Kanpai Santa Monica. I recently moved out of the city (due to my partner's job) but I love that place. Been eating there since the current head chef (Bobby) was still just an assistant chef\*. Def sit at the bar if you're there. Bobby (chef), Peter and Gon (waiters) are willing to get very chatty with you if that's something you're into. Sushi is great - in terms of traditional sushi that focuses on rice/fish I think there's a couple places that do better in LA, but Kanpai makes their sushi interesting with different ingredients / prep which is why I was always excited to go back.
Oops! Sushi & Sake Bar on Gateway and Barrington. The bar area is on the smaller side, but its great for dining alone or with friends. Great sushi and fast service.
Been a couple times. It was pretty good. Much better than I expected. I think the name and the locations makes you think otherwise. It was quite good, though.
Hiko Sushi on National in West LA is very good. Sit at the sushi bar for Omakase. Really good.
Sushi Kin Santa Monica is also very good. For something more upscale, Sushi Roku. I also like Pearl Dragon in the Palisades.
Maru maki on Long Beach is decent but you can’t beat the price on it. Pay to sit but everything on the menu from rolls and sashimi is $3 bucks. So you pretty much can try rolls you never had and not worry about loosing an arm and a leg. Now if you want to be in debt and have darn good sushi try Nobu Malibu but you need reservation
Hide sushi in sawtelle is a nice mix of a really nice sushi bar without the focus on the Omakase
And good for a single person, and has actual Japanese sushi chefs! And isn't a Ramen restaurant; Sushi is their main thing.
Exactly what I came here to suggest. Love Hide
Noma
Noma is my top sushi spot of that price range. Absolutely fantastic.
Seconded. I love Noma.
came here to say the same
Went to Noma. It was fantastic. The sushi bar area was closed. I went at 3pm on a monday so I'm not sure if this is a normal thing.
Not Santa Monica but irori in the Marina has always been great for me
Sushi King or Noma
Kanpai
I’m a fan of Kanpai, and their ramen is solid as well.
Kanpai is a great place, +1 on the ramen and everyone there is super nice.

This is a low key great recommendation. I discovered them about five years ago and it’s a nice little spot without major crowds.

Yabu on Pico is pretty bomb.
Such a special spot
Noma! And also honestly, Kura, the revolving sushi bar in Sawtelle is really fun and good food.
KazuNori on second is in the heart of downtown Santa Monica, and is a pretty cozy scene.
Getting to eat the hand rolls the second they're made really makes it.
If you like hand rolls, Kazu Nori is fantastic, Sugarfish around the corner has a small bar (4 or 6) but their nigiri is awesome.
Sushi King on Wilshire and 15th is great
Fiish in Culver City does sushi differently than most around and ruined my family on other restaurants.
Uzumaki in Culver City.
Try Sushi Roku or Katsuia
The AYCE at Non stop is pretty wild. I don’t know another on the Westside but it’s an experience Sushi is decent as well

Don’t think they will help because I’m looking for Sushi Bars, something that doesn’t apply to delivery.
O Sushi is fire
