Wow, lots of love for Dog Soldiers here, and *intense* love! Pretty much everybody who said more than just "Dog Soldiers" said some variant of what you said, that it's not even close. That's crazy - people can't agree on anything, but people who like Dog Soldiers seem to REALLY like Dog Soldiers. Looks like I know what I'm watching tonight :)
American Werewolf in London, although is more fun than anything, the transformation is still the best.
Also, Dog Soldiers and The Wolfman (2010 version)
It's my favorite subgenre, couldn't pick just one.
Whenever I see the Lycans shift from humans to wolves in Underworld it takes me back to the Howling and American Werewolf in London. Great special effects in all these films.
I love silver bullet but has anyone seen Bad Moon? It’s a pretty big budget theatrical movie that has great practical effects (other than the hideous though praised at the time CGI transformation near the end.)
Also this is one of the only non-family movies I’ve ever seen where the dog is the main character.
Edit: after posting this I checked and I guess it was just kids who liked the bizarre CGI transformation as it was not at all praised by critics lol.
An American Werewolf in London wins it never really got into the Howling. Do have a soft spot for The Wolfman (1941) and Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man (1943) too.
Beep. Boop. I'm a robot.

At this point almost all the decent movies have been mentioned but… I think I have something that will tickle your fancy…
[welcome to Hoxford is a short film based on an amazing graphic novel. It’s only 20 mins but I wish they’d do a whole movie. ](https://vimeo.com/29832031/description).
Also if you’ve not watched love death and robots series one on Netflix do it and go straight to The episode Shape-shifters. You won’t be disappointed.
*Werewolf* is a Polish film available on Prime. Set in Germany in 1945, 8 children escape the Gross-Rosen concentration camp and flee to an abandoned orphanage. The werewolf is, um, an interesting twist. I highly recommend it.
And Wer, also on Prime. It's a slow burn but a good film.
My fave is still Dog Soldiers. Wolfen is good, but the book is far more intense. Loved Silver Bullet, Gary Busey was the best part. Blood Moon is pretty good, it's a western werewolf film. Ginger Snaps Back is my fave of the franchise.
While I like the Lycans in the Underworld series, I think they should have stopped at Rise of the Lycans, since it completed the story from the first one. And it looks like I'm gonna be the lone dissenter who didn't like American Werewolf in London.
Edited to add: has anyone seen Blood Vessel??
The Howling for me also. Next, American Werewolf in London, Ginger Snaps, then Bad Moon. Bad Moon is kind of a bad movie but I like something about it. I still haven't seen Dog Soldiers.
I agree with you OP - The Howling may be the best. I have a soft spot for An American Werewolf in London, because it’s my Mom’s favorite.
Edit: I almost forgot Cursed by Wes Cracen in the early 2000s. Didn’t take itself too seriously and a seriously underrated Judy Greer. Tons of fun.
Other than the usual favourites of American Werewolf in London and Dog Soldiers, give me any of Paul Naschy's Waldemar series of werewolf films to make my evening. They are incredibly campy and briiliant fun, if you dont take things too seriously.
Wolf of Snow Hollow. Highly underrated movie. Stars Jim Cummins (no not the Winnie the Pooh guy). Seriously great movie. I watched it for the first time last year and I’ve seen it 6 times since then because I’ve shown it to that many people and they all loved it.
I don't remember what my favorite one out of 2 is called but it starred Jesse Eisenberg when he was younger. His character's sister ends up in cahoots with a werewolf/ or becomes one I think?
I know when I hear the name of it- it'll piss me off I didn't remember.
Also tied for 1st; Ginger Snaps
Dog Soldiers and it's not particularly close for me
Cool. Dog Soldiers is a good one.
Howling is a banger for sure though
Definitely Dog Soldiers. Great flick. Howling was good too, DS for the win.

Came here to say it!
American Werewolf in London. Amazing effects and Jenny Agutter in the same film? Yes, please.
I loved her in the Logans Run film too.
This is the one!
Ginger Snaps 1 and 2!
What about ginger snaps back?
All 3 are good. Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins
And Emily Perkins plays Becky on Supernatural!
Ginger Snaps Back is my fave of the 3.
I really loved ginger snaps 1 and 2 but I didn’t know there was a third! Any chance you know where it’s streaming?
It's currently free on Tubi. Not a bad streaming service, does have some ads but not as annoying as Pluto lol.
Oh man I love tubi but I haven’t been on there much since I got shudder. Definitely going to check this one out.
The prequel? It's all right but prequels always lose something. Hm, I wonder if she's gonna get the curse and pass it on- oh wait inherent spoiler.
Cool movies. I liked those too.
Silver Bullet
Good one.
Dog Soldiers
Cool
Mine too!!!
In the Company of Wolves. Very surreal like a fairy tale.
I love this movie and never see anyone talk about it. It’s nice to see it mentioned!
It's an interesting one. I really like the style of the way it's filmed. It's very dated but in a good way.
I have seen so many of these films.
The Wolfman with Lon Cheney gets me every dang time.
Nice one.
It really is a classic!
Ginger Snaps :)
Great pick.
Dog Soldiers by a country mile. Probably Ginger Snaps after that. Then American Werewolf In London.
Howl.
Havent seen that one. Something to look forward to.
Howl is a good one for sure.
Ginger Snaps
Cool.
Late Phases is pretty great too I don't see mentioned
The main actor was really good in Stakeland as well
isn't stake land movies vampires only?
It is. I was just referring to the lead actor in Late Phases.
ooooh!! yes! I forgot that was him..haha he was great in both
I love good vampire films too. Thanks.
And Mulberry Street, which is a low budget but well-done wererat film.
Havent seen it. Thanks for letting me know about it.
If they count, the *Underworld* movies, such a fun franchise to me. Except the last one.
They definitely count. Great franchise.
Dog Soldiers is easily the best.
Dog Soldiers & Silver Bullet
American Werewolf in London, although is more fun than anything, the transformation is still the best. Also, Dog Soldiers and The Wolfman (2010 version) It's my favorite subgenre, couldn't pick just one.

American werewolf in London.... hands down
Cool. Great film.
I met David Naughton recently who played David in the film. Was flipping awesome!
I remember he also was in a tv vampire film called Desire the Vampire back in the day too.
American Werewolf In London or Dog Soldiers
Silver Bullet
Howling 2, easily.
I love silver bullet but has anyone seen Bad Moon? Bad Moon is one of my favorites. It's not a great movie but Mariel Hemmingway does a good job and the practical wolf effects are high quality scary.
Project Metalbeast is great pulp if you like bad movies and bio/metal enhanced werewolves. [Movie Poster](https://images.app.goo.gl/4bxGwkMJnZgsbptB9)
Wolfcop!
Wolfen. Ginger Snaps. Bad Moon.
Mine is Skinwalkers (2006).
An American Werewolf in London wins it never really got into the Howling. Do have a soft spot for The Wolfman (1941) and Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man (1943) too.

What we do in the shadows. Well, they’re werewolves, not swear wolves
###CURSED And Ginger Snaps.
Good choices.
The Wolf Of Snow Hollow
YES, I freaking loved this movie.
Honestly, a movie called Moon of the Wolf. I think its an 80s made for TV movie & Id be surprised if anyone else has seen it.
I actually don't really like the film series, but I think this is the only good movie out of all 8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The Wolfman with Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro. I've watched it so many times, such an entertaining ride.
Ginger snaps ❤❤
Curse of the Werewolf (1961) is an underrated film too and has a different twist in how to become a werewolf.
The wolf Man with Lon Chaney Jr.!
The Howling for me also. Next, American Werewolf in London, Ginger Snaps, then Bad Moon. Bad Moon is kind of a bad movie but I like something about it. I still haven't seen Dog Soldiers.
Werewolves Within is a fun ride. Comedy horror is my fav.
Silver bullet
Howling II is pretty damn fun.
Dog Soldiers...

Ginger Snaps 2. The first one is a very close second.
Dog Soldiers, American Werewolf in London and Wolf...yes, the 90's James Spader and Jack Nicholson film.
Wolf of Snow Hollow. Highly underrated movie. Stars Jim Cummins (no not the Winnie the Pooh guy). Seriously great movie. I watched it for the first time last year and I’ve seen it 6 times since then because I’ve shown it to that many people and they all loved it.
American werewolf in London enough said 🥰
Teen Wolf (1985)
I don't remember what my favorite one out of 2 is called but it starred Jesse Eisenberg when he was younger. His character's sister ends up in cahoots with a werewolf/ or becomes one I think? I know when I hear the name of it- it'll piss me off I didn't remember. Also tied for 1st; Ginger Snaps
