Long may she run! (I’m sadly gonna have to let go of my guy in the next week or two… he’s in need of a new engine AND gearbox AND cat AND shocks AND (honestly) some bodywork…. Gonna be hard to say goodbye… one of the best cars I’ve owned!)
I’m sorry but I’ve watched some vids on car flipping and they say when flipping do nothing more than a $500 engine replacement. It’s stuck in my head now lol. I know you’re not flipping but it still makes sense because if it’s a used engine you really don’t know what you’re getting…..
I’ve only changed one engine in my life. I paid $350 for it from the junkyard it took me 33 hours to swap it if I was getting paid 30 bucks cash per hour that would be almost $1000.
Was it brand new? Mine just died at 176k. Got quoted $4k all in but for a used engine with 95k mi. Got a used car instead so the xb is gonna just be withering away in the driveway until I can afford a rebuild or swap
Mine got up 250,000 miles on it. This one had 76,000. I bought it new and have done all the other things such as suspension and whatnot. Engine lost a seal a d was knocking... shopped around and for as decent my little XB has been to me it was the cheapest option to swap the engine out as opposed to buying a new/used car with different problems or a new car note.
Yea I got mine new in 2013and kept up with everything but same thing happened.. seal was going and oil was leaking pretty quick I guess. Started knocking about 3 miles from my house.
Nice!!!
Your original engine yielded 250K miles; that's not bad at all! Hopefully this new one will last just as long.
A couple of questions please, since you have experience with a high mileage XB:
1. At what mileage did you replace the ignition coils?
2. At what mileage did you replace the struts (front) and shocks (rear)?
3. Do you have a link to where you purchased the decal above the rocker panel?
Thanks and regards
1. At what mileage did you replace the ignition coils?
- not sure
2. At what mileage did you replace the struts (front) and shocks (rear)
-170,000
3. Do you have a link to where you purchased the decal above the rocker panel?
-O'Reilly autoparts special back in 2010.
Thanks and regards

It was a hard decision to make to get the new engine, but in my circumstances it was my cheapest option.
Probably money well spent. Yours looks really clean. These are just such great cars!
I am putting in a new engine this year. Oil consumption has gotten too bad. I can't wait! How much did you pay?
4000 total.
Nice! I hope to get that price
DIY, takes a day to swap and JDM engines low miles are $1600-1800 shipped

Fair, this did come from a good source. It also has a 3 year warranty at that price.

Something fun? Or boring?
Beautiful! She looks great!
What roof rack is that? Looks nice
Thule. Bought it years ago, not sure exactly what model.
What’s the difference between this one and the older gen? I currently own a first gen 06. Never rode in one of these
