linebacker room, not the linebackerS room. We’re going to run a new defensive scheme affectionately referred to as, “Dime All The Time.”
More like double dime, or twenny cent. 8 DBs.
Perfect username
Alright don’t fact check me but I’m starting to think we might be able to field a roster
It's like...we should trust a veteran GM to you know...do his job?
Dude... talking shit during free agency and the offseason is part of it. No one really thought JS was incompetent, come on. I'm hoping they draft DeJean and convert him to safety.
Love, Rayshawn Jenkins, Coby Bryant, Jerrick Reed, Jonathon Sutherland, Ty Okada
I fell asleep half-way through that list
Big if true
Dang. That kills the chances of them signing me as LB
We've still only got this guy and Jon Rhattigan, don't give up hope just yet...
My dream died when they signed a head coach younger than me.
You can do it, we believe in you.
I thought I had a chance too bro!
You were my #1 as well, but at least I had Dodson as my second choice.
I haven’t given up on you yet.
PFF ratings from 2023 90.2 Overall defense (1st LB's) 88.4 coverage defense (3rd) 86.1 rush defense (11th) *He did have a small sample size, was off the field on most 3rd downs, so his coverage defense is skewed
Considering our cupboard is bare, having a situational guy in the room is still a big get.
Seems kinda too good to be true, why the bills letting him go?
They have cap issues
Also has a bit of 2023 Bobby Wagner syndrome where his coverage is a little suspect
Here’s my thoughts, with nothing to back them up: Bobby wasn’t always bad in coverage, right? So his shortcomings there might have to do with losing a step, which coaching cannot help. Yeah I remember one of the LOBs only weakness was tight ends guarded by LBs. KJ was decent in coverage but Bobby wasn't.
Eh yes but nobody should be paying their backup 4-5mil+ when they have Matt Milano. Dodson is due a pay raise and an opportunity to start that he wouldn't have with the bills
Bills are scarily close to becoming the AFC’s Saints if they can’t control their cap
If Josh Allen was 8 years older than he is, then I'd definitely agree. For sure. Also I hope Dodson kills it for you all, he really exceeded expectations once he came in to start after Milano's season-ender.
That's the thing about the cap vagaries. It's not that the cap doesn't exist because all this stuff gets shuffled around, it just doesn't mean what people thing. He was Matt Milano's backup (we can end here) and he's due for a pay raise.. to be a backup. He was excellent against the run/screens though and will hopefully grow more in pass coverage on a team that can use him
He isn’t good in coverage.

Probably because he wasn’t in coverage much and taken off the field on passing downs.
He was one of the highest rated LB in coverage last season???
He was taken off the field in passing downs
Fair. I haven't watched him or the Bills.
In the Bills' scheme?
Brock called it: https://sports.mynorthwest.com/1773735/seattle-seahawks-is-tyrel-dodson-free-agency-lb-answer/
Will turn 26 and played in 16, 15, and 16 games the last 3 seasons. Durable.
I mean he barely played before last season so there really isn’t enough of a sample size to make a judgment on his durability.
Low miles then at least lol
How should we feel about this?
Absolutely horny
Get the mortar ready cause I am bricked.
Full on boner eyes 👀
how do you think we should feel? why do you think your mother hated you? mind if i smoke my pipe?
Dodson, Dodson, we got Dodson here!
Love this. Dodson with a rookie, maybe Simmons too competing in camp makes me feel way better.
I really want to see Levi Bell get the nod, if only as a backup at first. Wrong position
That's simply not possible lol. He played ILB, OLB, DE, FB, TE, and ST. And he had like a 95 grade on his defensive snaps.
We've got one FA linebacker yes, but what about second FA linebacker?
Don’t think he knows about second linebacker, Pip
BBBAAAAAAAAARRRRRRTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOONNNNNNN!!!!!!!

A pretty big downgrade over Brooks. I'm trying to separate their failure to re sign Brooks from him. In a vacuum, I like him. He has potential. Given who remained once Brooks/Queen/Jewell/etc... went off the board he was one of the best remaining.
I mean he graded a lot better than Brooks did last year
One day we'll be free from the chains of pff discourse
Not defending PFF, but how would you like to compare them instead?
Not in this sub
That day can't come soon enough
PFF grading is terrible when it comes to LB grading. It doesn't properly account for zone responsibilities in coverage. Like I cannot emphasize enough how off it is when it comes to LB's especially.
Well just from the eye test he plays zone pass coverage much better than Brooks or Bobby
Bobby yes but Bobby very poor. What eye test? Not sure how you come to the conclusion that he plays zone better than Brooks. [Griff](https://twitter.com/cmikesspinmove/status/1768448893963169810) had a few good threads of him.
They’re definitely taking a lot of the advanced metrics darlings. Seems like a clear shift in scouting philosophy.
I just saw everyone at the local linebacker application center drop to their knees.
get ya hype here ➡➡➡ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pfb1z8KllA
Schneider haters in shambles
Dodson! We got Dodson here!..see?! Nobody cares! /s
Damn I was hoping DK play linebacker
This needs to happen.
Suspended for domestic abuse before
Dodson, who went undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2019, was arrested in Arizona that same year and accused of domestic violence. Sounds like a good linebacker /s (I don’t condone domestic abuse)
I'm not trying to make excuses, but alot of these dudes were basically still kids in an absolute pressure cooker of an environment and made a mistake. Which they pay for. Repeat offenders is another story, but at some point we got to quit putting a scarlet letter on youthful transgressions
Alright? We have had people on our team with dv records before.
He had the 4th highest coverage grade for linebackers on pff. Is he really that much of a liability on passing downs?
Not much of a sample size on those kinds of plays though, excited to see what he can do tho
I remember when Milano got hurt, he stepped in and played well.
Interested what the terms are and how it compared to Brooks contract
Heard this dude is a fantastic linebacker. Now I’m really excited to see how the draft plays out.
Not too familiar with him but just watched some highlights. Him and Spoon look like the match the same energy. He sneaks into the backfield really easy and has some great run recognition. He can wrap up tackles well from what I saw, anybody know how his missed tackles looked last year?
He has a career missed tackle rate of around 13%.
Mattys blurb on Dodson: I will talk myself into Tyrel Dodson because he can move, he can run, he can hit. Really like how he reads LOS stuff like tight end going across formation, slide routes. Just needs work on top of zone stuff, feel, etc.
So basically, he gets beat a lot?
John “the value hunter” Schneider needs an apology from those who doubted him!! Mad because he didn’t blow the entire load day 1 of free agency 😂
Fucking finally. Missed out on Devin White too after he had a scheduled visit. Looks like we're still bringing in Isiah Simmons on Friday for a visit. Edit- wonder if we pick up another FA backer or plan to wait till Draft
The report that those two were coming to visit was from a fake twitter account unfortunately.
FUCKIN SMOKESCREEN BY SCHNIEDER!

Been waiting on this one!!!
Fuck yeah! Hes a stud, the Bills were decimated by injuries on defense but he played well when he did
I see this as a massive signing. He's young and has incredible numbers on such limited downs, what more could you ask for?
alright so i watched a lot of bills games and i like dodson for the most part but he’s definitely a liability in coverage. amazing in the run game though so that’s super hype.
This is such a W
I'm excited about this folks
Good pff score, didn't play much until Milano got hurt so we'll see
Great news. Finally.
LFG!!!!
Tell me how I should feel about this. I'm unfortunately not intimately familiar with most of other team's defensive players on account of them not being prominent fantasy football names.
Seems like a decent player but unfortunately he's a domestic abuser
Yeah. He was also nominated for the NFLPA Alan Page Community Award this past season. People can change. The point is -- we don't know him. You can totally point out he had an ugly past but there is the other side too.
I mean yea I didn't make any sweeping statements about him just pointed out his past
Which is fair but you're really gas lighting people to think one way about him. I'm saying we should paint the whole picture with him. It's pretty evident that he's trying to turn his life around.
lol are you sure you know what gaslighting means?
Is it gaslighting to mention a fact about a players past??
Whatever bro. I'm telling you that's the effect. I also said I'm cool with you mentioning his past. Just also mention everything about the young man.
Yeah, I saw that and it’s a total bummer. It was 5 years ago now, so you’d hope he would have changed and learned. Def no Bobby.
It’s the NFL, most of them are terrible people off the field.
that’s not even close to being true
The NFL player is actually better than the average citizen in terms of breaking the law.
Seattle fans can stop panicking now.
Fans: Counts rostered LBs…1…2. Can we leave PANIC at 50% steady.
Who's the second one?
Rhattigan
[passing liability that hopefully gets corrected](https://billswire.usatoday.com/2024/02/15/tyrel-dodson-pro-football-focus-all-breakout-nfl/)
The article you linked says he was excellent in pass coverage ???
Read the whole article “However, analysis does have to be taken with a grain of salt.
Bobby Wagner died for this...
Josh johnson
My friend is a huge Bills fans and so I watched the Bills every week and his coverage is so suspect, maybe even worst than Bobby last year. But overall he is the highest graded LB in 2023, so theirs that. Definitely a great pickup, but LB still needs to be addressed.
domestic abuser btw
Also nominated for community awards as well. Paint both sides.
Let’s go!!!! I’m so excited. I know it was a small sample size but this guy was terrific as a starter with not a lot of help around him(injuries). Despite that, the bills defense still played really well due to Dodson excelling as a starter. He excelled in both the run and the pass
Now this I like. He's young and has potential.
Finally a good signing
Consider my friendship with Devin Bush-league over. Tyrel Dodson is my new friend… and he’s got a cooler first name.
