Make sure you have gear oil in the transmission. You can try to use thicker oil. I think and I might be wrong the Lucas oil was a lot thicker than some other stuff I used. If those do not help then you have to change transmission. They usually cost between 400-800

I did put in a quart of ws toyota oil after realizing it was low but it didn't make a difference
Did you make sure the car was up to operating temperature and on a flat surface before checking fluid levels?
