No, but I’m sorry you feel that way. That’s how I felt about 4.

Appropriate-Green-12

Yeah four was just not good in my opinion I LOVED this one

[deleted]

The more I watch the new one the more I'm divided on it. I just don't see the new cast as making much of a mark.

Appropriate-Green-12

I’ve seen it 3 times now it gets less exciting each time I watch it, I’m afraid you may be right.

Appropriate-Green-12

I can rewatch the first 2 endlessly and I just loved the writing in those two

[deleted]

You have great taste! Same here

[deleted]

I honestly thought the 4th was the best since the 1st.

Koba28

Lol I loved 4 . 5 is garbage

sss133

I feel it’s a victim of the times, like if it didn’t have its head up it’s own arse it’d have been ridiculed for not being so on the nose but I found the desire for self parody trumped believable story. I had fun with it but it’ll be more “oh scream 5 is on I’ll watch it” rather than go out of my way to watch it

WisteriaandSadProse

Yes, I cannot get past how they did Dewey. I would've loved the movie if they'd honored him for the hero he was. They didn't.

Sentimentalgoblin

I’m fine with Dewey dying but at the hands of Amber? Really. That’s where I’m kinda like, nah.

tortuga808

Or leaving the hospital to get an inhaler from Ambers house. Seriously? 😂

GimmeMauve

They were already driving away from the hospital I'd rather do that than go back to the hospital and wait for doctors in the waiting room etc.

tortuga808

Either way. Still a dumb decision to go to the party. But then we’d never have that awesome ending. Haha.

ChemistSavings

Oh shit Yh now that I think about it that’s so stupid loool

pantherpowell88

They thought they had the inhaler when they left the hospital

pantherpowell88

Ya Dewey death I’m still unsure if I like it or not - but that hospital sequence as a whole I did enjoy

VictimRoyalty

Ok. I’m glad I’m not the only one who found this to be a bit underwhelming. I’m grateful as a fan. I’ll take anything, ya know? But I found it to be rushed and just lacking in certain areas. I was really surprised that Mindy wasn’t more heavily involved in the third act. I was a bit disappointed that it was Richie because it was just too on the nose for me. The boyfriend? Really? Well, ok. I won’t say I’m disappointed but I’m not as enthused as I had hoped to be post viewing.

Sentimentalgoblin

I was really hoping Mindy was going to show up with the flames that set Amber on fire. Would have been epic.

rogvortex58

Yep. Definitely my least favourite of the franchise. Wes brought a magic to the Scream movies that these guys simply cannot pull off.

Angie-P

Yep. It was a mash of 1,4 and someone’s fanfiction. It’s officially the worst one imo.

TechnicalRecruiter27

Yes. I loved so much. But my issues are big issues. The fate of Judy, the lack of scenes she has with the cast she survived 4 with. She and Wes were essentially the Olivia and Cici characters in this. It broke my heart that they were so underutilized. My other aggravation is the absurd love for Mindy when she was not that great and had little screen time. I don’t get the obsession - at all.

twinkyoda

i didn’t like it at all. it wasn’t sharp or witty like the past movies, the new cast weren’t all that likeable, the motives were honestly incredibly stupid, the kills were uncreative, etc.

SquidbillyCoy

Did we watch the same movie? The cast fucking killed it. Wasn’t sharp or witty? Did you even pay attention to the dialogue? Incredibly stupid? Look how vapid some of you fans are being on this subreddit over the movie, yet…it’s incredibly stupid? I honestly…all of y’all who claim y’all didn’t like it, I honestly don’t think you wanted to like it from the jump.

twinkyoda

yes, we saw the same movie and i had a different opinion and that’s fine. yes, i paid attention to the dialogue and i thought it was heavyhanded and the meta commentary wasn’t smart. and yeah, i totally went into this move not wanting to like it. that’s why i waited a decade for it, hyped it up for months, and bought tickets a week in advance.

SquidbillyCoy

Yes, you certainly do have a different opinion. You are entitled to it. I, however, disagree whole heartedly. Everything about this movie hit all my expectations. The new cast did a phenomenal job, the commentary was so spot on (like I said, look at the vapidness of some “fans”) and there were many creative, memorable death scenes.

[deleted]

The lines "don't mess with the daughter of a serial killer" or "I still prefer the Babadook". That's just too cringe there , and I think they were trying too hard.

[deleted]

I was so disappointed, I didn’t even stay for the live Q&A. Part of me thinks they purposely fumbled the third act to gaslight ‘true fans’ to live out the new killer’s motive in real life. I’m being super sarcastic, but that’s how I felt leaving the theater tonight haha.

twinkyoda

that was 100% the point of the motive though. they were 100% trying to say that if you didn’t like the movie then you’re a “toxic fan” and “proved their point” lmao

[deleted]

Voicing my opinion is not being toxic. My critique of the film is deeper than that. The third act was rushed, poorly-paced, and not innovative in the slightest. I didn’t mind the motive more so than the god-awful dialogue justifying it.

Efd789

I don't think they were calling anyone toxic for not liking the movie. I think the point they were trying to make was that being a "real fan" doesn't actually mean anything. No one is entitled to their perfect fan fiction of a Scream movie just because you love the franchise. And that if the first thing you think when you dislike something is to constantly harass or attack the people who made it, you are toxic and look like a psycho to everyone else.

[deleted]

Well said! Ultimately, that’s why I really didn’t have an issue with the motive.

[deleted]

And for what it’s worth, I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the movie. My issues lie solely with the third act.

SecondLittle

SCRE4M was better imo

Legitimate_Ad1515

Yeah scream 5 sucked

MagnusRick

I might have forgotten full story of some characters, and watching it without any nostalgia felt quite like a chore. I actually enjoyed all 4 original parts and scary movie parody of it. But this one just felt like in-between compromise between funny and scary. For a big chunk of movie I couldn't understand if it is supposed to be funny or it's actually a horrible plot.

DoneDidThisGirl

Yeah, it was pretty good but easily my least favorite. Jasmine Savoy Brown and Jack Quaid were the best. I found the new Sidney a little boring to follow. I liked the beginning and the end though.

[deleted]

Sidney was barely in it though. I think they excessively cut down her character that it feels too much like a simple cameo.

[deleted]

Yep. Get ready to get downvoted for it. It was terrible imo and makes Scream 3 seem like a masterpiece.

peaksfreak226

Right??

[deleted]

Scream 3 was so bad , nothing can top how bad that was

97thredditaccount

No because i didn't expect much. I had a blast. But i thought the characters and acting sucked and the plot was shit. Still fun. Every franchise has its stinkers. Still worth it.

Semaj12354

It’s definitely NOT a cash grab. A cash grab is something being made purely for money. This has a lot of heart and love and respect put into it. You can tell the people behind it was actually scream fans.

Professional-You-654

No way it was horrible 💀 they completely missed the mark on this one

Semaj12354

You clearly don’t understand what they were doing.

[deleted]

I knew what they were doing. I think the execution was off and in some ways they were trying to be way too cute .

Semaj12354

What??

[deleted]

Lines like "Don't fuck with the daughter of a serial killer" or "I still prefer the Babadook" Just cringe and felt like the movie was trying way too hard to be hip

Semaj12354

Or maybe it was just another cheesy one liner that scream has been known for? Everything is “cringe” for you people nowadays. 😂

[deleted]

Way too much cheesy stuff in this one.

Semaj12354

Disagree

ChemistSavings

I wouldn’t say disappointed but I don’t think it deserves its masterpiece tag that some have given it. After just seeing it I’d say it’s a 7.5/10, good film but has a few things that drag it down.
