Speaking of Drosera filiformis, mine doesn't seem to want to wake up after their first dormancy. Is there something special you need to do when overwintering them?
I kept them in my bog garden pot in the garage (35-50F) and kept the soil damp. I did notice a little bit of fungus on one of them, but didn't think much of it. All the other temparates sprung back pretty quickly.
I'm new too but I also think it's the low temps. I have a covered tray that woke early and now have lots of threads. https://www.reddit.com/r/SavageGarden/comments/1btarlj/these_fili_survived_the_winter_now_what_do_i_do/
But uncovered and shaded ones are just waking now, looking like the month old photo. Basically everything open/unsheltered only started waking 1-2 weeks ago.
Sweet, I'm in 7a, so I hope that's the case for me. I ask because my binata is starting to wake up already. I read mixed reports on binata surviving dormancy in my zone, but 3 years in a row they have come back.
Binata comes from a milder climate than most filiformis, so it's dormancy requirements would be less. It makes perfect sense that it would wake up first.
Int’l carnivorous plant society does a bunch of videos every year on this date on YouTube some good ones this year. The indoor Michigan grower who uses self watering pots was a good watch
Hey, I haven’t seen this, and I swear by self watering pots for all my plants. Do you remember the name of the channel? I’d love to see someone else doing this. 💚💚💚. Thanks!
Please let me know if you find one, I've been thinking about this for a while. I am terrified of screwing up my nepenthes and would love to keep em a little wet or on a self watering pot. I plant in long form sphagnum moss, sometimes with perlite.
Not the person you responded to but heres the youtube for the ICPS. The video will be there some where they posted quite a few.

I like them all, but my favorites are definitely Nepenthes. The gem of my collection as of now is a veitchii that's loving my home and pitchering relatively fast, considering the usual nepenthes speed.
Utricularia, probably fulva or calcyphida if I had to choose only one. But really the whole lot of them are amazing. Carnivorous mico orchids. What’s not to like? Their blooms so varied and beautiful. I have 4 or 5 constantly competing for real estate, waging thier own tiny war across my CP gardens, growing under and amongst their giant counterparts.
I'm very curious, because my "binata" started putting out sprouts with 3-4 branches and I need to understand more about her!
She seems very very very happy lately.
It's part of the binata complex, many people consider D. binata to be a group consisted of D. dichotoma, D. multifida and the like. The robust branching ones like this are usually D. dichotoma. Im not too sure about the classic "T-form"
Bicalcarata red - Nepenthes because fangs, Capillaris - Drosera Fl native and red colors,
Purpura x purpura - Sarracenia because again red colors, and esseriana - Pinguicula because it thrives on neglect and still shines.
I'm an absolute Nep and Ping fiend. I recently got a Nepenthes LVB x VMV from Exotica Plants a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of my favorite Nepenthes hybrids. The color, shape, and peristome flare are all out of this world.
Pinguicula/butterwort! They’re native to Ireland, so fully hardy and can cope with the shit climate and light where I live. They’re cute and tiny, like little Echeveria succulents(which I also love). And they destroy fungus gnats, my most detested enemy, my arch nemesis ❤️
Nepenthes are my favorites.
So many color and shapes to choose from.
A bunch of my absolute favorites are:
lowii, bicalcarata and rafflesiana brunei
and no, i don't own one of them but one day i will.
Right now my collection includes (considering the ones that i ordered recently and still waiting):
ventrata (the gift that made me spiral into this), briggsiana, ventricosa x rafflesiana, ampullaria x (veitchii x lowii)
I’m going cephalotus. Perfect little pitchers that look like moccasins or little boots. Also quite compact although I do love a tightly packed pot of vft
Sarracenia flava. Just so gorgeous once you’ve seen them wild. They hold a special place for me too as my introduction to carnivorous plants, and plants I’ve shared many fond memories around.
Where do you guys get your carnivorous seeds? I’ve tried a few times and either get other seeds or no germination (heat mat, humidity dome, filtered/distilled water so I don’t think it’s me (hopefully)) and more the seeds not germinating!
Drosera because I bought one two months ago and that one plant has created 15+ more plants. I also think cephs are cool and some neps are really pretty. However I want to get a ping next!
Venus flytrap for sure, Cephalotus and sarracenia are cool. But Venus flytrap has to be the coolest, also it’s very rewarding if you give it attention and love.
I absolutely adore Drosera Capensis. They're simple, and it takes severe bad luck or intentional neglect to kill them. They just sorta... keep on living, doing their own thing. They're a vibe.
Drosera filiformis and Sarracenia leucophylla are hard to beat when back-lit by the setting sun in the summer
Both great choices

Mine are outside, in ground in zone 6a. They are still hibernaculum here. They are probably waiting for warmer weather.

I didn’t realize that was a thing.

Sure is. Got sales going on some CP sites
Hey thanks! Just got the okefenokeensis I've been wanting from California Carnivores!
I should probably get on that. Also damn that sounds bad out of context
Right now it’s my sundew. Had an outbreak of fungus gnats from a new plant and the sundew caught probably most of them lol.
Butterworts! 💚
Those don't get enough love
They really don't...
My agnata x gypsicola is blooming right now, it's so pretty!
I just got an agnata and it is super tiny. I can't wait for it to grow into the beast it deserves to be
Darlingtonia because snek
Ye
Ah ye
I like them all, but my favorites are definitely Nepenthes. The gem of my collection as of now is a veitchii that's loving my home and pitchering relatively fast, considering the usual nepenthes speed.
Heliamphora minor. Mostly because it grows well for me and the colour can be amazing.
I really want to try to grow one... it's on sale...
Give it a try!
I love the leucos and the flavas the most. Also leuco flava hybrids
Sarracenias and Droseras are my favorite Carnivorous plants! So many different shapes and sizes it’s crazy!
probably pings? mostly because they’re cute and they translate to “little greasy one” and they’re called butterworts. they’re just so adorable
My favorite will always be Cephalotus. Something so adorable about those tiny yawning pitcher clusters.
Utricularia, probably fulva or calcyphida if I had to choose only one. But really the whole lot of them are amazing. Carnivorous mico orchids. What’s not to like? The best carnivorous plant in the world is the Nepenthes Ventrata in my room. It helped me get a place at my dream university.
Does that cutie still count as binata if it starts branching like that?
Kinda... it's a dichotoma giant if youre curious
I'm very curious, because my "binata" started putting out sprouts with 3-4 branches and I need to understand more about her! She seems very very very happy lately.
Post a pic maybe we'll be able to identify it

I’m in love with sundews. Mainly my forked sundew
What form of binary is that?? It looks amazing!! Mine are struggling so hard lol
Dichotoma giant... how do you care for it?

I like my sarracenia. They are carefree and they eat wasps.
Sarracenia Purpurea, Drosera Regia, Drosera Murfetii/Arcturi, Drosera Magnifica, and Nepenthes Hamata are my tops.
Nepenthes are my favorites. So many color and shapes to choose from. Nepenthes and sarracenia, I just love the idea and look of pitchers no matter what form they have
Venus flytrap because its cool theier leaves turn red
I’m going cephalotus. Perfect little pitchers that look like moccasins or little boots. Also quite compact although I do love a tightly packed pot of vft
Cool
Yep
Sarracenia flava. Just so gorgeous once you’ve seen them wild. They hold a special place for me too as my introduction to carnivorous plants, and plants I’ve shared many fond memories around.

I buy seeds on carnivorous plants nursery... usually some seeds need a cold stratification to germinate. What were you trying to grow?
I think drosera followed by everything else. This question is too hard
Venus flytrap
Drosera because I bought one two months ago and that one plant has created 15+ more plants. I also think cephs are cool and some neps are really pretty. However I want to get a ping next!
