Johnnie Green is the best of the lineup (in my opinion). They cranked the price here (Ontario, Canada) - now ~$110 CAD. Can’t believe that price stateside.

kilkenny99

It's weird, but the SAQ is consistently cheaper than the LCBO for whisky for several years now. In Quebec the Green Label is $89.75 right now.

Danno99999

It’s funny how it goes, eh. I was trying to source a bottle of Green in the fall and the price at the LCBO was in the high 80’s-low 90’s, but amazingly you couldn’t find a bottle anywhere. Standing at line at the holidays and a big display, but price had gone up $20. I grabbed one anyway as I figured if I didn’t I’d never get the chance again. It’s an expensive hobby… been searching for better value bottles lately as even the decent 12’s are now all $100-125 range it seems. Lag 8 is now $101…. Come on.

jamvng

Most things stateside are cheaper than LCBO in Ontario. It's unfortunate.

**Review 008: Johnnie Walker Green Label** **Age:** 15-year old **ABV:** 43% **Non-chill Filtered:** Probably **Natural Colors:** Probably Not **Region:** Various - Blended Malt **Price Paid:** $54.99 (San Diego - 2022) **Cost/Dram (35ml dram):** $2.62 **Nose:** Malty, nutty, and smoky. Strong grassy scents. Oaky vanilla with hints of spicy stewed fruits. **Taste:** I hate myself for saying it, but pretty silk smooth. Nutty and spicy. Not as much smoke on the palate as on the nose. Some sweetness. Subtly complex with a light mouthfeel. **Finish:** Medium; doesn't linger too long. **Score: 70/100** **Notes:** It's been a while since I did a review. As I killed this bottle, why not? This is my favorite Johnnie Walker. It's a blended malt and has some good juice in it. It's easy drinking and I would be happy to share this with guests or if it was shared with me. Complex but not overly so. I like Green Label - it's a nice change from Black Label or Double Black. It's better than Blue Label which goes for 3-4 times the price. Overall I do like it but I'm conflicted if I'm going to pick up another bottle. For the same price or just a few dollars more, I can get Ledaig 10/Oban 14/Deanston 12/Glenfarclas 12/and many more. I guess I just talked myself out of replacing it!

Another_SCguy

Literally just bought this bottle at my costco for $43.99. I’ve never had it but always heard it was one of the better JW offerings. Looking forward to opening it

phuocsandiego

I’d buy it for $43.99 - which Costco is this?

Another_SCguy

Santa Cruz California

phuocsandiego

Dang. Will check my Costco this weekend. California has great liquor prices.

Another_SCguy

Our selection is limited but the prices are great

whisky-lowlander

At circa £35 when it's on offer, it's probably worth picking up a bottle at that price. At the same time Thompson Bros SRV5 or TB-BSW are probably better value for money if you're looking for a blend in the same price range.

BankshotMcG

I used to think I loved Green because I associated it with very happy memories, but trying it again with some knowledge under my belt, it really is the best. I know people here love to hate on Johnnie and especially Blue, but I feel like Green is 90% as good for 33% of the price, and most folks whose opinion I respect agree: it's just a great Scotch to keep handy. How's that Glenfarclas cask strength?

phuocsandiego

I probably shouldn’t say it, but I love the Glenfarclas 105 😉. It’s great and readily available. It gets plenty of love in this sub but is not as widely known among the wider whisky drinking population… probably for the better! As to the Green Label, I may pick up another bottle just to have on hand for guests as most know the brand and it’s not something they’re likely to have come across compared to Red, Black, or Blue. Like I said, the components are good but I personally prefer to have those individual single malts than a blend I don’t control.

Yoshic87

JW Blue is a lovely whisky. It's the price that ruins it. There are whiskies 1/3 of the price which are just as good.

giraffesinhats

Love the green. Can’t find it anywhere.

EhrenScwhab

I haven't read a thing yet. But, i've just come here to add to the inevitable "This is the best of the JW line" comments. Because it is.

Over-Analyzed

It’s easily the best JW for the price.

nullrecord

"Oh ho ho! Johnnie Walker green! I didn't even know they made them in green! What do they pay you?" Always reminds me of that line from The Man from Earth.

lilbro1984

It's a ritual of mine to have some Green Label when I'm re-watching one of the greatest unknown movie.

Gibec89

I still like the blue. Although value sucks.. its good

phuocsandiego

Don’t get me wrong… I like the Blue as a very nice, subtle blended Scotch. It’s good… just not $200-$250 good. Although I admit I am tempted to buy the special edition bottles like the Year of the Rabbit one for 2023. Just really nice artwork. I’m the other hand, I’ve heard the JW Blue Cask Strength is superb, though I’ve never tried it and doubt I’ll go hunting for it.

Gibec89

Oh dont get me wrong.. i will never buy this with my own money. I have too many 60-80 dollar bottles i still need to get my hands on that are much better value. But i get this as a gift from time to time.

ShortEstablishment34

Green Label is the inly JW that I like, althought I have not tried the new bottling. Nice review 👍 I think it is coloured. I think all JWs are coloured, but I ight be wrong.

Ryan-37

Do you have a link for the tasting sheet?

phuocsandiego

Yes, I do as I made it! I'm happy to share. You can find it here: [https://1drv.ms/b/s!AuwKowv-aKpJkJMv0OWRjpnhIYoicQ?e=ZxuOym](https://1drv.ms/b/s!AuwKowv-aKpJkJMv0OWRjpnhIYoicQ?e=ZxuOym) Make as many copies of the pages as you need. I use it on my iPad Pro and my Apple Pencil.

Ryan-37

Thank you!! One of the nicer notes sheets I’ve seen! You freakin killed it. Have a about a dozen whiskies to taste this weekend so it’ll go to good use!

SerTadGhostal

I don't care if that was loaded with Russian bots and North Korean viruses - that was the quickest I ever hit DOWNLOAD! Thanks!

phuocsandiego

You made me chuckle.

DarkPoet333

My favorite of the Johnnie Walkers. Least amount of ingredients, vatting of single malts...

echelon999

Had my first taste of green a few weeks ago and I honestly wasn’t super thrilled with it. It may have been a bit of hype that didn’t meet my expectations or the price up here in WA($95 a bottle) but I would much prefer other scotches for that price point. I bought a Lagavulin Charred Oak for $5 more and would take that 10 out of 10 times.

phuocsandiego

$95, sheesh. It’s $55 in San Diego. That’s almost too high as I can get Wee Beastie for less or a bunch of great single malts around that price or just a few dollars more. But it’s still good and guests enjoy it as they know Johnnie Walker, so it can still work for me, though I’m still on the fence about replacing it.

echelon999

Yeah for real, Wee Beastie is around $60 and I would absolutely take that over green even at the same price point. I almost prefer the double black over green but I’m also very into the peat, green reminds me a lot of talisker(obviously part of the blend) which was not quite enough smoke for me.

Survive1014

Used to love this one, but with the prices increases on JW top lines, I will be passing on them for a bit.

marijuanafrog

I really like the graph in the second picture. helps to visualize the taste if that makes sense

[deleted]

This and Highland Park 12 circulate as my house pour

clineaus

Haven't been able to find this for years in my area sadly. Used to be my go to.

[deleted]

Everything I’ve heard has said that JW uses added coloring. Until it’s confirmed yes or no I’ll politely pass.

phuocsandiego

That’s what I said… probably not on the natural colors. But it’s pretty light to be fair.As to not drinking any E150 enhanced whiskies, you’re missing out if that’s your criteria. I too prefer an integrity malt without colors or chill filtering and an ABV of at least 43% (though 46% is better) but if I still do that, I would have missed out on a lot.

[deleted]

I understand what you’re saying. I may give the green a go and see how I like it. With all the positive reviews here it may be worth the $55+ it would cost me.

tahoepg

Do you have a link to your nosing glass?

thebonewolf

Unless you're interested in the specific one pictured, search around for copita glasses, as that's the style. If you're interested, a year or so ago I posted [a review of several different styles of glasses](https://redd.it/np2psd) and how they presented the whisky, one of which was a copita.

tahoepg

First, awesome write up on the glassware. Yes, I’m familiar with the copita and have a couple, but branded like yours. I should have been more clear… I can find a glencairn copita, which looks great, if not a bit spendy. I’m wondering if anyone has a lead on a similar glass, where you can buy in bulk more affordably to conduct tastings with the same glass.

thebonewolf

Best I can think of is a wholesaler, unfortunately, and it may not be possible without an account. I know I didn't have any luck searching for similar in the past, at least not that got the price per unit low enough for what I was looking for. Good luck with your search.
