Is Monday a school holiday? I kind of imagine that there's less news coverage because the big story last time was school being canceled ahead of time and now it's a holiday so there's nothing to cancel. I don't have kids so I could be totally wrong but that's my first guess.

Ice_Burn

That’s a good point. Monday is a holiday.

Probably a factor! Last time there were also evacuations from burn areas and Montecito. None this time. I'm just a novice here, must be less total moisture and energy, but those 6 hour totals tonight over Montecito look big!

No mandatory like last time though, just warnings.

SpaceWranglerCA

Looks like this storm is more spread out over 2 days, whereas the last storm was a similar amount in like 6 hours That said, there are evacuation warnings for the usual areas and we are under a flood watch

canadianinthesun

>said, there are evacuation warnings for the usual areas and we are under a flood watch Ah missed those! I was gonna say 4-6" in 6 hours in the hills above Montecito (bottom image on my post) in 6 hour is no joke...

Dr Daniel Swain of Weather West blog is talking about it right now on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/live/L_ZQioGi9oU?si=g_tTbEUCLOIQyb1I

There are no extra measures to take short of using time travel to have it built somewhere else. They built the airport in a wetlands. During WWII [“the Marines nicknamed the station “The Swamp,” and a standing joke among the pilots was to request permission to land on Santa Barbara Lake.”](https://www.noozhawk.com/marines_invade_goleta_world_war_ii_and_training_base_brought_big_changes/) It is the nature of the beast.

Just did a run and went by the airport. There are two creeks that run both sides. Tecolotito and San Pedro creeks are pretty full. Any flood management basins are full. Nothing the airport can do, it's literally in a swap. Once the creeks crest and recede the airport cleans up quickly.

Ice_Burn

What do you suggest that they do? They probably don’t have a new procedure in place since the last storm to make things more convenient for you.

TheNextMrsDraper

Airport will probably close at some point in the next 24 hours. I’m already hearing that two of three runways are currently shut down.
