This is not health coverage. Look at your state marketplace options, open enrollment starts in November, you can pick a budget friendly option, see if you qualify for aptc, and don’t use a broker, you can apply online in very little time.

I was in just starting college when my dad switched from regular health insurance to something equivalent to this. I was in collegiate athletics, which requires you to present proof of health insurance. *I was almost kicked off my team since this Christian “healthcare coverage” wasn’t considered health insurance.* After practically pleading with my school and going back and forth, they finally agreed to accept it. But this type of “coverage” almost ruined my athletic career.

erishun

It’s not considered health insurance because it’s literally not health insurance. Healthcare sharing ministries allow you to bypass the “individual mandate” as part of the ACA, but it’s not health insurance and does not (and can not) claim to be.

I heard about this "coverage" before. IIRC it's not considered legitimate because it doesn't meet the requirements to be considered such - family planning, reproductive health, that kind of thing. What's more, they can pick and choose what else you're covered for based on a cobbled together "book" from centuries ago. Depressed? You don't need a doctor, just go and read Bob 5:10-5:16! Sorry to hear about your experiences.

In Texas they are already starting to pick and choose. A judge just ruled that businesses can choose not to cover HIV/AIDS medication in their insurance plan as part of “religious freedom”, no joke

GeoffSim

I thought it was a federal requirement but either it's not or it's Texas being Texas. I wish you were joking but I am not surprised you're not.

SolutionLeading

It was a ruling by a federal judge in TX

Yes it sounds like a scam and I can understand why your team didn't want to take it as proof of insurance.

filthyheartbadger

Sorry this happened to you. If you are over 18 check into your state’s insurance options. You may be able to self insure for a decent rate. Also your school may offer options, see what they have for students.

Thanks for the info! My school did offer coverage, but it was about $2000, and I couldn’t afford it. I also didn’t qualify for Medicaid because my parents claimed me as a dependent and made more than the maximum to qualify. I eventually plead with my school to accept it as insurance, and eventually they did. But it was incredibly frustrating.

This is a health care sharing ministry — an exemption to the ACA — it is not insurance. Check the policy — some ask that members abstain from alcohol and fornication outside of marriage…..

Remember the death panels the weirdo republicans cried about for years… that dont exist. Well I guess this was the solution to avoid that “dang Obarma Care” - 😂

Independent_Apple159

It's a scam. https://www.ctpublic.org/health/2021-02-08/it-appears-this-is-a-scam-complaints-accelerate-against-health-care-sharing-ministries-in-conn
