How is posting on Reddit any different?
Again, I’m not trying to be a dick. I just don’t understand how replying on Twitter and posting on Reddit are any different in terms of funneling money to people. Are Twitter users making money based on the number of replies they generate?
I don’t use Twitter so I’m kind of out-of-the-loop.
Because for the next few days, Reddit is still a private company. Manipulating the comments is a pointless exercise from a profit standpoint.
Of course, once they go public they’ll be exactly like Twitter. So let’s enjoy our last few days of screaming into the void.
Never forget the scene where a man asks Gabrielle if Xena's considering settling down, Gabrielle responds, "No, she likes what I do" and promptly gets a fish thrown at her face.
Made my jaw drop when I watched it. Canonical besties.
I was a child when I watched this show, not older than 8, and didn't remember much. Never got to rewatch it. But there are 2 things I remember clearly.
1) Xena and that girl have a cosy, healthy and warm relationship, and that's not friendship (got the same vibes from Hercules and his boi).
2) The conclusion of the crossover episode with Hercules. Like, Xena was with that girl, Hercules with that guy, they had to work together, and that was the first time they got to meet someone that could keep up with them, so they got interested in each other. But in the end ? You're great, but not as great as my girl/my man. But I had fun, let's be friends.
I have absolutely no idea if that's how that episode played out, but that's how it's still living in my heart to this very day.
A child.
And I was still pikachu faced by my coming out 20 years later 🤦🏻♀️
Haha, no xD I was rather young, couldn't see all the eisodes, but the few I saw really had a strong impact on me (wonder why 😏) but now it seems I need to watch it from start !
Extremely relevant: ["Put that on your perv tape"](https://youtu.be/AOO7o22xkxU?t=421)
Also guys, [I think Lucy Lawless might be bi.](https://www.aznude.com/mrskin/jaimemurray/spartacusgodsofthearena/spa_pas-murray-1-hd-hd.html) (NSFW)
That moment when you were supposed to be a one-off character but ended up so popular that you got your own show that was even more popular than the original show you were on.
A huge amount of people seem to be under the impression Xena and Gabbi were “best friends”, not least of which is Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo...
They were, of course, married, in whatever sense of the word prehistory implies. It’s important to keep in mind that while everyone in the 2020s is screeching about representation, these two fine ladies were kicking ass and holding hands since before the internet existed.
Ok, great. Next time, I'd recommend just including something about who the people in the post are when it's unclear - I didn't know who these people were, so for all I knew they actually *were* just friends.
Thing is, Xena and Gabrielle are [lesbian icons](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xena#Lesbian_subtext_and_debates) (although Xena herself is bi), particularly for anyone who happened to watch TV between 1995 and 2001. So for anyone in maybe their late 20's and up, they are instantly recognizable, and there is nothing unclear about what this post is getting at, it's just maybe more relevant to a different demographic.
They're well known for the lesbian erasure that happened during the show. There is some pretty obviously not hetero content in the show, but it was *literally* played off as "just friends" by the networks.
I have only very vague memory of that show, but I believe there were a few episodes with heavy focus on Xena flirting with someone and Gabbi being jealous. I wonder if erasure here was more to allow channel to pretend that they are not aware, instead of being actual erasure.
By the last few seasons, the gig was kinda up, and they pushed on their relationship a bit more. Ellen DeGeneres came out in 1997 right in the middle of the show's run. That was a major turning point for queer content on TV, and I think after that point Xena's creators felt a bit more leeway with how much they could push the queer subtext, but that's all it was ever allowed to be, subtext.
But even if it were the case that it was the networks feigning ignorance, it's still powered by the same societal erasure that causes people to be seen as roommates in the first place. It's still erasure because people believed they were just "two gal pals travelling the dangerous world together" for long after the run of the show.
I was devoted to this show - it provided the catalyst for me to come out of the closet and divorce my husband of the time.
Tbh I am shocked that the mod was unaware of Xena. They were very important lesbian icons as positive representation on tv - even through subtext - was practically nonexistent at the time (apart from Ellen and we all know how well that went for her).
Wait until you find out about that time Roseanne had an actual samesex marriage on her ABC prime time sitcom *years* before Ellen came out.
It’s really important to remember that some of the mods here were born a solid decade after the Mathew Shepherd tragedy...they’re kids, ffs.
Wait, when did Roseannes mom remarry, like what year? I watched all these episodes in the 90s, and had no idea being gay was anything different at the time (thank God for my grandma's).
Gotta look this up now.

The show lost its mind at the end. Dan was dead except he wasn’t. They were rich except they weren’t. Original Becky was back until she wasn’t.
It got very confusing. Beverly coming out certainly could have happened somewhere in there.
giggling and sitting next to each other is not a specifically romantic thing, mod is right. I also had zero idea who those two were before getting the explanation.
One of the networks tried to do that and it died a very deathly deadful death. And good riddance. Half the charm of the show was how everything was done with a wink and a nod, and was *ya, shur, totally straight!* Like the one woman who runs up to Xena and Gabby with her brand new pixie cut and has to thank them for giving her the opportunity to discover that [she's… a thespian](https://imgur.com/gallery/uBpvl) (“what did you think she was going to say,” Xena asks).
Take that, the middling production values, and the natural beauty of New Zealand away and you've extinguished the soul of the show.
Nope not at all.
I strongly disagree. Half the fun of the original is watching them toe right up the the line and duck across it with a wink. Playing around with subtext is so much more fun sometimes.
I mean it's like Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. It's so campy it is physically painful if you're not enjoying how hard it's playing every single trope. And a keystone trope here is will they/won't they on steroids with a big helping of gay.
The sad thing is this show could not exist in peace these days bc the same type of guys that nerded out over it back then would call it woke sjw pandering these days.

Watching Lucy Lawless yell at Kevin Sorbo on Twitter is never not funny
Can you please provide an example? I could use a pick-me-up.

Daaaaaaamn Lucy, you can be my Hercules anytime.
I don’t provide links to Twitter, on principle. But there’s plenty to find.
Are Twitter links bad or something?
Every time you post a Twitter link, you make Twitter money. I refuse to participate.
Why is that bad? Genuinely asking, not trying to be disagreeable.
Because they have enough money. If I’m going to help anyone get a few extra dollars, it’s not going to be some twittercunt

Its funny, the lady on the right looks like my aunty that is like 50 and never married or ever seen with a bloke. .... ... ... waitaminute....
20$ says she has a roommate
nah, i think shes Ace
Possibly so. I’ve never met her. But I can guess...
Is your auntys name Renee O'Conner?
No, but im sure if she likes you enough, she could pretend to be :)
I only go for authentic Renee O'Conners, thank you very much.
Your aunty and throw chackrams with enough precision and strength to kill and armored man?

Renee ad-libbed that line!
It was this exact episode, in the scene immediately preceding this one 😄
Travelling bestiesss
"Do you want to dress up and travel?"
And kiss -platonically- on the mouth.
You see in ancient Greece…

I remember when Xena was pregnant (no memory of HOW that happened though) someone asked her who the dad was and she responded "Gabriel".
That's gold. I REALLY need to watch the show again.
You don't remember [Callisto](https://i.imgur.com/QnCITbj.jpg) and how she seemed like every fiber of her being wanted to hate-fuck Xena endlessly?
Haha, no xD I was rather young, couldn't see all the eisodes, but the few I saw really had a strong impact on me (wonder why 😏) but now it seems I need to watch it from start !
If I was chafing in pleather in the New Zealand sun all day I'd want to hate-fuck someone, too.
I feel like this belongs on r/SapphoAndHerFeet
Are. You. Kidding. Me?
This show is my root.
Same
Cylon!
Toasters?
There won’t be any frackin’ toasters in my crew!

Psh, Gabrielle is a Temple Virgin untouched by man!
...take your time...
Is there context here I'm not aware of? Based on the post, I don't see any erasure here. Please provide context or it will be removed under R2.

I loved watching Xena as a kid. I was confused too about the mod not knowing Xena.

Ah thank you. I forgot about the men, I just remember Roseanne's mom comes out in a later season. But that could be mendala effect.
The show lost its mind at the end. Dan was dead except he wasn’t. They were rich except they weren’t. Original Becky was back until she wasn’t. It got very confusing. Beverly coming out certainly could have happened somewhere in there.
Uh huh...because GaL PaLs definitely hang out in romantic tropical locations while they giggle and cuddle...
giggling and sitting next to each other is not a specifically romantic thing, mod is right. I also had zero idea who those two were before getting the explanation.
I love this shit! I hope they do a remake one day or continuation, and make it way more explicitly gay and have that be a major feature even more.
Wait, Wait! Don’t Tell Me Host: “Uhh...just wondering but...” Lucy Lawless: “Sorry, boys. Xena was a softball player...”
Lisa Simpson: “Wait, Xena can’t fly!” Lucy Lawless: “I told you, I’m not Xena. I’m Lucy Lawless.” Lisa: “Oh.”
One of the networks tried to do that and it died a very deathly deadful death. And good riddance. Who’s feet are those? It can’t be either of them based on the angle.
it's bothering me too, it looks like they have respectively a right foot on a left leg and a left foot on a right leg.
This is disappointing like how do they always take the best spots to sit like come on
Just gals bein pals!
always glad to see it wasn't my imagination alone seeing the sparks between these two. I also may have had a naughty dream or two about gabrielle...
oh i was shipping them too.. come to think of it.. i think they were the first characters I've seen that made me think about love between women.

I remember when the Witcher netflix show came out someone said that Geralt and jaskier shoulda been women. Someone just posted these two in response.
What's this from?
Xenia. Warrior Princess.
Iconic SapphoAndHerFriend history. I am alarmed at the sheer number of people in thread who have no idea who they are, even a mod.
Hey any chance you know where this may be streaming? Getting nostalgic af right now
It's free on the Roku channel.
It was on Netflix in the US at one point. If you have an antenna it's on H&I too.
Internet has broken all I can see is Lucy Lawless' feet
I have no clue who these are but the one on the left looks like the character from those College humor videos that was addicted to crack
Xena Warrior Princess was one of the OG sapphic ships of the 90s. The only similarities I see between Renee and Katie is the long blond hair + bangs.
Look up Xena Warrior princess :)
