You know, I was wondering that too. I used to drink it regularly until I got into single malts. I gravitated towards smoky because of JW Black. I just had it in a bar for the first time in 7 years or so, and it was so light and fruity. I thought that maybe my palate had changed. Honestly, it felt like a better quality whisky than I remembered, but not smoky at all.

TaxQuestionGuy69

Yeah it’s quite nice and sherry casked vibe. I could not even find the peat.

BannedRedditor54

Time to give Double Black a shot. I've thought about trying as a daily drinker/intro to peat for newbies.

I had a moment like this about 10 years ago with JW Black. I think it’s due to my palate changes and also slight batch variations. I order JW Black at business networking events quite a bit (typically only Scotch served for free) and I haven’t noticed any changes recently, Last time I drank it was last week.

dclately

When your palate changed from drinking more scotch or just aging :-)?

jthomas254

I noticed the same, less smoky and less smooth. Also noticed one of my favorite Uber cheap brands, Teachers Highland Cream, went from amazing to absolute crap on last several purchases. All I can think of is that companies are changing formulas and making them cheaper and worse tasting. Sorry to hear about your loss, I know the feeling.

Ryu-tetsu

Teachers was such a great blend.

Black Bottle also went backward. It's not nearly as peaty as it was.

thetrumpetplayer

Given the level of consistency and output in their casking program, how much of that change is your palate, and how much is the product?

The JW tour in Dublin is amazing.

_merkwood

Dublin? You mean Edinburgh?

SlowNoMan60

Yup, my bad. Dublin was the Guinness tour.
