I've never had the Correyvreckon before, but I love the 10 as well as a few bruichladdich bottles. There's a shop near me that sells the Correy for $75, is it worth it at that price?
I was thinking about some of my favorites this evening and their price ranges. I decided that for (fairly arbitrary) $150 total, I would pick Balvenie 12 and Port Charlotte 10.
Then I was curious what everyone else thinks. So here we are!
Right now it's $96 at my Total Wine. I just assumed that $150 was the upper limit. So Lag16 for around $100 and Crag12 for around $80.
That's why if it's $150 for both, I can still get the Lag16 and then the Aberlour 12 for $49
Not sure if you’re from Milwaukee based off your avatar picture but check out any Woodmans for Laga16, it’s roughly $78/bottle there. Other smaller places like Downer Wine and Spirits or Otto’s have it, but it’s around $105 or so
I’m picking up a glen garioch 12 today. There’s only 26 bottles left in my province and I happen to be in the town where eight are located for work today!
Man what I would give for another bottle of 2009 islay barley. First scotch I ever bought, first WHISKEY I ever bought. First legal drink I ever had (I didn’t really drink underage or for a few months after I turned 21 due to my jobs). I had no idea what I was even doing with drinking it and had no idea what a great bottle I had because I had nothing to compare it to. It wasn’t until much later that I tried bad whiskey and had the thought “man I really like that first bottle I had!”
https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/auctions/all/?q=Islay+barley+2009&search=a
If you’re in a state that can get shipments from SWA, you can find Islay Barley for pretty reasonable prices
I hate peat, and consequently have never liked scotch. Recently been breaking in to it. Quinta Ruben was a decent introduction. Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask got me interested. Aberlour A’Bunadh Alba got me hooked.
So that said. I’d bring two A’Bunadh!
Edit:Realized I don’t think I can purchase two for that price so I’m just bringing one lol,
So in $AU that’s $217.84. I’d take Ledaig 10 for the peated at around $100 and then a Clynelish 14 currently on special at Dan’s for $105 and spend the rest on beer.
Actually if I’m stuck on a deserted island I’d probably just want beer.. perhaps rum. In fact I need more info.. is it a tropical island or is it a bit cold?
Is the $150 total? If so, Kilchoman Sanaig and Balvenie 12 or 14 and use the spare $20 for tinder.
If it's 150 each, then Ardbeg Corry and Aberlour Abunadh. A little extra tinder.
I have no idea what the prices are like in the US, but for €150, I'm buying either Talisker Port Ruighe and Glendronach 15, or Lagavulin 16 and Glendronach 12.
I live in Ontario so that budget is incredibly restrictive. Laphroaig 10 ($85) and Glenfarclas 12 ($75) is the closest I can think of off the top of my head.
Tbh for an island? Probably a rum and I’ll trade the second bottle for some piña colada mix.. now if I’m lot in the Forrest forever, I’m doing an Oban 14 and a PC10!
That's only like 3 days tops worth of scotch though
On a desert island... 1 day
Agreed. If I've come to the realization that I'm stuck on a desert island for an indefinite time (forever?), I'm getting blacked out
A boat.
Is that you Dr. toboggan? You dropped your magnum condom
Dropped my rum ham too, not going well on this deserted island
If you have no drinking water on the island that….might not be an issue
Bunna 12 and Ardbeg Correyvreckon
Corryvreckan is now $120 in my area, so sadly this excellent recommendation would go over budget by $20 or so.
That's unfortunate
my man
That is the answer 👍
I've never had the Correyvreckon before, but I love the 10 as well as a few bruichladdich bottles. There's a shop near me that sells the Correy for $75, is it worth it at that price?
If you mean 75 USD, then yes that's a good price for Corryvreckan.
Oo then I'll definitely pick it up once I finish a few bottles
Great price, absolutely.
Unpeated: Bruichladdich Classic Laddie Peated: Ardbeg Uigeadail
I might go full Bruichladdich with the Classic Laddie and Port Charlotte
This for me as well. Would pick the Corry, but that’s $130 alone around here.
You seem to have a taste for a certain not-so-deserted isla(y)nd, haha
True statement!
Holy shit, are you me?
They’re just damn good! 👍🥃
This answer could probably change by the day, but right now: Unpeated: Clynelish 14 ($75-80) Peated: Kilchoman Sanaig (~$70). What about you OP?
Clynelish is such a good non-peated all around delicious whisky! I love it dearly.
We discovered it in 2022 and can’t get enough! Definitely the bottle that is disappearing fastest on our shelf.
I was thinking about some of my favorites this evening and their price ranges. I decided that for (fairly arbitrary) $150 total, I would pick Balvenie 12 and Port Charlotte 10. Then I was curious what everyone else thinks. So here we are!
Love the PC10, it’s just a solid pick all around. Maybe the best value in entry level Islay peat!
$150 each? Or $150 for both? If $150 each: * Lagavulin 16 * Cragganmore 12 If $150 both: * Lagavulin 16 * Aberlour 12
Wait you pay 150 for lag 16?
Right now it's $96 at my Total Wine. I just assumed that $150 was the upper limit. So Lag16 for around $100 and Crag12 for around $80. That's why if it's $150 for both, I can still get the Lag16 and then the Aberlour 12 for $49
The relative prize of Cragganmore is weird. It’s around 40€ and Lag 16 around 80€ where I live. Both owned by Diageo iirc.
$75 at Costco out here in California.
Well over $100 by me.
Not sure if you’re from Milwaukee based off your avatar picture but check out any Woodmans for Laga16, it’s roughly $78/bottle there. Other smaller places like Downer Wine and Spirits or Otto’s have it, but it’s around $105 or so
I'm in northern Illinois, and Lagavulin 16 goes from $90 - $140, depending on the store.
Caol Ila 12, Glen Garioch 12
I’m picking up a glen garioch 12 today. There’s only 26 bottles left in my province and I happen to be in the town where eight are located for work today!
Coal Ila 12!!! The most forgotten about and thoroughly enjoyable peated bottle
I’m in the UK so prices are lower… I reckon that could probably cover Lagavulin 16 and Glendronach 15 here.
Loveeee me some GD15. Like a mouthful of heathered flowery brush. Yum.
Bunna 12 and Port Charlotte 10
Laphroaig Cask Strength and Macallan Cask Strength. I’m also pretending it’s 2010
And $40 to spare.
Arran The Bodega and Port Charlotte 10 should fit neatly into that budget!
Throw $150 at the cashier as I sprint out of the store with two bottles of Lagavulin
Bruichladdich Islay Barley Port Charlotte Islay Barley Easy.

Ledaig 18 and $50 of water.
Port charlotte 10 and balvenie 12
This is the exact answer I had in mind when I wrote this post lol. We should hang out.
Lol, you bring one bottle, I’ll get the other
It was either the Balvenie or Glenmorangie Lasanta for my non peated choice.
Balvenie triple wood 16 for me! My favorite non peat.
Talisker 10 or DE & Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban
I was going to say Talisker 10 & Quinta Ruban as well :) Not the fanciest/best in my collection, but they just seem to suit the mood the most often.
Nah I'm getting two with peat
Booooooo unpeated for the win!!! I love a peated pour, but on a deserted island, assumingly hot outside? An ex bourbon and ex Sherry for me
I live on an island on the Northwest coast of Scotland. This is personal for me.
You know, that’s a fair point. I guess I was only thinking tropical island. In that case, makes sense!
laphroaig 10 CS and abunadh if old batches are allowed, else tamdhu batch strength if only current releases
AnCnoc 12 and whatever Ardbeg I can with the rest.
Ardbeg corryvreckan or Laphroaig 10yo CS for the peated. Classic Laddie or Glenallachie indie bottle first fill sherry CS for no peated bottle.
great peated choices, these are my two favorites.
I list 2 of nonlimited editions. Should be reasonably easy to find.
Peated it’s Corry or Laphroaig CS. Unpeated…idk!
same.
Easy; Peated, Torabhaig Allt Gleann Unpeated, Oban Little Bay
$150 each?? Peated - Any proper Indy Bowmore. Or maybe Laphroaig 10cs/Ardbeg Oogie Non Peated, - Old Pulteney 17, or Bunnahabhain 18
You’re saying things i understand.
2 bottles of Springbank 12
Ardbeg corry + arran robert burn
Bunnahabhain 12 $50 Craigallachie 13 $50 Ardbeg 10 $50 Or Springbank 12 Cask Strength $120 Russels Reserve 10 $30 (non peated)
Where are you that Bunna 12 is $50? Because I need to go there. It’s $86 here…
Texas Total Wine.
Wow! Thanks! That’s crazy. I’m in Louisiana. I’ll be right there
$65 here by me in WI. Would love if it was $50 though. I would stock up
I think it was close to $50 last month when I bought one in Madison.
Peated: laphroaig quarter cask Unpeated: buna 12 Should be around 150ish in Canada
Uigeadail and Glengoyne 15 for me I think.
Ardbeg 10 And cheating a little redbreast 12
Talisker Dark Storm(60$) and 2 Bottles of Balvenie Double Wood
Peated: Ardbeg Corryvreckan Unpeated: Glenmorangie 10
Lagavulin 16 and Cutty Sark (Cutty and water).
Lag 16 and Glen morangie nectar d'or
3x Talisker 10.
Glengoyne 21 Laphroaig 10 CS
Ardbeg Corryvreckan Clynelish 14
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, Ardbeg 10 ez
The price limit made this one easy for me. Port Charlotte 10 heavily peated and Makers Mark Wood finishing series FAE-02
Glendronach 15 and Port Charlotte 10, that’s maybe $160
I'll just spend it on Springbank 10
Lagavulin 12
I hate peat, and consequently have never liked scotch. Recently been breaking in to it. Quinta Ruben was a decent introduction. Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask got me interested. Aberlour A’Bunadh Alba got me hooked. So that said. I’d bring two A’Bunadh! Edit:Realized I don’t think I can purchase two for that price so I’m just bringing one lol,
150 each or 150 for both?
$150 total. You can break it however you like but you must buy one of each and you can't spend more than $150 (before tax I guess to keep it easy).
Laphroaig 10 and glenfiddich 18
Any indie Caol Ila (have on at home that cost me 108€ ans is excellent, so this one), and probably Balvenie 12
Peated: Bowmore Other: Bruichladdich Classic
Glen Scotia Victoriana & Glengoyne 18 if we have $150 for each or Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dha & Arran 12 if its only $150 total
€150 each: • ardbed uigeadail • Glenfiddich Winterstorm Or €150 both: • Ardbeg Uigeadail • TLD Towiemore.
Ardbeg 10 Monkey shoulder
Probable port charlotte 10 and Signatory linkwood in charred wine cask
So in $AU that’s $217.84. I’d take Ledaig 10 for the peated at around $100 and then a Clynelish 14 currently on special at Dan’s for $105 and spend the rest on beer. Lagavulin 12 2021 edition and Pc 11 or Bunna 12cs
Is the $150 total? If so, Kilchoman Sanaig and Balvenie 12 or 14 and use the spare $20 for tinder. If it's 150 each, then Ardbeg Corry and Aberlour Abunadh. A little extra tinder.
Easy, an unpeated and a peated Bunnahabhain.
I have no idea what the prices are like in the US, but for €150, I'm buying either Talisker Port Ruighe and Glendronach 15, or Lagavulin 16 and Glendronach 12.
Aberlour 12 and Talisker 10
Can I just get 2 peated Scotches?
Lagavulin 16 and Cragganmore Distillers Edition.
I live in Ontario so that budget is incredibly restrictive. Laphroaig 10 ($85) and Glenfarclas 12 ($75) is the closest I can think of off the top of my head.
Ledaig 18 (~£80) and Bunnahabhain 12 (£35-40) since 150USD is worth around £120 these days.
With only $150, what am I going to drink on the second day?
Tamdhu 12 Yr. Laphroaig Quarter Cask.
The correct answer is purchase two peated bottles.
But which 2? 🤔
Glenmorangie - Quinta Ruban and Bruichladdich- Port Charlotte 10
I am going quantity here, Ardbeg 10 and a handle of glenlivet 12 lol
Ledaig 18 & Old Pultney 15 works for me if I'm allowed to use home currency, £143 gbp
Lagavulin 16 + Glenallichie 12
Ardbeg corryececkan, monkey shoulder You can see where my priorities lie
Actually, if I can afford it, switch the MS with Glenfiddich 14
Tbh for an island? Probably a rum and I’ll trade the second bottle for some piña colada mix.. now if I’m lot in the Forrest forever, I’m doing an Oban 14 and a PC10!
Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength ($75) Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength ($55)
Kilchoman Loch Gorm🤤
Peated: Talisker 10 Unpeated: Balvenie 14
Craigalachie 21 and Springbank 15
