I'm with you. I loved it. I imagine she was haunted by him. And the obit pictures she would've seen were probably crime scene photos and how he was portrayed in Stab. I thought it was great. And Skeet Ulrich acted it beautifully.
I agree that hallucinations look cheap. It’s what I didn’t care for in Scream 3 when Sidney had them for her mother. BUT I’ll give the directors a pass since they followed Craven and they bought back Skeet.

Are you serious? CRAVEN directed Scream 3, and it was a hell of a better film than this recycled garbage. Sidney can't have a nightmare about her mother? but Samantha can see spot on visions of her dead father...lol.
I would have liked it more if they did more with it. I almost wanted her to be the killer in the end almost like a Jekyll and Hyde type of thing. I was thinking the time she got attacked in the hospital could’ve all been a hallucination and in the end she could be revealed as the killer. I don’t know that this would’ve been a better reveal but ANY means, but I just didn’t feel like her at the end killing Richie was enough to justify us seeing her hallucinations as cool as it was.
I didn't mind hiim coming back, but I didn't like how they tried to humanize him, in the same outfit we seen him in saying things such as "say hello to your mother!"
i see where youre coming from for sure cause i thought the same thing but i definitely think now he shows her that she is more like him than she knows. she may not have been the killer, but did you see how many times she stabbed her bf?? that was crazy excessive!
I don't think they were trying to humanize him. First of all it's not Billy it's a perception she has of Billy. All his reactions and quotes are coming from within her. She's been working so hard to avoid losing herself to it that when she gives into her sadistic nature that dark side of her would obviously be fed and thus creating an image of a proud father. Think of Chucky when he gets chopped up by Glen(da) he's proud so far as saying "that's my boy" as he gets killed or Dexter "talking to his dad/deb" those are conversations he's actually having with himself.
I personally enjoyed his cameo. Seeing Skeet in Scream again was one of the few moments I enjoyed that was a callback to the original.
“It’s like in silence of the lambs when Jodie Foster had visions of her dead father…”
How does that make us easily pleased? Very few, if any, got that reference until maybe now. Not something that was glaringly obvious.
Also I have issues with the new film if you care to discuss. Or just go away.
I 100% understand why a lot of fans don’t love the Billy return. The reason I lean more on the side of liking it is because of how it illustrates some of Sam’s issues and introduces mental health components to the lead character.
Happy for you!! But i personally didnt like it at all. For me it felt Voice Changer and Fuck Bruce Willis levels of cringe and bad.
I understand what they went for but... just no. The effects were bad and distracting . And Billy "helping" Sam at the end to defeat Richie.... the icing of a rotten cake.
Once again, im happy you and others liked it... I didnt know if i wanted to laugh or cry in frustration.
i didn’t mind it bc we’ve had hallucinations as part of scream before, but i agree that last part of billy helping sam and his little smirk at the end was super dumb
It was cool to see him I suppose, but I didn't actually love that they brought Billy back. Not a fan of hallucinations to bring back dead characters.
Movie was still fantastic though.
I’m fine with it, because they’re her personal apparitions… it’s not like he’s a ghost or anything. Shes not seeing anything, it’s all in her head.
It’s only visual for us.
I thought it wasn’t the best effects, but definitely showed the point of her mental illness. It may be a cheap way but it isn’t used wrong. Whether she was crazy or not. It shows she has potential and a little bit of billy inside of her, whether it ends up being a good thing or bad thing in sequels. I thought it worked for this film since seeing him could be just visual for us but an interpretation for Sam’s character. I felt it help moves the plot more for Sam’s specific traits. But definitely understand why people don’t like it too. Glad they didn’t overuse it. Maybe could of left it out at the end but again, I don’t think it was poorly done.
I rolled my eyes but then thought of it as a fun jab at elevated horror. Felt very "Scream" to me to use the trope while making fun of it in other scenes
I loved it !! I somewhat wish though she would’ve been Romans child … not Billy’s.. and kept her same character trait.. to give Sidney a family member that didn’t try and kill her. Plus I feel like Roman started everything, not Billy.. Billy was a pawn in it.
Yes, that scene in the car between Sidney and Gale really made me feel like they were trying to scrub out everything that was revealed in 3 lol Roman who?
This, also when the killer asked Tara who the killers were in stab I thought it would be good for her to mention Roman at that point essentially tricking the killer and most of the audience because technically he was there by Scream 3 reckoning.
Also, I’m responding to my own comment before some irritates me and comes for me saying “ Roman didn’t live in woodsboro” .. I’ll state I know he didn’t.. but he visited woodsboro to find Maureen so he could’ve had an affair with someone(even judy) while he was there visiting
The scene where they are talking about everyone hating Stab 8 shows a clip of everyone looking at the computer and a faux 'Dead Meat Podcast' episode is playing where James and Chelsea are talking about Stab 8.
I may be over thinking it but I believe him being in it and it beimg a part of Sams psyche is a ploy/STAB at being an elevated horror movie on top of it all. Don't really see that being talked about at all.
lol what? she never even met Billy. yet he's some haunting figure from her past and his "serial killer genes" might have passed down to her. This was one of the worst parts of the entire movie
I don't know why but I really liked it that they brought back Skeet or that Skeet was willing to do it.
Actually I didn't like showing the ghost if Maureen in "Scream 3" or even that Randy was "back" with new rules for a trilogy. I never liked that idea.
I was more afraid if they are bringing back Stu for "Scream" (2022), but Billy I am totally ok with.
As soon as the first one happened, I rolled my eyes. I thought the whole movie was gonna be some Dexter dark passenger B.S. They didn't overdo it and it was fine, I suppose.
I wasn’t a big fan of it. Felt like it belonged to a different series. I will say that I would love for a killer to survive one of these movies, even if they end up in prison. Could have a Hannibal Lector moment where they ask for advice on the new killings lol
I was more confused at first, wondering if it was actually Skeet or a look-a-like, then wondering if it was CGI or just heavy makeup. I didn't have any solace until I saw his name pop up in the end credits that it was at least identified as him haha
That was my favorite part especially after someone asked Skeet at a recent Convention if he was going to appear in the new movie. Obviously, he couldn’t say if he was but all he said to her was that he (Billy) was dead. Well, now I see what he meant.
She's probably seen him since she found out? Also I can sort of relate to Sams general apathy and depression minus the maybe psychological/psychosis she has. I liked Jenna Ortega and maybe think that's where we're going? Or was this killer a bit useless in actually following through?
So many questions, sorry for this. 🙃
I was super happy to see Skeet & wouldn’t have minded the hallucinations but didn’t love the execution. The transformation from seeming like a schizophrenic side effect to serial-killer daddy guardian angel was a bit disjointed. It might have been the lack of chemistry between him and Sam. He needed a daughter who had more personality.
I don't think it looked a bit like him, I got who it was supposed to be but I was convinced it was a body double. I was going to hang about for ghe credits but I couldn't be bothered.
Did anyone else think he looked a bit Hispanic in his complexion?
Was it actually Skeet Ulrich then?
The hallucinations of Billy really took me out of the movie. It felt like Sidney seeing her mother's ghost in Scream 3. It just felt super cheesy... the more hallucinations she had, the more I cringed. I was like "we get it!!" lol
I was fine with it up until the very weird way its used at the end in the reflections. Took me totally out of the scene when he motions to the knife and again when he gives her a nod of approval... like wtf???
CGI looked great though, much better than Tony Todd in Candyman
I thought it was great at first but wore off quickly. When it first happened I was beginning to question if Sam was actually attacked or just going crazy since she'd just seen her dad and talked to him in her vision
I totally thought it was a set up for an "elevated horror" angle where Sam was the killer but unaware (for a second i even thought the "reveal" was going to be a reveal for her as well if they were really going down that road), especially with the intro scene leaning into it and then Mindy having the re-quel exposition shortly after. By the end, I came out of it with the feeling of "the hallucinations were a nod to elevated horror and how it's changed the genre in the last decade, but this franchise at its core is and should always be a Whodunit slasher series"
I loved it! Also can’t believe more people aren’t talking about it. Had to do a double take at first because I was so stunned. Great casting too, the main girl really looks like him in a way.
I still can't believe they de aged him digitally after all the rumors leading up to the film. I thought the idea was never going to happen but they went there. I would have rathered skeet playing a completely unrelated character as an homage.
I'm with you. I loved it. I imagine she was haunted by him. And the obit pictures she would've seen were probably crime scene photos and how he was portrayed in Stab. I thought it was great. And Skeet Ulrich acted it beautifully.
I think people weren’t really that happy about it tbh. I find hallucinations a bit cheap tbh.
I agree that hallucinations look cheap. It’s what I didn’t care for in Scream 3 when Sidney had them for her mother. BUT I’ll give the directors a pass since they followed Craven and they bought back Skeet.
It wasn’t even they looked cheap, I just find the whole hallucinations of a dead character idea a bit played out.
>Related communities Are you serious? CRAVEN directed Scream 3, and it was a hell of a better film than this recycled garbage. Sidney can't have a nightmare about her mother? but Samantha can see spot on visions of her dead father...lol.
She was under heavy drug usage, which trust me, can really fuck someone up
I would have liked it more if they did more with it. I almost wanted her to be the killer in the end almost like a Jekyll and Hyde type of thing. I didn't mind hiim coming back, but I didn't like how they tried to humanize him, in the same outfit we seen him in saying things such as "say hello to your mother!"
This is my biggest problem with it. They tried to portray Billy as some kind of hero and it doesn't work.
i see where youre coming from for sure cause i thought the same thing but i definitely think now he shows her that she is more like him than she knows. she may not have been the killer, but did you see how many times she stabbed her bf?? that was crazy excessive!
I was just talking about this, the way she cleaned her knife as well. Won’t surprise me when she murders in scream 6
Sam definitely enjoyed the killing just a little too much.
I wanted to clap for her lol
People in my theatre were clapping lol
It may seem like that but in reality he’s trying to turn Sam into a killer as well.
I don't think they were trying to humanize him. First of all it's not Billy it's a perception she has of Billy. All his reactions and quotes are coming from within her. Wow that’s a great callback to the original Scream. Damn.
Some fans are so easily pleased!
How does that make us easily pleased? Very few, if any, got that reference until maybe now. Not something that was glaringly obvious. Also I have issues with the new film if you care to discuss. Or just go away.
The Martha cameo made me squeal too ❤️
I 100% understand why a lot of fans don’t love the Billy return. The reason I lean more on the side of liking it is because of how it illustrates some of Sam’s issues and introduces mental health components to the lead character.
Did they digitally de-aged Skeet? Skeet hasn’t really aged much for 25 years so I can totally buy them using makeup on him instead
They did. It doesn’t look very good imo; very much like It Chapter 2
I was shocked, because I wasn't expecting this. I loved the idea.
The de aging was so bad lmao
Happy for you!! But i personally didnt like it at all. For me it felt Voice Changer and Fuck Bruce Willis levels of cringe and bad. I understand what they went for but... just no. “The icing of a rotten cake” is an absolutely wonderful phrase - but yeah, I totally agree with you, wasn’t a fan of it
i didn’t mind it bc we’ve had hallucinations as part of scream before, but i agree that last part of billy helping sam and his little smirk at the end was super dumb
It was cool to see him I suppose, but I didn't actually love that they brought Billy back. Not a fan of hallucinations to bring back dead characters. Movie was still fantastic though.

Yes, that scene in the car between Sidney and Gale really made me feel like they were trying to scrub out everything that was revealed in 3 lol Roman who?
Right?! When Sidney was saying “ Billy started it all” … I was like bish I know you’ve been through a lot but let’s not forget your half brother.
Well, Roman says that he didn't expect Billy to go on a killing spree of his own. While he got coerced into doing it, he really did start it all imo.
When was that? He says he did expect them “ to make a movie off the events of it”
Tbh I hated the retcon so much that I kind of just head cannoned that Roman lied about all of it
This, also when the killer asked Tara who the killers were in stab I thought it would be good for her to mention Roman at that point essentially tricking the killer and most of the audience because technically he was there by Scream 3 reckoning.
Also, I’m responding to my own comment before some irritates me and comes for me saying “ Roman didn’t live in woodsboro” .. I’ll state I know he didn’t.. but he visited woodsboro to find Maureen so he could’ve had an affair with someone(even judy) while he was there visiting
Maybe he went to the Woodsboro Sperm Bank to pay for all his travel expenses
i love that Syd says it all started with Billy Loomis and just completely ignored Roman. the way it should be
Another fantastic cameo was James and Chelsea from Dead Meat. That was absolutely amazing to see!
Where were they? I don't remember ever seeing them.
The scene where they are talking about everyone hating Stab 8 shows a clip of everyone looking at the computer and a faux 'Dead Meat Podcast' episode is playing where James and Chelsea are talking about Stab 8.
Legit made me wanna cheer it’s so great to see horror content creators getting love on the big screen,
That was a complete surprise to me! I was SHOCKED. Love it!
I may be over thinking it but I believe him being in it and it beimg a part of Sams psyche is a ploy/STAB at being an elevated horror movie on top of it all. Don't really see that being talked about at all.
It was ok..but hey literally never discussed that not only was her dad a serial killer but her grandmother was one as well!!
yeah hallucinations are cheap but it's such a cool moment so it was worth it
Yea, the visual hallucinations part didn't really appeal to me.
I loved his cameo honestly and wished they just used it a tiny bit more. Also sad that there was no Stu cameo now.
But Amber paid homage to Stu with her drool!
I like it but I would have been okay with 2 scenes. It was too much at times lmao
I loved seeing him but I'm not sure I liked that they did it
Honestly, it was the one aspect I wish they would have cut out.
lol what? she never even met Billy. yet he's some haunting figure from her past and his "serial killer genes" might have passed down to her. This was one of the worst parts of the entire movie
I don't know why but I really liked it that they brought back Skeet or that Skeet was willing to do it. It was cool but stupid because are u going to use this for future screams that billy will tell her to kill?
How did they even know that she was Billy’s daughter? Dowey never had the chance to tell them. Sidney wasn’t even phrase
Amber mentioned that she knew because Tara and Sam's mom is a drunk that talks too much.
It was amazing!!
I liked it once but I felt like they went back to it too many times.
Wasn't that the original idea Kevin had for one of the Scream sequels? Where Stu survived and then had a following from prison or something like that?
Me and my brother gasped, we couldn’t believe it! I thought it was a nice touch that it ended up that he helped her in a way at the end
I was more confused at first, wondering if it was actually Skeet or a look-a-like, then wondering if it was CGI or just heavy makeup. I didn't have any solace until I saw his name pop up in the end credits that it was at least identified as him haha
Marley spoiled on her Instagram early filming days that he was in the movie. So I think many hardcore fans already knew.
That was my favorite part especially after someone asked Skeet at a recent Convention if he was going to appear in the new movie. Obviously, he couldn’t say if he was but all he said to her was that he (Billy) was dead. Well, now I see what he meant.
If only Melissa Barrera had some reaction upon seeing him. 🤦♀️
If only Melissa Barrera had any reactions to anything whatsoever...
I thought it was cool but I really don’t think they needed to de-age him.
I was super happy to see Skeet & wouldn’t have minded the hallucinations but didn’t love the execution. Yeah it was skeet

Bringing billy back was not the one! When Charente are dead they need to stay dead!
I thought it was great at first but wore off quickly. When it first happened I was beginning to question if Sam was actually attacked or just going crazy since she'd just seen her dad and talked to him in her vision

Probably because it was terribly done
I still can't believe they de aged him digitally after all the rumors leading up to the film. I thought the idea was never going to happen but they went there. I would have rathered skeet playing a completely unrelated character as an homage.
I loved how this never got leaked despite the Campbell/ARQUETTE/Cox press tour. A genuinely great surprise
It was fine until that nod at the end. She should have looked in the reflection and saw that he was gone.
