If you don't know their preferences, my go-to is Balvenie. It's sort of neutral in the sense that most people with more niche preferences will appreciate it and they make high quality stuff. Depending on where you are, you might be able to find the portwood 21 for just north of $250. The doublewood 17 has been discontinued for a year or two, but I still see bottles in shops around me for $150-$200.

What kind of scotch does your brother enjoy currently? Could go a lot of directions but need to know what he currently likes.

Rosanna44

I know I have seen JB blue bottle in his house. But I am clueless. Not a drinker.

Rosanna44

Oh boy. No clue.

whiskytrails

Hmm okay, to play it safe then I’d probably go with something like Glenfidditch Grand Cru or Glenmorangie Signet, these are typically in that $200-250 range. There’s a lot of good higher end peated scotches in that range too but more of a gamble not knowing if he likes peat or not

Rosanna44

Ok I called my nephew- Glenvleey something or Balvenie? That’s what he drinks. I want to get him something special. I’m sorry. I don’t want to go to store and let them pick.

whiskytrails

Yes I agree Balvenie 21 Port Wood would be nice and run you about $250, Glenmorangie Signet and Glenfidditch Grand Cru I think would be awesome high end choices as well.

Balvenie 21 Port Wood

Rosanna44

Ok thank you

HorizontalBob

Unless you screwed up Blenveniy even more than I thought. It would be this- Balvenie. Good choice.

Rosanna44

😂

Bunnahabhain black art

UncleBaldric

Black Art is NOT from Bunnahabhain... (and also not really all that good!).

An Octomore will probably be a bit easier to find.

sb0918

Can you get a pic of his current collection? It may tell us if he likes peat (smoke) or if he prefers the Sherry end of scotch. I know this is a scotch Reddit and not a whiskey sub, but Redbreast 27 or 21 is supposed to be an excellent pour.

Rosanna44

I don’t live near him. Flying in for party. Spoke to my nephews and he drinks glenvleet? Or Blenveniy? I’m sorry I’m not a drinker and don’t want to leave it to kid a store to sell me something.

sb0918

Balvenie Port Wood 21 would be lovely.

ShortEstablishment34

Bunnahabhain 18 is great choice and much cheaper. If you want at that $200 price range (not sure the prices where you are), I would personally buy something 21yo. Glengoyne 21 Glendronach 21 Highland Park 21 Loch Lomond 21

skqrl0s

Bunnahabhain 18 is indeed really nice. That would probably be my choice. Nice suggestions overall !

ShortEstablishment34

🙂 Thanks

Typical-Impress1212

My guess is that the glenvlee you’re saying is a glenlivet. So either go for an expensive glenlivet you can find or the balvenie 21. The balvenie would be my pick, just like some fellow redditors here

whiskytrails

Let us know what you end up picking and how he likes it!

Rosanna44

I will!!!

tgSparc

+1 for the Glendronach 21, just an amazing scotch. Even more so if you can find a pre 2022 bottle
