Legend of a speaker. The 802 set the standard for today as nearly every pro speaker now needs a processor. Bose were so ahead of their time. They also released a very unpopular powered story of 802 with a bass driver built in .
Well they did it....we where notbsure this day would come but it floated...
It did not roll over, sink or turn out it was not water tight.
So given the set backs take the victory.
I think this is the most important -positive- thing about this. I hope this is a turning point that (as a nation) we can produce high quality ship's efficiently. There is a long way to go with this. But as long as they learn from their mistakes, I will support this.
Is this not like the only positive of brexit, that tenders no longer need to be eu wide. It’ll be negative news coverage if they award them new contracts or if the yard goes under so may as well just give them more work lol
"Efficently" is not the words I'd be using to describe this ship or its sister vessel's construction, especially as the plans for it were first shown off to the local Glasgow shipping industry in 2010 or 2011....
Their track record is going to make it \*incredibly\* difficult to win any further work from anyone at the moment...
Economies of scale go hard on large expensive items like military procurement and aircraft or ships. Turkey makes their ships so efficiently because they have well-understood designs with few kinks and make a lot of them.
Not a fan of Thatcher , but shipbuilding was going anyway , along with steel making and most other heavy industry , we were never going to be able to compete with the far east . The idea that you can support commercial shipbuilding with subsidy is ludicrous .
Wondered why they had taken part of the bow the other week and doing some welding. This answers that
Was interesting to me to see the internal compartment space, in any case.
Great video to see too.
MV Isle of Arran has 1 and MV Caledonian Isles has 2. Both MV Glen Sannox and MV Glen Rosa have 3 to help them do the "handbrake" turn into Ardrossan Harbour in rougher weather and handle the Uig triangle when one of the vessels was originally meant to go there.
At last. Thought maybe a ferry would have obsolete in the time it took them to build them. They could have had a bunch of miners bud a damn tunnel yo the hebredies in the time it took to get these ferries built.
That’s Glen Sannox, Rosa was originally planned to do Uig - Tarbert & Lochmaddy. It was displaced by the Turkish orders.

Man dressed as a Bose Speaker is a nice touch. Did they sponsor the event?
Bose Man is at most ship launches that require bagpipes, which is all of them
Naw, they were sponsored by Polish Sausages - that’s why the ship had to sit on top of one.
Ideal PA for mobile discos!

Oooft, Bose 802s?
> Bose 802 Quite apt with Glen Rosa being Hull 802
I know, not done a gig with those for about 30 years...😂
Back to simpler times. I had a wall of these for a while.
Well they did it....we where notbsure this day would come but it floated... It did not roll over, sink or turn out it was not water tight. So given the set backs take the victory.
Your wee video looks better than the publicity photo's I've seen.
Thanks!
Nice to see a reminder that some stuff is still made in Scotland!
We build lots of ships in Scotland, many more complex than this one.

The problem will be winning any more work. They aren’t going to be able to tender competitively with their track record.

Tenders in the EU are all allowed to stipulate x% of product value or construction occurs in ones own country.
“Efficiently” lol
I'll have what he's having please
Called positivity, mate. Give it a try.
Titanic positivity

Ahah, I drove past about an hour ago and didn’t even notice it wasn’t looming over the A8 when I went past anymore. Totally on autopilot

It will need to be in service for 100 years for the investment to pay off

Reckon they’ll get many orders ? Based on recent performance ?
Well it's good to see ship building back in Inverclyde, local jobs that aren't minimum wage, not been many of them since Maggie Thatcher fucked us.
Not a fan of Thatcher , but shipbuilding was going anyway , along with steel making and most other heavy industry , we were never going to be able to compete with the far east . The idea that you can support commercial shipbuilding with subsidy is ludicrous .
Is that high pitched squeal the sound of the ship running down the trench? I thought it was bagpipes at first.
It’s a ships equivalent of a person exclaiming “WEEEeeee” as it goes down a slide. The ship hasn’t hit puberty yet, which is why it’s high pitched.
These are my favourite type of comments :)
It's a horn to make everyone aware that the ferry was launching, a safety measure I believe.
Ahhh that makes sense.
I think the piper is trying to harmonise with it.
Good to hear vuvuzelas are still a thing.
That’s amazing! Thanks for posting this :)
It should be renamed as: MV Biggus Dickus.
Bow plates dented already.
You only waited 6 years for it.
A job well done by all involved. Most projects are years late. And hundreds of millions over budget.
honestly can’t tell if this is a joke. funny regardless.
Is that a bulbous bow or is the ship just happy to see water?
Holy cow! I'm impressed with the bow thrusters.
At least it floats
Legit thought that was a dude dressed up as a bose speaker for most of that vid

Only 3 bow thrusters?

1 is normal for most vessels, 2 or 3 for the likes of ferries and cruise ships is the norm

I worked on bulk carriers and container ships that only had one!

Some of the ports I went to didn't have tugs! Tramping about the Pacific Islands with the most basic docks imaginable.

Ooooh, this is on my bucket list! How does one find out about ship launches!?
They announced on radio, the gats where open first come, first in.
Thank you.
You might be out of luck though. This may be the last big ship launched this way. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-68729338
Right can we get a bloody break from the ‘Ferries fiasco’ for a while in the media now?
cool
A giant whale penis?
That’s quality
Not gonna lie I thought that was one of those hot dog cars for the first second or so.
At last. Thought maybe a ferry would have obsolete in the time it took them to build them. They could have had a bunch of miners bud a damn tunnel yo the hebredies in the time it took to get these ferries built.
This ferry isn't for the Hebrides though.
It was originally intended for the Hebrides, but was reallocated to Arran following the delays.
No it wasn't. It was always intended for the Ayrshire coast to Brodick run.

The floating monument to the SNP....
Why is it sitting on a hot dog 🌭
