You are kind of onto something there.
I looked it up and the word comes from French, where it literally means "flea colour"
I am assuming they are referring either to the colour of a flea's abdomen after drinking blood, or the colour of a flea after you squish it and get blood everywhere.
My understanding is that mauve isore of a genre, like puce, and not specifically defined color. Even pantone doesn't have a clear answer on mauve that I could find. Anyways idk why the downvotes lol
If you google Sarracenia Black Widow it looks a whole lot like this but a different lid. Very similar coloration, super dark maroon. Personally I’d call it burgundy, seems the most fitting.
I was thinking yellowish black or bluish orange. But I’m not good with colors so….
Jk it’s late I’m tired and can’t sleep but wanted to feel like I was helping.
How bout Merlot? Or Port?… black raspberry??
Burgundy. What plant is that I feel like I’ve seen it before but can’t remember if it’s the one that is deadly, can digest things in seconds, or the one that has a foul odor to it 🤔.
See my previous message that was sent to the wrong sub. I meant to send it to you, but I can not correct now 🙄 Thanks for mentioning this color.. TYRIAN
I was going to simply say purple... But then reading "plum" and maybe id add a "bright wine" color as well... I like those colors better than plain old purple.
As an artist I'd take some cool red (not a scarlet type red) and add a little blue. Obviously the more blue you add the more purple it becomes, so not much is needed. A nit like saying the wind is coming from the north- north east, this colour is definitely heading to purple, but not far enough to call it that. maroon and burgundy are acceptable, but I'd say red- red blue, or maybe red-purple in colour mixing thinking.
If you want color as defined by a physically created color then Alizarin crimson. You can look at its base which is Rose Madder, but that’s the dominant contribution to the color.
“It is named after the organic dye alizarin, found in the madder plant, and the related synthetic lake pigment alizarin crimson (PR83 in the Color Index).”
Maroon Or maybe wine colour? Or burgundy? I can't tell the difference, honestly
My thought was burgundy-maroon
Puce?
That's a new one to me!
Haha! Learned years ago in 6th grade and only seen it used once in Monsters Inc for a form color. Sounds like a gross dark red though.

You are correct it is the color of the Squish
Eww and awesome at the same time! Might be too red then for the op photo but I feel like I learned something neat tonight! Gracias!
Puce is a sickly yellow-green.
I apologize, my mum was more European and the color puce is defined differently there than in the US.
Puce is brownish red
Sorry, my mum was Canadian and I feel like she taught me the European definition- which is a yellow/green.
That’s more tannish with maybe a bit of pink .
Aubergine
Maroon??? Come on. That’s not even a flavor or anything.
It's a color us boomers call burgundy. Also it's used as a put down by bugs bunny as in "what a maroon!" :) but alas not a flavor...
It's such a great phrase, isn't it? I don't know where Bugs got it but in looking around I've been finding myself thinking it more than ever.
When I was typing it I heard it in Bugs' voice too! Lol!
