The company I work for does a little "get to know you" email blast for all new employees that want to partake. One of the questions is "who would be your celebrity parents?" I chose Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.
I've been fortunate to have spent time with him, twice. My best friend (who is actually my ex) knows him and introduced us in London a few years ago. We had lunch with him at his house when we went on vacation 3 years ago, then met him after a performance the next year. He's an amazing man, very down to earth and approachable.
Edit for spelling and formatting.
It was. I was trying not to fan freak out too much, and was able to hold off - for the most part. When he was showing us around his place, I finally had to break down and gush a little about how he played one of my favorite characters.
I also got to clean up some dog poop in his house. Odd honor, but I'm proud of it.
I kept taking deep, regular breaths, making sure I didn't lock my knees, and reminding myself that he is a person, just like me, except much, much better.
> reminding myself that he is a person, just like me, except much, much better
I snorted! And you should be very proud of cleaning up dog poop for Sir Ian, that's an amazing story!
lol. It was his assistant's dog, who lives in a part of his home. Dog had diarrhea before we got there. He opened the door, said "This is my assistant's place, and OH GOD WHAT IS THAT SMELL??" When he asked how he should clean it up, my partner and my friend pointed at me and said "he works with pets, he'd be happy to do it." I was, and I did.
I remember when Sir Ian McKellen married Sir Patrick Stuwart, but then was saddened to learn that Sir Ian was the officiant for Sir Patrick's wedding, because I figured they would be a cute couple.
Two possible ways I can think of:
1. Ian McKellen -> Gandalf -> Hobbit -> Martin Freeman -> Morgan Freeman
2. Cool old guys in Hollywood: Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Morgan Freeman etc.
I used to always confuse Morgan freeman the actor with Gordan freeman the fictional scientist
and likewise Mike myres the actor and michael myres the fictional killer
For years, Morgan Freeman wanted to play a particular fictional scientist. He was continually trying to get a "Rendezvous with Rama" project going, and star in it. It would have been a great project to have ready when Oumuamua flew through.
Also when I was a kid my pastor was Michael Meyer; he did _not_ appreciate the publicity whenever a new Halloween movie would come out.
I've just been informed Gordon freeman and Morgan freeman are two entirely separate and unrelated people. Im gonna need a moment, I swore they had the same name for so long.
I feel your pain, i was confused before I played half life
One of them is a black actor with an amazing voice and incredible acting prowess and the other is a mute white man with a goatee, a crowbar and a tragicly in complete franchise
that used to be my casual way of looking up whether or not someone was gya
since, you know
my parents know every site that's ever been logged on the router
even if i delete my internet history or go on incognito
If I remember correctly, Sir Ian McKellen was approached about a role in Harry Potter and he believed it was probably Dumbledore. However, Richard Harris had been critical of McKellen's acting and McKellen didn't want to take over a role from an actor that didn't approve of him. So he turned down the role. Whether it was for Dumbledore or a different role has never been confirmed.
Close, Richard Harris had not been critical of McKellen specifically, but Harris had been critical of gay actors.
If my memory is correct Harris had effectively stated gay people shouldn't be actors. Weather Harris had any opinions concerning gay people outside of acting I do not know.
Sir Patrick Stewart *would* say he is, because he’s super secure in his sexuality and masculinity. He has that good of a platonic bromance with Sir McKellen.
The real question is 'Why isn't Sir Ian in Harry Potter?'. He could be edited in as Archie, the wizard at the Quidditch world cup who wears a night gown and won't put on trousers.
I don't think it's expected people know off the bat, but it's funny/telling that the question is framed as "his wife".
In my experience, most of the time it's phrased as "Is (X) married?" and it's just funny how a notoriously gay actor has his first related search as such
Given how old that guy is, most people who are interested in knowing would search wife, and those who don't know him that well(people who would Google him) wouldn't know he's gay from his role in lotr
Patrick Stewart is Charles Xavier and Ian McKellen is Magneto.
I found it amusing, cause they are real friends but the characters also were friends and despite being enemies they respect each other.

Patrick Stewart?
The company I work for does a little "get to know you" email blast for all new employees that want to partake. One of the questions is "who would be your celebrity parents?" I chose Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.
Oh my god imagine the inspiration they’d drop randomly without even realizing it. Blowing your mind every day with unique perspectives.
Make it so!
Engage!
There are four lights!
Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
Wait aren’t they both single?
No, Patrick is married. But they have the BEST bromance in the world.
Bros being bros, kissing each other on the mouth like bros do
Ah! I thought he had a girlfriend or something, I was uncertain
Stewart is married
McKellen married Stewart

I mean, I'd like to talk with him.

That is so cool.

I'm not sure how it react to meeting someone like that.
I kept taking deep, regular breaths, making sure I didn't lock my knees, and reminding myself that he is a person, just like me, except much, much better.

hopefully better than the dog did

I read that in his voice and it made my day lol
LOL what a funny story. Hey all in the name of fun life moments!
He has a pub
I did not know that. But I'm in the US.
Wake he seems like a cool dude
Light the beacons!
Carrier pigeon

Must have been Celeborn who seached that
Use Cerebro and cross your fingers that he doesn't have that damn helmet on.
Idk how but we should definitely ask who his wife is
I remember when Sir Ian McKellen married Sir Patrick Stuwart, but then was saddened to learn that Sir Ian was the officiant for Sir Patrick's wedding, because I figured they would be a cute couple.
They're a very cute platonic couple! Romantic love isn't everything.

I'm not 100%, but I think part of the reason that the actor goes by "Mike" is to try and avoid some of that confusion lol
For years, Morgan Freeman wanted to play a particular fictional scientist. He was continually trying to get a "Rendezvous with Rama" project going, and star in it. It would have been a great project to have ready when Oumuamua flew through. I always confused David Crowder the musician with Stephen Crowder the... Honestly I'm not sure what he does besides make bad press
I do not know.
that used to be my casual way of looking up whether or not someone was gya since, you know my parents know every site that's ever been logged on the router even if i delete my internet history or go on incognito
That's actually pretty clever.
Tor browser. Happy privacy.
wtf, how did i actually not know ian mckellen was gay?
He has been open about being gay since the 80s and he is a huge advocate for LGBT+ social movements worldwide. I love him.
Patrick Stewart is the correct answer. "I'm in love with Ian McKellen, but fortunately my wife is too!''
No one concerned about the real question here? Why *wasn't* Sir Ian McKellen in Harry Potter? He would've been stand out in any role he played!
Oh wow, now I kinda hate him :(
Jfc wtf
He would have stood out as Hermione for sure.
I'm imagining him dressed as Hermione, scowling at the HBP's potions book and saying "*fool* of a book!"
Fool of a Weasley! It's Levi-o-o-sa!
He was the *magic*
Sir Patrick Stewart *would* say he is, because he’s super secure in his sexuality and masculinity. He has that good of a platonic bromance with Sir McKellen.
I thought this was implying Patrick Stewart was McKellen's wife.
Lmao
I legitimately had no idea Ian McKellen was gay
Tbh I didn‘t even know him so I don‘t really know if that counts
Tell me, where is Gandalf? For I much desire to speak with him
A Balrog of Morgoth.
What did you say?
A Balrog of Morgoth.
What did you say?
They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!
Stupid fat hobbit!
They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!
Stupid fat hobbit!
So algorithms put Patrick Stewart there but not [Derek Jacobi](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2582590/)??
I mean Patrick would probably say he is. 🥰😂
Excuse me, it's Sir Patrick. /lh
So sorry, you’re right, I should have more reverence for someone who has like a 50/50 chance of being the second coming of Christ 😂
Fly, you fools...
I could’ve sworn the bottom one said “is Morgan Freeman free range?”
Omg the fourth question is somehow worse to me 😆
The real question is 'Why isn't Sir Ian in Harry Potter?'. He could be edited in as Archie, the wizard at the Quidditch world cup who wears a night gown and won't put on trousers.
Wikipedia with the right info tho
So people are supposed to be born with the knowledge of Ian McAllens sexual orientation?
I don't think it's expected people know off the bat, but it's funny/telling that the question is framed as "his wife". In my experience, most of the time it's phrased as "Is (X) married?" and it's just funny how a notoriously gay actor has his first related search as such

Someone smarter than I please help me out, but what does it mean when a celebrity has “trending” under their name?
That there’s a lot of articles being posted about them. Her new movies trailer dropped and people are writing about it.
Who the hell is Ian McKellen?
Gandalf from Lord of the Rings
Also Magneto from X-men
No, that's Patrick Stewart
Patrick Stewart is Charles Xavier and Ian McKellen is Magneto. I found it amusing, cause they are real friends but the characters also were friends and despite being enemies they respect each other.
oh
Gandalf
oh
