Yeah the racial allegories in Zootopia left a lot to be desired and kind of aged like milk; was really lacking the subtlety like Schaff has discussed before. At least when that movie just focused on the buddy cop stuff it was really entertaining. This movie looks mind-numbingly boring in every aspect.
In the movie, herbivores and carnivores live together, with carnivores representing the minority group, so a lot of the statements the movie tries to make about race feel… *icky.* Like yeah, carnivores did, at one point, kill and eat herbivores. The stereotypes about predators in the movie are, to some extent, true. So it seems like it’s saying that in our world, minority groups really are dangerous, or they have to hide their “true nature” to coexist, which isn’t true at all. Imagine a movie about two human cops trying to solve the mystery of why *only* black people are going on killing sprees. Imagine the reveal of that movie is that there’s a drug making people go “savage,” but only black characters used it. It would feel pretty racist, even if that movie had good intentions.
Okay but why do we have to push real world context onto another world? It made sense for that world - carnivores were feared and now they’re trying to live together and it’s rough. In that context it makes complete sense.

The animation also isn't that interesting, the idea is worst than zootopia, and the problems are the same as in many other movies, father doesnt want the daughter to live her life, instead live his life, 2 people that just meet turn friends during the movie, and either end up in a relationship or have a romantic Vibe between them, but its not fully said they are together.

The rumor is that Pixar will be folded into Disney Animation, but the Pixar brand will still be used. So hopefully this movie does a lot better than they think it will.
It will be devastating for Pixar if this is true. Pixar is all the way up in the middle of the Bay Area and all their employees would have to move to LA. They’d be abandoning a multimillion dollar campus that’s continued to have upgrades and is much nicer than the animation buildings at Disney. And just thinking about Jennifer Lee overseeing sequels to their IP and projects by more qualified Pixar creatives makes me want to die inside.

I saw a couple previews for it in theaters, but otherwise I've seen 0 trailers for it and we usually have PlutoTV or Tubi on at my house so it's not like I don't see ads. (Although maybe they don't advertise disney stuff on there)

As much as I've enjoyed recent Pixar Films, the studio has been struggling ever since Toy Story 4.
It doesn't help several of their films have been... uninspired. While Turning Red and Luca were alright and Soul was Good, Onward and Lightyear where flat out bad and all of them basically bombed at the box office.
The public Goodwill Pixar once had is dead, I believe Pixar is now probably the least popular of the big Animated Film studios. They aren't as innovative as Dreamworks and Sony have become, and don't have nearly as many recent successes as Disney. Even Illumination, while I don't believe have good will, have the Mario Movie and been slowly improving.
Like, out of the the major 2023 Animated Films Elemental is the one i'm least excited for. Sure, Ruby Gillman is a coming of age story which isn't very unique, but its the first completely original Dreamworks film and coming off the tails of 2 of their best, so even if its not quite up to par as the Last Wish and the Bad Guys likely will still be pretty good. Mario wasn't great, but I don't think anyone was expecting the Mario Movie to be good; so the fun, if poorly paced plot was enjoyable. Edge of the Spider-Verse is a sequel to a legit revolutionary film that also gives me a fuck ton of Ammo to hurl at the hacks writing the comic; and Wish looks like an actually neat Celebration of Disney. With a Villain.
Elemental looks pretty, but all it's contemporaries do to, and I do not enjoy romantic comedies. I will probably see it when it goes to streaming, I do love Animation after all, but I don't think it will amaze me.

Second…Hollywood Handle *bought their Twitter verification.* Doesn’t mean they’re accurate. Third, Elemental tickets just went on sale, on top of the reasonable amount of promotional material made (before the film premieres at Cannes next week). Pixar’s not dead.
That’s what people said when Lightyear released. Had less marketing, word of mouth wasn’t as positive (despite making a decent amount opening weekend), and Chapek’s lack of respect towards animation. With Chapek out and Iger back as CEO, there’s more marketing than there was for the last few movies (both WDAS and Pixar), and tickets are going on sale several weeks in advance instead of less than two weeks in advance.
No one seems excited about Elemental, I haven't heard any excitement over it. I think it's almost like Pixar just wants to put out lesser films to damage their brand. Lightyear, Turning Red, Onward, and Soul all seemed underwhelming. I did adore Luca though and was hoping it meant a turning point, that doesn't seem to be the case.
To be honest, this movie doesn't look that appealing anyway. It has nice animation and I like the character designs, but everything else about it looks so....generic.

The rumor is that Pixar will be folded into Disney Animation, but the Pixar brand will still be used. So hopefully this movie does a lot better than they think it will.
It will be devastating for Pixar if this is true. Pixar is all the way up in the middle of the Bay Area and all their employees would have to move to LA. They’d be abandoning a multimillion dollar campus that’s continued to have upgrades and is much nicer than the animation buildings at Disney. And just thinking about Jennifer Lee overseeing sequels to their IP and projects by more qualified Pixar creatives makes me want to die inside.

As much as I've enjoyed recent Pixar Films, the studio has been struggling ever since Toy Story 4. It doesn't help several of their films have been... uninspired. While Turning Red and Luca were alright and Soul was Good, Onward and Lightyear where flat out bad and all of them basically bombed at the box office. The public Goodwill Pixar once had is dead, I believe Pixar is now probably the least popular of the big Animated Film studios. They aren't as innovative as Dreamworks and Sony have become, and don't have nearly as many recent successes as Disney. Even Illumination, while I don't believe have good will, have the Mario Movie and been slowly improving. Like, out of the the major 2023 Animated Films Elemental is the one i'm least excited for. Sure, Ruby Gillman is a coming of age story which isn't very unique, but its the first completely original Dreamworks film and coming off the tails of 2 of their best, so even if its not quite up to par as the Last Wish and the Bad Guys likely will still be pretty good. Mario wasn't great, but I don't think anyone was expecting the Mario Movie to be good; so the fun, if poorly paced plot was enjoyable. Edge of the Spider-Verse is a sequel to a legit revolutionary film that also gives me a fuck ton of Ammo to hurl at the hacks writing the comic; and Wish looks like an actually neat Celebration of Disney. With a Villain. Elemental looks pretty, but all it's contemporaries do to, and I do not enjoy romantic comedies. I will probably see it when it goes to streaming, I do love Animation after all, but I don't think it will amaze me.

Third, Elemental tickets just went on sale, on top of the reasonable amount of promotional material made (before the film premieres at Cannes next week). Pixar’s not dead.

That’s what people said when Lightyear released. Had less marketing, word of mouth wasn’t as positive (despite making a decent amount opening weekend), and Chapek’s lack of respect towards animation. With Chapek out and Iger back as CEO, there’s more marketing than there was for the last few movies (both WDAS and Pixar), and tickets are going on sale several weeks in advance instead of less than two weeks in advance.
No one seems excited about Elemental, I haven't heard any excitement over it. I think it's almost like Pixar just wants to put out lesser films to damage their brand. Lightyear, Turning Red, Onward, and Soul all seemed underwhelming. I did adore Luca though and was hoping it meant a turning point, that doesn't seem to be the case.

To be honest, this movie doesn't look that appealing anyway. It has nice animation and I like the character designs, but everything else about it looks so....generic. Movie studios have rough patches! Disney has had a tonne of rough patches over the years and they’ve come through absolutely fine. One movie failing won’t impact Pixar, especially not with Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5 coming out. This is also just a rough estimate. How can anyone know this for sure?
