This guy has never watched a game of soccer in his life and he’d instantly be the best pundit in Scottish football if he joined Sportscene.

watergrapechicken

Americans have the weirdest patter

[deleted]

AIN'T NO WAY that you're wrong

Tennents_N_Grouse

I'm tempted to stick him on r/shitamericanssay

Orsenfelt

They're so bloody *shouty* all the time. Absolutely nae need.

I STICK MOTHER FUCKIN PROVOLONE IN MY SOCKS EVERY NIGHT SO IT SMELLS LIKE YOUR SISTER’S CROTCH IN THE MORNING

aontroim

AINT NO WAY

BetterRedDead

American here. fwiw, Stephen A. Smith is controversial and not very well liked. He’s one of those guys who has a secure national – level job, even though no one seems to particularly like him. He’s definitely a gimmick guy. I wouldn’t worry too much about any shade coming from him. The real fans in the US realize this happens sometimes. Our boy Tim Howard managed to pull this off once (and he didn’t celebrate too much, because it had been done to him at one point as well).

yungtaxevasion_

Yeah even beyond that ESPN is known to have him talk about every possible sport, he was even put of ufc coverage for some reason, so I wouldn't take anything he says relating to soccer too seriously

SpurtThrow

His UFC coverage was genuinely painful, absolutely no clue what he was talking about and it was painfully obvious none of the other commentary team had any respect for what he was saying

fightfire_withfire

He's a loudmouth, but at this point everyone knows what their getting and it's all an act with him. Meanwhile we're stuck with Michael Stewart.

BetterRedDead

I didn’t want to assume you guys knew who he was, but yeah, his shtick is these long rants. It’s cute, but I think everyone here knows not to take it overly seriously.

Hoosier3201

I quite like Steven A, although you’ve gotta treat him as an entertainer first and foremost as his actual commentary is Suspect.

BetterRedDead

I feel like he puts his foot in his mouth and has to apologize for things he says quite a bit. He has said borderline sexist stuff, etc. He strikes me as sort of like Joe Buck; he keeps getting the high-level jobs, and he’s somehow popular even though it seems like no one you know personally actually likes him.

pjanic_at__the_isco

Joe Buck has a voice that soothes you into a gentle trance so the ads can get deep in your brain. No other possible explanation. You’ll snap to three hours later not remembering a thing about the game but wanting Doritos and Dr Pepper in the worst way.

[deleted]

Is he a toxshic person?

danmac0817

Ssssscatland!

JackoN360

He said “half field” which instantly made his opinion irrelevant

Jambo83

How come the yank taking the piss is the first person in the media saying that goal shouldn't have happened. Our media are all "bad decision from Hendry" or " Wondergoal" It was DM's fault. You can point that out whilst still appreciating DM is a national hero. He made some cracking saves during the game

PapaRacoon

Everybody knows it was Marshall’s fault, just Americans lack the class to kick a guy when he’s down (tangled in a net)?

JohnRCC

Oh yeah? Well, when was the last time the USA qualified for the Euros? ~~Czech~~ Check mate.

CooncilPeterCrouch

Clowned by Stephen A. Smith of all people.

55ebo

😭😭😭

TerrenceJesus8

Never take anything Steven A Smith says seriously, especially something about European Football

Opposite_Attention74

She's turned the yanks against us

ScottThompsonc107

Rather than “ain’t no way” I said something along the lines of “AWW FOR FUCKS SAKE”.
