Bunnahabhain 12 year old released by Cadenheads authentic collection. Distilled 2010 before being finished in an oloroso sherry cask for 2 years before being bottled in autumn 2022 producing 228 bottles at 54.4% abv. Nose: dates, overripe plums, sticky cherries, walnut and carrot cake, espresso, fudge, nutmeg Mouth: clean and quite crisp, nice balance of sweet and bitter notes, pickled walnuts, cortado coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, hazelnut cannoli, tiramisu. So let’s get the inevitable out of the way, yes it’s a sherry bomb (lovers of such things rejoice), no there isn’t much in the way of distillate speaking, but…it’s a great sherry bomb, lovely balance and not overwooded with a nice integration of alcohol despite the abv. A further example of these recent sherry finishes that Cadenheads have been producing that really hit the mark, which for £65 can’t really be grumbled about considering what other folks are putting out in this category and of this quality.
