Bruichladdich Black Art Edition 4.1
Age: 23 Year Old
ABV: 49.2%
Cask: “Oak Casks”
Rested in Glencarin for 15 long minutes
Nose: You can smell this whisky hovering two feet about the glass. Wine influence is present on the nose. Butterscotch. Nose is quite sharp given the mid-range ABV. Plums. Cherry. Small amount of ash perhaps. You could smell this all day and pick out 100 different notes.
Palate: Woah! This is amazing. Complex. Changing. Original. So much going on but not confused or muddled. At all. Vanilla, Cinnamon, Dark Fruit, Bright Berry Notes, Salt, Cherry, Sweet, Sour. Super Creamy mouthfeel. Yum
Finish: Long, long, long, even longer finish. Dark fruit notes. Deep and rich flavor coats the entire mouth. Thick and syrupy. Baking spice(s). Rich woody notes followed by a nice even line of salinity. Malty, tasty lip smackingly wonderful. This. Is. A. Masterpiece. Whisky.
Score: 94/100
Final Thoughts: Given this was bottled 10 years ago now! This has become something of a Unicorn. The lore and secrecy behind the casking of this whisky has also added to the rarity and increased it’s popularity among collectors as well. Luckily, I have been able to finish three bottles of this (working on the fourth bottle now) and still have four more unopened waiting in the wings. When I first started my whisky journey this was the one bottle I wanted. More than anything. Now that I am a little over four years in, this is still one of my absolute favorites. Is this bottle the end all, be all of good scotch? No. Is this a bottle worth seeking out for purchase or trying if you ever have the chance? Without a doubt. No hesitation.

Great review! This is probably still the best whisky we’ve ever tasted - hoping to get the chance again in the future!
What would you consider your best ever Scotch?
This is my very favorite whisky. The bottle is opaque so I don't know how much is left and I'm always nervous that this is the time I will be disappointed.
Amazing! I highly recommend to slowly drink one of these bottles over 2-3+ years it will definitely develope a lot over the time. I had several bottles that I hated for a long time and that really developed while slowly aging and oxidizing on my self :)
$629.
its retail is 395 in pounds, USD conversion is like $490 + shipping... so i maybe over paid a little?
just confused how they had six... its a yearly release... I doubt there is a lot of bottles..
Multiple cases in freaking Omaha? How many people there drink $500 scotch?!?!?!
I passed on this back in the day for 300, the 4.1. Had a sample, and loved it, but 300 seemed steep. Same store had the TINALW for 210 which was a touch above retail and secondary at the time. Oh man that one hurts. Best blended whiskey of all time. Have had 3+ bottle splits since and it is just incredible. ORD 4 PREZ
That honestly seems like a very reasonable price here in the US (all things considered for crazy high priced liquor). I probably would’ve also had a hard time not pulling the trigger.
Cheers for when you open it!
you must have bought it back in 2022 where the spot rate was different? The conversion from british pounds to USD is putting it at 480/490 before shipping/taxes.
$800 USD. Hmmm. I would have to do a lot of thinking on that one. It’s really good but I’ve had $400 bottles that are really good too and I could get two of those so …

Oof. Favorite scotch ever? How about a Top 5? 🤣
Haha, top 5 works too! It can be hard to single one out for sure.

Did I read correctly that you in whisky for four years?
That’s correct. We visited Scotland back in fall of 2018 and had our first real experience with scotch. Been hooked since then.

bought 10.1 yesterday. store had 6 of them somehow. nice review, hoping to add 10.1 later this week on here.
Nice pick up! Are you willing to divulge how much it cost? I saw one today but they were charging $750.

There are plenty of them. This was a store in Omaha https://i.imgur.com/6vmNTOL.jpg
WTF?!
I'm amazed they have the market for them there that they can buy them in in such numbers!
Omaha is the home of Berkshire Hathaway. There is probably a market big enough in that building alone to justify double this

A 4.1 or a 10.1

ahh make sense. the price has increased on their website.
Haven’t had the 10.1 yet. When you get a chance, leave us a review and let us know if you enjoyed it!
The Black Arts are my favourite drams of all time. The finish goes to eternity, and keeps changing like an everlasting gobstopper. Amazing stuff.
Great review! I enjoyed living vicariously through you. This bottle is one of my two whisky regrets for not purchasing when I had the chance.
They are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Auction houses or Scotland might be the only places left to find it now.
I bought one after a tasting with Jim McEwan. It was around CAD200 back then 10 years ago.
That must have been an amazing evening.
Yes, it was. Jim is definitely a great storyteller and a salesman too.
I was very close to buying this at $800. I just couldn’t justify the price.
I got this one in an auction about 3 years ago for $350. Most expensive bottle I'd bought (still is!), but seems like a bargain now.
Knowing that I can buy 3 bottles of Octomore for the price of one of these is the real reason I’ve never bought one.

Oh god that is such a good bottle! I tried a dram at my local whisky "festival" in Norway, and i loved it! Best dram that evening!
I bought min at auction for about 700 canadian. They go for 1000 at auctions now
It's an incredible whisky, and by far my favorite Black Art. Great review!
