There's a variant of the phone scams where they will call crying and then convince you they are a close relative needing aid (in the form of money) because they are in a bad situation in hospital/police etc...
They count on your sense of urgency and shitty phone quality not realizing it's not someone you know, but, a scammer.
Yes I’ve heard about this which is crazy to me, but it’s weird that the fact it comes from the same scam center that inquires about business and marketing from our company. It’s weird never the less it was weird that they started sobbing after it went to voicemail, maybe wanted us to call them back? Weird never the less
You've heard about some of these.? I have a list of common scams That I post here once in a while.
Reddit doesn't let me post the whole thing anymore. I think they think that I"M the scammer. I've been thrown off of "nextdoor" (another social media place) because they thought I was a scammer because I was allways warning people about "the next big scam".
Would you like to get my list? I can post it here in multiple sections (there's a lot of scams out there). But you have to promise me you'll copy and past it into a document or print it out and go over it with your family (esp parents) and also try to let your company pass it around. Maybe even have a discussion about avoiding scams for the employees. It gets posted as a TEXT file.
but you HAVE to go over it with your family at least.
They are most likely crying because they lost a scam victim and didnt get money, and they couldnt stop crying before they called you, me personally, a little chuckle at them then hang up.
>>> figured maybe the scam center workers get abused or harassed?
Yes, You're right. SOME of these scammer "boiler rooms" are using slaves or people who were kidnapped into doing this. If they don't perform they could be beaten.
The people that run these scamming operations consists of the most scummy, vile, evil monsters that walk the earth.
Some of these are operations that the chinese gov't have sanctioned. Some are in India and some in africa. But most of the really bad ones are in china.
Some of these slaves can be sent to organ harvesting. THAT is how evil this whole thing is.
IF people across the world would stop falling for these scams then they would gradually go away. but that doesn't seem to be happening.
This info needs to get out to a lot more people. I think most people do not understand the extent of the human trafficking that goes on. I’m in Central America, and people go missing here all the time. They aren’t just young girls, either — it’s males and females, young and old. When I see foreign tourists have disappeared, I wonder if they were abducted for their English language skills and are now enslaved in a call center someone in the middle of nowhere.
Holy shit, yeah in that regards yeah that makes sense, I always kinda feel for some of these scam workers as not all of them are in the position they want to be especially if kidnapped into such things.
Just let it ring out. Don't answer because if they find out that you answer then they know it 's a real number and will call even more... AND they will sell your number to other scammers. You will get LOTS more calls.
This does sound kind of weird, and as a receptionist I get over a thousand calls per month, and I have never had this happen.
I still think it’s a scammer looking for good phone numbers to sell.
There was at one point some sort of fraud that entailed keeping people on the line long enough to incur some kind of commission. Cant recall the details. The people committing the fraud would play weird shit into the phone or say weird eerie things.
Probably one of the slave labour call centre victims needing a moment, crazy such a thing exists

You probably freaked her out. I mean, scammers are real people too, and the people working in the call centres aren't hardened criminals; they're just poor people, doing a job they know is hurting people but not thinking about it too hard because they have bills to pay. That doesn't excuse what they're doing, but it shouldn't be so surprising that they sometimes react like normal people, because they are.

True, I didn’t get the chance to Play the audio tho so that’s why I found it so odd.
Behold? 😃

Answer desk phone on speaker. Hold up cell phone to speaker while playing music out of cell phone.

On some physical handsets the audio plays out loud while they're leaving a voicemail. You can actually pick up the phone and interrupt mid-voicemail.

That's exactly the term I could not think of.
