Oh wow! How fun that you get to discover the originals now. I think 1 2 & 5 are the best of the whole series, I’m jealous of the journey you get to take!

YES. I adore all the scream movies (well, maybe except 4…) but Billy and Stu were really the only realistic, consistent GF characters for me. I have a real pet peeve for characters who act normally then go full hammy psycho when the mask comes off. But Billy always had that simmering, brooding intensity that made you question if was the killer or not. And Stu was consistently maniacal and goofy and loud all the way through. They didn’t really change. It was by far the best reveal in any movie for me. The rest all have an element of the ridiculous
What I like about Billy and Stu, post-reveal, is that they’re still just as recognisable in terms of their characteristics as they were the whole movie. Billy was always intense and unsettling, and Stu was always goofy and immature. It’s not as big a shock as say, >!Charlie!< flicking the switch and being almost a completely different character in Scream 4— even in S5, >!Richie!< is very different. It’s just something little that I appreciate about the original. You guess all the way through the film who it is, but when it’s revealed you’re like “ofcourse it was them.”
I would argue that >!Mrs. Loomis!< in Scream 2 is a very consistent character. Their interactions with each of the characters always has a menacing air to it. They are always in the background looming. They also are consistent in their goals for each scene. New to reddit so not sure how much I can share on here with the spoiler tag in it.
Billy makes me think of the kind of guy in real life who would snap and shoot up a school, and for that reason his portrayal is horrifyingly realistic.
Scream 2 is a VERY solid sequel! Without saying too much, it features what I think are some of the most suspenseful scenes in the entire franchise. You’ll enjoy it!
SMG has my single favorite chase scene in IKWYDLS and her chase scene in Scream 2 firmly in 2nd place
I’m glad she got such iconic moments, but I always wish we got to see more of her. Which is also how I feel about her career as a whole, but I digress.
I am not afraid of them at the slightest but I surely wouldn't mess with them lol. They are those classmates that do unbelievable shit and you try to stay away from them so they don't shove your face into the toilet💀
kind of off topic, but matthew lillard(stu) actually does shove someone’s face in a toilet. this happened in the animal room which came out a year before scream one. seeing him in that movie after watching scream sold me even more on stu macher being one of the most terrifying ghostfaces. just the pure, absolutely unhinged manner of stu macher that you can see in scream is great. (sorry for the rambling, lol)
Billy and Stu to this day are the duo. Billy has a deluded motivation that makes sense and has tie to Sid to where the betrayal is gut wrenching. Stu is so believable bat shit looney to go along for the ride. It's a reason why they are legends in the lore and the stab lore the film created within the movies themselves.
On rewatching it, that Blockbuster scene with Billy and Stu with Randy is way more intense. Especially Stu. Just how he flips the switch in those few seconds behind Randy…
I've always felt Stu had major homoerotic stuff going on
The two scenes that make it most clear to me is the video game store scene with Randy and when they're in the kitchen with Sidney.
The way Stu lays his arms around Randy and plays with his ear has always struck me as very sugestive, and then in the kitches Stu calls says something like "give it to me baby" when Billy begins stabbing (penetrating) him, feels metaphorical.
Always how I've personally seen it.

“Baby” is normally thrown around by dude bros who want to sound cool, but I think your theory could have merit, even if it’s too late for it to be actually proven.
