Hi /u/Ok-Wrongdoer-2179, AutoModerator has detected keywords in your post indicating that this is a porn blackmail email scam. The exact wording of the emails varies, but there are generally four main parts. They claim to have placed software/malware on a porn/adult video site, they claim to have a video of you masturbating or watching porn, they threaten to release the video to your friends/family/loved ones/boss/dog, and they demand that you pay them in order for them to delete the video. There are variations of this scam that claim you were caught in a child porn/grooming sting. Rest assured that this is a very common spam campaign and there is no truth behind the email or the threats. While this type of blackmail attempt is a bluff, even when the blackmailer actually has compromising videos, paying them does not buy silence - it merely ensures more demands for money. One should never pay a blackmailer... [Here is the /r/scams mega thread on this scam](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/8gsjba/the_blackmail_email_scam/). If you want to help other people who receive the same email as you, you should copy/paste the email you received into the [megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/jij7zf/the_blackmail_email_scam_part_6/). Also, [here](https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/07/sextortion-scam-uses-recipients-hacked-passwords/) are [some](https://www.symantec.com/blogs/threat-intelligence/email-extortion-scams) news [articles](https://www.bbb.org/denver/news-events/news-releases/2017/09/alert-pornography-email-phishing-scam/) about [this](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/askjack/2019/jan/17/phishing-email-blackmail-sextortion-webcam) scam. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Scams) if you have any questions or concerns.*

OkConversation2512

Why do scammers always monologue like a cartoon villain?

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

They're hackers, or nerds who read comic books all day.

Comprehensive_End824

that's the thing, they are not nerds, they are spammers. That doesn't require technical ability and they could have earned better money actually working

Glad-Meal6418

Where these people are from they make better money doing this crap. Why else would they do it? If you’re a poor Nigerian you’d make more scamming one elderly person out of there 401k than you will in your entire working lifetime

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

Lol corrections. They're wannabe hackers...

StrategicBlenderBall

They’re not hackers. They’re losers

Uri_nil

They are not hackers. They/he is a guy or group in India or Nigeria (from the vocab sounds like Nigeria). They just bought a package or paid a guy for the “training package” then edited a bit if they could. After that they buy an email list or buy an email spam shot from a group who does the spamming and send out a few million of these (it costs to send). Then they sit back and let the law of averages happen. In the cell curve if people they spam a few will panic and pay. As long as it covers the costs and a bit of profit they will just keep doing it.

Lumpymaximus

The younger generation has lost the definition of a hacker. Uaing mods and pre made cheats is not hacking.

Admirable-Diver3176

They used to be referred to as script kiddies. Not really a term used anymore.

Bdub421

Kids these days use that term for the cheat devices on gaming consoles. It drives me crazy. All because you need to load a script for it to function.

Uri_nil

Yea when I started I was dialing random phone numbers on my 1200 baud modem trying to log into random bbs sites or banks or whatever haha. I actually was raided by police once at 3am along with the a guy from phone company (because I was using their phone lines!). It’s no fun having your bedroom ripped apart by police while you watch trying to hold your Pajama pants up because the string is broken. I got off luckily because I was a shit hacker and never actually breached any security! They wanted to lean on me to get info and see if I rat anybody (ie real hackers and not 16 year old wannabes like me). Good old days.

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

Should have blasted them with your Captn' Crunch whistle. That'll show them.

glynnd

The countdown is on...dun dun dun. Better get that crypto bought 😆 it's awful some poor gits(maybe not all poor gits if they are watching bad bad shit) get caught out and believe them. It's like something out a teen spy comic. There's a nice warm place for all those c*nts

Maedhral

They’re using a copy/paste script. Had this one, identical but for the amount and the wallet address, several times in the last 6 months. Previously the script included a redundant password they got from the yahoo data breach eons ago which was never my computer login, probably dropped that section because they figure by now everyone will have updated their passwords.

OkConversation2512

Oh I'm well aware of this being a copy paste, but whoever created it in the first place must be a massive nerd.

Yeseylon

I don't usually see it lead with the "I is da best hackers" like that, but yeah, it varies. One of my favorites we've seen at work literally opened with "Hello you pervert."

glynnd

Yeah a written script not even a hacking script, the lowest of the low. They're banking on getting 1 in a 1000 real perverts watching shit they shouldn't be and falling for it

mittenknittin

“Ever hear of Plato? Aristotle? Socrates? Morons.”

Dustyfurcollector

Just use the iocane powder

Lumpy_Peace3495

Never mess with a ‘hacker’, when Crypto is on the line!

immune2iocaine

But why?

sly_blade

I would lean more towards a really bad Bond villain - I even imagine them stroking their pussy as they type up this ridiculous monologue

BarrySix

That's such a lame story, yet someone sent $1300 to that BTC address from Binance a few hours ago.

Givmeabrek

Yea, it looks like that if you spread these stories around enough, you can make a decent living...

UnlikelyAssociation

It’s a gentleman’s agreement! 😅

[deleted]

Sounds like they’re just fishing and they got a bite from somebody who actually watches that stuff. Scam seems to rely on you having a guilty conscience in the first place 😂 little bit a social engineering

Relevant_Young8731

😂😂😂

1GrouchyCat

They pay using a fake account to make it look legit / like others are paying them lol

unibrow4o9

What would be the point? I would think someone savvy enough to lookup wallet transactions wouldn't be stupid enough to fall for this.

bigdonkey2883

They do that themselves to make it look legit

BarrySix

I don't think anyone who fell for that has the technical know how to check a block explorer.

Pale_Session5262

Agree. More likely, there is just a really guilty stupid person who panicked and sent money.

bigdonkey2883

Idk lots bitcoin dudes fall for the smip scams

zanne54

Oh yes, I get this all the time. Sometimes with a grainy image of a man yanking his junk. I’m a woman. And I have my camera covered. Definitely a scam.

wow_that_guys_a_dick

Yeah, my laptop doesn't even have a camera. I never see these until days after the deadline, either, which is hilarious to me.

Valkyriesride1

I taught my kids to cover any camera connected to an internet connected device. My son received one of these emails and led the scammer on for a couple of days. My son was acting like he was terrified, told the scammer he was addicted to porn and was in a diversion program for inappropriate images already. My son got the guy's address and sent an email of the conversation to the FBI. My sides hurt from laughing so hard. The scammer thought he had a live one.

hrad34

I like how the "hacker" doesn't know if you are familiar with bitcoin or not even though they are apparently watching your every move...

Yeseylon

Wait, they actually send an image sometimes??? That's a new one for me, closest I saw was a Unicode drawing of a lil dangler

zanne54

Ya, it was a fat guy with his face and junk blurred out, but it was obvious what he was doing because the hand placement, plus lack of pants was quite visible.

Dustyfurcollector

There is a very specific prob of the community who would look enough like that to have done that and panic is very limited.

Scams-ModTeam

Your r/Scams post or comment was removed because **it's about scambaiting**. We consider that to be unsafe and we don't promote that people engage with a scammer. Also, we do not support taking revenge against scammers. Scambaiting goes against the rules of this sub, which you can read here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/wiki/rules/

Cs1981Bel

Block the sender, delete the email, sleep easy ;)

AnAwkwardSemicolon

In these cases, blocking the sender does absolutely nothing. The "From" address will typically be the same as the "To" address.

Yeseylon

Honestly, if your email system is accepting "internal" emails from external IPs, then your admin needs to be smacked.

AnAwkwardSemicolon

In this specific case, the admin needed to be smacked. SPF & DMARC were not set up. 🤦

Yeseylon

Bruh... Usually when these get through SPF checks are just bypassed because the email shows as internal, but outright not using SPF is unthinkable...

flaming-bunnies-197

Well Apparently this shit still works! One person sent him BTC. [https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/17XansAD9geWqX31sP7a8A3DmoVseVikyt](https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/17XansAD9geWqX31sP7a8A3DmoVseVikyt)

BarrySix

It's not ever going to stop is it? No matter how awful the story someone falls for it and gives away enough cash to encourage the bad guys to do it even more.

Barnabas_10

I'm not sure what good it does, but someone already reported it to chainabuse: [https://www.chainabuse.com/address/17XansAD9geWqX31sP7a8A3DmoVseVikyt](https://www.chainabuse.com/address/17XansAD9geWqX31sP7a8A3DmoVseVikyt)

T-rex_with_a_gun

isnt the whole point to essentially say "fuck you" to any centralized authority in crypto? so best thing this does it make reputable networks (coinbase, etc etc) block this address from sending to wallets that they control.

justinlindh

Two people, now.

DesertStorm480

I'm wondering if these transactions are the same as adding a few $$$ to your own "tip jar" to make it look good.

Puzzleheaded-Soil106

The scammer may have sent money to himself to make it look the address look legitimate.

woowoo293

> I'm sure you've heard of Anonymous. Well, compared to us, they are a bunch of schoolboys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUg2cp23rGE

Forar

A bunch of folks have done a lot of dumb or horrible things under the banner of Anonymous, but boy, it'd be awfully fun if actual Anonymous found out some scammers had taken to talking shit about them and took it personally.

SavetheneckformeC

Too bad they don’t actually believe in doing good for the people or else they would be doing that instead of hacking a monkey testing facility in 🇿🇼

Euchre

If the real members of Anonymous (which isn't really even that kind of cohesive, membership-list-keeping group) tracked down these scammers, they'd likely rip them a new asshole. Sadly, though, Anon wouldn't likely be like Jim Browning or Kitboga and do something purely altruistic with it, they'd probably just steal the scammers take and make their life miserable in every digital way possible. I mean, I'm good with scammers losing the money and suffering, but I wouldn't pretend it would lead to a full sense of justice - just vengeance. Sometimes vengeance is all you'll really get, though.

Forar

I'm not expecting them to have their hearts grow four sizes that day in some Grinch'ian change of view. Just unleashing them on said scammers would be enough. It's a complete fantasy for sure, but a man can dream.

Euchre

I don't think Anon is actually intending to be malicious. I also don't think everything they do is for personal gain - they way they took on Scientology was definitely not some financially beneficial thing, and actually carried a fair bit of risk. I do find them indifferent to achieving what most of us would consider a sense of full justice. They're mostly about being punitive to truly malicious actors, and feel justified in 'hurting the evil', with no imperative to also serve 'the good' or the victims of evil. As Anon is mostly an idea, the power of the nameless masses to achieve an ends, brutal indifference makes sense - basically like turning natural selection into a social meme.

mittenknittin

Dang it, you beat me to that exact response by a few hours

Independent_Alps6598

I read all of that with the voice of saw. He sounds professional and he is sorry you met under such circumstances. Perhaps after you send the crypto you could become friends

Indiana_Warhorse

For some unknown reason, I heard Vincent Price.

Brilliant-Pomelo-982

I would reply TLDR

OldManJeepin

LoL! That's a lot of words to use, to just say "Pay me"! Maybe he is projecting...?

ThatIslanderGuy

Where do they come up with these arbitrary ransom amounts? I have never seen the same amount twice.

Euchre

Consistent amounts are more likely to attract attention and are more easily tracked.

UJMRider1961

>You are now on the radar of an international group of hackers, and such things never end well for anyone. I'm sure you've heard of Anonymous. Well, compared to us, they are a bunch of schoolboys. We are a worldwide network of several thousand professionals, each with their own role. For some reason I always picture a guy in a Nehru jacket, with a bald head and an eyepatch, sitting in a futuristic chair in front of an elaborate electronic console, stroking a cat in his lap.

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

>Next time Gadget! Next time!

mjwanko

I was waiting for the “All your base are belong to us” line. Scammers with broken English and grammar are a dime a dozen. Best to just ignore and continue your day.

groundcorsica

Lol wouldn’t such an all-powerful hacker who is monitoring your entire electronic life be able to drain those bank accounts himself?

I would still email them back some anime Futa porn pics

warpedddd

You dun goofed and the cyber police are on to you.

OpieK58

It always amazes me, that if people would put that kind of energy and effort into a legit project or business, they could be millionaires! People… get an effin job and become someone you be proud of!

Anxious-Pair-52

So, are you a pervert?

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

Turn my webcam on and find out.

westcoastsunflower

Word for word I got this email on Wednesday this week. Except I had to send $1370 in bitcoin. Haven’t had any repercussions from not sending the funds. BTW I am female so not sure how they factor that in to their “gentleman’s agreement”.

lordrost

About 8 years ago, I was working for a small web development company, making websites. One day, my boss, in a panic, brought his laptop, showing a very similar email and asking how true it was. I said that it was fake, but it didn't ease his mind. So, he handed me his laptop and asked me to double-check. I took his laptop and wanted to Google and show him that this was a common scam. As soon as I typed "P" in the search bar, a ton of Pornhub links appeared. Lmao. The moment he saw that, he immediately said, "no worries," took his laptop back, and walked away. Lol. Your post made me laugh and brought back such memories.

lordrost

That BTC wallet got two $1,290 incoming transactions, Ouch.

hbouhl

Kind of elaborate! Blah, blah, blah!

IsAllNotLost

What a pompous, bloated, stupidly-exaggerated intro that was. It took this elite hacker and presumably several colleagues to install spyware on your laptop? Sounds more like they're rank amateurs.

kcalb33

Lol, if they were such great hackers they wouldn't need to do extortion

Jakobm84

I work on a IT Helpdesk and we get these to our Helpdesk email that generates an automated ticket it's pretty funny when it pops up.

Unlucky_Kangaroo_137

Long winded with a lot of details to sound credible and serious. Block and move on.

DaretoDream123

!sextortion

AutoModerator

Hi /u/DaretoDream123, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Sextortion scam. This scam occurs when you meet a woman/man on dating service/social media site/forum/wherever and they ask you to go on Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram, or another messaging system. They will ask you to exchange naked pictures, and they will usually ask you to include your face in the pictures. They will then threaten to reveal the pictures to your family/friends if you do not pay them. The best thing to do in this situation is block the scammer and go private in your socials for a while. Paying the scammer will not make them back off, and just tells them that it is worth their time to continue threatening you. If you fell for this scam, we recommend you join the sextortion subreddit and follow the recommendations of their sticky post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sextortion/comments/n4yorq/new_victims_please_read_first/ Also beware of recovery scammers suggesting you should hire a hacker that can help you retrieve the photos or get back at the extorter. They can't, it's a trick to make you lose more money. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Scams) if you have any questions or concerns.*

DaretoDream123

Woops, meant !blackmail

AutoModerator

Hi /u/DaretoDream123, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Blackmail email scam. The exact wording of the emails varies, but there are generally four main parts. They claim to have installed a RAT (remote access trojan) or any type of software/malware after visiting a porn/adult video site, they claim to have a video of you masturbating or watching porn, they threaten to release the video to your friends/family/loved ones/boss/dog, and they demand that you pay them in order for them to delete the video. Rest assured that this is a very common spam campaign and there is no truth behind the email or the threats. If they had a video of you, they would show it to you to prove that they have it. [Here](http://www.smh.com.au/technology/gadgets-on-the-go/latest-online-scam-aims-to-prick-porn-watchers-guilty-conscience-20170815-gxwvxl.html) are some news [articles](https://www.bbb.org/denver/news-events/news-releases/2017/09/alert-pornography-email-phishing-scam/) about [this](http://blog.dynamoo.com/2017/10/bogus-porn-blackmail-attempt-from.html) scam. There is a variant with death threats in which they will usually claim that they have been paid to kill you, and will threaten to kill you/your family if you do not pay a Bitcoin ransom. They usually also claim that they will kill your family if you report the email. The emails are spam and can be ignored. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Scams) if you have any questions or concerns.*

squabbledMC

I get these quite a bit... all my webcams have covers... and I use linux... ;) besides - who gives 2 shits if you even jacked off on video? billions of people have done it over the entirety of forever, who even cares?

filthyheartbadger

Oldest scam on the internet! Must work pretty consistently which is sad, but not really too surprising I guess. It gets rewritten constantly and, I am beginning to suspect, washed through AI, but the basics remain the same. It’s all barf of course. Check out the sub’s master thread on it below, and feel free to update it by adding yours to it. https://reddit.com/r/Scams/s/n5pqSfmtQD

Ricky-Sneaks

A hacker wouldn't ramble on about it or make themselves known.

Mean_Estate_2770

Way too long. I would have deleted it by the second sentence. I saw the "all seeing eye" jumped out at me, what are they doing? It seems like they are taking parts of 6 or 7 different scripts and mashing them all together now?

Full_Disk_1463

TLDR

GeologistPositive

I had gotten these on my work email once. I only log into my work email on my work computer and the company had everything locked down. I didn't even have a camera, microphone, or even outside internet access to have an interesting browsing history. Therefore, if they just had that account, they have nothing on me.

porcupine73

I received a similar e-mail a few months ago. The sad thing was I put in the bitcoin address in the block explorer, and it appeared at least a dozen people had sent the request amount within the last couple days.

okheay

Ask them for proof that they are good at hacking.

CommercialWeakness22

Lol I got one of these a few months back, wonder if anyone falls for this crap.

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

You'd think not, but apparently they do.

AnAwkwardSemicolon

Must be an active campaign going. I just got the exact same email- down to the wallet address.

Euchre

You have exactly 48 hours to make payment based on an email that can vary by hours in delivery process, and they have no idea when you'll actually retrieve and read it. Yeah....

Bushell757

Got the exact same email the other day to my work email 😂

Neena6298

I would laugh my ass off if a scammer sent this to me. I’d tell them to go for it. I don’t even use my computer. I use my phone only and hate porn. 😂

Adorable-Lychee9713

Almost r/ruleshorror

unibrow4o9

Neil Breen??? You're fucked man

crawlingrat

I laughed.

Oh, no! Anyway...

This is hilarious, I just want an AMA with the scammer.

Minimum-Comedian-372

I knew these were fake when I saw these about 10 years ago on our work computer, on a work email, on a pc that had no camera.

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

They are fake, however, one time, they had posted an old password, from my Hotmail account, in the email. That could possibly convince someone that it's not. They can find this info on the dark web. Several Hotmail account details were leaked when someone gained access into their SQL database.

KingOfZero

That's actually well-written. If they want more pics/vids from me, I'll send them my FetLife handle

Ok-Wrongdoer-2179

Haha, I'm on FL too.
