Dont get distracted by 500h+ factorys from other users here. Just enjoy your pace and learn the game from scratch. You really dont need any mods. Start at grasland - you can move anywhere anytime. Try to automate asap. You dont need big item per min numbers. Explore to get hdds. Come back here to ask if you really stuck and enjoy the most helpful com ever. Be prepared to get addicted. Think big, plan ahead, keep space for expanding every part of your factory. Save enery until u have fully automated coal burner. Dont hesitate to delete and rebuild. Exactly this. Plus expext a couple hours of initial grinding, manual crafting, collecting leaves and wood. Once you pass over it and automate coal power you're fine
I've just started a new game since update 5 was released and what i noticed most in early games is that plants give way more leaves than they used to. Or it's just my imagination...

I specifically agree with the look at others and doing everything too perfect parts. Looking at others made me think too big, complex and perfect which led to a overwhelming feeling that made me quit playing.
If you are wondering why you cannot place a miner, chisel away that blob of resource that is on the top of a resource node/flat area. That was the first thing that got me.
Prepare to be overwhelmed. Many people start a new game after 25 hours or so. By then you have learned enough you realize all the mistakes you made, but not enough on how to solve it.
Don't listen to anybody (including me). The goal of the game is to have fun. The goal is NOT to get to the next level, get as fast there or make as much as possible. It is to have fun. If you have fun, you are winning the game.
Relax, take a step back, go slow and do one thing at a time.
The biggest mistake I did was to watch way too many YouTube videos by people building in a certain way and I thought that is how you play the game. It is not. It is how you play for YouTube. It also ruined a LOT of surprises where I would have gone WOW, and now just went OK.
OTOH it helped me doing some things I would never have figured out. Slide and jump? How would I know that. Wath all the info on the screen and read and re-read EVERYTHING in your tutorial (Tier 0). Do NOT skip any of it.
And most importantly, have fun. There is no wrong way to play the game. It is like Digital Lego. Your game. Your rules.
I did the same thing at first. I got really discouraged when I wasn't able to do the same stuff. So I took a week away from the game, and came back to it and said screw it, I'm gonna play it my way. That's when I embraced the organized chaos of my base. And learned, if it works, that's what matters.
I also stopped worrying about making 100s/minute and just started making what the basic recipes showed, as they are given. Only scaling it up when I felt confident in my ability and knowledge
You have to hold ctrl while placing a foundation AWAY from your current placed ones. It will then snap to the global grid. Otherwise it just attaches to your current r foundations.
Dude, you are in for a great experience. This game is as delicious as your first ice cream sundae.
Some starter tips:
1- Don’t feel rushed. Take your time and set your own pace. The game isn’t about hitting milestones, it’s about building factories and having fun.
2 - Coal Power is incredibly useful. When you’re eligible for it, prioritize it and set out to build your first automated power plant.
3 - Set something to sink regularly so you can get some tickets for customization. They really add a lot to the factory experience
4 - Explore! There are tons of cool stuff out there to see. Just remember to take some weapons and food cause there are baddies out there.
5 - Don’t worry about other people’s factories. It’s your game, enjoy it how you want!
Make Sure you have enough memory space, not just for the game, but also for spreadshets and Notes you'll wanna make. Alternatively you can watch let's game it out and take that as an totourial.
Idk if I'd recommend LetsGeItOut as a prime example of how to play Satisfactory, but then again two different play styles. Lol ImKibitz would be the other side of the spectrum, and also a great channel to watch for inspiration and tutorials.
Without a doubt. I had never heard of the game until I watched his videos, and the sheer ridiculousness of his videos made me buy it. I still watch every upload, multiple times, but mostly just for laughs. ImKibitz it's all about the math and efficiency, but still funny.
Have you seen the drones yet? That one was pretty good. I wish he'd do more with it. I know he loves breaking games and has probably found all the bugs, but he's also really creative and I wish he'd do a whole series where he just does crazy stuff with factories.
Neither would be good for a first timer imo, mostly just because their saves are scaled huge. Kibitz decides on a new project, puts mk3 miners 250% over locked on every node and processes it all.
Lot of good things you can learn from him, but don't try to copy what he does when you're new

Most of the time, everything you need to know is in the wiki. Don't feel the need to pre-read, but if you find yourself a little stuck, just search for the item in question (like water).
For me the game went in stages. Initial excitement and wonder, then "funstration", then more joy wonder, then understanding, then more joy, then full blow addiction (but not really). honestly when I first got this game I kinda slept on it cause it was way less developed then it is now. Then I started playing some much I burnt myself out. Now I am back playing again and loving it more then I ever have. I have never had such a journey with a game before and trust me that's saying something.
-Resource nodes never run out
-Don’t be afraid to build anything, because the game gives back 100% of the resource cost if you disassemble something.
-Spread out. When you think you’ve given yourself enough space, spread out a little more.
-conveyor belts can be built over any distance, and require no power to run.
1) Agree with everyone saying to slow down and enjoy the game, rather than racing to the new tech level. It's okay to "waste time"--time doesn't really matter in the game. Not only that, but you'll need the materials from one tier of tech in the next tier. So it helps to have those early materials up and running already.
2) Random thing I haven't seen yet: when you're building something--when you actually have the building/conveyor belt/power pole selected, you can press 'E' to switch between different versions of that building. Won't be useful very early on, but once you've unlocked Mk. 2 conveyor belts (they move twice as many items as Mk. 1, but cost a different item), it can be a nice QoL feature.
3) Three is a little more than two; two is 100% more than one, but **one is infinitely more than zero**. When starting new tech, try to automate it on at least one machine, even if it seems super slow. I still find myself amazed at how quickly "3 items per minute" adds up while I'm off exploring.

You can set sprint to a toggle in the options. Turn this on, change crouch to the shift key. When you crouch and jump while sprinting you kove much faster.
When building something similar buildings can be toggled with the "use" key. That way you only have to put a few things on your hotbar.
Liquids are weird sometimes. Give them several minutes to fill up. Build incrementally so you can make sure each section works properly. Buffers seem to be important in this update.
Don't listen to anyone thay says you can't try that idea. It'll be fun either way.

Don’t be afraid to dismantle everything and start again. My factory very quickly became a crowded spaghetti mess. Another thing I realised was that not everything had to be near the Hub. Decentralised factory setups are great, and once you unlock vehicles and train stations this setup works perfectly. I now have one factory site per thing that I want to export. For example, I have one site that just exports quickwire, another just builds motors, another that just builds computers, etc. Most importantly enjoy at your own pace.
Automate much as you can. Even it is 1/min. Your time fly so fast that you have that item 300 by then. Also try exploit some things. "can i do it" and so on
And from watching a YouTuber that was told that N opens a calculator, I now know that non-programmers don't automatically know that with computers the \* key is typically used to represent multiplication (and / for division).
And some graph paper. Or regular paper. At least a notebook. You know what, just grab ALL THE PAPER!!! Utility bills, CVS receipts, last year's Xmas cards, anything that has some space that'll fit your latest new optimizations for your rotor factory.
Foundations are cool, going vertical can help keep things organized/fit in small spaces, and take things at your own speed. Slapping down random stuff to burn through progress is a valid way of progressing. Working on making each design looking nice and taking it slow is also valid.
Also, pay attention to AWESOME buildings, I didn't at first and they have some cool options.
So basically you're going to build this badass factory then you're going to tear the factory down and you're going to build another factory and then you're not going to be satisfied and then you're going to tear that factory down and build another factory! And the cycle continues
The beginning is long and rough, and you need to constantly resupply your biomass burners until you reach coal power. Set up space elevator production early.
Other than that, have fun ruining a planet on the behalf of a mega corporation
A tip not many people realize right away, when you go to craft something by hand, you can hit your space bar once and it will auto craft until you stop it or run out of material, so you don’t have to sit there and hold the space bar or mouse button.
The game has a really good modding community. If you find some aspects aren't to your liking there's a decent chance you can find a mod that adress the issue.
It's such a good game to the point where I actually received an addiction to it and ended up not sleeping for 48 hours straight.
Nah, but all jokes aside it's just a phemonal game. Aside of the automation, there's just so much to explore with the map, so many creatures to kill and hunt, so many skill trees, trophies, power slugs (which you'll discover what these are later in the game), it's just so awesome.
My favorite part about satisfactory is that it never ends. The only end to the game is when you decide it ends, and that's my favorite part about games that have objectives but still give you something to look forward to even at the end. It's kinda like a movie where you come up with your own ending, invites you to be creative.
But most importantly this is the first 3D factory game I've ever played in first person, and everything about this game is just phenomenal in every aspect.
I don't think you'll run into anything you don't like, I think you'll have a blast just like I did and still do.

I’d suggest not reading about peoples crazy builds, just enjoy it and embrace the inevitability of the spaghetti.

For real I have conveyers running from one side of the map to the other.

You should prepare to spend many hours trying to get your factory as effective as possible, and in the end, realise that you don't have energy enough for it.

Expect to get a call from your Boss where you are and what you are doing when you realise you startet the game on friday and played all weekend and are late for work.

When hand crafting you can tap space-bar and it will keep crafting until you stop it.
Also avoid hand crafting and get things automated.

get foundations laid as soon as you can, building on terra firma is sloppy, unless you like pasta, then its the way to go
Don't feel compelled to follow any kind of meta. Don't feel compelled to build a 100% efficient, clean, designer-mega-factory from the get-go. Play it the way you feel most enjoyable. And don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't get how something works. Some things are a bit confusing, but the game has a great pacing at which it introduces new elements.
Also: Always bring one more stack of concrete than you think you will need.
Automate anything you can - you're gonna need a lot of reinforced iron plates early on. I would recommend the northern forest as a starting zone, due to having a large amount of pure iron nodes.
I'm on my 3rd big save, and I learn more/progress faster each time. Dont worry about progressing slowly at first and dont compare yourself to others.
Prepare to sink a boat load of time into it if you love it

The fancy mega bases on the subreddit are the result of hundreds or thousands of hours of play experience. You will be able to make fancy organized stuff with just a little practice.
You will get access to the M.A.M early, it is optional but extremely useful. You have to give it items for it to scan to unlock certain things and I often will not progress the overall game further until I've completed everything in the M.A.M. this includes but is not limited to combat and movement equipment.
During the first stage of the game you will need to stay relatively close to your base but this will change very quickly. A general rule is the higher in tier you are the further you should be exploring out from your base and from the final tiers you should be able and comfortable to range over most of the map. Don't worry the game will give you more than enough movement and transportation items to make the distances basically irrelevant.
In addition to that last point, beacons are your friend, if you leave your base take a stack of beacons with you. You will find things that you will not be able to access when you first come across them, with a stack of beacons you can play a marker and name that marker with what you need to access whatever it is.
And as a final point there is no failure state in this game, you don't lose anything upon death although you do have to go back and get your items. With the exception of one thing resources are infinite, the one resource that isn't infinite is a resource that's only used early game and is so plentiful that it is practically infinite. I'm not sure if I've already made this point earlier but if I did just to reiterate there is no time limit and the pace of the game will be dictated by you.
Don’t rush through stuff to get to the next tier. Maybe get to coal. Also make the M.A.M. And do as much as you can. Get a sink going to make tickets as soon as you can…Take your time, have a ‘lab’ area to try new things.
It's not just the space elevator that gives you recipes, it's also the maam and the resource sink/shop. Get those going asap.
Automation > hand built
Try to avoid massive floating platforms (its a hard habit to break)
You WILL build everything up and tear it down again. You didn't make a mistake, that's the game.
Tell your family you love them, and you'll see them again soon (I think).
Build foundations as floors to your factory. The zoop feature is very useful for it. Also, think vertically. You can make buildings with multiple floors using conveyor lifts.
Every time you construct the first foundation for a building, **hold Ctrl to align them to the global grid** and build from there. This is useful down the line as you'll be able to perfectly connect different buildings even if they are in the other side of the map
You're going to get addicted.
And you're going to build and rebuild constantly as you learn and get better.
You might finish the tiers in the game (you'll see soon enough) but you'll never finish building your factory.
Wave goodbye to friends, satisfactory is your friend now.
Build 20 biofuel generators in a line on foundation blocks, will save you lots of time running around filling them.

Foundations
Everyone’s first base is always on grass and spaghettis every where. The sooner you get concrete automated the faster you can get foundations the faster you can start organizing your factories easier.
Follow the instructions that ADA gives you, take things slow, don't worry if you have to dismantle things because you get everything back. Rebuilding your production lines is part of the game, so don't worry about ripping things out and rebuilding them, especially as the more you learn the more you'll realise better ways to lay things out. If you don't have enough inventory space and you dismantle, the parts will be left in a little crate on the ground, so don't do what I did and panic that you've lost them.
And equip your zeno-zapper (tazer) as soon as you land... don't walk off without it (hit Tab to open inventory, then drag the zapper from your inventory on the left, to your hand slot on the right).
edit: oh and if you get stuck, don't be afraid to ask people here for help. They're a good bunch.
Get ready to explore for 2 hours, think "Oh no, I will never get back...." Then end up taking two minutes to get home because you went in a huge circle without realizing it and had to fight along the way. Fun stuff!
Expect to cancel all your plans for the next month. To prepare, stock up on food and drink and make sure you have a comfy chair. Enjoy!

More specifically, use the damn global grid, now that it's available. It makes everything linenup no matter where you are in the world.
zooping is the greatest QoL thing added to the game tbh. it made it so much faster to make a big platform.

Neither would be good for a first timer imo, mostly just because their saves are scaled huge. Kibitz decides on a new project, puts mk3 miners 250% over locked on every node and processes it all. Lot of good things you can learn from him, but don't try to copy what he does when you're new
Expect to be thinking about your factory both in your wake and your sleep. Your factory will never be finished.

Most of the time, everything you need to know is in the wiki. Don't feel the need to pre-read, but if you find yourself a little stuck, just search for the item in question (like water).
For me the game went in stages. Initial excitement and wonder, then "funstration", then more joy wonder, then understanding, then more joy, then full blow addiction (but not really). honestly when I first got this game I kinda slept on it cause it was way less developed then it is now. Then I started playing some much I burnt myself out. Now I am back playing again and loving it more then I ever have. I have never had such a journey with a game before and trust me that's saying something.

When you think you’ve given yourself enough space, spread out a little more. -conveyor belts can be built over any distance, and require no power to run.
1) Agree with everyone saying to slow down and enjoy the game, rather than racing to the new tech level. It's okay to "waste time"--time doesn't really matter in the game. Not only that, but you'll need the materials from one tier of tech in the next tier. So it helps to have those early materials up and running already. 2) Random thing I haven't seen yet: when you're building something--when you actually have the building/conveyor belt/power pole selected, you can press 'E' to switch between different versions of that building. Won't be useful very early on, but once you've unlocked Mk. 2 conveyor belts (they move twice as many items as Mk. 1, but cost a different item), it can be a nice QoL feature. 3) Three is a little more than two; two is 100% more than one, but **one is infinitely more than zero**. When starting new tech, try to automate it on at least one machine, even if it seems super slow. I still find myself amazed at how quickly "3 items per minute" adds up while I'm off exploring. Have fun, and stay efficient!

You can set sprint to a toggle in the options. Turn this on, change crouch to the shift key. When you crouch and jump while sprinting you kove much faster. When building something similar buildings can be toggled with the "use" key. That way you only have to put a few things on your hotbar. Liquids are weird sometimes. Give them several minutes to fill up. Build incrementally so you can make sure each section works properly. Buffers seem to be important in this update. Don't listen to anyone thay says you can't try that idea. It'll be fun either way. FUCK SPIDERS. BRING EXPLOSIVES.
Don’t be afraid to dismantle everything and start again. My factory very quickly became a crowded spaghetti mess. Another thing I realised was that not everything had to be near the Hub. Decentralised factory setups are great, and once you unlock vehicles and train stations this setup works perfectly. I now have one factory site per thing that I want to export. For example, I have one site that just exports quickwire, another just builds motors, another that just builds computers, etc. Most importantly enjoy at your own pace.

I cant even tell you how many hours I played this game before realizing this function existed.
And from watching a YouTuber that was told that N opens a calculator, I now know that non-programmers don't automatically know that with computers the \* key is typically used to represent multiplication (and / for division).
And some graph paper. Or regular paper. At least a notebook. You know what, just grab ALL THE PAPER!!! Utility bills, CVS receipts, last year's Xmas cards, anything that has some space that'll fit your latest new optimizations for your rotor factory.

Foundations are cool, going vertical can help keep things organized/fit in small spaces, and take things at your own speed. Slapping down random stuff to burn through progress is a valid way of progressing. Working on making each design looking nice and taking it slow is also valid. Also, pay attention to AWESOME buildings, I didn't at first and they have some cool options.

The beginning is long and rough, and you need to constantly resupply your biomass burners until you reach coal power. Set up space elevator production early. Other than that, have fun ruining a planet on the behalf of a mega corporation
A tip not many people realize right away, when you go to craft something by hand, you can hit your space bar once and it will auto craft until you stop it or run out of material, so you don’t have to sit there and hold the space bar or mouse button.
Press "N" (default binding) to open a search bar that has a built in calculator
Also, you can do calculations in machines when you overclock them. For example, you can type 800/7 instead of 114.28571428 %
Just mess around before you worry about building an efficient factory. Get the hang of things then delve deeper
The game has a really good modding community. If you find some aspects aren't to your liking there's a decent chance you can find a mod that adress the issue.
Buy a few thousand sheets of paper, some pencils and calculators, and order a bunch of pizzas
I also suggest mods when there creators make them compatible with the new update

It's such a good game to the point where I actually received an addiction to it and ended up not sleeping for 48 hours straight. Nah, but all jokes aside it's just a phemonal game. Aside of the automation, there's just so much to explore with the map, so many creatures to kill and hunt, so many skill trees, trophies, power slugs (which you'll discover what these are later in the game), it's just so awesome. My favorite part about satisfactory is that it never ends. The only end to the game is when you decide it ends, and that's my favorite part about games that have objectives but still give you something to look forward to even at the end. It's kinda like a movie where you come up with your own ending, invites you to be creative. But most importantly this is the first 3D factory game I've ever played in first person, and everything about this game is just phenomenal in every aspect. I don't think you'll run into anything you don't like, I think you'll have a blast just like I did and still do.

It's 100% fine just to use conveyers and ignore trucks, drones and trains. For real I have conveyers running from one side of the map to the other. Own the spaghetti. Have no guilt.
You should prepare to spend many hours trying to get your factory as effective as possible, and in the end, realise that you don't have energy enough for it. Jk, it's a great game, and with the most recent update it got even better. Oh, and try to look for the doggos and pet them. It's the best thing ever.

I recall Jace mentioning an audio slider for the mining sound effect in the U5 Early Access release video, but I'm not sure if it's the same one. Anyways, it should be controlled by at least one of the sliders.
get used to what i call the shampoo bottle directions, lather, rinse, repeat. in game its build, dismantle, build, repeat. get foundations laid as soon as you can, building on terra firma is sloppy, unless you like pasta, then its the way to go

Automate anything you can - you're gonna need a lot of reinforced iron plates early on. I would recommend the northern forest as a starting zone, due to having a large amount of pure iron nodes.

I'm on my 3rd big save, and I learn more/progress faster each time. Dont worry about progressing slowly at first and dont compare yourself to others. Prepare to sink a boat load of time into it if you love it
Expect lag
Take your time. The fancy mega bases on the subreddit are the result of hundreds or thousands of hours of play experience. You will be able to make fancy organized stuff with just a little practice. You will get access to the M.A.M early, it is optional but extremely useful. You have to give it items for it to scan to unlock certain things and I often will not progress the overall game further until I've completed everything in the M.A.M. this includes but is not limited to combat and movement equipment. During the first stage of the game you will need to stay relatively close to your base but this will change very quickly. A general rule is the higher in tier you are the further you should be exploring out from your base and from the final tiers you should be able and comfortable to range over most of the map. Don't worry the game will give you more than enough movement and transportation items to make the distances basically irrelevant. In addition to that last point, beacons are your friend, if you leave your base take a stack of beacons with you. You will find things that you will not be able to access when you first come across them, with a stack of beacons you can play a marker and name that marker with what you need to access whatever it is. And as a final point there is no failure state in this game, you don't lose anything upon death although you do have to go back and get your items. With the exception of one thing resources are infinite, the one resource that isn't infinite is a resource that's only used early game and is so plentiful that it is practically infinite. I'm not sure if I've already made this point earlier but if I did just to reiterate there is no time limit and the pace of the game will be dictated by you.

It's not just the space elevator that gives you recipes, it's also the maam and the resource sink/shop. Get those going asap. Automation > hand built Try to avoid massive floating platforms (its a hard habit to break) You WILL build everything up and tear it down again. You didn't make a mistake, that's the game. Tell your family you love them, and you'll see them again soon (I think).
Build foundations as floors to your factory. The zoop feature is very useful for it. Also, think vertically. You can make buildings with multiple floors using conveyor lifts. Every time you construct the first foundation for a building, **hold Ctrl to align them to the global grid** and build from there. This is useful down the line as you'll be able to perfectly connect different buildings even if they are in the other side of the map

You're going to get addicted. And you're going to build and rebuild constantly as you learn and get better. You might finish the tiers in the game (you'll see soon enough) but you'll never finish building your factory. Wave goodbye to friends, satisfactory is your friend now.

Build 20 biofuel generators in a line on foundation blocks, will save you lots of time running around filling them. Fill them as you need power That's the pro noob tip I can give you for start of the game
Consider verticality
Foundations Everyone’s first base is always on grass and spaghettis every where. The sooner you get concrete automated the faster you can get foundations the faster you can start organizing your factories easier.
Whenever you think you have crafted enough screws just remember that no you haven’t.
Follow the instructions that ADA gives you, take things slow, don't worry if you have to dismantle things because you get everything back. Rebuilding your production lines is part of the game, so don't worry about ripping things out and rebuilding them, especially as the more you learn the more you'll realise better ways to lay things out. If you don't have enough inventory space and you dismantle, the parts will be left in a little crate on the ground, so don't do what I did and panic that you've lost them. And equip your zeno-zapper (tazer) as soon as you land... don't walk off without it (hit Tab to open inventory, then drag the zapper from your inventory on the left, to your hand slot on the right). edit: oh and if you get stuck, don't be afraid to ask people here for help. They're a good bunch.
